But no WAY do he & Wilkins rival the dramatically stronger & heavier men.
Likely Shaq is #1, as immodest as he is lol!
He said he was 395 lbs(!) eventually with the Lakers.
Bet he could have generated even more force hanging on the rim then.
But no normal weight for height man like Carter or Wikins can generate such force, not even close.
Forget that Shaq had a 39" vertical just to GET to 12'5"...
Even when "skinny" at @300 lbs. when starting out it takes far more force to get up to the same height.

It is interesting & while subjective impressions are limited arguments, you could make an argument like this:
the hardest puncher could possibly be Demotay Wilder, who has similar proportions to the 6'6" 220lb. Carter. Great force can be generated more by speed height (in dunking) & leverage than muscle power...However Shaq set a RECORD with a 12' 5" leaping reach, & destroyed the most modern & reinforced backboards...With the height & weight+ him pulling his legs up for enhanced centripetal force... I cannot see how any 100 KG man could possibly create as much Pure Force...I think weight & strength means more here than in say punching...@@andretarrobal1964

Dunno about in terms of power, but Shawn Kemp dunks are my personal favourites. There's just so much passion with each of his dunks and most of the time he lands and celebrates it where it can easily get him tech-ed out of the game (at least these days)

Shaq also had a 300 pound big on his shoulder, adding weight. So 600 pounds + the jumping force of each of them. Upon landing usually about 10 times the force, but in this case probably half that, so it would be 5 x 600 = 3000 pounds.... and a tired backboard.
You gotta start with the one who DEFINED powerful…Chocolate Thunder,D Dawkins. Then you add Shaq,Charlie B,Nique,B Griffin….

Why are they acting like Shaq has otherworldy power, instead of just assuming the rig was likely not upto snuff & just need a powerful guy to be the tipping point of breaking it, or that it wasn't setup correctly.

The problem with this experiment is it's hard to recreate the exact same setup that Shaq broke...might have not been setup properly or had structural weaknesses that compromised it's strength...not taking anything away from the big Diesel but...
