Cool OTIS Traction Elevator - Hoover Tower, Stanford University - Stanford, CA

[Recorded 3-21-23] Here is the main attraction at this college campus. This is Hoover Tower, a tall bell tower and an observation deck open to the general public (with admission). The tower is about 14 stories tall and has an OTIS black button inside of it. The elevator was modded with Innovation but the call buttons and the majority of the cab are still original. The top floor offers some pretty nice views of the campus and nearby cities, but it was super windy and raining on the day this was filmed so it was freezing and wet up there. In other words, it was absolutely miserable. After seeing this tower and The Campanile, UCB wins.

The fan at the top of the cab reminds me of the Otis black-button elevators at a hospital I volunteered at for a few summers back in the early 90s. At the time, they had two banks of Otis black-button elevators- one bank for the public with nice cabs and another bank for service elevators. There was a switch you could flip in the cabs if you wanted to "park" the elevator while you delivered something to a nurse's station. Also a switch to turn on/off the fans. And get this- there was a 3rd bank of elevators specifically built as an expansion to the original building and since those were added not too long after the original building was built, those elevators were Otis Touch Sensitive buttons! They've all long since been modded of course, but at the time I didn't pay much attention to those types of fixtures. Years later, it was a sad day when I visited the same hospital and they were all modded, not to mention if you tried to "park" the elevators I'm pretty sure the alarm bells would ring and summon security lol.
