      For many games, it works rather well. Wouldn't recommend a FPS that way. 😂

    Great videos on the X1 Fold 16. I just received mine yesterday. I love it except for the stand. It is not quite as sturdy as the rest of the accessories and the Fold. I don't like the fact there are no magnets to hold the tablet on in landscape orientation which is mostly how I use it. It sits fine on a desk but several times when adjusting the kickstand angle it has collapsed or the tablet has fallen off. That is my only niggle with this device. The display is fantastic and bright. Speakers and sound are great. Inking works well for a foldable screen. Reminds me of inking on my Z Fold 5. The keyboard is very usable. Not as big as my X1 Yoga Gen 8 but very accurate. I actually enjoy using this in laptop mode and find it more than adequate. I will be watching for further thoughts and updates. Thanks.

      Glad to hear your overall experience is a good one. I had to give back this pre production sample so no further content unless I get one someday. The stand gets easier to use as time goes on, little weird at first.

    Great review. In laptop mode, does the upper screen wobble much on touch? I currently have a Surface Pro, and the kick stand keeps it nice and sturdy. I like the idea of using the on-screen keyboard but dunno how practical that is.

    • @LaptopRetrospective
      @LaptopRetrospective  3 месяца назад +1

      I didn't experience much wobble on touch. That being said, you use this device differently than a Surface. Chances are, you will change the form factor if you're going to touch it.

    What about to use a virtual keyboard and virtual trackpad? Is it comfortable? Does it have a haptic or vibrotactile feedback? How can you start to use it? Is it possible to touch via 10 fingers to start it like on yoga 9i?

    • @LaptopRetrospective
      @LaptopRetrospective  8 месяцев назад +1

      Virtual keyboard on my version I believe was the stock Windows one. No virtual trackpad was present during my testing. The display does not have any feedback like the YogaBook.

    Considering that a 16 inch screen is still portable even without being folded, I'd like a version that starts at 16 inches and unfolds to be even bigger, with a 100 Wh battery. And as much as I normally dislike wireless charging, I think the keyboard should be wirelessly charged to avoid the issue you talked about where you accidentally charge the keyboard thinking you charged the computer. Also, not a fan of soldered RAM and the lack of trackpoint buttons. But overall, it's a very cool concept.

    • @LaptopRetrospective
      @LaptopRetrospective  8 месяцев назад

      For me, I think that would be a bit too big personally. I too would like some wireless charging on the keyboard. Maybe in the G2. I'll have more to say about the TrackPoint experience but the lack of buttons was not a deal breaker.

    • @ryanwwest
      @ryanwwest 8 месяцев назад

      16 inch when folded is exactly what I want too, and good idea with the keyboard.

    have they given a spec on the number of rated screen folds i.e opening and closing? These folding screens are going to need quite a number more years of development before they are actually robust. Generally with a new tech like this its very sensible to skip the first couple of generations.

      @LaptopRetrospective thanks for the quick reply. I want to order one of these, but that maximum 1tb of SSD storage seems so weak in 2024. I doubt I can open this machine and swap out the 2242 m.2 SSD. I guess I can bring an external drive.

    can you please test it and check if i can work on other device ?

      Where did you read that? It's just a Bluetooth keyboard so I'm not sure it wouldn't work anywhere else. Some specific functions may not work like tapping the TrackPoint. Unfortunately I no longer have the sample to test but if I ever get a production version, I'll test it.

    but seriously this is SERIOUSLY underpowered if your cinebench R23 scores are correct... I suspect you're in the low power mode or lenovo is totally throttling performance
    the way that the screen glitches out when you take off the keyboard is also not confidence inspiring
    it's still a beta product and you're paying to be the tester... no thanks

    • @LaptopRetrospective
      @LaptopRetrospective  8 месяцев назад +3

      Unfortunately I don't have the unit anymore to retest to confirm the power mode at the time. It is passively cooled if I remember right from the HMM so it was never going to be a performance machine. I ran the tests mainly because I knew somebody would ask. As for the screen "glitching" as you describe it, not exactly sure what you mean but Windows does need to refresh the aspect ratio and display area. The only other thing I'll mention is this was a pre-production model, I have not seen a production model in person.

    • @iamdmc
      @iamdmc 8 месяцев назад

      @@LaptopRetrospective passive cooling on an i7... what will lenovo think of next? Seriously, they should just have slapped an i3 in there. You were seeing 600something in single core performance whereas for the "real" i7-12th gen P CPU you get 1850 single core, and even the i5-12th gen U CPU you get 1750 single core.
      The whole device seems like a joke - especially it's pricing
