    In France they also stopped discounts and there were also queues. But the worst was during a strike in petrochemical companies a few months ago. People panicked and there was a widespread fuel shortage. People were fighting at gas stations because of the long queues and rude people cuting in line. So you're lucky to be in Canaries Island. Perhaps the sunny weather makes people nicer

      True. If the day gets too stressful you can always just go to the beach, it's never more than 12.5 miles to the coast wherever you are and the sun is always shining somewhere on the island (caveat: during daylight hours only)

    9:53 - Coming from area where people have a lot of experience with wars, stockpiling is nothing new, not only for fuel. I saw people filling barrels at petrol station. But again its almost impossible to see fuel shortage here to be honest.
    Experiencing fuel shortage is dangerous but again its indicator that state was not prepared for it, or people in countries which did not had wars for a long time, simply over react to minor things.

    In the summer prices of fuel rose dramatically. I then went on internet to find the cheapest fuel in and around Wolverhampton. One petrol station advertised fuel at practically cost price . I went to this station and the queue to the forecourt was over half a mile in one direction.

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
      @LearnElectronicsRepair  Год назад

      Let me tell you a few strange things about Gran Canaria, compared to the UK. Firstly, supermarkets here do not sell fuel. Secondly diesel is usually cheaper then petrol by about 10 cents but currently it is 1 cent more expensive. Thirdly, the cheapest place to fill up here is.... wait for it.... on the motorway services, often up to 5 cents cheaper per liter than the towns. The second cheapest place is the petrol station at the airport. Oh actually come to think about it there is a petrol station in a town near airport called Aguimes (pronounced A-wee-mess) that is cheaper than anywhere else on the island that I know of, it's under €1 per liter there. But that doesn't mean there is a queue.

    Gigabyte boards under PCI-E, with revison number in left up corner (close to screw hole - if the board is places like on your video) or model number above RAM slots (if AGP is for gpu).

    That server probably cost about £5k back in the day, not sure on IBM hardware but I was buying similar poweredge stuff back in the day for that kind of thing. I used DDS (DAT) for backups on servers in the late 90s / 2000s. Note sure what you would do with some an old server now, or why anyone would one it, not particularly useful I would say, as parts maybe the best thing to repair old hardware that someone may still be using.

I had two cases in my life where PC ATX motherboard, and laptop motherboard won't post when the RTC Battery voltage is below 2.80. Just think about that - 2.75-2.70 instead of 3.0 and then no post. Very strange -but there are, that kind of motherboards.

    The beige box on outro is sporting a old 10m network card, probably a Realtek clone, so likely is anything from a 286 to a 486DX, as that is about the era those cards were popular. Probably also has 16M of RAM as well, though it could be as low a 4M, possibly even SIMM ones. Still got a 386SX motherboard in the garage, that I was using as a controller machine, using a program running in GWBasic, and using a parallel port card as output, to bit bash the interface to the industrial machines. Worked well for around 10 years as the controller, and the cost was zero, as all the parts used were scrap machines I got for free, or saved from the scrap yard.

    Manana is difficult by me in South Africa, because we have African Time, and that saying of "tomorrow' is difficult to convey, as really nothing has that sort of urgency.
    However the fuel price is adjusted once a month, up or down ( generally up) so there definitely is a big uptick in the number of people putting fuel in when it goes up, and a big lull when it goes down, and it generally is announced the Friday before, and changes on the Tuesday evening at midnight, so at Wednesday morning it has changed. So that Friday till Tuesday you see more people putting fuel in, and the rush is Tuesday around 5PM, when all suddenly realise the price is going up, and rush to fill up. I just will go during the weekend, and fill up at a garage where I get points back, because the price of petrol is regulated and fixed, while diesel has a maximum price regulated. So to get any discount I go to one of 2 chains where another card gives rewards, not much, but still it does help. Not going anywhere just up the road to the local garage, poor rewards, but if I am out the other chain with better rewards scheme. Not paying the third one for the privilege of getting my own money back though.

      I got the i7-7700K plus motherboard (working) from the car boot sale a couple of months ago for €35, it's on one of my videos. Likewise with the 2x 8GB DDR4. It seems most sensible to use it. My current i7-4790 system (The CPU also came from the car boot) works fine for recording, but I want to try live streaming, therefore I need a decent GPU to do the real time video compression and a bit more cpu power won't hurt either. An RTX 2070 OC 8Gb Super fits that bill just fine, and the price was OK for a used working one. so at this point I just decided to upgrade the whole PC using what I've got. Live Repair streaming on LER coming later this month on Sundays, and I have another related project in the pipeline starting March 2023 😉

    i always spread the heatsink compound thinly over the sriface of the cpu with a bit of cardboard. it makes sure the heat distributes evenly.

    Here in Pennsylvania USA, people freak out for almost anything...3 snowflakes fall -go to store and get bread and milk and stuff. Gas prices are ridiculous, and if its said one station has it for somewhat cheaper, there will be lines forever, and with the second highest tax on gas (petrol for you other guys) in the US, its fairly high to begin with

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair

      Out of interest how much is diesel or petrol (do you call both of them gas?) I guess you would have to convert to price per liter if you pay buy the gallon so we could compare.
      As an aside I once saw a photo of a large sign at a USA petrol station and restaurant/snack bar. It said...
      *EAT HERE AND GET GAS*
      That is really really funny to a Brit 😂

    €1.3 for diesel? And 14% discount on that? Here in Sweden diesel is €3.2 and petrol is €2

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
      @LearnElectronicsRepair  Год назад

      yeah it's €1.35 for diesel but we no longer get the 14% discount. That's in the town here, on the motorway services it is cheaper by about 5 cents / liter
