I really hope Atari can work something out to get Gauntlet on this. It's a huge part of their arcade legacy and it's a bummer it passed through multiple hands and now is with Warner Bros.
I'd rather have a Gauntlet collection; 1 and 2 from the arcade, NES Gauntlet, Gauntlet 2 for NES and Gameboy, Gauntlet 4 for the Genesis/Mega Drive, Gauntlet: the 3rd Encounter for the Lynx.
@@mainstreetsaint36 I'm all for that idea! I'd like to see the Master System versions included as well though, and the Gameboy version of the 1st game.
I'll never forget Video Pinball for being the first game I got in trouble for playing. My dad activated the smoke alarm for a fire drill right while I was in the middle of an insanely good run and six-year-old me wasn't going to let that stop me from rolling the score multiple times.
Since Atari now owns Intelevision, maybe the next update should feature Intelevision games? Atari did release some games to Intelevision under their "Atarisoft" label for third-party releases, so it would also be a good opportunity to show off those releases, (although Centipede is the only one that have full ownership of. There was also Defender and Pac-Man, but those are owned by WB Interactive and Bandai-Namco respectively.) This of course on top of games that were published by Mattel and INTV Corp would give us titles like Motocross, Auto Racing, Boxing, AD&D: Cloudy Mountain (aka, Adventure), their own Pinball title and the Intelivision versions of all the M Network makes, it'd be a great complement to be able to play both versions of those games!
13:11 Ant Bear has been superseded by Aardvark for the 2600. It is a massive improvement over this game. It is a very good looking and playing 2600 game with a 32k rom size.
Astroblast does NOT have analog controls. I was playing this game when your father was a boy. Trust me, it used the standard Atari 2600 joystick, which is a digital joystick.
As strange as it sounds, I *_really_* hope they get the license from Namco to include Pac-Man and Pac-Man 8K into the lineup - Pac-Man was the killer app for the 2600 and 5200, as infamous as the 2600 was.
The M-Network games were some of the more popular games on the 2600. Bump N Jump, Football, Lock N Chase (all missing) and others were very popular. I owned quite a few of these when they were still current. You only think this is weird because you are 20 years old. You literally probably didn't live in the same century as the 2600. Activision, Imagic, Mattel, CBS and Parker Bros are all heavily associated in our minds with Atari. CBS even released a booster grip which added a second button to the Atari joystick. Not just a dummy second button, but a real button number 2 which operates independently of the joystick button. Also, Berzerk was not an Atari game. It was published by Stern Electronics. As a 2600 release, it was, but not the arcade version you are showing. Frenzy (also Stern) has never been released for the 2600 and was only on the Colecovision BITD.
Pleased they added more. I caved in and got the steel book edition instead of buying the dlc. I'm pleased as I only had the standard 50 as digital and wanted a physical version. The timeline is so interesting. Hope they do add Activision and other third party developers. This is turning into the definitive way to collect Atari
I'm hoping they will add Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., E.T.; for historical reasons, Quadrant, Pitfall 1 and 2, Battletank, Tron games, Rubix Cube, Pepsi Invaders, and games developed by Howard Warshaw after he left and freelanced games. The lisencing would be a nightmare to get these games added, but it really would be complete.
I remember staying up quite late playing the bowling game to get a perfect 300. I like Intellivision’s astrosmash better because the game start off pretty casual and then built up
Great chance on seeing a Intellivision compliation from Digital Eclipse right now. Atari now owns both Intellivision and Digital Eclipse and I would love to see more in-depth history regarding the Intellivision. I know it's happening next year.
I got this WHOLE collection, on Huble Bundle, along with all the Atari "recharged" games for a total of $33 and it was WELL worth it. I saved a TON of money and got EVERYTHING. Unfortunately, it's no longer at Humble but it was the sale of the YEAR to me. What i'm envisioning is they will also add "all" Intellivision (and total history) eventually. nuff said?
It suddenly occurred to me that the inclusion of Stellar Track, Submarine Commander, and Steeplechase was possibly because the dissolving of Sears Corporation (who Atari made the games for) means that the rights might have finally gone back to Atari. That's a bummer, if that's what happened. Sears headquarters is most likely gone now that there's only 9 stores - from what I understand, on the K-Mart side, corporate had been gone for some time and the few K-Mart stores left were on their own to fend for themselves. Sears might be in the same shape, which is pretty sad to think about.
I got the new expanded version and didn’t know it had all the DLC, then bought all the DLC for 20 dollars Canadian. I wish it didn’t let you waste your money.
No TRON? Seriously though. I'm definitely in that small camp. I have tons of ways to play 2600 games. I love the 50 Collection as a celebration of Atari as a company more than a celebration of any specific console. I love all the history and being able to play games within that context. I think it's valuable to have a small section dedicated to the rivalry with Intellivision, but I'm content to not let it just be an open house for anything on those systems. Great vid.
Midnight Magic was not an Atari property. It was on several computers before it was on Atari. Your assessment that this M network dlc is the first time non atari made games are on the collection is incorrect. The September update included Berzerk and Frenzy, two games developed by Stern electronics that Atari also acquired.
It's at least worth noting that Atari's Midnight Magic table definitely isn't the same layout as the computer versions of David's Midnight Magic, which was very obviously based on the original Black Knight table from Williams.
Surprised by antbear personally. I lost the rest of my night of exploring the collection after finding that game. I see it as kind of snake meets pacman. I learned you can eat the worms if you get them from behind, and they can safely pass through your tongue as long as its not the tip. I just wish it had better scoring mechanics.
I wish I talked more about the enemies than I did in the video. Some enemies can only touch the tip, other enemies can touch everything except the tip. It's a cool mechanic.
I think the vast majority will be totally okay with 3rd party titles being included. After all, they are definitely a part of Atari history. I guess it just depends on how literally you take the title of "Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration". If you see this collection as being very specifically about Atari as a console manufacturer and developer, then I guess it would probably bother you.
I know it sounds like a silly request but can you someday do video game documentary reviews Not talking about RUclips ones but official indie ones like the 5 part Atari one Sinclair etc
The difference between atari versus mattel games is they both are *Atari* 😊. It's Atari *System* experience otherwise they could put up ps1, ps2 etc *Atari* the game *Designers* versus Atari the *console/system* experience . . .
The 2600 doesn't seem to have as much of a following than NES and other consoles do. It could be because of the simplicity of the games, or it could be something else.
@@pojr But people play it like once or twice, say "That was a fun trip down memory lane" and then forget about it again. And let's not act like these things are selling tens of millions of units.
Not really into ATARI consoles. It's a little too retro for me - especially since I grew up in the 90's and was used to C64 and NES - but developer documentaries are really worth watching.
Atari never put pitfall or donkey kong on this collection!? Along with insult to the buyer they polluted the fuck outta the game by putting the same game on here a few times. Hate being tricked into playing the same redundant shit. No wonder they never make anything new no more
A collection adding more games through an update? Completely unheard of.
Yeah, Atari 50 is one of the few collections to do that.
The SNK compilation added some after the fact as well.
3rd time....
With the 3rd party additions, I am now hopeful we'll finally get Fast Food on a collection.
They need to acquire the rights. Atari acquiring the rights to Activision and Imagic stuff from Microsoft might be a better target.
I really wish they would, it was my dad’s favorite game.
I really hope Atari can work something out to get Gauntlet on this. It's a huge part of their arcade legacy and it's a bummer it passed through multiple hands and now is with Warner Bros.
Yeah, imagine the Atari Games titles on here like Paperboy and Marble Madness. Would be nice.
Since WB Games owns the rights that may be tricky
Jack Tramiel was the Tommy Tallerico of the early 80's.

That's actually inspirational haha. Might give it a go myself!
Giving the fact that basketball(Atari 2600) in 1978 their was 3-point field goals in the NBA until 1979, this coming from a causal fan of basketball
Yeap. That’s why.
This is true. I didn't realize this until reading the comments here lol. My bad.

A new Intellivision flashback along with an anthology
Love that they have the Intellivision games. I don't think Intellivision warrants its own games but I'd love to see an expansion of Atari 50 that way.
I was thinking that the original Intellivision versions being included would have been nice.
when i saw the thumbnail background i thought that namcos and other companies arcade 2600 ports were gonna be added
that would be kinda cool tho right
Dude… no braces! Congrats… your channel has reignited my love for Atari.

Disapointed theres no Jaguar games in the collection :(

I would love to see them. It would be the perfect collection, although unlikely to ever happen.
Basketball doesn't have a three point shot because the three-pointer was not implemented in the NBA till 1979-1980 season and 1986 in the NCAA.

“Imagine buying a Konami collection but there is Capcom games on it” - the turbografix 16 mini was released by Konami and had Capcom games on it
Yes, but it was only "released by Konami" in the sense that Konami bought out Hudson Soft.
Yeah that's true. And I think most people are OK with there being bonus games.
Ant Bear, did not think that would be on there. I want to like Anteater but it's just too damn confusing!
Yeah I had a hard time with Anteater, but it's still a fun game. It happens to be on the MiSTer FPGA.

Tron is owned by Disney. Probably not gonna happen.
I was disappointed that they didn't include Intellivision games, just the 2600 ports.

Atari game. 1978
3pt in NBA 1979
Closer than I thought
This is true. My bad lol.
I’d update it purely for Berzerk and Frenzy.
Has anyone actually heard of any future updates for this?
Sweet!
good video
Too bad there is still not Battlezone for arcade, 2600 or Lynx. Infogrames (pardon, "Atari") sold the IP to Rebellion.
Cool!

Hello Pojr
Hi!
I wish we have Activision games in the future.
I would love to see that, and it is plausible since we've seen Activision games on other collections like Atari Flashback.
Does anyone really play these games for more than a few minutes of nostalgia? And for most of these, EVER?

Astroblast is the bomb azz diggity dawg
10:10 That crap is pretty embarrassing. Makes it look like they don't really care, and didn't seriously test what they're shipping.
