  • The Canon R5C great specs but because of the design who is it really FOR? It is at a price point similar to top of the line mirrorless or DSLR cameras. This is, to me, a new type of camera in a new position, but I can't figure out exactly who it's FOR - this camera preview video explores what may or may not be in this camera for you.

    I love new technology.. love new cameras.. and investing in new gear can be quite overwhelming.. I like your review, I especially enjoy your personal take on who the camera is marketed for and your insight as to why. Thanks as always for taking the time to create this content. Speaking of gear.. would a walkthrough of what is on your wall / how it works to help your workflow be a possibility? 🙌🤩

    Could you help me with an advice
    I have the Oprtunity to buy the r5c brand new for a really great price from a friend for 3300 dollars but I’m not a videographer/cinematographer and I was wondering should I get it and resell and put some money and get the r3 because I’m a wedding/photojournalist photographer mostly and I sometimes shoot video or sell the r5c and get an r6 with some rf lens

      Thats really a business question; i.e. how much you can make buying and selling cameras and not a photography question so I don't really want to comment on that, but thanks for watching!

    I'm buying it to pair with the RF5.2mm Dual Fisheye for VR180 videos. I plan to use it to make videos of my kids, RUclips videos, and business filming events in my community. I'll be building it out on rails and like you suggested won't need IBIS since it'll be on a tripod

    I'm considering the C70 or the R5C..... leabing towards the 70 because of the build in ND filters and that battery issues i keep hearing about with the 5rc.

    Interesting take! We do wedding videography and photography as a hybrid package. We deliver a 3-9 minute video to the client. It’s not easy and requires discipline to switch. Knowing your camera and having a camera that can switch quickly between stills and video is essential.
    We love the R5 for it but the R5C takes a long time to switch to video mode: several seconds - more than 5, almost 9!? That means this camera won’t work for hybrid coverage but as a camera on a gimbal, etc. and for occasional stills - yes, for sure.

      Thanks for watching! Weddings CONSUME me when I shoot stills, theres no way I could do both... So you have more than one shooter to do video/stills or do you each do both?

    • @TimothyGordon
      @TimothyGordon 2 года назад +1

      @@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk we each do both. We’ve mastered the “video portrait.” This is made easier as we’re now using Canon R5/6/3 for our hybrid work as you can switch between photo and video settings in one button push with zero lag and no wait for buffer).
      We still own Sony cameras and lenses but the hybrid photo/video works like this.
      You focus on candid photos and when you’ve got some good stuff, you switch to video and grab a few seconds or a moment. Then when you’re directing couples/families, etc. you snap a few photos, you keep them in the pose then switch to video and grab a little movement, micro expression with video!

    Nice review Hayward! This camera is very intriguing and for me as a more video first guy it has everything you could want or need minus the built in NDs. But is it for me not at this time I can’t justify paying that price tag. Maybe one day if I build a client base but for now the EOS R is more then enough for me. Great stuff sir I hope all is well with you!

    Aside from the micro HDMI, this is my dream camera! A small cinema camera with amazing abilities, which also an amazing stills camera. I began with photography 40 years ago, and then moved into cinematography. This is the one camera to rule them all! Especially paired with a Ninja V+ and a nice gimbal. I’m buying two!

    • @CoffeeandPhotographyTalk
      @CoffeeandPhotographyTalk  2 года назад

      Awesome! So you are buying it primarily for cinematography and photography is just a bonus?

    • @misterdeity
      @misterdeity 2 года назад +2

      @@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk Yes. My primary use will be cinematography. But I’ve been dying to get back into photography. Never wanted to spend the money on a whole ‘nother camera to do it though. All the cinema cams I’ve bought over the years either don’t do photography, or aren’t full frame, or high enough in their MP count. So again, this is a dream!!! And I will get the neutral density adapter to make it a proper cinema camera (and use my EF glass). I plan to use this to shoot a film with just a crew of 3-4 people. I think this camera makes that possible. And then I can go do all my artsy, abstract photography.

    You are right, I don't need the fotographic part of the hybrid, so cheaper and without the Fotopart would have been better for me. But because I like the 8K-RAW 12bit video from my R5 and because I had some overheating issues I ordered the R5c. More DR, internal ND or better battery life would hsve been better, but as I love the 12bit footage and the sharpness, I had to go with the R5C.

    • @CoffeeandPhotographyTalk
      @CoffeeandPhotographyTalk  2 года назад +2

      Did you look at a c-70 if you were cinema first? It's a bit more expensive, but it seems like the design is a little more finished and it does have the ND filters. Thanks for watching!

    • @iliaskapatos
      @iliaskapatos 2 года назад

      @@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk thank you for the tip and yes the c70 would be perfect for me if it was at 6K or at 8K, FF and with a RF-mount. But after the sharpness of my R5 videos, I won't go back to a 4k camera. Beside the sharpness and some lowlight situations, the c70 is better for video in almost everything compared to the R5c and depending on the ND filters we use if you have a set >1000$ and you need less batteries then the C70 has a similar price like a R5C.

    I have 2 Canon C70's and an EOSR. I have the R5c coming in April. If it holds up I'll get rid of 1 C70 and the EOSR. I have high hopes for this camera. If the Wide DR in the R5c and C70 match easily... I'm done. Happy dog.

      I have heard it done both ways I 'think'? I'm not completely certain, but in the video I put a comment immediately after that that even if it were mechanical, a cinematographer wouldn't want a compensation that he couldn't manually control. Good point and thanks for watching!

    The workflow which would require professional users constantly shifting between photo & video- is in virtual reality content production. most people look at images that are smaller than 1:1 scale. Since the invention of photography, most humans look at images, and video at a different scale than the viewer. When you look at a photograph or a video in virtual reality, you are more likely to be experiencing content at 1:1 scale . This has a profound impact on the image, and the viewers of said image. I want to note that I am not a professional photographer or videographer. I am an Executive at a software startup. Our software is used to preserve video and image data for mission critical activities.

    • @CoffeeandPhotographyTalk

      Excellent information! I never thought of that because I've never worked in virtual reality. I deal with the scale issue when I have to do large printed portraits but not in the video arena. Thanks for watching!

      @@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk is it basically the same stills camera as the r5? I'm on the lookout for a new camera after using the 5dmk4 and previous 5d models over the last 12 years or so. @@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk So you're saying the r5 and r5c are different as a stills camera? Apart from the IBIS how is the r5c worse than the r5?

    • @CoffeeandPhotographyTalk
      @CoffeeandPhotographyTalk  Год назад

      @@rgrebby I have spent very little time with the C, but it's not fair to say 'worse'. As far as I know the IQ of the C is very similar to the 5, but I've not seen anyone do a rigorous comparison and my guess as to the reason is that the intended use of the C is video first and the intended use of the R5 is stills first so the audience would be different. Thats my opinion based on what I see in the design. Canon would never say anything negative about either in terms of video or IQ so getting a 'definitive' answer to your question might be difficult.
