Warbirds in Florida | SUN 'n FUN 2024

One of the highlights for many at any air show is the warbirds. SUN 'n FUN always do an excellent job of gathering a vast array of different aircraft types, seen in all theatres of the Second World War, pre-war, and post-war.
This year, one of the stars of the show was the Lewis Air Legends' Lockheed C-121A Constellation, nicknamed 'Bataan'. This 'Connie' made its first post-restoration flight on 21st June 2023 following an eight-year refurbishment. It was hoped that the Connie would be joined by another star of the Lewis Air Legends' fleet - the F7F Tigercat, but unfortunately this was unable to participate.
Another aircraft first for this channel is the Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless, a US Navy scout and dive bomber aircraft. The SBD (Scout Bomber Douglas) earned the nickname "Slow But Deadly" and is most well known for its successful use against Japanese aircraft carriers at the Battle of Midway in 1942. It is one of only a handful of airworthy examples of its type and belongs to the Commemorative Air Force (CAF).
2024 also saw the return of the USAF F-35A & P-51D Heritage Flight alongside the USN F/A-18F & F4U Legacy Flight to Lakeland. Both displays honouring their respective air arm's past by displaying with their World War 2 counterpart.
