Well, the reason why his movies were a miss was because he had some trouble with the IRS, and he took everything offered just to clear his debt. But now he's all paid up, so, expect to see more hits than misses from now on.
Give Cage a good story and enough budget and he plays the hell out of his role. I am in total awe of this man. A legend that walked the career valley high and low. Some of the best film ever made are so good because of his acting.

He really is one of the most daring not afraid to do smaller projects with new directors and plot lines from first time screen writer's, I'm sure he's aware that not everything he's in is good but he doesn't give up and recent years have shown that you don't need big budgets to tell a good story, ie mandy and pig, the later really surprised me as I thought their wouldn't be a great story but I think it's a beautiful movie. And Mandy like Javi said "is a masterpiece " 👌 👏..
