      Lol Todd Monken is trash. I still can't believe people are excited about this fraud. His obsession downfield, plus his over complex route running trees and inability to be creative underneath equals death. His play designs lead to a lot of yards, sure. But also ALOT of INTs. He created schemes for both Baker and Jameison. Ask them how they are doing lol. He forces QB to hold on to ball to long. Lamar will regress under this clown. Calling it now

    The most underrated thing about Lamar is his pocket presence. He’s more of a pocket passer than ppl give him credit for. He always has been. He doesn’t scramble often on passing plays and most of his runs are designed play calls. That’s why he’s so effective on the field. He’s basically been playing two starting positions for Baltimore since 2018. I’d love for Monken to mix in a few Qb runs here & there but allow Lamar to distribute the ball in a more sophisticated passing scheme. I could see Lamar having a season where he passes for 4100 36+ TDs w/ 600+ rushing 8tds.

    I just hope Todd Monken finds a good balance with Lamar’s running ability with designed runs and involving the running backs more in the passing game. Great video! As of right now, even though I am an Eagles fan, the Ravens may be the team that I am the most interested to see this coming season. With the new offensive coordinator, and the additions that they've made at wide receiver, I am interested in seeing what they look like on offense, and if they will indeed incorporate more spread concepts.
    Another team that I am very intrigued to see in this coming season? The Jaguars. I am interested to see if Trevor Lawrence will continue to rise and develop further, and I am interested in seeing how Calvin Ridley will fit in and play. If he turns out to still be a #1 receiver, the Jags' offense could go to a new level.

  • @Boblib1970
    @Boblib1970 Год назад

    Greg Roman took a lot of heat for stifling Lamar's growth, but Im old enough to remember why Roman was promoted to OC. It was because the Ravens were going to build an offense around Lamars skills and not force him to be something that he's not...a pocket passer. They weren't going to make the mistake that other teams with dual-threat QBs had done in the past and put him into an offensive philosophy that didn't match his skillset.
    I don't blame the Ravens for employing this strategy, actually I think it's a very wise way to develop a young QB. Just look at what Pittsburgh is doing with Pickett. Similar to what they did with Roethlisberger, they're bringing him along slowly and surrounding him with a solid run game and top notch defense, giving him years to develop. The problem with the Ravens however, is that they waited until Lamar's second contract to find out if he can be a more traditional QB. They've completely mismanaged Lamars development by changing philosophies five years in. Pittsburgh will be damn sure by KPs final year of his rookie contract that he's the guy. If not they will move on.
    If Baltimore gets it right, and LJ can flourish under Monken, they'll be fine. If not and Lamar struggles, it will set the organization back years.

    • @Boblib1970
      @Boblib1970 Год назад

      @@AlexRollinsNFL Yes exactly. But they should've moved on in year three or four. But I think that their situation is unique in the fact that Lamar is a big part of that running game so it's more difficult to smoothly transition the way Pittsburgh can, and did with Big Ben. I think the fact that the Ravens, much like the Steelers, truly believe that they can compete each year, and that makes it harder to change. When you're having the success that they did playing Roman's style of offense (it got them consistently in the playoffs) it's harder to make that move.
      It will be interesting to see how Pittsburgh handles Matt Canada. As limiting as his offense can be, I think keeping continuity with KP is more important, so not replacing Canada was the right move. If Pickett improves next year but doesn't take a huge leap, say into the top 15, do they bring him back for KP's 3rd year or move on and get a new OC?
      It will be interesting to see how everything plays out in the AFCN over the next 2 or 3 seasons. Watson and the Browns are a whole other discussion, but if all 3 QBs not named Burrow play to the level that they're capable of, this division will far and away be the best in the league because all 4 rosters are really solid.

      At worse Lamar will most definitely still pass to routes at the middle of the field which is a talent he's honed as a pocket QB for years now. The deep stuff like 989 routes he'll have to develop chemistry with his receivers (who hopefully are healthy). Along with niche situations with more pre-snap motion where depending on how he reads the offense, there are 2 options to throw but he can also just keep and rip a big run for himself.

      yeah as much as Roman gets the pass from fans because his offenses got 'team' related accolades (got 1 team to the SB, helped Lamar get an MVP), Roman is unapologetic when his offenses can't put up points consistently in different ways. Which is why I'm buying in on Monken because even on his interview with getting the OC job, he acknowledged that his job as the OC is to get the offense to score points. Anything less then you know to hold him accountable especially with high caliber talents at QB like Lamar and a good receiver group.

  • @DustinPlatt

    Monken might be a good OC....in college, we won't know how it converts to the NFL, but you also need competent receivers to know their assignments, etc. and a QB that can make the throws, know his reads, audibles, and a strong O-Line to let the play develop so the QB can get the ball down field.
    As well as having a brand new offense since Lamar entering the league, I don't see them going on all cylinders until the middle of the season, which is good.

Given that the Browns have only lost to burrow once and the fact that the bengals didn't really get any better in the offseason, imo i think either the browns or ravens will win the division this year. Desaun is looking really good in camp, and the roster is even more loaded than ever. Add to that the hiring of jim Schwartz, and i think the sky is the limit for them.

      At this point I'd argue there are guys who have shown a better acumen at calling creative and efficient run schemes for the offense. Arthur Smith is the opposite to Roman in applying the run game with the threat of the play action. Ben Johnson from the Lions used a wide array of run schemes to essentially just have his elite O-line bully opponents in the trenches to get yards on the ground. Even Kliff Kingsbury as a run designer had some really good stuff he used with the Cardinals. But much like Roman, his pass game design was equally as putrid.

    The debacle that is, and has always been, the Ravens offense goes back to Billick. Just like "IS CAM CAMERON BACK IN THE CASTLE?!!" the same cries went out, under Billick, and his carousel of OCs: "Is Matt Cavanaugh back in the castle?!!!" And while Billick was fired for his failures, Harbaugh has not been. And that has killed the team's offense and its chances of winning BIG. Harbaugh, not unlike Billick, is a fraud. I STILL hear Billick talking about moving into position to kick field goals vs going for touch downs. And Harbaugh's Wall of Shame of lousy OCs is legendary. And I predict that 5 years from now, after he's manged to further damage Lamar's career, we'll all be having the same discussion: "What's wrong with the Ravens offense?" As a former O-lineman for the Ravens stated: "The Ravens are all about the defense!". The real kicker is that while doing THAT, they ALSO blame the offense for their corporate poor decisions.
