It was a little shocking at first, but being grab for a free lunch was really nice. One of the many things we love about China. We didn't add it into this video, because of time, but during the lunch a group of young boys ( 8-10 years old) wanted to take pictures with us because they had never seen foreigners before and after taking pictures they left, but came back 5 mins later with a drink for us. We didn't take their drink because we didn't want them to spend money on us, but the gesture was really sweet and kind.
Four universities will partially move or expand to Xiongan from Beijing starting in 2025. Four state-owned multinational company HQs will be relocated from Beijing to Xiangan as well. It will take about 10 years to complete the relocation.
True, but I think the bigger reason westerners avoid fish dishes in China is the way they are cooked. We don't usually have bones in our fish because of the way it is processed, so it takes some time to get use to the way fish is cooked here.
City is quite clean and no homeless . 11:00 🤣🤣 He missed the chance to record how tall Yvonne is. It would be hilarious to see a film reel of Yvonne drag out by stranger for photos... She is always popular. Although people aggressively marketing their business on street is unpleasant, I can assure you that being solicited for drug sale by dudes in the street corner while worrying if they are armed is infinitely worse. Chicago I am talking about.
Yes, the people offering boat rides wasn't too bad compared to other places or drugs... but I got a little overwhelmed because it started the first moment we stepped outside our hotel. Also, I'm sure I have tons of footage of Yvonne getting her picture taken.... It could be funny to put it all together one day.
I think Xiongan looks great. Especially comparing it to other existing, older chinese cities and neighborhoods that have not been developed yet. Long into the future, will we see more and more older, poor neighborhoods abandoned and people move to this kind of city possibly? Yesterday I saw video of Zhou Zhou that has been struck by flooding disaster, showed it's not organized, and undeveloped. So definitely Xiongan is much better.
I was impressed by it, because I didn't know what to expect when we went out there. It was just kind of a whim to go there, but it was much better than I was expecting.
The owner stated that she was inviting you for lunch and you didn’t have to pay. ”我请你们吃饭,不要钱”。That was neglected by you guys. Sure, there was an angle as she wanted an endorsement. 天下没有免费的午餐。There are many benefits foreigners get in China. That most local people won’t get.
I recall seeing a documentary of Shengzhen, a similar scenario. Still, a long way to go. Perhaps another 5 years to see the real impact another 5 to normalize. However, if anyone intends to move in and doesn't mind traveling an hour to work, this is the best time. 😂😍😋By the way, would be nice to know where exactly this restaurant is located.
The high speed train connecting Beijing to Xion'an wasn't bad and it is only like an hour ride. I think this city will fill up in a few years and people will think they missed a good opportunity to live in a really nice city.
The whole time you guys were saying "点评" I was so confused which platform you meant... I was like, I didn't know an app called "电冰", is that something new that just caught on? Maybe they meant to say "煎饼"? Or even "抖音"? When she said it the final time I finally got it, ohhhh, 大众点评, lol...
As a Chinese has been in abroad for over 20 years, it’s hard to give enough personal space at the beginning, body touching, arms grabbing were common when I was in China, it’s one of the best memories when us girls walking on streets / shopping at shops with arms locked from one another……
It's meant to be the model Socialist city. Basically Xi believes that a great economic crisis will happen in the next 20-30 years and China will economically slow down like the other developed states. China will by then move from Socialist market economy to full blown Socialism. Thus in this city the main goal is to provide public services and rather than finance capital driven it will be mostly public owned. The role of AI is to allow society to run without needing much labor power. This city won't make much sense to people now because they think it's another ghost city but once it's completed it'll be very clear what Xi Jinping is trying to achieve.
Yes, lots of areas are working on recovery work now, but it seems to have been a little overblown by the news (at least in our area, it didn't seem too bad).
time for another cup of your favorite drink. i thought you are in europe now??? i still think we need to see how the city will evolve in 2028 and draw a conclusion then. love from canada.
Thanks for the coffee! We just got back to China a few days ago. We had filmed this video before leaving, but I didn't have time to edit it. I agree we will have to wait and see if this project evolves before we can make any final judgement on it, but so afar it seems interesting. How have you been?
there is something just exotic about China the diversity is second to none you have the sprawling metropolis then you have the minority cultures but yet you know its all China haha
It's good to have a lighthearted topic for discussions during this time of shouting matches all over the internet. Thirty plus years ago when the country was dirt poor, almost all the hills and mountains in China were bare of trees mainly because people collected wood to heat their homes. During that period of time when the whole populace toiled day and night to churn out goods for the West, nobody cared about the environment, let alone trees on the mountains. Things slowly improved and trees started to reappear. In 2014, Chai Jing, a China Central Television journalist, launched an investigation into the smog problem in Beijing that sparked an outcry from other concerned citizens. The Chinese government, under the helm of newly appointed Xi Jinping, panicked at first but later recognized the importance of the problem and worked hard to rectify the situation. Ten years have passed by and now every Chinese is very proud of the achievements the country has made. The feel-good sentiment is so pervasive that even Xi later proclaimed that "a mountain of gold or a mountain of silver does not compare to a mountain of greenery." Thirty plus years ago, the only city in China that still retained some form of greenery was Nanjing, with its beautiful cedar trees lining most streets in the city. Other famous attractions in Suzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Xiamen, etc. all looked stale with almost no greenery at all. Nowadays, even third-tiered cities have lush gardens everywhere you go. What a transformation! I believe Xiong'an will become a green city, if not a garden city, as time goes on. Yes, it is good to see that the government and people are becoming more aware of the environmental impacts. If things keep going this way in 50-100 years, China will be the top country fighting climate change.
Forgot about that, the whole Xiongan area is planned for thousands later , the whole underground full of drainage systems , Xiong an was the only area didn’t influenced by floods in Hebei Province. Stop watching those anti China propaganda.
Most possibly…the reason those who see to the whole xiong an construction project giving this new city a name like 'smart city', was to please members of politbureau. Whether it's smart or not, doesn't matter, everybody knows ain't no one will check it out. at least those who made up such a fancy name thinks they're the smartest, Cuz they could be promoted by fooling those big boss lol

Like the way they steam-cleaned the cutlery before eating.
That stonebow steam fish looks awesome! I wish someone grabs me for a free lunch.

wow amazing park, love traditional Chinese architecture
Fishes steam boiled in stone bowl, wow, a very delicious one, i know a restaurant serving this cuisine in Beijing, unbelievably delicious!
It was much better than we thought it would be at first. We don't normally eat a lot of fish or meat, but this was a nice surprise!

River fish has no mercury poisoning and radiation from Fukoshima.
