    Do they pull out of the mesh easily or do you have to scrub them to get them clean?

    • @colekraus
      @colekraus  8 месяцев назад +1

      They come out quite easily!

    For your timed cycles you turn on the water misting for 5 minutes every hour?

    • @colekraus
      @colekraus  Год назад +1

      Yes

    • @RealCanadanMan
      @RealCanadanMan Год назад

      no he said 5 seconds every hour in the video, DO NOT MIST FOR 5 MINUTES EVERY HOUR!!!!!!! that is wayyyyyyyy more then needed, 5-10 seconds IS PERFECTTTT, they do not need a lot of water........... using too much water will drastically increase the chance of mold growth.

  • @DerekSmort
    @DerekSmort 2 года назад +2

    That's great!. Did you had any problem with mold afterwards? I tried growing in trays and just misting it manually, but I had some issues with molding. So I switched back to growing in bottles where I could shake the seeds in the new water, so it's mechanically cleaned

      It shouldn't be a problem if you're growing daily. However, if you stop for a period of time you should make sure everything is washed and dried to prevent molding.

    do you have a cover on the bin?

    • @colekraus
      @colekraus  4 года назад +1

      I don’t use a cover because the misters are pointed down, although it wouldn’t hurt to use one if you wish.

    How do you get hulls off.

    • @colekraus
      @colekraus  5 лет назад +1

      Mary Spear I don’t usually remove the hulls, but if you want to you just need to soak the sprouts in cool water and the hulls with float to the top.

    Thanks for this. You didn't mention what you used as the mesh.

    • @colekraus
      @colekraus  4 года назад +3

      I used the window screen mesh. You can get it at Home Depot.

      @@colekraus Ok thanks. I wonder what I could use that would be food safe?

    • @colekraus
      @colekraus  4 года назад +1

      M G I don’t see why not. I only added it because some of the seeds I was using were very small and the holes in the trays were too big. Ideally, if you could find trays with smaller holes that would be better.

      @@clarityisgood2215 Silicone dehydrator screens or any replacement dehydrator screen material; they are all food safe and designed for long contact with food, Stainless steel is another option but a little more challenging to cut to shape and have it lay flat (usually shipped rolled). Window screen is a lazy choice and the arguments for it rely on gut feelings, ease of sourcing it from hardware store, and general "meh its fine" attitudes.
