There are a few reasons why Vader didn't pursue Yoda. Siddious literally ordered him not to. Vader knew deep down that he would lose if they were to cross paths. There was nothing more to be gained in hunting him down.
Vader was only dominant against under developed Jedi that never had the chance to complete their training... against a fully developed Jedi, Vader was ok at best.. Yoda would have absolutely used the force to crushed him with his own body armor...
Another factor that allowed Yoda to remain largely undetected was the fact that the Dagoba system, along with several others, was erased from the archives of the Jedi Temple years ago by count Dooku, when he sought to hide the location of Kamino and the clone army. He deleted the Kamino system, along with several others, just to be safe - one of these "others was Dagoba.
I don't buy the "it was erased from the Jedi Archives" as being the reason Vader or Palpatine never found Yoda. If Obi-wan could find Kamino (erased from Jedi archives for similar reasons- to hide the fact the clone army was being produced there) they could have found Yoda. Yoda was hidden effectively on Dagobah by the influence of the dark-side cave and shrouded him, so as not to be detected through the force),. much like the Sith were hidden in plain sight and the Jedi were none the wiser about Palpatine's true nature.
@@andrewmurray1550 It's not THE reason, buy it helped. Obi Wan was looking for Kamino, and he followed Jango Fett. I don't think Vader was actively looking for Yoda, i very much doubt even with gis ego he thought he would be a match for him. As for Sidious - he sort of didn't care anymore. As far as he was concerned, he won.
That makes sense but notice how Palpatine senses a “great disturbance in the force” with Luke? Couldn’t the fact that Dagobah has a tree with a great presence of the dark side mean that Yoda’s light power might be somewhat masked and the Force more balanced there, making it hard for Vader and Palpatine to sense him or Luke there during his training?
@@orphenocou4742 It's more than Luke unlike Yoda not only has a great force potential that could end him, but unlike Yoda Luke was actively becoming a threat to the empire. Yoda spent most of his empire days as an hermit in a swamp planet so as far as Sidious knew he has no real hurry to kill him, at best merely an afterthought or a side quest. Luke however destroyed the Death Star, participates in the rebellion's missions, is learning how to use the force, and while still dwarfed at the time, he has the potential to grow and become a much greater threat to the Emperor. The emperor was laying down since he thought there was not anymore a jedi threat to him, only starting to focus on Luke because this time a force user was actually becoming a huge pebble in his shoe.
Another reason another explanation for why dooku was actually a double agent for the jedi. Never truly becoming a sith. Order 66 was organized years in advance with yoda and palpatine. As yoda starts to see jedi becoming soldiers and warriors more than peace keepers. He was eventually building a jedi empire that would too easily turn sith. Yoda knew his life was nearing an end. The sith empire was relatively no different than the jedi order
I think they were both scared of Yoda, but I think the Emporer was especially frightened of Yoda getting at what light might be left in Anakin. Also, it may have been that Yoda was capable of shielding himself from other Jedi's minds through manipulating the force.
The Sith were in control of the galaxy with an entire empire behind them, so why would the be scared of an old jedi? Sidious never thought Yoda was worth his time at this point and wanted Yoda to live and see the Sith rule. Granted Yoda would have fucked up Vader. No way would he have turned him back though.
@@chrismlone not just an old jedi haha, we're talking about yoda, don't underestimate the little one, if luke was able to bring anakin back with so little training, why yoda woudn't? and there's other point of view, that sidious wanted yoda to be alive to see all the suffering through the galaxy, some say that seeing good people suffering weakens the jedi
@@zillmer448 because Anakin closest friends couldn't at the time. The closest people he had in his life at that point were Obi-Wan and Ashoka probably. Neither of them could bring back Anakin. So why would Yoda? He was never as close to him. Luke brought him back because he was Anakins son not because of Jedi training.
When Yoda was preparing to go on his quest in Clone Wars Season 6, he confided in Anakin. There was a special bond between them that is not explored much but seems to be silently understood. I think that Yoda very well could have been exempt from Vader’s hate because he had treated Anakin with a respect that other Jedi masters had not.
I always wondered if it would come out that Anakin saves Grogu due to the fact Yoda and him are the same species and Anakin held Yoda in a high regard.
Good take. I also think anakin did not hate those who showed only love to him and even more so those that he without doubt knows have never wronged him
Yoda didn't almost defeat Sidious, he did. Sidious was disarmed of his lightsaber and when using the force, had it thrown right back at him. Just looking at Yoda's and Sidious's expressions just before the force explosion tells you who was stronger. Yoda confidence and Sidious panic. Sidious's very powerful force lightning was thrown back in his face by Yoda without the use of a lightsaber to block it. When Yoda said he failed, he didn't mean he lost, he meant he failed in stopping Sidious. With hundreds of clones entering the senate building, Yoda had no choice but to get the hell out of dodge. Mace also defeated Sidious and if it wasn't for that whinny little bitch Anakin, would have cut him in half. Sure Sidious was the most powerful Sith around and maybe of all time, but both Yoda and Mace defeated him but because he had help both times, survived. That is why Sidious and Vadar didn't want to find Yoda. He was just to bad ass to mess with.
I agree, Sidious himself said Vader will become more powerful than either of us which Kenobi prevented. Sidious was never the confrontation kind of guy and instead relied on manipulation and deceit. This fits perfectly how he killed his own master. Sidious wanted Anakin as his weapon to do what he couldnt hence his disappointment at Vaders loss on Mustafa.
Agree with most of that except the Mace Windu beating Sidious. Palpatine hadn't fully convinced Anakin of the jedi being corrupted yet, if he had just bested Windu and 3 other Master jedi there's a real chance Anakin enters the room sees their bodies and attacks the Palpatine, but because Windu appeared to be dominating Sidious and was ready to dispatch him, this proved to Anakin that the jedi had lost their way. I think Palpatine could have easily killed Windu at any point, but knew what he had to do to ensure Anakin would turn to the darkside.
@icomment7715 not true. Even in the alternate scene, Palpatine fled whilst stormtroopers entered the temple shooting at Yoda. The battle was a stalemate.
I agree with much of what you say, however, I believe that it was a fear of Yoda's wisdom more than anything. Yoda may easily have convinced Vader that he should return to the light, and enlighten Vader that his children were alive.
Palpatine did not know Vader's kids were alive and Yoda (as well as Obi-Wan) both told Luke to destroy Vader, not to "convince him to turn good". Jedi kill Sith, they don't give them inspirational speeches to turn good. That's a misconception, just because Luke did that with Vader and Obi-Wan got emotional about Anakin doesn't mean every Jedi is like that, most Jedi know Sith are evil and deceptive and won't let down their guard during a fight to try to convince them to turn back to the Light Side.
@@SwivelHippie No he doesn't know everything. If he knew the kids survived he would have hunted them down. He would have fostered and abused them or destroyed them. Darth Sidious is the personification of evil.
In original canon, Darth Vader's prosthetics were bulky and cumbersome. This forced Darth to change his fighting style to a clunkier, more brute-force style. Yoda was a perfect mismatch for this. He utilized a blinding, multi-angle attack that piled on mountains of speed and athleticism. He was also incredibly strong in the force. In short, Yoda would have destroyed Vader in a one on one duel and the emperor knew it. I also think he was concerned that Yoda's wisdom might sniff out and grab ahold of what little light was left in Anakin. Not worth the risk on multiple fronts.
in original canon was mentioned that Darth Vader is the strongest Force-user in existence/all time. He was pretty nerfed in the movies. Yoda was able to see force-time and knew that Anakin Skywalker was the chosen one and didnt interfere. Georg Lucas stated this in an interview. Yoda legit closed both of his eyes and hoped that the force was right about Anakin Skywalker, even after He turned to Darth Vader. I mean the prophecy was fullfilled at the end, so yoda was right all along, but it still amaze me how non-chelant yoda is.
@@DaGhostFaceHDyou’re not fully wrong mate. He had the potential, but never met it. There wasn’t a point in vaders life where he was more powerful than even sidious, and Luke went on to take the title of the most powerful force user ever.
Yoda lost the battle but played the long game and won the war by training Luke. In reality leaving Yoda alive and not making it a priority to find him was lethal and cost the emperor his empire.
@@kaludgo5811you are so dumb. The phrase refers to war as the long game, and overall endpoint. The battle refers to the moment. If Yoda won in that moment, then order 66 would have ever been carries out. People are so caught up in their ego that they literally miss the simplest of shit
Maybe would make sense if Luke had done anything to defeat Sidius or Vader. But he didn't. All he had to do was lose and he could have done it with or without Yoda.

@@joshuasteward6097 i dont think you remember the movie correctly. Yoda fell off because he repelled sidious lightning attack. I'm not saying he didn't make mistakes but he didn't lose his direct fight against sidious
Feel pretty sure that Yoda with his force abilities combined with his ataru form, would be far too much for a handicapped Vader who despite a powerful shien hybrid form would have trouble following Yodas fast movements, even if he was able to feel where Yoda was through the force, his physical body wouldnt be able to keep up.
Exactly. He's 80% of Sidious's power and Sidious battled Yoda to a stalemate. Vader woulda been overwhelmed and destroyed. Hell Obi-wan gave him the business coming off the street after a decade of no training.
And in the eyes of the public, it helps Vader's intimidation factor that Yoda looks too afraid to come out hiding even while Vader is slaughtering jedi. It makes Yoda look like a coward without Vader having to put himself at any risk.
@@AmericanCalabar 80% of Sidious power when Sidious got stronger. Vader was one of the best duelists of all time, Yoda basically only has speed on his side everything else goes to Vader.
@@nolans1675 imo the only thing Vader has over yoda is physical strength and stamina. Yoda is faster, wiser, more mentally stable, and from what I’ve seen stronger in the force. Granted I haven’t read the comics but still
@AmericanCalabar great answer if sidious power is 19500 and 80 percent of that is 15,600 that means Vader got weaker after Mustafa. That is not true. Vader and Yoda should be very close. Looking at Vader features and what he done.
I understood that due Dagaobah being a force nexus, it would be too strong for Vader and Yoda could use his knowledge of that to destroy Vader. I also read, Yoda's Master trained him in Dagobah and hence he was comfortable with the intricacies of the force nexus and could destroy anyone who came to challenge him.
Anakin actually did go to Yoda about his premonitions about Padme (although he didn't name her) when he didn't go to Obiwan and he did seem to listen to Yoda to an extent. Perhaps Sidious had concerns about the two of them getting together because there may have been a chance that Yoda could get through to Vader where all others failed. Yoda's psychological power is one of his strongest traits. And when he was Anakin, Yoda never made him feel inferior/too young etc quite like the other Jedis did and seemed more... kindly and understanding towards Anakin, so... maybe as Darth Vader he didn't have as much interest in what Yoda was doing like he did with Obiwan, who he had really close, upfront and very personal fights with. I don't know, Darth Vader seemed... pretty disinterested in Yoda generally and very actively focused on others. It didn't seem deliberate.
While far-fetched, I feel like similar to the love for Padme he kept deep down…so did his admiration for Yoda. In Ep1, it was Windu that denied Anakin to be trained, but Yoda conceded with hopes it would allow for the prophecy to be fulfilled. In Ep3, it was Yoda that Anakin sought wisdom from, rather than Kenobi, over his inner turmoil. Perhaps unlike the rest of the Jedi Order, a part of him felt that Yoda at least gave him an honest chance (he never got upset with him unlike Windu). Same thing with why Vader never went after Bail Organa due to his own relationship and connection with Padme…some things are best left undisturbed, ya know? I may be way off, but that sounds way more realistic than Vader fearing anyone in the galaxy! Hell, he wasn’t scared of turning on Palpatine knowing full well one lightning blast would kill him!! 🫨
It could also be attributed to him having more than a couple memories of seeing what Yoda can do. The guy wins when Anakin can't, and fought his master while he lost the chance to ever do that on even ground. And knowing he's still alive even though Palpatine won the fight? Yoda is like, some mythical Jedi legend in Anakin's head. "Bro is actually cool and will also 100% floor me if I step. Nah."
Part of me would be amused as hell to see a full puppet Yoda just doing acrobatic jumps here and there in fight with Frank Oz just doing Yoda’d characteristic laugh.
There are alot of layers to this. For Sidious, it was never about proving he was a better swordsman or a better sith than Yoda was a jedi. It was about victory. Which he achieved. Vader was never stupid enough to think he could best Yoda. He sarcastically said he thought he rivaled Yoda as a swordman, but after losing to Obi Wan, I think he just knew better. And on top of that. Sidious was always trying to reign in Vader who was all about the love of the fight. That competitive streak was still quite present in Vader and it just wasn't necessary. And they both were also relying on Yoda holding back. Sticking strictly to jedi principles. If Yoda ever stopped holding back, the game was truly and simply over. As Dooku found out years earlier. Sidious likely saw Yoda's retreat as the best possible outcome after their duel. Yoda saw the stalemate as a failure on his end. In a duel where neither really knew the style of the other, Yoda held up well against the greatest sith(arguably) in history. After surviving the duel he likely would have learned enough to win round two. And Sidious wants absolutely none if that. He knew when to hold em, and when to fold em.
Anakin lost to a weak ass obiwan he stands 0 chance against yoda or windu. Yoda and windu are more powerful than sideous and both had him beat. Dark side at full strength doesn’t compete with light side at full strength. Dark side is better only at the lower rookie and mid tier ranks.
Vader probably didn't know Yoda was still alive. After all, the emperor is the one that faced off with Yoda. One does not simply ask a Sith Lord "so, did you kill Yoda?" He likely just assumed that since Yoda was no longer around, and the emperor didn't send him after Yoda, that he was dealt with.
I read in the novels (before Disney got their grubby hands on the franchise and ruined it for everybody), that Dagobah was a place deep in the Dark side of the force where Yoda could mask his presence. To Vader and Palpatine, it would be as if Yoda simply vanished.
@chalk6ix.. that is correct!! I'm glad someone read the original novels and understands that is Darth Vader nor Palpatine could find Yoda... Yoda was on that planet in cloak mode and actually when Luke Skywalker found him it was a win for the Rebellion and the beginning of the end for Vader and the Emperor
Yoda could have also converted Anakin back to the light side by wearing him down and also through his simplistic yet effective conversational approach.
Part of it, to me, is that Yoda simply disappeared. He went totally off the grid, kept his head down, didn't incite any uprisings, he just vanished like smoke in the wind. If Sidious pressured the search more heavily he would've soon be seen as their equivalent of Captain Ahab or maybe even Don Quixote. Also, don't forget the cave on Dagobah (an apparent backwater world so remote and/or worthless most wouldn't think to consider looking there), close to where Yoda lived, strong in the dark side of the Force which would act as a buffer against Yoda's own power, diminishing that method of tracking.
I heard somewhere that another reason they could not find Yoda, was because Dagobah was a Darkside planet & it's dark energy masked Yoda's light side energy.

Remeber, Anakin turned because of emotions. While I think the various power concerns mentioned were the "justification" for not hunting Yoda, I think at his core Anakin didn't want to kill him, just as he didn't Ashoka. He used Obi Wan as his lighting rod, because I think he could sense there was (allbeit held back) emotions between Obi Wan and Padme. However, when it came to Yoda and Ashoka, I think he genuinely still loved them like an Uncle and little sister, even as Vader.
i dont think obi wan had feelings with padme, by the time anakin was angry with obi wan over that he had already been groomed by sideous. he already believed the entire jedi council was against him becoming a master and included obi wan in that group. while believing the emperor was the one who truly appreciated him, his hatred wasnt for obi wan and padme having feelings, it was feeling betrayed by his master not appreciating him who trained him since he was a boy. plus obi wan was true to the jedi code, he wasnt fuckin around w naboo royalty
the dark side corrupted anakin through a vision of someone so CLOSE to him that to control them, would be to control him. the dark side turned anakin through confusing him, and misleading him towards the very future that he CLAIMED to not want. But in the end anakin did not CARE ABOUT PADME, because his addiction to the dark side meant destroying his previous identity that had been crafted for decades to be a jedi.
Edit: Short Answer: Yoda hid on Degobah as it was strong in the dark side due to a dark force Nexus left behind by a Bpfasshi Dark Jedi leader that was defeated by the Jedi Minch 700 BBY. He stayed there, as he was the last of the Jedi Masters whom was qualifiedto train Luke, so he could both hide his presence as well as train whomever was to come and rebuild the New Jedi Order.
Yoda wasn;t the last of the Jedi, he just told Luke that to get him to train seriously, Ashoka and Quinlan Vos survived also. Ashoka survived because just prior to Order 66 Rex found fragmented files on a computer and he, 5's, Hunter, Echo, Crosshair, Tech and Wrecker agreed to find her and protect her. They were programmed to obey Order 66 but they couldn't be made to obey it if they never received it so they simply turned off their coms and went dark so they never received the order and hid her on their home planet of Kamino. Vos was a reconlitionist and could always escape Vader because he would backtrack to wherever Vader had just been so he was following Vader following him and simply went home to Kiffu after Vader gave up and then simply refused to rejoin the Jedi Order Counsel of Luke Leia and Ashoka after the Emperor was thought to be killed by Vader and died of old age.
@Bryan O'Connor yes he was. According to the true teachings and path of the Jedi Code, Yoda was the last of the true Jedi. Ahsoka made it very clear that she was not a Jedi anymore. Also, many Jedi survived order 66, but the question was weather or not they continued to walk the Jedi path and they didn't. Just because they continued to use the force didn't mean they were still Jedi. Only Yoda continued to focus on the Jedi ways, even in isolation, so that he could one day rebuild the Jedi Order. Why do you think he hid? It wasn't because he was scared, it was because he knew that him eventually being the last meant he would be the last hope for the galaxy to bring back the Jedi Order. Once he had trained Luke with all that was needed at a knight class, it was then up to Luke and only Luke to rebuild the Jedi Order as he was the last of the Jedi.
@@kyletactfultheologian None of that is true, Go read the Books..... Vader hunted down and killed all of the Jedi except for Yoda, Obi-Wan, Ashoka and Quinlan Vos. Just because Ashoka didn't continue to follow the path of a Jedi doesn't mean she stopped being one, ever heard of a Former Marine? No... there's no such thing as a "former Marine", being a Jedi is the samething, She may not follow the ways of a Jedi or follow the rules and orders of the Jedi Counsel but she was still a Jedi, he even Count Dooku and Darth Vader was still Jedi even after they turned. Remember Obi-wan speech to Luke in A New Hope? "Your father was killed by a Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a Pupil of mine until he turned to evil". The only 4 that remained after Order 66 was Yoda, Obi-wan, Ashoka and Quinlan Vos, Vader never went after Yoda because he knew he couldn't beat him, He never went after Obi-Wan after Obi-wan beat him on Kashyyyk, which was the last episode of the new Obi-Wan Series. Vader never went after Ashoka because he knew that if he went after her he would also have to fight the "Bad Batch" who were the basically a Clone Special Forces group who wasn't reprogramed by Order 66 and he wouldn't win that battle even with stormtroopers, He went after Vos but gave up not long after because he simply couldn't find him, with Vos being a Reconlictionist He knew where Vader was and could avoid him.
@Bryan O'Connor ummm, yes it is true! I've read the books, all of them! Vader continued to hunt and kill the Jedi from 19 BBY to 3 ABY, (two years before ROTJ), as there were still a handful alive. However, once it came to Return of the Jedi, Luke was, in terms of the Jedi Code and teachings, the LAST Jedi. There were NO others that continued to followed the code as per the Jedi teachings. Yoda knew of there being two that could be Jedi, but he saw the light in Luke that was greater than the one his sister. He knew that Luke would see diplomacy over action so as to find a better way, unlike Anakin whom was mostly about action first. So, please do not lecture me about the books. I have all of them, including the graphic novels in addition to the limited edition manual books in their electric cases. If Vader couldn't take Obi-Wan in a fair fight at the peak of his power then a handicapped Vader that's dependent on cybernetics to survive wouldn't stand a chance against Yoda.
@matt That was the last time he fought prior to being put in his suit. Vader in the suit is canonically less than half of his power had he not lost on Mustafar. Vader adapts and becomes formidable in spite of his handicap but Vader is not capable of reaching his full potential. Had Anakin just let Obi-wan walk away instead of trying to one up him then Vader would be more powerful than Palpatine by the time of the original Star Wars movie. Lucas had said as much in interviews.
@@kaimagnus5760 haha lol, vader with armor is obviously stronger because his armor makes him suffer. The suffering reinforces his anger and his rage, and therefore, his power in the handling of the dark side
@matt Sounds like you just like to use Head Canon instead of The Lucas Interviews, The Old Canon Novels (The stuff that was Pre-Disney but not E.U.), and multiple post Disney Comics that have touched on the subject. Yoda canonically scales equal to Palpatine in power. If Vader is 80% of Palpatine's power level then he's also 80% of Yoda's power level. The only way Vader would have ever been higher than that, because Palpatine intentionally screwed him over when designing the Suit, was to have never been injured to begin with.
@@joyfoz2854 And is weak to Force Lightning, limits his mobility, and hinders his force connection. All intentional design flaws by Palpatine when he built it. He could have just as easily given him a highly mobile bio-suit that still allowed him to channel the force unhindered and didn't have glaring weaknesses like the lighting vulnerability had he wanted to.
I think the emperor saw a worthy opponent in Yoda (not so much as a duelist but in the mastery of the force). I believe that The Emperor didn’t have Darth Vader or his Inquisitors hunt Yoda is because he felt during their duel the truly devastating potential Yoda had for darkness. If Yoda turned; the emperor and Vader wouldn’t stand a chance. New Sith are unpredictable & Yoda was a high risk. He likely had already tried manipulating Yoda at some point when he was in the senate to no avail. So manipulating him like he did Vader wasn’t a viable option to rely on (& manipulation was his forte as well). So I’m sure he was more then happy to see Yoda holed up somewhere not being a nuisance.
Yoda was still a better duelist. It was never stated that Palps continued lightsaber training after the duel in the Srnate. Yoda disarmed him in their duel. Meaning Yoda was the better duelist and still is
There may have been something about the natural environment on Dagobah that helped Yoda stay hidden in the Force. When Luke was approaching the planet he did some kind of scan and told R2 that it had almost no technology, but "massive life readings". Also, as much as Anakin became disillusioned with the Jedi in general, I can't help but wonder if he still had a certain level of respect for Yoda.
Anakin and Yoda got along pretty well. Maybe subconsciously, Vader didn't want to kill Yoda. Obi Wan and Anakin were like brothers, but Vader blamed him for not only padme dying but also being horribly wounded in their battle on Mustafar.
Did you ever think that maybe Sidious wanted Yoda to live so that he could train Luke in the ways of the force, only to in the end cause him to turn to the Dark Side after killing his own father? We are starting to get into Franklin Herbert levels of stacked treacheries and plans within plans. But I would think that Sidious was that devious. He was absolutely that ruthless. That's why I like him.
It also partly depends on how much control you think the force has. Did the force will Yoda surviving, training Luke, etc. Because with all the suffering the Empire caused, I am sorry, but Anakin did not balance the force in ROTJ.
It is interesting to note: that Anakin was one of the three force ghosts at the end of return of the jedi. this means that Anakin`s heart was not pure evil. he loved Yoda and always regarded Yoda as his original teacher. Vader ignored hunting Yoda down because of his love and respect for his former, and most admired teacher. master Yoda this is most evident although everyone misses it. ^_*
Considering how Palps specifically tried to limit Vader’s growth, he knew sending him after Yoda would have ended Vader and Yoda couldn’t go after him because killing the chosen one would have been a issue with Palpatine still out there.
Yoda struck fear in the dark side users; it's obvious that he would have bested Vader and in a certain window even Sidious, force wise, after some training. I think it's in legends but there's a rare light side force ability that severs a Siths connection to the force.
From what I’ve read, he could not find Yoda, because where he was hiding, was cloaked in the dark side. Because a former dark Jedi had died there he was hiding in the energy so they couldn’t find him.
Yoda has deep knowledge of the people he fights. Fighting him is like fighting someone you deeply care about. Yoda is always asking people to understand themselves, and wants to resolve conflict without fighting. Its a mind game.
I think it is a lot of reasons I feel it is like those mentioned but I think also that Vader personally only cared more for the death of Obi-Wan at his hands plus I feel deep down inside the suit Anakin still had a lot of admiration and respect for the Grand Master as he was a mentor and advisor for all Jedi

The other thing I really enjoy from the original trilogy is how much Vader compliments Luke from learning from Obi Wan Kenobi. Neither he nor the Emperor knew (as far as I know) that Luke had been trained by Yoda as well.
It took the whole imperial fleet years to find the Rebel alliance hiding out on Hoth and how did they find them? With a Viper probe droid, had the Empire sent similar droids to Dagobah we can say with some confidence that Yoda's powers would have perverted him from being detected.

I'd love to watch a mini-series of Palpatine examining all the fake Yodas, almost like a singing content. They're all super shoddy, like an ewok painted green, as he just shouts "Next!" over and over, slowly realising it was a terrible idea...
Vader wasn’t interested in looking for Yoda. ObiWan perhaps but, he knew he couldn’t defeat Yoda until he was stronger in the Dark Side. Vader was more concerned with his feelings for Padme and being double crossed by the Emperor. Yoda was the least of his problems! 🤔💯
The main reason Vader didn't want Yoda captured is because he would be expected and pushed by the Emporer to fight him and he knew he had no chance against Yoda, Yoda has been a Jedi fir a ridiculously long time and is the Grandmaster respected by all, Anakin on the other hand didn't even finish his apprenticeship
I always felt Yodas jump to Dagobah was a defense tactic. He is literally surrounded by all living embodiments of the force. I think if a Sith landed on Dagobah he would get eaten by the earth.
Tbh it never seemed that as a Jedi Anakin never had a problem with Yoda and would have been like a "don't come to school" like situation. If it was Mace windu instead of Yoda he definitely would try to hunt him down
I believe it was Yoda's force abilities and Dagobah's force energy that masked his presence and he was therefore able to hide. I refuse to accept that Darth Vader and Sidious believed they would lose to Yoda against their entire empire. They would not vs. him one on one in a fair fight.
There's also the fact that Anakin was probably afraid not having enough animosity when confronting one of the last people to call him friend, i.e. of faltering in the dark side.
Dagobah was filled with life, no chance of finding someone there. And since the force flows through every life form, the jungle also hid yoda perfectly in that regard. Yoda was impossible to find.
Yeah - this is the best answer. Yoda was living in perfect camouflage, untraceable. Beyond that, Yoda alone wasn’t much of a threat based on all the layers of security protecting both Vader and Sidious.
@The Stupendous Wave I find it interesting and this is off topic how vader/duku hated the use of multiple sabers but yet trained others to use multiple sabers.
Legend has it, that they tried to find Yoda, but Yoda took control of the fleet commanders, whenever they came near to Dagobah. So, they tried, but they couldnt find him, because, although Yoda became physical weaker because of his age, he continued to become stronger and stronger in the force. The emporer could sense Yoda´s presence in the force and although he wanted to find him, at the same time he was aware, how dangerous it could be to accomplish that goal.
Wasnt there something in one of the books in legends that started on dagobah the tree luke faced the illusion of Vader in was so powerful in the dark side it prevented force user from finding yoda? (Or at least something along those lines)
I think the only reason there wasn’t another battle between yoda and any sith was because in ep 3 yoda was hurt mentally and that leads to the dark side and yoda is just too wise to fall into anything like that so he chose patience. he could’ve easily taken out vader for sure. On top of that sidious would have to face a darker more angry yoda using all of his power to bring him down and we all know how wise and powerful yoda was in the force, imagine him not limited anymore by the morals of a jedi. I would have left yoda alone too.
The story could have taken a wild turn if Vader had gone to Tattoine to talk to his half brother Owen. There is a possibility that ObiWan would have shown up and fought Vader right then and Vader would learn of the boy child not being that of Owen but his spawn. That would have changed the whole star wars universe.
pretty much all the comments below are valid. However I also read on someones page that Dagobah is a vergence for the dark side. Which to me implies Yoda knew that Palpatine and Anakin couldn't imagine Yoda would willingly choose to hide there. Obi Wan was on Tatooine, merely because Anakin hates sand. That's why Vader didn't go down to the planet. Yoda and Obi Wan both knew where the other was. How else was Obi wan as Ben was able to direct Luke to Dagobah. Both knew the connection between Luke and Anakin. That's why Luke saw himself when he confronted the imagined Vader in that cave
Also my personal belief is that Palpatine and Vader knew that Yoda WOULDN'T act out. Wouldn't rise up due to his failure on Coruscant and challenge them ever again.
This is extremely smart of Yoda. He hid on Dantooine. I had dark side nexus. Extremely powerful dark side nexus. It hid Yoda's pressence and protected him. It's possible Vader was afraid of searching for Yoda. I think Yoda would beat Vader. He could mess with Vader suit, play with his mind(which he would probably do D like he played with Luke :D ). Jedi were devastated, psychological effect of Order 66 were tremendous. They were shaken to the core and beyond. And yes it was extremely difficult for Yoda to watch galaxy suffer, his Jedi brethren scattered . But Yoda waited right moment. Like he said to Obi-wan and Bail Organa. He waited Luke and Lea to grow up,to be strong enough. "Until time is right, disappear we will". Obi-Wan watch over Luke,as he said. He took the child and watch over him. May the Force be with you too. Have a nice day too :D
The fact that Yoda hid on Dagobah, a Dark Side Nexus that rivals Dathomir... Is interesting, to say the least. Palpatine, would have been the best hunter to go there. Considering his strength in the Dark Side, and ability to mask himself. But, that said. A Sith, facing Yoda there would certainly HAVE to be able to channel the force in order to have enough strength to best Yoda. By and large, that is an ability more commonly found with the Jedi. And indicates that Yoda was using Dagobah as a trap for any hunters. Because a dark side nexus would certainly lead into a false sense of superiority for an inexperienced sith or inquisitor. And ultimately be their downfall. Now, if say the Jensuraai were asked to go after Yoda, and of course very well trained. A Jensuraai could theoretically channel the dark side energy to give them the upper hand. Being their training originated from a former Padawan... Their effectiveness would certainly be questionable. TBH, I think Palpatine had become too complacent after ROTS. Given how Palpatine had orchestrated events prior... It's a break in the continuity that to me doesn't make sense. Perhaps the Mace Windu reflected force lightning event, damaged Palpatine in ways he didn't understand or accommodate for. But, Palpatine certainly was lackadaisical in pursuing Yoda. Sure, it was certainly a mind game on the surviving Jedi. However, that said... Palpatine as a character, certainly would have expected any well trained Jedi to have the ability to let go of their attachment to any mental anguish, and ultimately regroup. And for how good of a strategic planner Palpatine was... It's certainly a break in character. So for Palpatine to allow a few survivors to go. Doesn't make sense, especially for him to allow Yoda to survive. Granted, subjugation of the remaining in the Galaxy was an important task... But, with an Empire at your command. Along with a huge military force... Palpatine had no reason to micromanage it like that. Unless, as I said; Windu did some very important injury to Palpatine that forced him to micromanage as such. But, I digress. As we seen with Starkiller finding Yoda, being terrified of his power because Yoda lived in a Nexus like that... That small bit of information would have been sufficient for Palpatine to have devised a way to get at, and kill Yoda. So to put some analysis on it. It was complacency, possibly due to the aftermath of injury from his fight with Windu... It was ultimately, the beginning of his downfall. Could they have got Yoda? Absolutely. But, and this is a common bit in not only fiction, but also as we've seen with diabolical real life people like Ted Bundy... They eventually grow tired, and want to be caught. However, history and fiction has shown us that isn't always true. And from a character analysis standpoint. Palpatine doesn't fit the bill of one who would want to be stopped. It's definitely an ambiguous plot hole. And one I don't believe the writers will ever be able to recover from in any way that make sense.
@6:45 It's a weird point to say that during the time of his exile he "was approaching 900 years old" and was "arguably far too advanced in age" to be the threat he once was...like that time in just the sentence prior where he almost bested Sidious in personal combat. Only, that was only like 20 years before. Weird to imply he aged that much between 880 and 900 years old.
I don't think it would matter what Yoda Vader faced, it'd of been too much of a handicap for Vader as he's nowhere near as mobile as Anakin Skywalker was, and anyone who's seen Yoda fight knows mobility is a must, and while Vader could theoretically draw upon the force to aid him even more so on Dagobah for some odd reason I feel a damp swamp planet and clunky robotics just would not mix well.
Don’t forget that mostly Mace was the one putting Anaken on his place and held him down. Yes Yoda always a greed but always had second thouts when he did. And Yoda ignored his feelings but always took the time to listen what Anaken had to say when he felt bad
Mace told Anakin to sit down when Anakin was yelling in a meeting. That's not "putting him in his place", that's reprimanding an unruly Jedi. No one was holding Anakin down, that was Palpatine whispering lies in Anakin's ear. The truth that Anakin didn't want to face was that he was too uncontrolled to be a Master, too emotional and too undisciplined. Why would they make someone like that a Master?
I wasn’t only talking about that moment. Just watched the movies again 2 days ago. He was the first to say that Anakin shouldn’t be trained. He was the one telling him to stay put in the academy when he exposed the emperor and so one and so one. Ofc palpatine was the one turning him with lies. But thats not the only factor their are so many. Jin dying. Obi not going in to his feelings. The Council involving them self to much in politics etc
Yoda purposely hid on a planet where a powerful sith was killed and his force essence remained balancing out the force and making him less detectable. It was the perfect hiding place for him. The planet was teaming with primal life and the force. It wasn't that Vader wasn't looking for him, it was that Vader couldn't possibly find him.
Palpatine wanted Yoda to be alive to see how the Jedi Order failed and how the Sith took over, and to dwell in his failures. And also, we see many misconceptions regarding the fight with Palpatine. In the novels, while fighting Sidious, Yoda realizes he isn’t able to defeat Palpatine and he was getting tired. If the fight continued, Yoda dies and Vader does too. Yoda was able to escape with the “force explosion,” which in turn saved Vader.
I have to assume Vader didn’t hunt for Yoda because he either assumed he was already dead or the fact Vader as Anakin had a deep respect for master Yoda and even as Vader didn’t seek to fight him Even if he did want to hunt for Yoda to get to Kenobi I think even he knew Yoda wouldn’t be that link Even if he knew he wouldn’t break
The reason why Yoda is not bothered because Dagobah has serious seagulls infestation problems, it’s so serious not even the Jedi Grandmaster can avoid the deadly swarm attacks.
Well more or less what I thought, they searched for him for him and they surely spent a lot of resources on it, but the galaxy was just so a big of a place for them to have a real chance to find him, also joda must have used the force to disuade some searching parties, so, he was basically impossible to find and they had other priorities.
This was already explained. Sideous ordered Vader to not pursue Obi-Wan & Yoda. Obi-Wan because Sideous was afraid of the potetial that Anakin could return to the light side or die if he confronted Obi-Wan again, and Yoda because Sideous couldn't even beat him so he knew for sure Vader couldn't. Not hunting down Yoda & Obi-Wan was unnecessary because they already had the entire galaxy in their hands, it was too risky to take the chance.
I think if anakin didn’t lose his limbs and metaclorien count I think he would have stood a chance of defeating yoda ,,,as sidious said….Vader will be stronger than both of us in revenge of the sith! Anakin was the chosen one after all
If Vader hadn't been burned, that means he killed Obi-Wan on Mustafar. This would make him even more brash and arrogant, and I could absolutely see him chasing down Yoda after the Empire's power was consolidated. Yoda would've mopped the floor with Vader or full-potential Anakin in the timeframe they would've met. Only way Vader wins is ten or fifteen years later if he's full-potential. Any other duel would've seen Yoda's skill demonstrating why Anakin should have taken his studies more seriously. It would've been Anakin's final duel with Tyrannus, but reversed: an almost close battle where Yoda exploits openings until Anakin is incapacitated and killed. Yoda's battle with Dooku in AotC is an even better example of what would happen.
I think it was the Will of the Force. If Vader had encountered Yoda one of them would not survive the encounter. If Yoda had died at Vader's hand then who would train Luke after Kenobi's death? If Yoda had killed Vader than who could replace Vader at sidious side and would Luke ever be able to prevent himself from falling to the dark side following his father footsteps without the epiphany that hit him once he cut off Vader's hand on the death star.
from only the title.. Yoda camped near a dark side cavern. The ESU mentions a dark jedi once got to Degobah, and it's assumed Yoda killed him and by killing him, his essence corrupted the cavern.. and camping next to a place strong in the dark side of the force really masks Yoda's power so he had his safety.
Man, it's simple. Aint NO ONE wanted that smoke from Yoda lol.
Lmao facts my first thought was it’s definitely cause Yoda would kick Vader’s ass
I couldn’t have said this any better
“That smoke they didn’t want.”
Have any of y’all met anakin?? Smoke was his middle name. Anakin never met a fight he didn’t want to challenge.
But yet he ran after gettin that ass whooop durnin 66
There are a few reasons why Vader didn't pursue Yoda. Siddious literally ordered him not to. Vader knew deep down that he would lose if they were to cross paths. There was nothing more to be gained in hunting him down.
I believe you are right
Could of shortened this video down to 30 seconds
Sidious said it was better to let yoda live to experience the haunting reality of his failure.
@TheJesusNerd40 Sidious is a liar and he also tried to run away from Yoda too. Lol. He fears Yoda.
Also, it may have been that Yoda was capable of shielding himself from other Jedi's minds through manipulating the force.
i thought the same
Very good point

Vader would of def killed Yoda
@@bini2851I’m such a big Vader fan I inked Vader on my arm but even I know that Yoda would stomp Vader it’s a fact
Nah. Yoda lost.
@Chzydawg Lucas confirmed that Mace genuinely won the duel.

@The Vodouisant but he knew Padme died, he must have known the kids lived.
Yes I go with that theory too.
@@FloridaEbikes Obi-Whine
Granted I haven’t read the comics but still
@AmericanCalabar great answer
if sidious power is 19500 and 80 percent of that is 15,600 that means Vader got weaker after Mustafa.
I have a theory that Yoda's species is from Dagobah, and that's why he feels the most in tune and at peace there.
It didn't seem deliberate.
good take, also Vader being afraid is meh to me. Dude's legit built not to be afraid
The last glimmer of light still remaining inside Vader that Luke was able to bring back to the fore?
It could also be attributed to him having more than a couple memories of seeing what Yoda can do. The guy wins when Anakin can't, and fought his master while he lost the chance to ever do that on even ground. And knowing he's still alive even though Palpatine won the fight?
Yoda is like, some mythical Jedi legend in Anakin's head. "Bro is actually cool and will also 100% floor me if I step. Nah."
I agree totally. I think Vader would have been ashamed to be face to face with Yoda and for him to see what he had become.
I agree. But also when you have the entire Empire on your side, the leaders don't go on suicide missions to take out irrelevant has-beens.
You underestimate Anakin and severely overestimate Yoda.
@@Gabu_ Ana who? You mean the guy who got ggez'ed by Obi Wan?
Anakin lost to a weak ass obiwan he stands 0 chance against yoda or windu. Yoda and windu are more powerful than sideous and both had him beat. Dark side at full strength doesn’t compete with light side at full strength. Dark side is better only at the lower rookie and mid tier ranks.
Like TFS master Roshi.
The fight was never mentioned, I think anakin was going off the first attempt when the order got launched
I read in the novels (before Disney got their grubby hands on the franchise and ruined it for everybody), that Dagobah was a place deep in the Dark side of the force where Yoda could mask his presence. To Vader and Palpatine, it would be as if Yoda simply vanished.
That’s interesting and pretty clever of Yoda
That really makes sense. Thank you.
@chalk6ix.. that is correct!! I'm glad someone read the original novels and understands that is Darth Vader nor Palpatine could find Yoda... Yoda was on that planet in cloak mode and actually when Luke Skywalker found him it was a win for the Rebellion and the beginning of the end for Vader and the Emperor
EXACTLY. Books are just amazing and Disney is making a complete mess
I think he even said it in the original movie.
Exactly

Edit:
Short Answer: Yoda hid on Degobah as it was strong in the dark side due to a dark force Nexus left behind by a Bpfasshi Dark Jedi leader that was defeated by the Jedi Minch 700 BBY.
I have been a dedicated fan for 29 years and, trust me, I know way more than you.
@@kyletactfultheologian Apparently you never read the ORIGINAL books, the "New Jedi Counsel" was Luke, Leia, Ashoka and Quinlan Vos. IF Luke became the Last of the Jedi when Yoda died then explain how Ashoka and Quinlan, who were Jedi atleast 10 years before Luke and Leia were even born were apart of the New Cousel? They are an offshoot of an offshoot of an offshoot of an offshoot story of the original books, which had already been written 40 years ago.
If Vader couldn't take Obi-Wan in a fair fight at the peak of his power then a handicapped Vader that's dependent on cybernetics to survive wouldn't stand a chance against Yoda.
@matt Who said anything about that trash? I was talking about the battle in Revenge of The Sith.
Yoda = Pure, no dark side
lol except yoda was the very embodiment of the jedi principles. he was beyond being turned to the darkside - it isnt even possible.
@@MrOptimusheath Jedi principles were flawed. He learned that too late. That’s why Luke’s Order was different.
@TheDevilOfDallas He didnt use forcw lightning he just pushed it back lol
Yoda was still a better duelist. It was never stated that Palps continued lightsaber training after the duel in the Srnate. Yoda disarmed him in their duel. Meaning Yoda was the better duelist and still is
As Yoda frequently stated: "If fuck around, you do; find out you will."
No sidious never knew about luke
It also partly depends on how much control you think the force has. Did the force will Yoda surviving, training Luke, etc. Because with all the suffering the Empire caused, I am sorry, but Anakin did not balance the force in ROTJ.
There was another level to this, Remember Darth asked Luke to join him to defeat the Emperor at the sky city, to rule the galaxy as Father and Son
@@daniell5740 Really, then why did Sidious want him to bring Luke before him In the very first movie?

Everything before is the same sentence reworded 20 times 😂
Thank you.
Yoda struck fear in the dark side users; it's obvious that he would have bested Vader and in a certain window even Sidious, force wise, after some training. I think it's in legends but there's a rare light side force ability that severs a Siths connection to the force.
Thank you for all the video. May the force be with you
From what I’ve read, he could not find Yoda, because where he was hiding, was cloaked in the dark side. Because a former dark Jedi had died there he was hiding in the energy so they couldn’t find him.
Count Dooku erased the entire Degobah system from the Jedi archives most likely the Empire had no clue the planet even existed.
Darth Siddious got that smoke and knew there was no chance in hell
The cadence of the narration, the emphasis on certain syllables, is absolutely maddening.
Yoda has deep knowledge of the people he fights. Fighting him is like fighting someone you deeply care about. Yoda is always asking people to understand themselves, and wants to resolve conflict without fighting. Its a mind game.
Obi Wan defeated Vader, twice. He KNEW Yoda could end him. And Sidious knew Yoda could bring Vader back to the light.
@@willhamilton927 once.
They still feared yoda and vader would get merked
I think it is a lot of reasons I feel it is like those mentioned but I think also that Vader personally only cared more for the death of Obi-Wan at his hands plus I feel deep down inside the suit Anakin still had a lot of admiration and respect for the Grand Master as he was a mentor and advisor for all Jedi
1:30 in and the amount of times you said finding today didn't matter not even to vadar was 6 times, that's 1 every 12 odd seconds. Stop time wasting in your videos repeating the same statement 6 times
It's really noticeable, and almost ai like
The other thing I really enjoy from the original trilogy is how much Vader compliments Luke from learning from Obi Wan Kenobi.
Yoda was simply to powerful for Vader and given Yoda's force abilities, I'm sure Yoda had the ability to mask his presence as well.

I'd love to watch a mini-series of Palpatine examining all the fake Yodas, almost like a singing content. They're all super shoddy, like an ewok painted green, as he just shouts "Next!" over and over, slowly realising it was a terrible idea...
yes
If it was Mace windu instead of Yoda he definitely would try to hunt him down
Probably not Mace either. Mace did best Sidious. So Yoda and Mace would be off limits.
@Timian Mallory I think he would look for mace
Mace didn't even exist in the original trilogy
@@backtoshallabal6662yes he was killed before the original trilogy happened

Not to mention Count Dooku erased the entire Dagobah system from the Jedi's archives so they would not even know where to begin looking for him.
Maybe Sidious was ashamed he technically lost too and didn't want Vader to know. Imagine how much faith would be lost if sidious admitted that
Love this lore. Great video really enjoyed this one.
I seem to remember this fact from the book
Yoda had already killed dark jedi who made it to Dagoba. He wasn't so perfectly hidden that Sidious didn't know he was there.
@@ericpease6026 - I’m talking about the films which George Lucas wrote first and foremost 👍🏼
Planet was surrounded by the Dark Side
@The Stupendous Wave I find it interesting and this is off topic how vader/duku hated the use of multiple sabers but yet trained others to use multiple sabers.
Simple, Vader couldn’t beat Yoda!
Love your intro, the way you use language in it is so much fan-service!
Also my personal belief is that Palpatine and Vader knew that Yoda WOULDN'T act out. Wouldn't rise up due to his failure on Coruscant and challenge them ever again.
He feared Yoda. Fear was his weakness.
Dagobah, not Dantooine.
@@SplinteredChaos Sorry 😀
It's like going from 88-90, a big difference for some
I don't think it would matter what Yoda Vader faced, it'd of been too much of a handicap for Vader as he's nowhere near as mobile as Anakin Skywalker was, and anyone who's seen Yoda fight knows mobility is a must, and while Vader could theoretically draw upon the force to aid him even more so on Dagobah for some odd reason I feel a damp swamp planet and clunky robotics just would not mix well.
Because he knew good and well Yoda woulda fucked him up.
1. Yoda was always nice to him.
2. You dont mess with that crazy grandpa dwarf
Yoda really did identify as a threat ☠️
Yoda purposely hid on a planet where a powerful sith was killed and his force essence remained balancing out the force and making him less detectable. It was the perfect hiding place for him. The planet was teaming with primal life and the force. It wasn't that Vader wasn't looking for him, it was that Vader couldn't possibly find him.
Yoda would've instantly destroyed the breathing apparatus on Vader's chest with the force. ... Game over from there.
Smart Yoda is.
Probably poke him to death with his cane while talking shit lol
Vader can keep himself alive without the apparatus for awhile with the force. But yoda would still be to much for Vader.
2:09 “the little green Jedi” 😂😂😂
Palpatine wanted Yoda to be alive to see how the Jedi Order failed and how the Sith took over, and to dwell in his failures. And also, we see many misconceptions regarding the fight with Palpatine. In the novels, while fighting Sidious, Yoda realizes he isn’t able to defeat Palpatine and he was getting tired. If the fight continued, Yoda dies and Vader does too. Yoda was able to escape with the “force explosion,” which in turn saved Vader.
I have to assume Vader didn’t hunt for Yoda because he either assumed he was already dead or the fact Vader as Anakin had a deep respect for master Yoda and even as Vader didn’t seek to fight him
Even if he did want to hunt for Yoda to get to Kenobi I think even he knew Yoda wouldn’t be that link
Even if he knew he wouldn’t break
The reason why Yoda is not bothered because Dagobah has serious seagulls infestation problems, it’s so serious not even the Jedi Grandmaster can avoid the deadly swarm attacks.
Is there a video on how old Vader was for every Jedi he fought and killed I think would be interesting
"Smoke you want not" - Yoda
Great video!
Well more or less what I thought, they searched for him for him and they surely spent a lot of resources on it, but the galaxy was just so a big of a place for them to have a real chance to find him, also joda must have used the force to disuade some searching parties, so, he was basically impossible to find and they had other priorities.
In the original revenge of the Sith script anakin did fight yoda in palpatine’s office. Anakin held his own very briefly until palpatine intervened
The real question is how come Darth Sidious never made a clone of Anakin that he could control
Because he enjoyed torturing Vader to no end.
Thanks for making these videos. I appreciate you sharing your extensive knowledge and time for me to learn from. So thank you.

5:50 You said “Mater” 😂 🛻
Yoda's battle with Dooku in AotC is an even better example of what would happen.
...NNNNNNOOOOOOO
I never thought about that. That made a lot of sense. Yoda, although old, but he's powerful
Forget the fighting
Anakin wouldnt even be able to look Yoda in the eye after order 66
Vader never went after yoda for the same reason that anyone wouldn’t. They like being alive.
“Because Yoda would dog walk him. The end.”
from only the title..
