Great job as always, Cyril! Hardball looks like the game Fred Savage’s character is playing in The Princess Bride. I’d always wondered what exactly it was, or even if it was bespoke set dressing created for the film, like the game Tom Hanks plays in Big, but I think you’ve solved the 30-year mystery in this video.

Suprised no ones mentioned that these M Network games have also been added to the Atari Clasics collection on Switch... presumably because Atari 50 is the new hotness and no ones gone back to look... but yeah at some point recently they added them to their other collection.

I was not only a survivor but an active participant in the 16-bit Wars. I miss the real console wars as they drove innovation and the industry forward.

I agree. We don't really have console wars anymore. The 16-bit console war was uniquely special and hard to duplicate.

To me, Tower of Mystery is worth the price alone. If that game had been released on the 2600 back then, Tower of Mystery would have been just as loved as Adventure, I have no doubt. I've been playing it like crazy, learning the ins and outs of its mechanics, and once you put in the time to read the instructions and experiment a bit with the game, it is a freaking masterpiece.

So, I've not had time to try it yet, but Humble Bundle had a bundle on sale that included Atari 50, 10% of the DLC, and a bunch of the Recharge games I picked up, so got it on my Steam account, looking to check it out. As for the question, think I'll go with Nintendo VS Sega as a whole. Not any certain bits, but the history of that rivalry as a whole, which I feel in the end helped Nintendo when they came out as the winner in the end.

Man, looking at some of these prototype games that never came out, they look so much better than even a lot of artri 2600, or was it the 5400 games I grew up with. Personally, I'm disappointed we didn't get more lynx or jaguar games.

A shame that the documentary aren't as good as with Tetris and that there were no more Jaguar games, though whereas I can see them making an additional and separate Intellivision-collection... I severly doubt there's any interest or much financial gain in making a Jaguar collection. Which really is a shame because yeah, I think they shouod try and catalogue that console even if it didn't work out, just so that it's history can be told as well. I'm just not holding my breath...
Also, I was only ever into the 16-bit war but even then I played my friends Mega Drive games. After that I feel like I just didn't wanna bother with it.

I really wish they’d sort out the rights to the Imagic games as if they weren’t the best third party of the first console war they were a close second to Activision. What would be cool is if they got the rights to the Parker Bros, Fox, CBS and other libraries for another third-party-focused DLC.

You know, this company makes MORE games formatted this way like "The Making of Karateka", "THe Jeff Minter story", and "Tetris Forever". I wonder if they are going to create a foundation app to tie them all together in a "retro library" or not?
    nuff said?

Yeah, they have the Gold Master Series, with each one numbered. It's worth mentioning that I have reviewed all three of the Gold Master Series games that have been released.

Yeah those interviews with the green screens look weird.
QOTD, Man I'm going to go with the 32-bit console wars as they started out with the square shift to the playstation for final fantasy, which sort of set a huge tone for game companies hardware and publisher relations we still see to this day.

This is great and all, but I'm still hoping for Kasumi Ninja and Ultra Vortek...

The best console war was DS/3DS vs PSP/Vita.

I just want a way to play all the old Atari games including the Activision games and everything in ONE system, preferably on my son's Nintendo Switch. Eventually us Gen X-ers are gonna die off and there won't be anyone left who's interested like us.

I know that both Atari and Digital Eclipse wanted to get the Activision games in the package, but Activision wasn't interested. That's a real shame, as there are a lot of genuine classics that are completely absent. Frustrating.

Definitely the lack of Jaguar games is a disappointment......but yeah.., the low production of the interview background sucks......I mean.., let's get a lint roller on the cat hair before we shoot...mmmkay??!!

I don't understand why you or anyone else keeps going on about there being no Jaguar games, even though that has nothing to do with the theme of the pack at all. Like, you don't have a right to be disappointed about not getting something you were never promised.

    • @DefunctGames

@thenightstar8312 You're right, neither of these expansions promised Lynx or Jaguar games. As I mention in my review, it's clear that Atari's priority for this expansion pack was early Atari, not the stuff from the 1990s. However, the reason that's a little disappointing is because this is basically the only opportunity we have to get these Lynx and Jaguar games emulated on modern consoles. This isn't like the Super NES or Genesis, where even the obscure games have been ported over the years. Most Jaguar games have remained lost to time due to them only being on the Jaguar. Even if Kasumi Ninja or Ultra Vortex aren't must-buy games, it's a shame that they will likely never be ported. For many Lynx and Jaguar fans, this felt like the one and only chance to preserve some of those classics.
