- When the subject of the Doukhobors comes up in conversation, many people remember them as a rebellious people who condoned violence against the government in Canada. Within this documentary, you will learn the truth of the Doukhobor people and the Sons of Freedom: also Doukhobors and their beliefs, traditions and desire to keep their culture. This documentary took place at Blaine Lake, SK where one of the first Doukhobor settlements can still be visited and experienced. Producer/Editor - Trona Garvie, Camera Operator - Brandon Jarocki

I grew up in slocan valley 1960 1970 loved growing up with the doukabours
God Bless the dukhobortsy and all their brethren the molokhani, etc.. What the Canadians did to them was mild compared to what happened to them in Russia. Leo Tolstoy and Victor chertkov wrote a book about their persecution.

Everytime I see the suffix -"off" on surnames in Western Canada... Doukhobor background. There are some in Georgia today and there too, they maintain their Russian language and choose to be pacifist. Republic of Georgia

Did you know that Doukhobors were a part of the assimilation process? Our ancestors were placed in CHRISTIAN residential schools to forcibly replace the Doukhobor teachings with Christian teachings because the Doukhobor way of life "did not fit" with the liberal plans for Canada at that time.
This means that the many unmarked graves at those residential schools and churches may contain Doukhobor children.
Please do not accept defeat and follow Christianity as those teachings were forced on our ancestors.
