Being a part of this show has been one of the most fun things I've done in my career so far and I'm so thankful for the audience we have. TBP community is funny, smart and loves to keep it about the music! We got some great validation from some legends this week so hopefully we can keep taking it to the next level!
Despite Elliott changing his top three every week without any justification, I feel this pod has more integrity and substance. How is Elliott putting drake at two when he is consistently putting out crap..... there is a story there!!!! And we want the Tea
DJ Hed brings such a special element to the conversation. From the west coast lore to him protecting his relationships but still sharing where he can. It's really cool to see all of you bringing such different views to the show and having a discussion without it becoming an argument with no compromise or fun. The internet has become such a bitter negative place, this show reminds me it doesn't have to be that way.
My new favorite pod that I never saw coming, I was familiar with Elliott, somewhat familiar with Jeremy and only discovered Hed in the midst of the beef, but man, what a combo. Each of you bring value in a major way
maybe I missed it but when yall talk about the asap album please mention those wack ass bars he sent at Drake. Drake lost to dot…and washed everyone else. He absolutely lost the Kendrick but these other guys riding Dot’s coattails to a win. They signed their name on the project and got an A that Kendrick earned. Respect to Metro and Future. But them other guys….weak af.

Like I said, the show keeps getting better. It’s quality material that makes you think about your relationship with hip hop. They used the word “substance” in this episode and it gave me so much clarity. It’s why I don’t know as much about the newer generation. The push to care more about the vibes than what’s being said led to me not being invested in the culture. I liked what I liked and kept it moving. I love that the battle has made me reinvest in my relationship with the genre and there’s shows like this one to help.
This episode had me in stitches. Especially the DJ Hed Jeremy Hecht interactions. Pretending not to know the Tupac album and the cap exchange was priceless. The lists stuff needs to be clearer about whether you're talking all time or current. You might want to do all-time top 5 by region. I'm saying this because it seems West Coast rap still gets slept on a bit in these conversations even though you do have DJ Hed representing. Then also do maybe an underground vs. mainstream top 5 list. Also specify what criteria is being used because numbers is a Pop music gauge.
"Rory is a great white man" 😂😂😂 YALL KILLED THIS EPISODEEEEEEEEE. I think yall got that chemistry now. I died this whole vid. Thank you for doing this for the people!!!
The Bigger Picture!!! It took me soooo long to finish this episode because i kept stopping to play some of the songs referenced. I’m on my 4th replay of Steady Mobbin as we speak! Keep the heat coming!
I’m white and like Jermey from Canada but from the actual cool/ good part of Ontario, the real South Detroit (shoutout Windsor-Essex County) but my introduction to hip hop was like Hedds West Coast, my older cousin had me all up on Pac and NWA by grade 1, I need to know why none of yall got Pac as your #1 - he is the most versatile writer of all time regardless of genre has music for whatever mood you’re in, the work ethic was unmatched and unlike Drake he doesn’t just produce quantity it’s all quality as well, DRAKE CAN NOT BE TOP3 when there are confirmed accusations of other artists writing the bulk of tracks on some of his best projects
I agree with Elliott about the younger rappers tapping in with Classic Hip-Hop albums- especially folks like Yachty, who insist on doing podcasts and chatty interviews. I understand DJ Hed's point of view because that was the reality, especially before the streaming era.
Sent Elliott & Fabolous my album early. Elliott blocked me and Fab promoted it when it dropped. Feels like the reverse journalist version of Fab slamming the door on Hed 🤣
Ice Spice is not a artist. She's a IG model/influencer. We knew this. She got the same girly drill flow on every song. She can barely perform outside of throwing it in a circle.
I completely disagree with yall about something yall said. It should be mandatory for people who say they are rappers to understand legendary Hip Hop. How you supposed to be a MC and you never heard classic rap albums? If you just heard Blueprint I don't wanna hear you say nothing on a mic.
I just think that the emcees that put the hours in on studying the craft, then find their own voice to release their art will outlast the rappers that don't. Substance was a great word used in this episode that separates those that put the work in from those that ride a wave in.
"What is Ice Spice like 20" meanwhile she's 24yro! She's a grown woman. Nas wrote Illmatic at 17/18 years old. Lil Wayne was spitting fire as a teenager. Tupac passed at 25yro but his catalog sounds like he lived until he was 80yrs old. STOP with the excuses to justify mediocrity. Ice Spice level of "talent" is azz shaking music for the slow yellow bus riders. She just released a debut album and have 50 million songs and collaborations and she gives us nothing but mediocrity.

Comparing Megan Thee Stallion to Ice Spice is crazy. Megan twerks but she is a great lyricist, she made “Cobra” which was very introspective about her experience of surviving intimate partner violence and unwarranted persecution by the media. Her whole Traumazine album was introspective on these topics as well while awaiting the start and conclusion of Tory’s trial. Megan also will free style in a heartbeat, watch some of her videos of her free-styling. And she is an excellent dancer. Ice Spice just now started adding a two step to her twerks at the BET awards this year. Her looks get her by a lot. I don’t hate her, but I don’t think she would be signed if she was dark skinned and built like Coi Leraye. Unfortunately.
