I’m glad that you advocated for yourself and requested a new mentor. I am a former teacher and looking at the springboard software engineering track. These are good tips thanks for sharing.
It was a good lesson in advocating for a productive working environment. I didn't want to be "that guy" perceived as difficult, but in the end my new mentor was amazing and I finished the course really strongly.
do you mind sharing about your job search experience? how many places have you applied already and if you get or what kind of responses are you getting?
Good question. I’m working on a video to talk more about that and because I just finished I haven’t applied to a lot of places. I will say I’ve taken a few coding assessments so things are looking promising.
Thanks so much for sharing all this! SO valuable. I don't have any experience at all and I want to take their bootcamp too. Do you recommend taking some intro to Java or SQL first? Also, can you keep us posted on how things go for you? AND congratulations!!! I can tell you feel confident in your abilities. Good for you!
It makes me really happy to hear you found the video helpful. The best way to follow along in my journey is to subscribe. As far as recommendations go, for data science bootcamp I'd recommend learning Python. I can't talk too much about the other bootcamp tracks, but both are useful to know and the end goal is to know all three-- Python, Java, SQL.
It looks like Springboard, where I did my cybersecurity bootcamp, reversed my job guarantee refund (which was weeks late BTW). I used it to pay off loans and CC debt, and the reversal likely cost me hundreds in overdraft fees and interest payments. I'll have a full review of the bootcamp on my channel soon. #dontusespringboard
At 6:36 thats why I don’t really bother asking humans questions that much anymore, they don’t have that much patience, so that’s why now I ask ChatGPT4 all my coding questions 😂 it’s incredible. It’s like having a professor with me always with infinite patience.
Hi Everett. Thanks for sharing your experience with the program. Its really helpful and I'm very close to follow that by applying to the data science bootcamp. Anyways I was wonder if the program help you to get a job and if Springboard keep assist you regarding the career coaching even after finishng the program? Many thanks
I thought it was good for learning from a place of 0 to-well enough to do the things on my channel. I have more videos in depth, but career help is there for 6 months after graduating, but can be pretty basic and I honestly didn’t find it super useful. That said… I’m not a data scientist but I’m on the right path as an analyst.
I wasn’t sure if it was something I wanted to do, so Springboard seemed like a good alternative. Now knowing what I do, I’d like to get a Masters in person via a more traditional route.
@eminsh thanks. I am deciding between WGU data analytics masters or Data Science Masters from another school. With the current job market in data analytics, I am betting it is better to have masters than bootcamp certicate
Yes, I know you finished your program but looking back you should have requested a new mentor. You paid a lot of money for that program and if it's not working out with a mentor, a teacher or whoever you have a right to request a different one. You don't have to put up with bull crap, especially all the money you guys pay for boot camps. I understand that there is some level of struggle. There is some level of push through. Everything won't go your way, but when you have teachers, mentors, tutors and tas that are not helping you, you have a right to request a different one. You just do. It's your right as a customer and you are entitled to the best experiences ever
I don't want to put him on blast more than I already have for all of RUclips to know. He was really knowledgeable, but the transfer of that knowledge was where we didn't vibe well together. I'm sure he also has a lot to say about me as a student. In fact, to be fair, a lot of his past students' capstones were really impressive.
A mentor or a teacher who doesn't ask any questions, shows no interest or curiosity in you, and your learning doesn't have a different style, they're just poor mentors/teachers.
Big learning experience/lesson I got from the experience: don't overthink your role in a student teacher relationship. If you aren't getting what you need ask for a different mentor sooner than later.

Thanks for watching I’m glad you found it helpful!
Mentors should be motivating and positive. A bad mentor is worse than no mentor.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. In hindsight it is over priced, but for a total newbie the curation of learning is valuable.
i want to join for cyber security so you dont suggest it now

Yeah I like Bard for coding too. It is a force multiplier for productivity and debugging through code.

How come you did not pursue a Masters in Data Analytics from WGU

How much did spring board data science cost ?
probably too much
Can you please share the name of the crappy mentor?

I was about to ask the same.
Are you able to share the name of the mentor who you switch to? I'd like to hope I get him at the beginning.
