    Great video Jeremy, you made some great points. Both keyboards appear very capable and highlights the fact that we are living in a golden area of affordably priced, technologically advanced keyboards. For me, I think that the Roland just looks better, sleek with clean, uncluttered lines to it's physical form. Keep up the good work!

    I think you should have included the Go Keys 3 in the comparison since it shares so many features of the Go Keys 5 - in total Go Keys 3 and 5 are available in 5 different colors vs standard black for the Yamaha. I think the color choice is worth a point, it matters more to me than the $10 price difference. Overall a great comparison, thank you for your videos.

    • @JeremySee
      @JeremySee  22 дня назад +2

      These are $150 more than the GO:Keys 3. That's a 30% difference. It's a price league.

  • @GatisKaulinsh
    @GatisKaulinsh 23 дня назад +7

    Yes as a music creation keyboard it is a shame it has only 1 MIDI track recording possible and that 256 polyphony could be really handy for this so I really don't understand why.... I have GO:KEYS 5 graphite version. It is very stylish keyboard with good key action in my opinion. And I must say only this keyboard statisfy me with sound quality with built in instruments but there are also Wave expansions and they sound excellent! Ability to download new styles and instruments is really gamechanging for this keyboard. What else... Yeah, sadly you can't connect Bluetooth MIDI to AKAI MPC ONE even if both instruments support it - that's also bad at least for me as a producer. At least USB works but it is not that practical. Anyway for me as a producer Roland is my choice because sound is the most important for me, it also takes less space.

  • @ravenrush7336
    @ravenrush7336 22 дня назад +3

    AFAIK the Roland go keys 5 is probably the first keyboard with a professional type sound engine in a keyboard at this price. The zen core engine is the same engine found in Roland's professional keyboards like Fantom and RD88. It even supports waveform expansions which is unheard of at this price point. It is such a shame that the registration and arranger control functions are quite limited, making it much more difficult to use in a live setting.

    Thank you! You helped me out on your video to choose the best key board for me! I am a beginner, but the Yamaha sounds better to me! The Roland seems to be more compact and more modern! The most important thing is features! It is nice that it had Bluetooth! All and all it’s not easy to choose!!

    In terms of portability, the EW425's sibling, the E473 (soon to be E483?), has 61 keys, the same as the Roland model and works off 6 x AA batteries, as well as a mains adapter.
    As always, nothing beats trying out both models and deciding for yourself.
    As Jeremy says, a lot comes down to personal taste.
    Keep up the great work Mr See! (from MrC 😜)

    Olá! Só um dado, o GO:KEYS 5 tem a função de overdub que não tem no Yamaha, então se tratando de gravação tante MIDI quanto áudio é ponto para ele. Isso não foi falado no vídeo. Mas o restante está de parabéns.

    thanks for the very good review as always. I agree that the track mute in roland could be better. that said the absence of the chord sequencer function in the other brand could be a deal breaker for a novice player like myself. and with roland I can play my favorite songs from mobile phone thru BT (and to the external sound system) and sing along like karaoke. It also has center cancel function which mute the voice of the original singer. I'm happy with my roland purchase. however next, maybe a yamaha SX900

    Actually you could add either Korg EK50 or i3 in this comparison. Many reviewers often miss detailed review of a keyboard’s velocity mapping and its output quality. For example, just because Roland keybed has firmer spring, it does not mean it plays well. For piano playing, the Casio CTS1 spongy keybed easily beat the Roland Go Key. Roland sound output is not good. - very compressed, lack clarity and stereo width. It is quite obvious when you compare them with a good PA or HiFi. Yamaha and Korg have better output quality. I like that Roland is taking the arranger design in the right direction. It has created a nice platform for future sound/style expansion.

    I really love this review and posted it on a music forum. I also have both the Roland Go 3 and Yamaha PSR-E473. The Yamaha is the one I play the most and I'm still exploring the Roland Go 3. I would have REALLY liked to get the Roland Go 5, but it was a little pricey for me. It has the mic input and because I sing and play, it would be awesome to own. I really love my Yamaha PSR-E473 but in the little dream cloud that hovers over my head, I would still really like to get a Yamaha DGX-670!!

  • @marcosphotography
    @marcosphotography 22 дня назад +1

    good video and comparison, however, a better choice is the psr-e473 because it compares with the roland to have 61 keys, all of the other functions are the same on the psr-ew425, plus you get to have AA batteries compartment and weights 15 lb., 7 oz. and it costs 369.99 dls. For the price the yamaha psr E473 is a better option.

    I really think that 73/76 keys is like the perfect sweet spot between Compactness and playability (As long as they don't put a real state island to the side just to support the mod wheel). In my country the 73 keys pianos are always scarce and there is always a huge demand of them.

    Thanks for this comparison Jeremy. I got my PSR-EW425 just over 12 months ago and I really love it. I'm still finding features on it that I didn't know it had. I haven't had much time to play with it lately due to family medical problems but hopefully I can get back to it soon. On the subject of D size batteries, They are still a common size and used battery here in Australia so no problems with finding them here.

    Hi Jeremy See, I like your videos, and now I want to contribute
    Features in which Roland go Keys5 is superior to the ew425 that the video does not mention and are extra points:
    Roland Go Keys5 has 24 points vs Yamaha 17 points.
    So:
    1-quality of the key, it is not shiny and it is not smooth
    2-sensitivity levels are superior, 9 versus 3 of the ew425
    3-mp3 player
    4-configurable screen contrast
    5-favorite sound buttons on Roland Go Keys, similar to the Registration Memory
    6-speaker off function
    7-Bass Inversion very important like the one you mentioned in the Medeli AKX10

    Great review, I was interested recently in getting a light keyboard for occasional gigs and favoured the Go:Keys 5. The only drawback for me was how it handled Scenes (Registrations in Yamaha speak). The accompaniment gliches when changing from one scene to another, so you can’t set up multiple scenes for different parts of a song and change them on the fly as you would with Y’s registrations. If Roland could fix this, it would be a no-brainer to buy but that is a huge issue for me.

    Jeremy, I've looked at various sources and the go keys 5 has 128 note polyphony! Not 256 as mentioned in your comparison between the two keyboards.😢 That's a whooping difference! But still love your comparisons and one of the reasons I chose my entry keyboard to be the Casio CT S1 and loved it but now i have my eye on the Roland go keys 5 for all the many reasons you cite here but also I just got to have the jazz scat on the Roland!!!!!

    I think the big selling point of the GoKeys are the very modern styles, while it sounds like the PSR-E series keeps going on with the old classics, like the Yamahas I played back in early 90s. So for me it's the winner.

    This review is fantastic. I am going to stick with the Yamaha EW 425. Been to other sites and am reading too many not so great reviews. I will mention it was stated 256 polyphony where the ew 425 has only 64. I am trying to find info on the Go:Keys 5 onboard speakers. While I understand they are "not very powerful but a slight upgrade over the Go:Keys 3", I am curious how they compare to the Casiotone series ( CT-S1 or CT-S400 or 500). I own a CT-S400 and use it to play around with a group of friends, and find myself just on the edge of needing an external speaker. Would the Go:Keys 5 be a noticeable upgrade ?

    I recently bought a Yamaha PSR-EW425 and I found it very nice to play and listen to : but, I was disappointment to find that now music came out from the top D note to the end of the key board, just a "klack" but no note. Voices 001 to 003 are the same.
    The only piano voice that played all the notes was voice 004 , the bright piano.
    This was not mentioned in any videos of this keyboard.

      I own a PSREW. And I admit that it is terrible. The piano sounds good. But the accompaniments sounds like 90s toy. Almost all voices are muffled, and some are absolute trash. You can't intro again when starting a style. You can change the instruments in the style but you can't adjust the volume of it. That is absolutely limiting. Yamaha should stop hindering their PSRE artificially so they can force people to buy expensive keyboards. Semiconductor is cheap today there's no reason for trash instruments. They should trickle down PSRS voices. Now Roland has unveiled Go Keys with non-trash voices, Yamaha should really make their E483 better.

      I can give you a good advice for a beginner: limit yourself by your tools as much as possible, this will empower your creativity to overcome the technical obstacles. You will learn so much more in shorter time. Start with a used Keyboard with Accompaniment. When you are familiar with basics and got the feeling the tool is limiting you, then upgrade. Repeat the procedure. Remember: you learn skills, not tools. Good luck!

      If you have the budget for a Go:Keys 5, there's no reason to look at the E383

    I am currently looking for a good keyboard that i can use with FL studio that is also good for beginners and has 88 keys, fully weighted and in a price range below 750$ edit: I’m not worried about portability since it’ll probably never leave my room and I’m more worried about the quality of it than the weight

    I own EW425. For me, I would chose the Go Keys. The accompaniments in the PSRE sounds like a children's toy. The sounds are from 90s PSR, very artifical and low resolution sounds, annoying to the ears. Where as the Go Keys sounds clear and natural. It also has 4 variations which is a huge difference than a very limited 2 variations. You can't even intro again which is absurdly limited. My old Casio can do that. Why Yamaha cant? It seems like I am a Yamaha hater, but for me they have the most realistic sounds on a keyboard. Like the Tyros/Genos, DGX, PSRSX, and MODX and Montage. I am aware that the PSRE is an entry level, but it dosent have to be that terrible especially these days, electronics/memory are dirt cheap. Roland has proved that cheap keyboards dosen't have to be sound like trash. So Yamaha should follow suit and improve their PSRE in terms in sound and functionality. Even the new e383 sounds better than mine. Now I would like Yamaha to take it to the next level and make E483/EW430 with more better voices from PSRS and styles and improved style control and style mixer.
