My favourite bit of Voyage of the Damned is the line near the end when Mr Copper says: ‘Of all the ones to survive, he’s not the one you would’ve chosen, is he? But if you could choose, Doctor, if you could decide who lives and who dies that would make you a monster.’ This is especially great given how it sets up The Waters of Mars two years later.
1. Last Christmas: It's classic Who base under seige and Inception like dream within dream. 2. Twice Upon A Time. Altough they could have shown Hartnells Doctor more dignity.
Christmas Carol - for all its ludicrous flying sharkness - is my fave Christmas Special. I feel it actually has some real meat to it. As opposed to most Christmas Specials which, as you've said, are quite fluffy.
I've been rewatching all the Christmas specials this week and compared to the last couple years, every single one is a masterpiece. My personal favorite though, is A Christmas Carol. I also really like The Next Doctor. The Runaway Bride is sweet and hilarious and I think gets overlooked quite a bit.
My favourite in terms of nostalgia factor alone is Voyage of the Damned as I remember Christmas 2007 so fondly as I was an excited ten year old getting a Nintendo Wii, plus Voyage of the Damned was epic. Also, no one mentions the music, it's incredible. A brand new, rocking theme tune and the final minute features one of my favourite pieces ever written by Murray Gold. In terms of story, I think A Christmas Carol wins it hands down. I love most of the specials but I think in hindsight Moffat had the edge when it came to Christmas specials whereas RTD had better series overall.
Just chuck it down yer gob! Honestly can't thank Ian "Trap" Riley enough for his invention. Salt n vinegar crisps, mixed with nuts all in the same bag. Thank my mate Trap. But I personally think Tenant had the best Christmas Specials, Capaldi second, Matt's were awful.
As you didn't mention it, I can only assume you've never seen The Poseidon Adventure. After seeing that, Voyage of the Damned takes on a whole new perspective.
My favourite Christmas special would have to be the time of the doctor because one it’s one of Matt’s best performances two handles is in it and it’s generally fun to watch also the fact that it’s set on trenzalore again is pretty cool
@@spiggypop stop what? They are called The Host or 'Heavenly Host'. I called them Golden Weeping Angels because they are Golden Angels. As a kid I assumed they were a kind of Weeping Angel like how you get different kinds of Daleks. I thought I'd comment the name if anyone else were still wondering about what their name is.
Out of the Christmas specials I think the Voyage of the Damned is best one, the disaster movie set in space on the Titanic is a brilliant idea and the cameo by Wilf was really funny.
So many years of enduring the Christmas equals winter/snow thing in 30C+ heat. Surely the Doctor in thongs (flip flops) having a BBQ would work for a Christmas special as a change. No rules saying Christmas only happens in winter when you have all of time and space to choose from!
Complete new series specials ranking according to popular fan vote: #19: The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe #18: Planet of the Dead #17: Revolution of the Daleks #16: The Next Doctor #15: Voyage of the Damned #14: Eve of the Daleks #13: The Runaway Bride #12: Resolution #11: The End of Time #10: The Return of Doctor Mysterio #9: The Christmas Invasion #8: The Time of the Doctor #7: Twice Upon a Time #6: The Snowmen #5: The Husbands of River Song #4: Last Christmas #3: A Christmas Carol #2: The Day of the Doctor #1: The Waters of Mars
Wingy does a Christmas video... And shits all over Christmas. I'm joking dw, my favourite is a Christmas Carol or last Christmas. It's genuinely baffling that Wingy Hates the Christmassy shit
While my favorite will probably be A Christmas Carol, Voyage of the Damned is very good. But since I'm rewatching/watching New Who, I just got done watching Last Christmas a couple days ago, and I gotta say, I kinda weirdly appreciate it because of how experimental it was. Not great, but I respect it.
To me, The Husbands of River Song in the best Christmas special, & one of the best episodes of Who period. I’m also partial to The Return of Dr Mysterio & Twice Upon a Time. As for my favorite of the Davies era, does The Next Doctor count as a Christmas episode? I know it didn’t air at Christmas, but it was a Christmas setting. Merry Christmas to all!
Voyage of the Damned, Last Christmas and A Christmas Carol. The Snowmen is pretty underated. Hate the Widow Wardrobe one, also not a huge fan of the regenerations taking place in Xmas episodes.
Have to agree that I'm not a huge fan of the Xmas specials especially the ones where they try to force in things like Santa and a Christmas Carol as much. Just doesn't work for Doctor Who in my opinion. Voyage was pretty good and I like Runaway Bride too.
I feel like the specials are to get non-fans watching the show. If they did Blink, noone would watch. They make it silly to get others involved. That said, I'm a sucker for a killer tree
As i wa watchin this i thought i hope he says Voyage of the Damned cause all rest are a big pile of steaming Sheffield United, and he did, great review old boy, keep em comin
RTD created it as a gap between series, something different that the classic series didn’t do but also the bbc want the viewing figures at Christmas. SMs’ Christmas episodes were just family enjoyment not to involve what happens between series And CB just fucked it up with New Years specials 😂 too many Dalek stories
Have you watched the fluxx . I think dr who is doomed even with Russell Ƭ Davis . As Chris chibnall has done to much damage. I would like Richard Ayoda from the it crowd to be the 14th dr because he is quirky but it will never happen. I like the runaway bride and the voyage of the damned. I think I like the runaway bride because of the humour.

good line
The Chimes of Midnight, obviously. It just wouldn't be Christmas without Mrs Badley's plum pudding.
Feast of Steven:) I wish we still had it.
Ha, I was looking for a comment like this.
A Christmas Carol best for me. The Husbands of River Song and Twice Upon a Time good too. Rest I can take or leave.
Out of all the Christmas specials twice upon time is my personal favourite

i slamdunk agree with you, voyage of the dammed all christmas day long for me
A Christmas Carol is the best and only good one
Are you kidding it has flying fucking fish
@@spiggypop it’s not a main part of the story
The Heavenly Hosts should have been Axons! The Doctor even reminds the Master about them in the previous episode.
I think Christmas Carol is the best special
Merry Christmas Wingy

I feel as a whole, Capaldi had the best Christmas Specials of all of the Modern Era Doctors.
I favourite is the runaway bride. Also have a soft sport for the return of doctor Mysterio and husbands of river song.
I have a soft spot for you Nathan
Thank You for another great year. Please continue the great content I will keep watching
Terr @ Tardis Spider
Merry Christmas!
I would rather watch The Unquiet Dead.....not really a Special, but a really good Christmas story with my favorite Charles Dickens!
A Christmas Carol for me, no contest!
I agree easily the shittest!
I love the part where the music cuts and you close up to your face and say something a bit funny sometimes ha
As you didn't mention it, I can only assume you've never seen The Poseidon Adventure. After seeing that, Voyage of the Damned takes on a whole new perspective.

Happy xmas, Wingy. Thanks for some great videos this year.
Thanks Jack.
The Golden Weeping Angels I used to call them are called The Host.
Just stop it

The Christmas Invasion is underrated imo
Darryl
Hmmm really tough since i generally dnt like xmas specials. Maybe twice upon a time or the unquiet dead, if that counts! Merry xmas wingy!!
Out of the Christmas specials I think the Voyage of the Damned is best one, the disaster movie set in space on the Titanic is a brilliant idea and the cameo by Wilf was really funny.
The Christmas invasion
“In the heat of summer” (me in Australia) should we tell em’?

IMO the RTD era Christmas specials are the best. They just feel so family like idk how to describe it. The Christmas invasion ending is so Christmas.
Like a good old turkey am I right Jamie? Hahaha lol! I LOVE a good bitta telly!!

I'm joking dw, my favourite is a Christmas Carol or last Christmas. It's genuinely baffling that Wingy Hates the Christmassy shit
Wingy just out of curiosity which do prefer classic or nuwho
Wingy personally prefers New Who. But likes himself a bit of Classic here and there heh heh.

The Next Doctor did air as a Christmas special
The Next Doctor aired on Christmas Day 2008 so it very much counts.
Voyage of the Damned, Last Christmas and A Christmas Carol. The Snowmen is pretty underated. Hate the Widow Wardrobe one, also not a huge fan of the regenerations taking place in Xmas episodes.
What did you think about the husband's of river song?
Dunno
Runway bride?
I don't like any of rtd era Xmas specials. Loved most of Moffats tho. Top 3 are:
1. Last xmas
2. Husbands of riversong
3. Xmas carol

HARD disagree.
It's just a terrible piece of television. The first time I almost genuinely gave up on Doctor Who.
Never been a fan of the Christmas Specials. The Next Doctor is atrocious.
