It’s interesting seeing your progression. Do you get tired of speed work. I always thought it was mind numbing at times. Your form always looks good Good luck with the 800 meter
Hey FogDog, awesome video!! Could you please make a video on how you make yourself noticed by US college coaches and the whole process when you don't live in the US?
Here is my 1500 progression so far (ill come back to this comment to write pbs sometimes): 13 years old: 5:49. 14 years old: 5:13, 5:12, 5:09, 5:06. 15 years old: 4:57, 4:52, 4:41. 16 years old: 4:28
Yo, I have a question. I'm 15 and I've been training running for less than a year now so I'm not well experienced. In October, I ran 4.06 1500 (it was my last start in the season so I was exhausted even before the race). So the problem is that my coach's plan is very peaceful and easy. I don't feel tired after my trainings cuz it's mostly jogging and running not that fast tempos (it's much more condition than speed). Only about 3 weeks before the season we train a bit harder. Generally we hardly ever do speed and strenght. And now you probably think my coach doesn't know what she's doing and I shouldn't trust her. But she had official country records (3.58 1500 and 1.58 800) and was the best female runner in the country and she even took part in Olimpics (I don't know if once or more). She's now about 60-70 and she has really a lot of experience. And now what she says is that you shouldn't train so freeckin hard when u are a teenager. She says that you should develop yourself and give the best of yourself in your twenties cuz "if u trained too hard, you would overtrain yourself till this age" and "it's not good to kill your legs each day". She gave me a lot of examples of runners who overtrained themselves. In her opinion your legs can't last that hard training for so many years and what's more you run your best after about 3 years of hard training (when you aren't young ofc). She also says that after a certain time of training you reach your bareer that u can't beat and that's the moment to start running a longer distance. Basically, to conclude: she says she wants me not to be a good junior runner, but to be a good runner when it's the most important time (age of more than 20). And I'm really disappointed, I don't know if I should change the coach or stay, becasue everyone else (mostly young people and runners) say that I'm gonna waste myself with her and that my trainings are too weak. I'm just afraid everyone will become better than me and my talent will be wasted. What do you think about it?
She knows what she's doing just trust her. No one becomes great by doing 10 x 400m @ 1500m pace everyday it just doesn't work. You'll plateau and be unable to improve much more off hard training
I’ll say if she’s a former Olympic qualifier, I would absorb all of the information she’s saying and forget whatever others are saying. You definitely don’t need to do that much speed to improve. It still needs to be done, but it’s all about quality in volume over time.
Bro! Really nice video. I am starter track athlete. I run the 1500m in about 5:30 and I am 5'7 and 22 yrs old. Is it possible for me to get in the Olympics time even though I am not tall? I have been training a lot recently and developing well!
I run a 4:25 1500m at 15 however it is most certainly not my favourite discipline as I much prefer cross country. I am very short for my age at about 5ft 1 but my parents are 5ft 11 and 5ft 9 I was just wondering just how much of a difference does growing make and how much improvement can I expect?
It all depends on how much training you’ve been doing and how much room you have to continue growing and improving. Get plenty of speed in while you’re young and slowly build up the mileage! I’d say you’ll probably grow quite a bit more with parents that tall - hard to tell though. I grew quite a lot after the age of 15 so you could find you grow a lot more. Good luck with it all!
Unless you have a recessive gene from a far back ancestor your growth *potential* is high. However, external factors such as lack of sleep can limit this so you need yo have yo right conditions to grow to this potential
put in the mileage!!! just build up your aerobic fitness before you focus on getting into too much speed - keep some speed in there with fast strides a few times a week. get fit, then get fast, it’ll come
Do you do any lifts during base training? Also do you have serious ambitions on making it to the world stage? With that low of milage and youth, I can definitely see you reaching low 3:3x in a few years.
Yeah I was always very very low mileage until I went to college last year! Only been running bigger miles for about 15 months now so hopefully a lot more to come. I do gym all year round - it’s nothing too serious and no super heavy lifting but overall pretty good for general strength and injury prevention
I’m running a 1500 at my meet on Sunday. Any advice like while I’m running and like I wanna stop. Like what to think about or anything that you think could help.God bless!
I watched this cos i have my first 1500m race in 2 years next Sunday. This made me feel much more confident and it reassured me to know when you were my age your training was fairly similar so it gives me hope that I might actually break 5 minutes in the next few months. I'm so nervous cos my team moved up a league and i'm gonna be one of the youngest as I'm 16 competing against u17, u20, seniors and veterans! :o ok just looked at the comments and now i feel super slow :(
There are 17 days to go to Phu Dong Healthy Association with the distance of 1,500 meters. How can I run from 5 minutes 00 seconds to under 4 minutes 40 seconds. Help me😥🥺

Stay consistent, running most days. Do 2 or 3 speed sessions a week and maybe 1 long run with steady days on the rest. Rest when you need too but don’t plan them just try to go out and run. You can do it :)
