What a beauty and great review. I've had the original version for a few years and one note: it has to be worn tight to keep from flopping around. Anyone who doesn't like their gear strapped-down will feel quite uncomfortable! (Note that suppaparts used to sell machined pieces that you could bolt into the case under the ring to create lugs if you want to do strap changes. Dunno if they're still in business, but a bonus add-on if you can get a set!) 👍

I’ve got a number of Citizen watches & I’m always amazed, (compared to Seiko), how the second hands on each, hits the markers dead on! Let alone the bezel alignment. QC obviously is more of a priority at Citizen.👍🏼😎
I don't know about the new ones, but I have a Seiko dive watch that I received as a gift almost fourty years ago. It still works great.
I bought this one in2022 and it has been great. Definitely a true tool watch.
I love Chris's enthusiasm for Citizen watches. This one looks great but wow, this one is thick! I'll never wonder if my BJ7111-51M is too thick anymore...🤣
It's a fine watch , also bought the new one , yellow polymer strap with the clear aluminium bezel , was just released by Citizen in Sydney a week ago .
I have the SS version of this watch. I love the tool aspect of this model. I hardly ever wear it on land. It’s just too big and heavy! But, it is incredibly accurate and the lume lasts all night.
Yeah it was my first serious diver and now I'm totally lume-spoiled. Even other Citizen divers (or their pricey atomics) will leave me squinting in the middle of the night, but never the 'Zilla
The one thing about the walking Dead that always bothered me. The lack of watches 😂. I mean, all the survivors had an opportunity to pickup a nice watch.....for free. Yet, they did not.
Also, the side profile reminds me of a cast iron cooking pot. Hahah. I cannot unsee that aspect now. 😂

I find it interesting how people give Citizen a "PASS" for a mineral crystal but Seiko Divers are immediately called out as if heretical for the use their Hardlex 🤔🧐
Because Seiko said that Hardlex is on pair with Saffire(nebulose) while Citizen didn't try to invent hot water with their mineral.Keep in mind that Citizen pioneered Mineral glass and Solar drive and Titanium!!

Yeah, the Hardlex I've seen tested (I could dig up the vid, guy with a pick kit scratching) and it was not discernably harder than normal mineral. But the data I've seen online confirms that sapphire is indeed much more brittle (as harder things generally are).
Awesome review. I have the Titanium version and love it. Can't go wrong with the Zilla!

I've got the ss and love it. I no longer dive, but will always have a penchant for dive watches.
Not my type of watch but a spec monster, definitely a real tool watch.
I like the strap buckle; it’s like a belt. Why don’t more watches have this safety feature?
Just for you fellow super Diver Nerds out there: this tank is helium rated WITHOUT a release valve-it just holds itself together like a gentleman on a short flight (I suspect that's what the big giant bezel setup is all about: clamping that crystal down on).
And speaking of that crystal and my suspicions: it is THICKKKK. In fact from all appearances online, Citizen used everything the same from their Autozilla 1000m... soooooo I'm pretty sure these divers are actually 1000m watches.
Which if you've been watching that adorable couple at The Hydraulic Press Channel squeeze watches, you know it means they probably couldn't even scare this thing into submission-let alone destroy it-with their three-kilometer test chamber.

The watch is nicknamed ecozilla, it has finally collaborated with Godzilla !! They were released as BJ8056-01E, BJ8059-03Z. 😄
The “Eco-Zilla” is the best survival situation watch? Umm, sure. But I still think that’s a strange way to pronounce G-SHOCK.
I agree. In a apocalyptic situation you wouldn’t go for saturation diving whilst multiple alarms, stopwatch and timer may come in handy.
Swopped out the stock strap on my Zilla for 24mm adapters. Works wonders as a spiky club in dodgy situations.

I love citizen and their eco drive. I was thinking of getting the ecozilla or the orca. I eventually got the special edition orca and i couldnt be happier. Maybe in the future ill add an ecozilla to the collection.
Was that the titanium with the new movement on your wrist?
May i ask, i was looking to get that with the bracelet but i heard some ppl had issues with the movement, some say it needs time to settle in, Hows yours..?

It's very easy to custom paint those bezel markers. I've done it before. Very easy.
Between the crystal and the awkward/unique band on this, I will go with a solar 200m that is quick change and mayo compliment in the band dept. Vaer FTW 🙌🏻
Nope it’s still is the GShock square. As robust. Day, date, Alarms, 4 time zones, timer, countdown, solar and night light.
I have thought about this..
I like Citizen watches and own over a dozen of them….But in my experience Casio are much more robust and the Tough Solar works so far forever, whereas I have broken several Citizen and have had the Eco-Drive fail.
Yeah personally I'm only in love with Cit because of function + style + cheap and I've fallen for their "serious diver" thang since i was one myself as a kid. They simply make the ultimate TOOL WATCH look imho.
But if i wanted even better looking at 1.5-double the price, I'd go with Seiko Solar.
But if I wanted just the functionality (and then some) at only 1/2-2/3 the price, obviously Casios are the no-brainers, hence the apparent preference for G-Shock among members of the modern military.

great review . but the whole argument about sapphire being more shatter prone has been debunked over and over, sapphire is stronger end of story. harder to shatter , harder to scratch. as a matter of fact that last watch you shown the kraken has a sapphrie crystal and it is a pro divers watch.
Reason for mineral over sapphire? cost. sapphrie is about 40 to 100 dollars more specially if its domed. and for huge companies like Citizen they messure cost at a large scale
I agree. You're right, I would imagine there might be a very slight benefit because it's a softer Crystal, but it's definitely a cost thing
While it is indeed more resistant, a saphire cristal cost is negligable in the grand scheme of things, ranging from 0.10 to 15$ by the piece, even much cheaper in bulk.

@@ROrneli that's what I was trying to say, sapphire is much better and not even expensive, there's practicaly no excuse for using mineral. But maybe my english isn't good enough to get my ideas through.
This mineral crystal has ar coating! Nice! I have a couple of watches with sapphire crystal but no ar coating.😬 They have more glare and reflections than I would like. It has put me off sapphire crystal without an ar coating.
