Yay i love watching these authentic organic style channels on data science more than those pretty staged ones. Excited to here and learn from your data science and or switching careers into data science! Hello from Manila 🤗
Great video! I just started Springboard this week in a similar situation to you where I'm changing careers completely. I'm very excited, especially after hearing the positives you mention
@@garysiu5498 he just got a job! i attend Springboard for Software Engineering and have done some Advent of Code with him. He just got a job recently in Data Science.
Great video on your experience and really going into how it's more like paying for a course where everything is curated for you if you didn't know where to look.
Bootcamps just use resources that are already available online. Springboard for example just uses linkedin learning which you can get for like 50$ a month
@@aziaredman So around 80% of the videos during the course came directly from LinkedIn Learning. You can find a lot of these videos just by searching for Threats, vulnerabilities, cybersecurity, wireshark, firewalls, linux, etc. The worthwhile part comes from the mentor and the career coaches. I'm not sure if these two things are worth the cost alone though. Its not a terrible deal but it depends on how much you value these and how much you can spend. This was my experience in the cybersecurity track.
That's true but I think it can be worth it for the mentorship in for the inside relationships that they have with companies. So I think it's more than just the resources that you can find online
This is so informative, most videos on RUclips are on the perspective from a master's degree. Any other information that you'll like the share would be very appreciated!
Grateful for the tips! I've done a couple of bootcamps, but as you mentioned, feel like there are many gaps. (Still working on landing that first data role -- your other job video is excellent as well). For a Masters, there's a MS in Data Science at University of Colorado Boulder, all online (on Coursera). It is merit-based, so no GRE required -- just pass three required courses in one of two pathways: data structures and algorithms or statistics. I'm working on that, whether I get a data role first or not.
Hi I am also considering whether to take the online MS degree at UCB on Coursera or attend the BootCamp. Based on your experience, which one do you think can better help us land the data job? Thanks!
Her i had a question.... when you completed all the assignments & you were at 100%.... after hitting 'Apply to complete course', how long did it take to hear back from springboard? Iys been a few days im nervous they'll tell me some of my projects are slightly wrong or something. Did you have wanting like that? How long did you have to wait until you were given the certificate of completion after hitting Apply to Complete?
Hello Belinda, some universities offer MBA with data analytics course, do you think that is a better than the boot camp? You mentioned going into a graduate course instead of bookcamp. Im asking in that regard
I like that you did it in nine months instead of 6:00 because 6 months feels a little bit rushed. Maybe it's not, but I just feel like 9 months would give you more experience before you actually apply for a job. You would have closer to a year's worth of experience than somebody coming out in 3 months or 6 months
Very informative video! I’ve been in prison since 2015….. as a NURSE! Relatively easy job when compared to when I was in hospital care. No interest in leaving as I do make 6-figure and pension, but kinda boring-ish so am considering doing something different ‘on the side’ but still challenging so really loved you insights as I was considering both a regular boot camp or the UCBerkeley masters in data analytics (I have bachelors in nursing) so I like how suggested a masters if possible…. We’ll see as I am 54 and work nights so May have to study in the days; either way, I would do a program like yours where it is self paced and I could do a final project on a medically related topic…. Congrats on your success and maybe we can be classmates in the Berkeley masters program if that’s your calling…
Belinda, thanks for the video. I'm a few weeks from pulling the trigger on joining the bootcamp. I plan on working it as a full time job and trying to find a data science position asap with a salary range greater than $80k. What are your thoughts on that? Do you think someone could finish the camp in 2 months? Is finding a job like what I mentioned reasonable?
@michaelberberian70 I started a bootcamp with the plan to turn a 6 month camp into 2 months. The statistics stuff was easy, but the coding took me longer to understand, but was exciting when it started to click. But I needed find a full time job before I finished the camp. So I quit the camp and got a FT time job. All in all, the bootcamp I joined I think was not worth the money. I believe I could have received similar training for much less cost from different sources. What the bootcamp provides was curating a lot of resources online in one place for you and they provided guidance on 3 premiere projects that you could add to your resume. If you are willing to teach yourself you can save a lot ofbthe bootcamp money.
Hi, Thank you for the tips. I have a Bachelors in Finance and have a 2 years on my belt. I'm planning to save up the 10k and pay upfront. I'm interested in the Data analytics program they offer. My question for you would be, How long would it take per day and were you working full time as well. It seems like it will be time consuming but I want to know how much exactly. Thank you
Im concerned about the salary. I already make 60k a year without an official education, why even bother with the DS hard work if it pays that little? Thanks for your input.
That being said, what do you currently work in if you don't mind me asking? A reason one would consider doing Data Science is really because the bonuses and salary increases are really good. As far as salary guess of course.
hi Belinda, tks for the info, what's the heckering challenging website? i have chemistry BS degree, looking into data science field. Its now 2022, besides SQL, u think other new software need to learn now to be stand out in interview? Hope your work life is going well in 2022 :)
Why didn't you just do the Data Camp data science career track since Springboard is using Data Camp courses? I tried the Springboard's Cyber Security and it used all of LinkedIn and RUclips videos which I was quite disappointed with the amount of money I spent.
Do you have a degree? I'm thinking of going into a data analyst bootcamp without a degree as I've been told that's not a problem...then by others, I've heard it is a problem..
You have access to a career counselor the whole time, they help with resume, linkedin, interview prep, application planning and organization, but overall, the job search process is on you. I will say that the last section of the program is interview focused, so theyll make you pass 3 different mock interviews in order to complete the course. The most useful mock interview was definitely the coding interview, where you're tasked with solving coding challenges
I have a question what the difference is between Data Science vs Data Analytics. Do you have a link to read? I have a friend working as Data Analysist. And another friend working as Data Scientist (this girl has PhD in Economic.). I had thought that Data Scientist is higher level than Data Analysist, requires higher education degree? I think I'm wrong by now.
@@emilybaker1984 Data Scientist positions are being replaced by Machine Learning Engineers. You should check out the data janitor on RUclips. He lays out how you can acquire a position as a data analyst
Hi, I'm older and not tech-savvy however I'm interested in cybersecurity. Please be honest for a beginner like me would this boot camp be difficult in your opinion.
For those who are on the fence for joining spring board. DO NOT DO IT. There are better programs than this trash of a curriculum. The lessons are fast-food, meaning they go over some content that is generic and then expect you to know these random extra steps. Half of the instructions either make no sense or are incorrect. Causing errors in the code . The service is even worse my first three weeks I could not access the website and the only person I could contact was out of the office with no prior notice. Save your money and go else where. Oh, but you now what does work correctly? Donating 750 dollars
Excellent review and information! I really appreciate your honesty and thank you for helping the community that is looking into starting data science!

Good for you, I didn't have such luck with Springboard in April 2021 when I completed it. It costed me $7500 at the time.
