    About 15yrs ago, I met a man who won over £5 million. He says it was the worst thing he had ever done. He told me that he gave some to friends & family, but they just kept on coming back for more. And “friends “ who he hadn’t seen for over 20-30 years suddenly appeared and was like” don’t you remember me, we used to be best mates at school”, and begged him for money. He told me he had to move away to start a new life. I actually felt sorry for him. Money does bring good things into your life, but I think it will also bring a lot of problems. If I won the lottery, I would definitely keep very quiet about it and never go public!

    My mother in law's ex friend won $1 Million in the lottery a decade ago. She bought a nice house and leased a Benz. She she retired and spent all that money in a short period of time. Now she's lost the house and car and has to work odd jobs just to take care of her and her kids. The lesson here is to be smart with your money. If the money's not working to make more money then don't spend it on extravagant items.

      My grandpa in law, same thing but he only won 800,000 as he had to split it with a few people and no one knows what he blew it on as it all disappeared after buying a modest house and new Lincoln town car. It’s amazing how quickly you can spend that money

    • @maurer3d
      @maurer3d 2 года назад

      @@JoeFpoc Well if he had to split it with just 3 people that means after taxes he would have walked away with something like 200,000. So depending on when he won that wouldn't go very far. if it was in the last 20 years it would have just about covered the house and car.

      What I don't understand is why SO many lottery winners use a freaking mortgage to buy a house! WTF?! If I won just $1 million, I'd go for annual payments when collecting the winnings but I'd try to buy the house outright so I can still hang on to the house. I am not getting a mortgage on it! It blows me away that some win big and are making monthly payments on TWO houses. Gee, one monthly mortgage is bad but two is just retarded. No wonder they lost all their money AND the house(s)...

    If I won the lottery, I'd make sure I get to remain anonymous.
    Some states have it to where that's not possible, which is ridiculous, but luckily I live in a state where that's not the case.
    I would also choose the yearly payment option over the lump sum.
    Finally, I would not buy a big mansion or super expensive cars, I would buy a normal house and invest some of my money into different things, so I'd have a chance to potentially make more money.
    Buying super expensive things not only draws attention, but people always forget you have to pay taxes on those things.
    I can't tell you how many times I've heard stories of people buying mansions or other luxurious items with their winnings, only to lose them because they couldn't afford the taxes.

    • @Shane-te6ih

      @@fromthehaven94 Lol people might find out. But the first biggest mistake people make is to just spend and party away all the money. You can live life as you normally do and in the mean time decide a smart approach to use the money. You could invest in a business, send yourself back to school to further educate yourself (study business or a dream you want to pursue). I get the fact that most people would want to spend and give friends money but that just isn't smart. Stay anonymous, be smart and use money wisely and in a year or two that million could become a billion. You could even live life as usual and put away the money for when you reach retirement age that way you don't have to rely on your children, matter a fact they could rely on you. They're are just so many possibilities, I wish I had the chance to win a couple millions or a billion dollars damn.

    First, HIRE AN ATTORNEY to set up a trust and claim the money anonymously (OH allows this), pay off debt, estimate a yearly budget and invest half for the future. Of course, some goes to family and friends and charities especially children's causes and animal rights and the environment. Most of all, tell as few people as possible. We would stay in our current home and update it. And travel, travel and travel.

    This is a video which could have simply been retitled as top 10 biggest idiots, without having to change any of the content of the video.
    Stupid people can blame money for problems all they want, but it seems their personal choices and they're conscious mismanagement of money seems to be what the problem is. HAVING money does not mean you have to frivolously spend every bit of it.
    My wife and I got about $3.5 thousand from our tax return over four months ago, use that to buy some new stuff, but also to supplement our income with bills and still have some of it in the bank.
    There is not one problem in my life that could not be solved if I had a little bit more money to throw at them.
    Notice people only make videos like this about people who lost Lottery money, but people won't tell you about the thousands of people who have won the lottery and used it to legitimately make their lives much better and the lives of those around them.
    This is such a jaded View.

    I'll tell you exactly what I'd do if I won the lottery. The first thing I would do is hire the best tax attorney possible. I'd ask him to set up a charitable trust. Then, I would give all my winnings to this trust, and receive income from this trust for the remainder of my life. This income would be very substantial. I was a CPA a few years back, and to the best of my knowledge, when money received in a windfall is given to a charitable trust, NO ONE pays the taxes on it. Taxes are paid only if the money is drawn out. That's what I remember, but the government may have changed it since. I don't know. Haven't been it that business for a long time. Finally, I would start a new project that is my passion, and build it up into a successful business. This will be much easier under the circumstances - No pressure.

    I've said this thousands of times,if I ever won the lottery? My main goal would be to buy a decent sized house and remain secluded there. I'm an introvert anyway,so me going around the world flashing my vast winnings is highly an unlikely thing I'd ever do.

    • @largol33t1
      @largol33t1 2 года назад

      I feel the same way. The only thing I'd do is buy a decent size house but not a mansion. Those sound like too much trouble to take care of. I'd pay off the house in FULL. I've watched dozens of videos about lottery winners and they always go broke after buying TWO cars and a mansion but always on monthly payments! I can't believe how dumb they can get. Then they opt for the annual payout instead and have burned up all the money in 2 months. It doesn't end there. Then they pay a third party to deliver the lump sum of the rest, take another hit on the winnings AND still have to pay a percentage to the third party! It boggles my mind how reckless and moronic they can get. Now they owe money in the following ways:
      1. house has a mortgage that will last 8-9 years (remember, you blew the whole yearly payout already!)
      2. the Ferrari has a monthly payment of $3,000 a month
      3. the Porsche also has a $2,000 a month payment (don't forget the insurance, tag, title and taxes, which are going to be pretty damn big!)
      4. The money is already gone so the people who negotiate the lump sum for the remainder cost you 20% of what you won so if you won $2 million, you wind up losing $400,000! Ouch.
      5. And don't forget, they negotiated the deal in EXCHANGE for a small percentage so you lost another $300,000!
      6. Then you check your account a few MONTHS later and you're broke. And you still owe next month's payments on the Ferrari, Porsche, house AND interest for taking out yet another loan because you blew through the first yearly check so quickly!
      The debt mountain just keeps climbing and climbing!

      I guess it's good that I'm helplessly addicted to Call of Duty and Tomb Raider games. So I'd still be playing my CURRENT games although I probably would buy a spare console in case I wear out my current one, LOL. The only thing I'd recklessly do is buy a small house but I'd pay it off in FULL so there's no mortgage over my head AFTER the money runs out. No supercars for me. I love my GTI and can't bear to let it go. The only vehicle I'd add is probably a small pickup in case I need AWD in bad weather but I'm not going to buy a $60,000 Ford 4-door pickup.
