- For over twenty years, Portland's YOB have been pioneering the doom metal genre with crushing, rolling songs underlaid by stoic lyricism. Following lead singer and guitarist Mike Scheidt's scary brush with death in 2017, YOB returned this year with the incredible album, "Our Raw Heart", with reflections on fighting to climb out of whatever hole you might be in - and appreciating the journey as you do.
One of the absolute best active bands of the genre. Glad Mike's still with us.

Adrift in the Ocean is one of the greatest songs ever! Hail YOB
It’s one of three songs I wish I could have written the other two are “from wisdom to hate” by Gorguts and Manzanita by Tony Rice
"with reflections on fighting to climb out of whatever hole you might be in - and appreciating the journey as you do.
" - couldn't describe it in any better way. Cheers to everyone struggling out there.
What we need, is the whole gig. Great camerawork and the sound is perfect.
Our Raw Heart is an incredible album, this is a great interview and the live performance is captivating. YOB IS LOVE
What a beautifully shot piece! Thank you so much.
One (1) dislike.
An R. Kelly fan.
What a great interview and superb live recording. With less than 2k views ?!!? This might be the most underrated doom metal video to date.
What a great performance! Love this band!
incredible live performance
What a stellar live band...holy fuck👏👏👏...I remeber YOB from the early mid 2000's and havent heard any thing since The Unreal Never Lived...damn they are a fucking amazing live unit to behold
Wait a tick. Is that the PBS logo I see next to the letters APT? What a time to be alive!
I seemed to have a habit of getting into Doom bands and then finding out the singer died before I discovered them (Type O Negative, Woods of Ypres). Glad when I found YOB and took a huge liking that Mike survived his close encounter with death.
David was a massive Type O fan too.
@@BrofUJu Didn't know that, makes sense though! Pretty awesome
@@zdf14 It's definitely there, you can tell on the last two WoY albums... they have a huge TON influence in their sound, like "Kiss My Ashes (Goodbye)".
It's a pretty stark contrast to the earlier black metal style (which I liked a lot as well... hell my favorite WoY song is "The Sea of Immeasurable Loss" which is pretty much straight up black metal, lol.
BTW if you like Woods of Ypres, check out Thrawsunblat, especially Metachthonia from 2016. Lead vocalist/guitarist was in Woods.
@@demoncleaner80 I actually discovered WoY by someone mentioning that they sound like Type O. The sound is definitely there, I just didn't know there was any direct influence for sure.
But thanks I'll check them out!
Trees of Eternity too
Yob is love
The one person that thumbed this video down was probably Justin Bieber.
and i have all your albums though
Where was this? and what date was it?
Yob isn't from Portland. Eugene!
Mike looks like Marc Maron cosplaying Tommy Chong.

there's so much bass in the mix lmao. really good performance but god that's too much bass
