Great arcade racers with JDMs Racing Jam, Winding Heat - Konami. The former is basically a Gran Turismo knockoff Battle Gear - TAITO Initial D Arcade Stage - Sega Maximum Tune - Namco
I miss the deep mods too but I want to make sure people want them because they take 10x as long to make and we’re doing 40% as many views. The math was getting bad
The Konami NWK-TR arcade board and most of their 3d graphics boards while having very impressive CPUs, clock speeds and 3d graphics solutions (variable 3d chipsets) are unfortunately kinda disappointing in a way. Konami really knew how to make videogames for arcades and the home consumer market back then but like I mentioned in another of your videos, Konami was just unfortunately slow at ramping up to 3d graphics videogames like Namco and Sega and maybe it's unfair to compare the three given that Namco got into pure 3d in the late 80s and Sega in the early 90s all due to cost of technology and learning curve where they had to basically learn how to make videogames all over again in pure 3d graphics plus the fact that 3d processors and graphic solutions were super expensive prior to the 3d accelerator cards showing up around 1995 on PC which may have driven the cost of 3d graphics chipsets much lower than in the early 90s and then that every year there was a couple of companies that boasted more features to attempt to edge out having the higher performance 3d chipset... not that PC graphics chipsets were the solution but having more companies competing during that time played a role that could probably not be forseen. Anyways Racing Jam and the other 3d Konami arcade games were very rare, you have to keep in mind that outside Japan where the major players actually ran their own proprietary arcade centers as major amusement/entertainment/high tech centers for all ages... and I mean that.. for ALL ages, not some Chuck E Cheese stereotype common to the U.S. because arcade cabinets could be found in adult entertainment centers where liquor and food and other entertainment was also available but I feel most of the arcade and multi entertainment centers in the U.S. really varied by region to either having none at all to having a few in major cities and hub towns and I am speaking mainly about the U.S.A as Europe is completely different as a region and the U.K. managed to have a major Sega entertainment arcade center almost comparable to the smaller venues in Japan. Great video but I will say even if I ran into this particular game, which had some coverage in some of the gamer magazines, it would end up being compared to the best arcade racing games from Namco and Sega.... Ironically Namco intentionally retired their Super System 22 where iirc they had Rave Racer and a dirt rally style racer despite the fact that Namco enjoyed some major rising success and name recognition in the Sony PlayStation home videogame system that when they eventually got a higher powered arcade system, it was after they were about to retire their System 11 and System 12 PS1 based arcade boards which they seemed to avoid making racing games for but with the Sony PS2 based System 243 arcade board they sparked up with Ridge Racer V arcade version. With Sega it's a different story since their arcade machine sales were extremely successful and they were also able to avoid making too many arcade boards which was common during 2d graphics arcade boards.. and I feel Konami did not really plan that out well even when trying to use the very overrated and over hyped 3DFX graphic chipset. Also note that Konami had their Stellar Assault 3d space shooter because they were trying to make 3d space fighter shooting action work almost like 2d space shooters worked but it's crazy because Sega managed to get there first with their Sega Model 1 Star Wars Arcade game even if it was on rails, had they tried to make a space shooter instead of relying on Star Wars license, Sega could have done it and Namco focused more of jet fighter near simulation but it is the crazy part that Nintendo just beat Konami to the 3d space shooter with Star Fox on the Super Nintendo and Star Fox 64, the latter ends up being way more sophisticated than Konami's super expensive 3d space shooters and it's a wonder because Star Fox 64 did not get a sequel on the N64 which could have happened but Nintendo and who they worked with are smaller in comparison to multiple arcade teams.
i didnt see this video until now as u know i been talking to you about our 'Still' poorly RJ2 thats here at Timewarp arcade, i do now have a full chipset for it but it errors on boot on its little LCD screen, I not done anything more to it. Mame is still too slow, so that was pretty good recording, picking that chipset up is amazing. With regards ROM dumping, well the set in mame is incomplete as if you run the roms from Command Prompt is can cause errors. We need to continue our chat sometime, as this week I ended up at friends who parted out the sniper game, GN715 and he has two board sets ! I beleive it has controller faults but game did start. In July I could look at our RJ2 and network card, have to see what ROM programmer i need for that one. I got GQ4x4 that reads the security chip with Dallas chips so I done that before for another game. I suspect that might be the problem with out RJ2 just not much info online.
Ah those early years of 3d where there is no blending of animation frames. Youd have to do it by hand and tweak it carefully or in the case of this game just ship it and live with the jerky camera movements.
F355 is probably my favourite game but it i am not sure it's my favourite Arcade it close between Super hang on, Virtua racing, Sega Rally, Daytona and OutRun2 😂😂

Hey. Can you make a video report on TeknoParrot getting a surprise DMCA strike from Taito Corp? Its not even Nintendo. But what Nintendo has done recently to yuzu and citra has given a big ego boost to other big japanese corporation boards. They're totally mad with illusory power! It's absolutely disgusting.
I remember the local arcade here in Hawaii (Fun Factory) had 4 of the deluxe sitdown cabs of this back in the 90s
That must have been fun to see
Something really cool about arcade boards. Just thinking about its journey and how much fun and joy it brought is always interesting

In Spain Racing Jam deluxe cabinets were quite popular back in late 90s
And they’ve oddly seemingly all disappeared
Looks sweet. Needed a m2 port 😎
Haha I mean the Konami M2 boards have a lot of additional ports / connections for what seem to be analog ins so maybe it was considered
I literally just had an old arcade racer I couldn't remember the name of pop into my head only to see this video and realize that it was this game
Haha that’ll happen especially in my channel

I recommend checking Vectrex4life's video on the giant deluxe cabinet with a 70″ widescreen projection screen.
I’ve seen his vid. Fun he found a whole cab
I always thought Racing Jam ran off M2 hardware. Interesting configuration using dual 3DFX GPUs.
I wish. Nope NWK-TR. the original racing jam also ran on Cobra in a special edition
I am into those deep mods for this game and getting this running. Hell, if you get stuff like this running. It might entice me to also make the jump

Very nice. A tad jerky though, which does have some effect on the eyes.
The steering emulation is a bit odd
They're certainly very delicate PCB boards. In particular the Rams. I could clearly see one of the pins quite bent. :/
Yes. Luckily that can be corrected
@@VideoGameEsoterica As long you can fix it. ^^
Shouldn’t be too much of an issue

Konami was just always a half step behind Sega and Namco in the 3D era but still usually beyond what Taito hardware was producing

Why is the steering movement so janky? It's like when you turn there is no movement/visual frames you are just instantly there.
