for me it's pretty useless since I always heal when there is literally nothing else that can interrupt my help. I hate it when something disrupts my healing not only does it waste my soul from the heal, it doesn't even heal me so I lost 1 mask and lost the souls that could've helped.
For the record, I found spore shroom really useful when fighting Lost kin, because it let me heal without worrying about the stupid magma balloons he keeps spawning
Yeah Spore Shroom (especially with Defenders Crest) is actually pretty useful, especially considering its only 1 slot (and buffed with Defenders Crest is still only 2). Dunno why the HK community tends to underrate it
Sprintmaster also synergizes quite well with Dashmaster and allows you to dash even more often. Quite handy for dodging some bosses with longer reaches.
Spore shrooms works in the arena really well. You're healing so much, and so quickly, with so many enemies around you, that it does serve as a bit of a breather when you damage multiple enemies at ounce.
I've always thought of the colosseum as merely a test of if you know how to kill things in different environments. The 2nd and 3rd trials completely remove your ability to use the floor. You have to mantis claw (wall jump) on the walls the entire time. You cannot heal, unless you fall onto the spikes, heal super quickly before the respawn platform disappears, and jump to a wall. but at that point you could just focus on not falling in the first place and not lose time and soul. Since the closest you get to flying is pogo'ing off of enemies and using the monarch wings (double jump), it's super fast-paced, and you're very limited. Luckily if you're good at optimizing shadow dashes and your 2 available spells (slam attack won't work... no floor), you can survive. In trial 2 when you get stuck in a very vertical, not very horizontal room against the.. spider thingy that jumps high super fast, you have to know to hit, dash to where it was when it jumped, turn around and repeat. When you fight the dashing flies on a single platform with no floor, you HAVE to pogo off of them or take serious damage. In trial 3 you have a garpede dancing session (if you didn't know or remember, you have 4 platforms stacked on top of each other with no floor at the bottom, while indestructable enemies that are big enough to fill the space between each platform move in from different directions at different times) TWICE, the second time coming from above while you have very little horizontal space and no advance of going vertical. You literally have to dodge slow, huge bullets. My very long point is that the colosseum doesn't have many enemies at a time, at most maybe 5 and they take too long for Spore shrooms charm to kill them. Its a test of knowledge and skill, not swarm handling
I actually do find Grimmchild to be pretty helpful when he's required. The Grimmkins can be difficult to hit sometimes, and the Grimmchild can hit them when you can't get to them before they teleport somewhere else.
@@electroshockgamer2733 little known fact, he attacks the fake banker girl tipping you off shes a lie, and can also actually attack nosk and other foes on the ceilings

lemme tell you one way that I've found glowing womb to be genuinely useful: staggering bosses. those extra hits don't do a ton of damage, but they still count towards stagger which can help if a boss is just blitzing you over and over then while u try to heal one of them spawns and immediately breaks the stagger
I did that with Grey Prince Zote by accident. The extra damage was great, until he got staggered and I needed to heal. Instead, my Soul gauge gets drained, and the kamikaze baby hits GPZ and he gets up and finishes clapping me.
IKR, i believe i reached mid game and the shellspore combo still works amazingly for me. It helped me with almost every boss and challenge. It also helped me with early game greenpath farming.
I use it every once in a while for bosses in enclosed spaces. I just reached Traitor Lord and though I haven't beaten it yet Spore Shroom + Quick Focus + Lifeblood Core + Fragile Strength or Life works alright Edit: I'm on my first run, if you have any charm setup suggestions please let me know! Sprintmaster is in my build constantly, it's only one slot and you don't require the energy to keep pressing RT all the time like _what is the downside_
Spore charm is one of my favorites it has so many good interactions with other charms. Really helps with more annoying bosses that like to gang bang you by spawning more enemies
Spore Charm + Defenders Crest is so nice. Plus you can actually kill those docile crystal laser beam shooting things that crawl around platforms in Crystal Peak.
Spore shroom is pretty harshly criticized in this but I found it outperformed its one notch cost. Since a shitload of bosses have a charge-at-you attack, you can heal, jump out of the way, and they continue right into the cloud. The chip damage builds up over time.
I am actually convinced Spore Shroom is why I'm not still struggling on NKG or Radiant Hornet. (I didn't realise I was doing Hornet on Radiant, and I thought I took damage for some reason so I healed and the cloud killed her.)
Hiveblood is okay in White Palace/Path of Pain, but having to sit and wait for that hp to recharge every single time you fuck up is obnoxious. The better build is Deep Focus, Grubsong, and Grubberfly's Elegy. With this combo, every hit you take gives you more than enough soul to heal that hit, so you effectively have infinite health.
I used hiveblood and grubsong, it would fill up 1 while I was trying again and if I died while it was filling I'd heal 2 slots with the built up soul, got me through path of pain with almost no waiting and allowed me to keep mark of pride and quickslash. Never used hiveblood outside white palace but it's my go to for that part of the game.
I could never have gotten through trial of the fool without hiveblood. I never use it for the most part, but it helped immensely for the like 10 minutes when there's no floor and you can't focus.
I think several charms are meant to be used more for synergies. Such as spore shroom, it’s not that good on it’s own, but if combined with certain charms you can increase it’s damage and radius. Hell, some even have visual interactions with each-other.
I just put spore shroom in whenever I have a free charm notch in a boss fight. Ya know because I don’t want to have the overpowered Wayward compass charm equipped during boss fights.
Honestly if you have a hard time with broken vessel the shroom charm is kind of helpful because of how it one-shots the infected balloons...that's pretty much all I can think of it being useful for, other than just having a cool looking visual effect
I feel like Deep Focus is really underrated. It effectively cuts the amount of soul you need to collect for healing in half. The slow heal speed makes it really bad in boss fights, but it's great for traversing long areas where there's a lot of down time between enemies.
@@VGamingJunkieVT Greed charm is obviously useful if you're farming geo for something. It just becomes useless at end game when you already bought everything.

@@TGgametactics I did Marmu, Nosk, winged Nosk, Broken Vessel, Lost kin and Oblobbles on radiant using a minion build. And I came pretty far on radiant absrad with it before swapping to nail+shamanstone. Together, they're real strong.
I spent 2 hours beating nightmare king grimm; your damn right grimmschild is going to be part of my core charms. Even if just as a badge of honor. Not gonna lie, grimmschild dealt the final blow to two bosses I've fought, so I'm happy.
It's so brutal to see someone who says fought even more time, than me against a boss. (I'm sorry, but I feel good knowing, it's not just me who dies over and over at the same boss XD)
I get it that deep focus isn’t a combat charm and take 4 notches, but I find it more useful when exploring in dangerous parkour places (such as the white palace), it just make your life so much easier
Mate, when I was fighting Winged Nosk on Radiant difficulty, it was one of those flies from glowing womb that got the kill, not me. I've gotta respect it for that
I didn't find any pale ore before hornet 2 so my nail was really bad against her. I think spore shroom and defenders crest carried me through that fight.
The Knight: **Loses Grimm Child for Carefree Melody** Also The Knight: *"This has been the worst trade deal in the history of trade deals maybe ever."*
For me carefree melody helped me way more. Then again I accidently kept grimmchild while doing path of pain. And having that little fucker hit the white flying bug your trying to go on really makes you hate the little shit.
Weaver song is useful if you need to focus on dodging or attacking small enemies bosses summon, it was a huge help for me in the second fight with hornet. Also the little spiders sit when you're resting at a bench and it's really cute.
Appears like it. Dont mind me, im just clinging in the corner watching failed champion dying without me doing anything other than taping my ZL button down
The only problem is that there's an even more effective cheese using charms that will actually benefit you during other bosses. This charm is know as Shaman Stone
In defence of all these charms: Deep Focus: Can be useful in places like deepnest where Soul is limited, spikes are plentiful, and you have lots of time to heal. Just don’t try to use this is a boss fight. Also a key component to the infinite healing combo Sprintmaster: I guess you could use it if you need to get from place to place quicker, but we all know that it’s only ever used with Weaversong, with which it is actually pretty good. Spore Shroom: I actually used this quite a lot in the early game when I was gonna do a boss fight and needed a one slot charm to replace my Wayward Compass. Honestly this charm is underrated, way better than Thorns of Agony. Also it can be good agains Broken Vessel if you haven’t beaten dung defender yet. Hiveblood: very useful in platforming segments, assuming you don’t have Grubberfly’s Elegy to make the infinite healing combo. I guess you could also use it to fight that one Grimmkin in the hive without getting pestered by bees? Weaversong: this charm is actually kinda good with Grubsong and Sprintmaster. Can be useful for the Flower quest, where you don’t want to get near enemies, and for cheesing Failed Champion and Lost Kin. Grimmchild: you need this charm to fight Grimm and NKG, so it’s automatically useful. Other than that, it can be surprisingly useful for targets that are hard to hit with your nail. You have to use it for the Grimmkin, but I have to admit it got in twice as many hits in as I did. Can be useful for the Flower Quest, where you don’t want to get near enemies, and Cheesing the Lost Kin and Failed Champion Kingsoul: Necessary for the true ending. I guess you could also use it with Glowing Womb to get infinite suicide bugs, but that doesn’t seem like a good use of 7 charm slots. Other than that. You could also equip it before a boss fight, get your soul to full and then change it for a different charm before the boss, but that would take a very long time. Carefree Melody: I think you can actually get hit a bunch intentionally before a Radiant fight so you can take 2 hits. That seems pretty useful but time consuming to me Glowing Womb: Is good for Cheesing the Failed Champion and lost kin. Can also be useful for the Flower quest, where you don’t want to get near enemies. Heavy Blow: if you struggle with the Massive Moss Charger (???) then you can use this for basically a free win (if it wasn’t already free). On top of that, you need it for Salaubra’s blessing, so it’s useful for that. Aside from that I got nothing, why does this charm exist
@@sandsalamand3763 most bosses have a stagger limit, and if you stagger them too quickly you will probably be at full health white they are staggered, wasting a stagger
Sprintmaster combined with the shape of Unn makes you slug so much faster it's insane how many heals you can pull out while dodging everything. You are almost twice as fast as your normal running speed.
I don't see why it's bad. He said it's bad against ranged enemies then showed a clip of the lil flying bag of shit that shoots three bullets. I haven't finished the game yet but it's gotta be one of the most annoying ranged enemies. For some reason the projectiles are always at the same height I jump. That enemy is the most lethal at close range, there's no room to dodge the bullets. Heavy blow pushes that fucker back and gives you breathing room, you can time it so he shoots when he's further away. I've noticed it's almost like crowd control, you can position enemies according to threat level. If I'm fighting two enemies I'll bounce one out of the way so I can focus the other one. What's more is you can spirit dash through an attacking enemy, push him from the back then dash forward again. That's effectively parrying, counterattacking and creating distance for your next move. I think the colosseum shows how effective it can be. Being able to position enemies means you can adapt to the environment. That charm has my vote for most underrated.
Maybe if you can't shadow dash through them. I used heavy blow for a while on pure vessel because I wanted to stagger him faster. Thing is heavy blow is a static reduction of minus one hit, but you have to provide those hits still. You can take something like sharp shadow, or quick slash and get in multiple hits over the course of the battle. It's just more efficient at that point because you're doing more damage to the boss while providing more hits to stagger him.
@@Richerin only for people who get annoyed easily (I dunno how some people get annoyed really easily but its really doesn't make sense how most people get annoyed about little things)

Flukemarm is too easy! The only thing that could literally kill you in that fight are those annoying flying piranhas! And if you happen to have the nail upgrades those things get killed in one swoop!
@@justice7659 yeah just ignore tossing into every single shit and then waiting to get up just to do that again, i really only use crystal heart for necessary progression and for dashing you can use sprint+dashmaster for a +12% speed for sprint master and then move like a bullet, so why not get sprint master AND dashmaster

When you’re using dashmaster, you stop for .01 seconds, and what? Adding sprintmaster makes you move .1 inch farther? Screw that, nailmaster’s glory or grubsong would be way more useful.
Sporeshroom and defender's crest are actually very useful because it works in Coleseum. It makes you kill enemies in one less hit and it's constantly up because you always have time for focusing
deep focus is actually really useful in difficult platforming sections like the pale kings palace especially when combined with grub song you just have to think of it as more of a utility charm then something for combat
probably the best charms for the white palace/PoP are: Grubsong Deep focus Grubberfly's Elegy GE becouse if you combine it with GS it gives you 25 soul, making it consistent while getting hit so when you get hit twice the deep focus can heal everything
Deep Focus is crap, sure it doubles the heal, but at twice the time, so you still have the same health per second as before. Add quick focus and sure that health per second doubles but it's the same as if you just did quick focus without deep focus. It's 4 charm notches for literally no effect on your healing per second...
@@sir_slimestone3797 It's more soul efficient though, it's nice to have if you have the time for the long focus (Which makes it fairly useful for exploring and not bosses)
Mhm. Deep Focus is a good charm because it allows you to heal much more efficiently, and promotes out-of-combat healing. Healing in Hollow Knight, at least in combat, is dangerous and inefficient (especially compared to casting a spell), so saving resources between combat-heavy rooms and bosses is a sound investment.
"You really wanna go down in Hollow Knight history as a gimmick?" Said the youtuber making a top 10 list with an air of self-aware contempt for the idea.
Abyss Watcher I can see why some people hate it. I’ve use it and I’m not a big fan of it. It’s doesn’t do a lot of damage and it takes SO LONG for it to shoot another ball of fire. Plus whenever I’m in the mantis area or the white place with this charm it just makes my life 100% percent harder
Yknow, this vid is a bit old, but, I really wanna defend hiveblood because I feel like it's being tossed aside way too happily. Hiveblood...I personally think is one of the BEST charms in the game. The main reason why, and this is big, you don't have to make yourself a massive target to get health back. See, getting health back is always a very dangerous activity in hollowknight. When you start healing, one of three things might happen. One, the heal goes off without a hitch and you're now up a mask. Two, you get hit in the process, meaning you now even have less health. Three, you heal, but take damage right after the process, which means all you did was waste soul and time, plus if it's a two damage attack you're walking away with less health AND soul. Hiveblood rewards skillful play, because if you get hit, if you can just avoid getting damaged again for a little bit, you'll get that health back for free. You don't have to find a spot to squat at for several seconds, which costs soul and several seconds in which you cannot move otherwise you don't get the heal off. Sure, there's a charm that allows you to move whilst healing, but by itself you move so slowly and you can't use it when airborn. Plus, hiveblood is a completely passive effect! It allows you to make several smaller mistakes along fights and not get punished by them at the end when you have no more health or die when desperately trying to heal. It's one of the best charms to use in boss fights because of how hyper aggressive some bosses are and it's great for the coliseum of fools because the last challenge has a pretty lengthy part in which you can't touch the floor. Is hiveblood the best charm? Probably not, but, saying it's one of the worse is heavily underselling how useful it can be.
You can just equip joni's blessing. It will give you about the same amount of masks hiveblood will regenerate. Not taking damage for 6 seconds is too long, man. Even in white Palace it's frikkin annoyingly long
@@Polyglot_English Well of course it feels long when you're purposely waiting for it to kick in. As for your other point, you can no longer heal at all when using the blessing and unless you're taking two mask damage, the HB can undo any and all damage you take so long as you can just avoid another hit for six seconds. If you're taking damage back to back that quickly, then yeah HB seems bad... But if you aren't greedy, it can really pay off.
Yes but still it's only ONE hit less. And also only EIGHT bosses out of 47 can be staggered. And even then, you are just better of equip any other damage increasing charm and just do one more hit on the boss while also don't throwing them fifty foots away from u.
I was actually surprised Hiveblood and Sprintmaster were on this list.I understand where you're coming from with your ratings but I found the sprintmaster useful since there are times when i seem a bit too slow (which was quite often for me) and Hiveblood charm doesn't use any soul, so if you can wait out the time it takes it is still useful in my opinion (although a buff for it is necessary). You still made good points with them, like with the Hiveblood costing 4 slots but the Sprintmaster is more of a subjective thing, depending on play style, but either way you do you
Hiveblood is also veeeery very useful when you don't have any time to heal or just generally can't waste so much soul for healing. It's the only thing that makes colosseum bearable for me, and it's the only reason i was actually able to kill Grimm, and it also made revisiting spider cave and spiked sections so much better... so i insist it's highly underrated.
He talking about shitting on enemies but doesn't realize Defender's Crest actually turns the spores into a giant fart, which gets even bigger with Deep Focus.
@@jongoiburu1549 especially while learning a fight. Also it doesnt break bosses rest when they damaged, so it's like getting a free hit or two while your healing. Also good in complicated platform situations like the first two Colosseum fights.
glowing womb can be useful for players who just simply don’t use spells often, because for the soul cost of one spell it outputs 74 damage, which is almost equal to a dive, almost twice as good as shade soul with shaman stone, and just as good as an abyss shriek which misses twice, i don’t use it but i see the uses of it
Grimmchild is a requirement to make the fight(s) harder. You have 2 charm slots less to use for your regular fights. You are forced to do something different.

@@bruh6237 No need to every charm has its use. Infact let me show you the use of each of these charms that were listed. Deepfocus: Great for exploring and as long as you dont fight a fast boss you should be able to find time to heal. And even when you use 7 notches with quickfocus together you become a god of self healing. Thats enough to bruteforce your way through many fights and challenges Sprintmaster: It allows you to travel faster and close the gaps between you and the enemy. Combo it with weaver song and you have rather good companions for midgame. Together with dashmaster you become a speeddemon. Its just one notch but it can go long ways. Spore Shroom: A solid Early game charm and good for more healing oriented builds. The AOE surely wont keep up with a assault of Nailstrikes but lets be honest in your first playthrough you have no clue how half the enemys function so its unlikly that you can slash your way through everything without trouble. It makes new encounters less punishing for just one notch. Hive Blood: Great for exploring and people that want to use soul for offensiv spells. As long as you good a dodging this charm gets the job done of keeping you healthy Weaver Song: As I mentioned they are solid companions for the midgame and while you have trouble figuring out how enemys work these spiders do the work for you. No one is born a master. Nuff said Grimmchild: A Powerfull charm for the Midgame. Blocking damage is actually Amazing beyond Amazing. Its incredibly strong for late game content when you go up against White Defender or Zote when they start doing more then 2 Mask of damage. Infact it can block damage from Radiant Bosses. You know a boss you are supose to beat with No Hit? "I struggle to imagine someone out there actually picked this up, read its effect, tried it out, and was so impressed with it that they actually decided to use it more than once." I may or may not have used spore shroom for literally the entire game because I take so much damage that I almost always have the focus button held down. It actually came in handy a good amount, either killing enemies I was close to taking out but stopped to heal, taking care of those dumb orange bubbles in the Lost Kin fight, or just getting in a bit of chip damage that made an enemy that would have taken 2 nail hits instead take one. It was reliable, I suppose, and I never really wanted to take it off. Made me feel a little better about stopping to heal every 5 seconds because I was also dealing a bit of damage while healing.

Spore Shroom is so useful fighting the Ascended variation in PoH, it keeps me from getting overwhelmed by his minions. Shape of Unn, Quick Focus, fully upgraded Grimmchild, Spore Shroom, Weaversong, and Grubsong is perfect for him lmao. I absolutely loved hiveblood in my build tbh. I mean, in a long fight, either boss battle you haven't upgraded your nail to the level of yet, the colleseum, or godhome, it basically means that as long as you don't take hits consecutively, you never take damage. Which is still a challenge, but think about it. As long as you don't get hit immediantly after, the hit basically never happened in the first place
I had given up trying the third colosseum because I couldn't make it through the take with no ground, so when I got that charm I imediately went back to try that again I forgot to equip it but I was so confident I got it first try
@@jeeeeeeeeeeezus Yeah, been 11 months since I made this comment and kinda realized that myself, haha. I think I was valid to like it for a certain period of my playthrough because it kept me alive during exploration, but I definitely built up its boss potential in my head
@@wx7fm I also loved Hiveblood. It came handy while exploring the world, you almost never had to stop to heal. I found it useful in the colosseum too, because the short breaks between enemy spawns rarely allowed you to heal properly. Its only shortcoming is when you start clashing harder bosses that 2 or more damage, then I started using other charms that would allow me to kill the boss faster instead. In godhome it's usually also not that useful since you have lot of time to heal between battles. Overall I would say Hiveblood is S tier charm if you are a casual player, but loses its potential as you improve and start taking harder challenges.
i feel remembered that it constantly saved my butt from exploding bats, the colosseum, bosses especially with extra spawning. I think that you have to equip the grimmchild for grimm and nkg is an extra challenge. I actually used it all the time until the end and even defeated rad with it. *shrug*
Yeah, Grimmchild is incredible vs boss fights. He's at his best when sniping balloons vs Lost Kin, to the point where even tier 2 child can trivialize the fight pretty heavily.
Actually, you can use Hiveblood to pretty much cancel out all damage and make double damage bosses only do one hit. And, before you think that healing is a better alternative, I wonder if there’s another use for souls that can help you kill the boss faster?
@@doctoregggExactly, and it seems like people just ignore that normal focus requires you to wait for a healing opportunity (which most late game bosses don’t give often) to use safely. Hiveblood let’s you regen without that hassle.
Funny enough, I genuinely love the baby build. I've beaten so many bosses in my newest playthrough with Grimmchild and Weaverlings. The Weaverlings even glitched Hornet 2 so she died upside down and nearly softlocked me.
One thing for spore shroom: I think it’s good in certain situations as in lost kin you can easily heal without dealing without those goddamn orange ghosts

Exactly. Those ghost were so annoying. That charm helped me so much its pretty handy. I used it most of the time, it's not the worst honestly. This guy is on Crack.
One of my most favorite loadouts to use to just mess around (especially in the Colosseum) is Defender's Crest, Spore Shroom, Shape of Unn, Grubsong, Quick Focus, and Thorns of Agony. It's a really fun build that is based around taking hits and healing, and your enemies just kinda happen to die in the process.
As someone who fails at being good with combat, spore shroom paired with Defender's crest is nice to use against enemies with high health that are only vulnerable for a split second before attacking, like the giant guards in City of Tears and the things in the Deep Nest. Also, it's nice to have damage dealt while you heal
Spore shroom really is useful, it pretty much stops an enemy in its tracks when it touches the cloud, thus giving you a chance to evade after having just healed.
@@unmaistired yes, but Defender's crest stacks with spore shroom from greater damage anyway. Spore shroom is free damage after you heal for only one notch.
@@itsnottimetostop4462You are right, but if you don't have enough notches for both (for whatever reason) I personally think Defender's Crest is preferable.
6:20 It's just the stupid fun that people need sometimes, It's mediocre when you're serious, but is so hilariously fun when combined with Grimmchild, Grubsong, Defender's Crest, Glowing Womb, Shape Of Unn, and Spore Shroom. It's a very casual build and very stupid, but I try some bosses in the hall of gods, and it turns out fun! as long as your mindset isn't serious. So just try to be an idiot, don't take it too seriously, and go nuts on bosses in the hall of gods. That is a 3 braincelled degenerate's guide to weaversong
Then there is me who has used passive builds on early radiant bosses like brooding mawlek. Also, if you pair weaversong with grubsong, you can gain soul on enemies that would otherwise not give it to you, like False Knight, Failed Champion and the Collector. Overall, it's good fun and has niche usage
Deep focus is useful when exploring, you consume the same amount of souls for double amount of life. Very easy to keep your life blood at full. Just don't use it for boss battles.
I do disagree with some of these placements but only in the context of a randomizer especially now with random notch costs making deep focus + quick focus far more viable in some instances
Look, he said he liked that charm. The only reason he put on the list bc you can't use 2 valuable notches for battling grimm and nightmare king or use the cute ass grimm.jr for the battles eitheir
2:27 I'd actually like to argue the use of this charm. Sure in combat this thing is pretty damn useless but for just general exploration and getting around you might as well use it. When I was exploring I would use the dash master, sprint master, the charm that has geo picked up and brought to you, and a few others just to make getting around faster. When I encountered a boss if I died to it and got sent back to the nearest bench I would then swap off it for charms useful for fighting. Any spare charm notches were used for quality of life stuff.
sprintmaster has a use that I don't know if anyone mentioned yet... running away to save shade dash. I thought sharp shadow would buff recharge rate too but nope :/
Yeah, I kept dying to Zote in PotS with Grimmchild equipped, but I unequipped him and equipped Quick Focus and now I keep dying to Uumuu (fricking Oomas...)
That and it helped me beat Hornet's second round! Since she normally doesn't move if she gets hit, I've gotten three strikes on her at one sitting from this charm.
I used to think it did more damage so I used it all the time but then I read it again and I was like wait what...thats all it does?? Then never put it on again
The Beater That’s true, but in earlier things before Path of Pain, the Crystalized Mound gave me some trouble and I didn’t have hiveblood. Deep focus would’ve definitely came in handy.
Yeah, before I got hiveblood my platforming layout was deepfocus and grubsong, so the 2 hits you take will regenerate some of the soul you use for deep focus
bro your mistaken so hard. deep focus is so good, and i probably would have died so many times while exploring without it. it basically doubles your soul efficiency while healing, you get double the heals for the same amount of soul, and since i got hit/fell into spikes so many times, it literally gave me all the health i lost for much less soul. for new players its a must have, except please remove it for any boss fight.
Yeah it good for exploration but the endgame of Hollow Knight is just bosses, and you’re probably not going to be able to get heals off against them if you’re using deep focus. When a boss gets staggered you’re normally able to heal twice, 2 soul uses for 2 health, and then during the fight you’ll be able to occasionally sneak an extra heal in. If you’re using deep focus you’ll be able to get one heal per stagger, 1 soul for 2 health, but you’re completely removing the ability to heal midcombat, unless you’re using quick focus, and if you’re doing that you’re dedicating SEVEN charm slots to the ability to heal 2 hp at once. It’s not terrible but you’re literally taking away your ability to use more than one decent offensive charm.
grubsong does effectively the same thing but can also be used for spells and in combat, all for 1 notch too, it gives 15 soul so you basically are paying half price to heal back up.
Also, Grubsong+Weaversong *is* a decent way to get a reliable source of soul, especially if you add Sprintmaster to make the grubs move faster. 4 notches for constant damage and Soul is kinda useful. Not the best in every case, but useful.
I used that combo in colosseum of the fool, having a steady stream of soul for healing spamming shade soul was pretty useful. I also used another charm from this video, grimmchild bcs it was good at taking out mini soul masters and also at that one part where the floor turns to spike since you are too busy clinging for your life to deal with the bugs.
Hiveblood can be useful depending on your fighting style. If you are quite good at dodging but bad at finding the position and moment to heal safely, hiveblood is helpful to forget about healing, focus on the fight and have all your soul for spells. After trying many builds, hiveblood was part of my build when I defeated some bosses for the first time, like Traitor Lord, God Tamer or even NKG. It just suits my fighting style. I understand it doesn't suit others, though. The same way having a longer nail doesn't have a big positive impact for me so I rather keep my notches for other charms, whereas I know people who are glad to spend 5 notches on a larger nail, as the advantage suits their fighting style. To each their own I guess?
I've heard a longer nail is pretty helpful with the pogo. I struggle with pogo, especially if I have to move forward while doing it & I've noticed it does help a bit. I imagine if you're pretty good with moving while having to also repeatedly pogo then it's probably even more useful. But I definitely noticed a difference when I didn't use anything to increase the length of the nail.
For a build focused less on fighting big enemies and more on traversal, hiveblood can be really good. I usually pair it with compass, gathering swarm, Mark of Pride, and grimmchild.
goddamn why are people still watching this lmao

For the record, I found spore shroom really useful when fighting Lost kin, because it let me heal without worrying about the stupid magma balloons he keeps spawning
I used dream shield+defenders crest+spore shroom
I used it with the hive knights and the shell thing when you heal just sit in a corner and continuously heal and you kill them easy 😂
I didn’t use it and yeah that would probably make sense, my build was sharp shadow, shamanstone, nailmasters glory, spell twister, thorns of agony.

Spore shrooms is super useful, especially in the Colosseum.

He claimed that using it only once sealed his opinion.... Well that takes away it's credibility
Spore shroom and defender crest are perfect for bosses like lost kin, collector, Grey Prince Zote, etc. idk what he was on
Yeah Spore Shroom (especially with Defenders Crest) is actually pretty useful, especially considering its only 1 slot (and buffed with Defenders Crest is still only 2). Dunno why the HK community tends to underrate it
Sprintmaster is great for severely impatient people like myself.
Combine with dash master and sharp shadow and you have severely impatient people like yourself on coffee...
@@Jude_5555 That was my setup for much of my first run of the game.

Spore shrooms works in the arena really well. You're healing so much, and so quickly, with so many enemies around you, that it does serve as a bit of a breather when you damage multiple enemies at ounce.
ooh nice point
@André Corrêa Ishida tools lmao
@@EaterOfGeeseyou don't have to pog just double jump

lemme tell you one way that I've found glowing womb to be genuinely useful:
staggering bosses. those extra hits don't do a ton of damage, but they still count towards stagger which can help if a boss is just blitzing you over and over
then while u try to heal one of them spawns and immediately breaks the stagger
I did that with Grey Prince Zote by accident. The extra damage was great, until he got staggered and I needed to heal. Instead, my Soul gauge gets drained, and the kamikaze baby hits GPZ and he gets up and finishes clapping me.

I use it every once in a while for bosses in enclosed spaces. I just reached Traitor Lord and though I haven't beaten it yet Spore Shroom + Quick Focus + Lifeblood Core + Fragile Strength or Life works alright

Spore shroom is pretty harshly criticized in this but I found it outperformed its one notch cost. Since a shitload of bosses have a charge-at-you attack, you can heal, jump out of the way, and they continue right into the cloud. The chip damage builds up over time.
Spore shroom is the best ofensive charm IF you combo with Quick focos and the one that creat a shield
I am actually convinced Spore Shroom is why I'm not still struggling on NKG or Radiant Hornet.
(I didn't realise I was doing Hornet on Radiant, and I thought I took damage for some reason so I healed and the cloud killed her.)
Sporeshroom is my 1-spare-notch-go-to charm. I would much rather give a use to every single notch rather than taking it out.
I hate how everyone that doesnt like this kind of charms dont consider how much notches they cost
Spore Shroom cheeses THE HELL out of Broken Vessel.
"Hiveblood is kind of useless"
*Laugh in Pain of Path
Chuckles is almost infinite soul
*laughs in the mod: the pain of the path*
Shape of unn is a good example of this,
When you have spore shrooms or baldur shell, the shell changes to look like the other charm.
I killed the final Mantis Lord with a spore cloud after dying and it still counted

I just put spore shroom in whenever I have a free charm notch in a boss fight. Ya know because I don’t want to have the overpowered Wayward compass charm equipped during boss fights.
Wayward conpass one shots all the bosses in the game so good call
Honestly if you have a hard time with broken vessel the shroom charm is kind of helpful because of how it one-shots the infected balloons...that's pretty much all I can think of it being useful for, other than just having a cool looking visual effect
did you know, wayward compass actually reduces damage taken by 50% whenever you don't get hit
Obviously, wayward compadd is too overpowered
Wayward compass is just too good
I feel like Deep Focus is really underrated. It effectively cuts the amount of soul you need to collect for healing in half. The slow heal speed makes it really bad in boss fights, but it's great for traversing long areas where there's a lot of down time between enemies.
exactly, I used deep focus along with grubsong to get the second part of kingheart, probably wouldn’t of made it without it

I can't see why
I agree with you thunder
I have a burning passion of hate for minions. I don’t blame him if he does
In defence of all these charms:
Deep Focus: Can be useful in places like deepnest where Soul is limited, spikes are plentiful, and you have lots of time to heal. Just don’t try to use this is a boss fight. Also a key component to the infinite healing combo
Sprintmaster: I guess you could use it if you need to get from place to place quicker, but we all know that it’s only ever used with Weaversong, with which it is actually pretty good.
Can be useful for the Flower Quest, where you don’t want to get near enemies, and Cheesing the Lost Kin and Failed Champion
Kingsoul: Necessary for the true ending.
That seems pretty useful but time consuming to me
Glowing Womb: Is good for Cheesing the Failed Champion and lost kin.
Heavy blow helps you stagger bosses more quickly, so it's good against bosses where the only time you can heal is when they're staggered.
@@sandsalamand3763 most bosses have a stagger limit, and if you stagger them too quickly you will probably be at full health white they are staggered, wasting a stagger

Just use quick focus, you also get 1 more charm slot.
@@llamaking458 I don't think you actually read his comment, did you?

Infact let me show you the use of each of these charms that were listed.
Deepfocus: Great for exploring and as long as you dont fight a fast boss you should be able to find time to heal. And even when you use 7 notches with quickfocus together you become a god of self healing. Thats enough to bruteforce your way through many fights and challenges
Sprintmaster: It allows you to travel faster and close the gaps between you and the enemy.
As long as you good a dodging this charm gets the job done of keeping you healthy
Weaver Song: As I mentioned they are solid companions for the midgame and while you have trouble figuring out how enemys work these spiders do the work for you. No one is born a master. Nuff said
Grimmchild: A Powerfull charm for the Midgame. When you access the Grimm Troupe as early as possibel you have a follower that pretty much does just as much damage as you do. Until you have the pure nail and knowledge on how enemys work this charm will stay Solid.
Kingsoul: Beyond good for exploring... if only you hadnt explored everything at that point. Even then its free soul for spells and healing.
Carefree Melody: As inconsistent as it is it truly is a gamble but lets be honest all you need is sometimes the fortune of lady luck. Beeing allowed to take a hit in such a battle is bloody broken and something thats worth 7 charmslots on its own.
Glowing Womb: Great for players that want to deal passiv damage but are bad at using spells and dont want to bother with healing. Basicly the players that will also use hiveblood.
Heavy Blows: Great for midgame for those that are fans of Nailarts. It bashes enemys far enough back to charge the next slash.
weaverlings + grubsong are useful to collect extra soul in fights while also dealing a slight bit of damage, I'm pretty sure it helped me to do radiant grimm and nkg

Oh yeah the cactus build! That’s a pretty good build for just kinda messing around.
I use the strength charm. Quick slash. Mark of pride and long nail or two one slot charms. Yours is very good and I've used it before.

Carefree melody is actually used by some of the worlds best players to beat Any Radiance which was designed to unbeatable.
Deep focus is good for platforming though...
Hiveblood is better for this purpose
Why not use both? Oh yeah... 8 slots. Nevermind.
The Beater
That’s true, but in earlier things before Path of Pain, the Crystalized Mound gave me some trouble and I didn’t have hiveblood. Deep focus would’ve definitely came in handy.
Yeah, before I got hiveblood my platforming layout was deepfocus and grubsong, so the 2 hits you take will regenerate some of the soul you use for deep focus
Deep Focus + Quick Focus = double heal at normal speed
bro your mistaken so hard. deep focus is so good, and i probably would have died so many times while exploring without it. it basically doubles your soul efficiency while healing, you get double the heals for the same amount of soul, and since i got hit/fell into spikes so many times, it literally gave me all the health i lost for much less soul. for new players its a must have, except please remove it for any boss fight.
Yeah, it really seems like the kind of charm meant for slower parts of the game
Seems legit
My boss build was literally abusing combo of deep focus, quick focus, and shape of unn to go extremely fast while healing
grubsong does effectively the same thing but can also be used for spells and in combat, all for 1 notch too, it gives 15 soul so you basically are paying half price to heal back up.
Also, Grubsong+Weaversong *is* a decent way to get a reliable source of soul, especially if you add Sprintmaster to make the grubs move faster. 4 notches for constant damage and Soul is kinda useful. Not the best in every case, but useful.
I love Grubsong + Weaversong and I will sometimes center builds around Weaver mental support
Add in glowing womb and defender’s crest and you’ve got the recipe for some pretty impressive fireworks.
Problem is, it only heals the most recent mask taken
@@katiehazeltine5312 yeah, but when you're focused on traversal and exploration, even having that one extra mask of healing can be nice
That is almost my build except for gathering swarm and mark of pride
But mark of pride is good… am I missing something?
Yes!
"who wants to be that Guy?"
me, a coward
7:48 "I fail to see any use in them outside of just looking cute."
Well they *are*, aren't they?
