    It is always fun to see someone mill a large log. I have only milled 8" to 10" logs using a electric hand planer and my 11" bandsaw. Even that is very satisfying.

    I just got started on unboxing mine. Seems a pretty daunting task, all those parts laying out on the garage floor. I should have a pretty good start on it though by the end of the day tomorrow. Thanks for the time lapse of yours going together.

    Love the Stevie Nicks reference! Fleetwood Mac was my first live concert back in 1975. Been waiting for this video for weeks as you teased us about it on your weekly podcast. Nice looking unit, can't wait to see it in action!

    Great video, getting ready to buy one and everyone on a Facebook group is warning me of how difficult it is to put together… kinda a “get ready” attitude looming.

    Congratulations on the mill! If I can be of any assistance, please drop me a line. I've been running a HD36 for around 10 years. Looking forward to your videos.

    You will be super glad you bought the mill. I have an HD 36 myself. All I want to do is saw logs now. It does a fine job and I like Norwood's innovations. I also checked out several and the Norwood was designed the best. I like being able to add opinions later.
    On the blades,there is a business in New York state called Russaw. Russ sells and sharpens blades at very reasonable prices. If you are interested I will give their phone number.
    I liked your appearance on from the stump. Would enjoy seeing you on that video again. Also definitely do some sawmill videos.

    I too would like to see more milling videos. Saw you guest appearance on Off the Stump which I really enjoyed. I purchased a smaller Norwood last December. Love the mill and the customer service. Knocked out a 24” southern red oak this afternoon. It’s a very fun log to turn with just a cant hook.

    I look forward to seeing put that saw mill to work. There is as much art as there is science for getting good yields out the logs you're milling.

  • @fcschoenthal

    Nice to see one being put together and definitely want to see some milling videos start to finish. I've dreamed about having a mill, but lots of factors to consider first, like where to store it and where to store any drying logs after milling (especially for years). I guess I'm too much into instant gratification to wait for lumber to dry. - Chris

    Where do you store the mill? What size truck do you need to tow the mill? Where do you stack your milled lumber? How do you find logs to mill? What negotiations do you make with people who want logs milled?

    • @WoodsmithShowandmagazine
      @WoodsmithShowandmagazine  4 года назад +2

      I have a vinyl cover for it, so it stays outside. Its only about 2000lbs, so a half ton will tow it easily (however, i have a 1 ton to be able to also carry lumber home). Most logs come from my arborist friends, but there's a ton of free logs on Facebook or Craigslist. When I mill for people, I charge by the hour ($75) and $25 for each blade that hits metal.

    I really want to go with a Timber King as I live near where they are built. But the lead time is 17 months. Ouch. Even the Norwood lead time is long enough at 4 months.

      To be honest, I assembled everything on that concrete slab, and I checked it prior to assembling. It was within 1/8", and I can make that up with the leveling jacks pretty easily!
