Another place I've passed on the train but never explored further. Love that town square and of course the chips!
Great video Rodger and brilliant background music also.... Nice to see Mrs E.... Penrith is one of my usual go to places and yes that chippy is one of the 👌
Thanks Richard. It’s a while since I had a really good walk round. So many cafés and pubs! 😂
Great video, I grew up in a village five miles from Penrith but went to the Grammar School in the town. Penrith is the gateway to the Lakes but we claim it as Eden Valley territory.
Thanks so much for watching. The town and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. 😍
Penrith used to be an excellent town! (Penrith actually means 'red hill ')
Now it's gone down hill fast.
Kebab shops, charity shops bookies. And in the back streets is full of graffiti, weeds, and bags of rubbish.. just left outside by the many many migrants housed here.
Only two chippies left and you went to the worst one.
Tattie Tim's baked potatoes next the tower is always excellent though!
Back there on Thursday. Will try the other chippie! 😀
Not that bad LOL bless. Have you seen the rest of the uk haha
Technically Penrith isn't in the Lake District at all, it's between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks. But this means it's not overcrowded with tourists but still has a lot to offer the visitor. Agree that it's the best place I know for independent coffee shops and the town centre supermarkets offer generous free parking which you wouldn't get in more touristy places. Great video!
Thanks for your comments Neil, much appreciated. Love all those coffee shops! 😀
I've never visited Penrith itself even though I've been through it on the train/past it in the M6 countless times. I have been to the Rheged Discovery centre nearby though a long time ago.
Thanks Alexander - haven’t been to Rheged Discovery Centre - that’s one for a future visit. 😀
My default from there is steak pie and chips. Sandgate chippy and the chippy van also run by the same people, but I still prefer going to the Angel Lane one because I have done (on an occasional basis) for decades.
I love a steak pie - do they do those steak puddings too? 😀
@@RogEdwardsTV No steak puddings. Unlike most fish & chip shops the pies are made there and not bought in. The steak pie is an open top pie (i.e. the pastry is only on the top) - there is often a second pie on the menu as well either a mince one, or a chicken and mushroom one, but the steak one is the best and most popular.
@@jameswillan6635 Thanks - will be trying one on our next Penrith visit.
Too much of Rog and not enough of Penrith
😂
