My favorite Freddie Mercury and Monseratte Cabellé song is How can I go on equally powerful, Monseratte said while singing that song together Freddie's eyes were brimming with tears and she knew in that moment he truly realized his fate. He adored her and they remained close until his passing, Monseratte sang at Freddie's funeral. 🌹
This is my favorite version, Freddie is totally being Freddie. Freddie loved the opera. He went to see a performance of Pavarotti and Montserrat was also performing. He was totally captivated by Montserrat and said during an interview that his favorite singer was Montserrat and would love to sing with her. How Can I Go On and Golden Boy are two others you should listen to. People tend to forget that Freddie was a brilliant musician and composer. Golden Boy is Freddie’s fusion of opera with rock + soul + gospel..
I was there it was my first holiday with friends and without parents! We all knew it was so amazing and spectacular but I don't think we realised the special thing we had seen. You should check out Freddie and Monserat at "La Nit " singing "How can I go on". Monserat said in an interview that halfway through the song she saw him breaking down as he was realising it would be one of his last performances so she took his hand. Its a beautiful song .
That has to be one of the most unusual collaborations in history but it works so wonderfully, when I heard it back in the late 80s I was blown away by it & even today whenever I hear it I get the same feelings, can't think of another song in my whole collection that gives me goosebumps everytime I listen too it
Hey Todd - Yippee!! 🎉 I love this performance!! The backstory on how these Heavenly beings met is a dream come true!! Barcelona was the theme song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. Sadly, Freddie would not live long enough to perform it live with Montserrat! M favorite off the album is called THE GOLDEN BOY .. music by Freddie lyrics by Sir Tim Rice. Thanks Todd 😊
Hi Debra ... Thank you for further information on this song. It is definitely impressive. I have heard from other RUclipsrs that The Golden Boy is also a wonderful song. I will defintely be doing a reaction for that song in the near future. Take care ...
It made me laugh when I heard Freddie say in an interview that he thought he would have to tone down his performance!!! 😂😂 Fredde looks so happy at the end that it brings tears to my eyes. They obviously adored one another.
Awesome reaction, thanks for reacting to this request! Another great song to check out from these two is, The Golden Boy - Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballe. at La Nit 1988. Women have voices that are one octave higher then men naturally, which is why it takes good skills to arrange a duet such as this one, where you need both singers to be able to sing in the correct range. Freddie wasn't trying to sing an operatic style, each artist stuck to their own style. During this time the operatic world could be quite elitist, Pavarotti actually even spoke out against this collaboration. Montserrat Caballe was known as one of the best opera sopranos of all time. Later on Pavarotti retracted his comments and did actually praise the collaboration, it led to him doing a few collaborations with contemporary singers. This album was a first of it's kind. There was one song where Freddie took a more operatic approach, Ensueno - Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballe.
Hi Zenobia ... This was an incredible duet. As soon as Freddie started singing, I thought "wow, he is using his Queen voice and all so natural Freddie." Thank you for the request. Another great song I would never have heard if not for you. Take care ...
Of course everyone knows that when the intended collaboration of two such musical giants from totally different genres was first learnt of, it was greeted with scorn and ridicule. To combine elements of rock and opera successfully was an impossibility, which would have dire consequences for both artists, it was claimed. Luciano Pavarotti even stated that Montserrat was betraying her operatic heritage in proceeding. Fortunately both were steadfast in their commitment and with this performance, spectacularly silenced their detractors forever...! "Todd" you mentioned elements of "Queen" in this epic duet....? Permit me to suggest that it was/is in fact, pure "Freddie" featuring more fully, the elements that were already appearing in his earlier "Queen" songs...? Sadly both musical legends are now long past, yet thanks to technology we can still enjoy even thrill to this triumphant anthem.. Freddie once said to Montserrat, "Montsy..! You Are Music and Music recognises no age,,!!".. How true that is, even after 36 years..!!
Freddie wrote this and the album with Mike Moran. He is the gentleman in the video with the Brian May like hair who is conducting and playing the piano.
You must watch Freddie in The Show Must Go On, 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Thank you for reviewing this. You will enjoy, How Can I Go On by the same two artists.
Your reaction brought me joy. As this song always does. Thanks for that!
Exercise in free love is pure Freddie operatic vocals
They had a great love and respect for each other and it shows in their performance. They were the best of friends.
Barcelona is the appetizer, The Golden Boy is the main course!
Bon appetit

Montserrat Maravilhosa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Diva
My take on Freddie is that he IS a musician who can do everything and anything including Rock n Roll 🥰✌🏼

Hi Alistair ... I agree, it is a wonderful duet. The two work so well together. They are a natural together. Thanks for your comment and take care ...

And Montserrat
They did another great song called The Golden Boy
Hi Bobby ... I have many a request for The Golden Boy. Watch for a future reaction to this song. Enjoy!
