I am a black person. I was not born in Africa , but you make me feel my roots because of what comes from your heart and soul. You are my African Queen, sent to me from far away as a reminder of where I belong as a black person. I feel you. The World feels you , no matter the race creed or color. God blessings upon you and The Voice Platform that brings you to the world. I believe you are uniting the world by touching souls around the world and in your quest is breaking down barriers not just in music , but in the general think and stereotypes . SING US UNITED SIKI JO-AN . We love you where ever we are. ST. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands.
This is powerful. Older African Americans tell me that Miriam Makeba United black people around the world through her music. Judging by your response, Siki-Jo-An seems to be living up to that legacy.
We need this so much more of this thoughout the world - electrifying unity, love, peace. and oh by the way - PLEASE go swimming for me in your beautiful water! I have only ever seen pictures of St. Thomas. I am on east coast of US .. Maryland for a long time and now South Carolina - icky NOT clear - green water ... an ocean nontheless... but not clear and blue.
The entire performance made me wanna dance. You can hear the entire band was having a ball backing her. The backing vocalists had a jol, you can hear from their singing.
Mannnn. When the original song came out you couldn't tell me i wasn't an African. Im African American and when shaka zulu came on my dad would turn it up full volume and we would dance around the house chanting this song. 😂 You this along with roots and glory amongst other black history movies move me . Till this day this song gives me strength like no other. Long live Shaka Zulu. She reminds me of Miriam Makeba and how she unified black people across the diaspora. ❤
She is an absolute goddess! I rarely if ever get to hear any popular music from Africa. I hope Siki gets to have an international tour, because I really want to see her sing live.
This woman's voice is so strong that I feel my room is too small and if she were to sing in it my roof would be torn into shreds.😂😂 She might just win this whole thing. 😁
❤️❤️❤️ 🇹🇹 In Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 we watched the Shaka Zulu television series in the 1980s. I recently shared the original Margaret Singana version of this song with my daughter but I am so proud of this modern performance by Siki Jo-An that I want to share it with her as well. Wow. I got literal goosebumps watching this.
I love that it was a Xhosa song that became an anthem to the greatest Zulu story ever told. Mam'uMargaret Mcingana (Singana) must be rejoicing to know that their sounds have found new life through you!! Wow!
This song “We are Growing” was the theme song to the BBC Mini Series “Shaka Zulu” which was first aired over several episodes in 1986. Shaka Zulu was the great warrior king of the Zulu people of southern Africa. Although the song was for a film about the rise and fall of the Zulu kingdom, most of the lyrics were sung in Xhosa, another southern African language which is closely related to Zulu. My mother’s people were Zulus that fled King Shaka’s purge during the scattering (Mfecane) and fled north into modern day Zimbabwe where they became Shona people. People fled as far as modern day Tanzania. So we have people of Zulu origin all across Southern Africa... in almost every country in Southern Africa. Such a beautiful song though. Those who are saying she’s shouting.... in Zulu culture, a praise singer has to project their voice when saluting the king (Bayete!)
I am very happy to see all South Africa, all race and colour, in Harmony , doing things together, God Almight keep you and your country together, for ever in peace.
She got robbed! Her voice dominated the entire contest. I'm proud of her she stuck to her roots. She is also multi-talented singing in different languages. To come in third place was a disgrace. She is a superstar and will keep rising!
indeed she is the African queen I just wanna say this out of pure honesty she sings better then those judges on that show and most of the celebrities in SA lira look at her eyes she knows that too
This is one of the most beautiful things about being African. I love South African Music. This performance is outstanding, Millionaire performance Chaiii. I can watch this a thousand times over and it won't get old. BAYETE!!!!!!
2 years after discovering this amazing display of power and beauty, I've come searching to see if she released this as a single; for surely the original film studios would do the right thing and allow it, alas, to my bitter sorrow it has not come to pass. Well, replay
Through all the years I've enjoyed THE VOICE and its contestants, none have left a lasting impression on me like Ms Siki Jo An & this performance. This song in particular, originally sung by Margaret Singana, has been a childhood favourite of mine since a little girl. Siki Jo-An is by far, my #1 FAVOURITE "The Voice" artist, of all time! 🙌🏾🏆🔥🔥🔥
This is by far one of the best performances I’ve ever seen on any singing competition and is now personally one of my favourites 😍 Thank you Siki Jo Ann for showing the world how amazing you are and for representing your country!! I’ve only just discovered her a few hours ago and by accident 😂 no regrets! 😭🤩 Much love from a Tongan girl in Sydney, Australia 💖
I've looked for her other performances after seeing her blind audition interpretation of Miriam Makeba's song in a medley along with blind auditions from the voice UK, US and NL. So proud of you sister, you're just amazing.
I have listened to this so many times I have lost count. When I heard her sing this something within me was moved my eyes filled with tears. Such a powerful song and voice!!!
Africans scattered around the world always connect spiritually to the music their ancestors listened to. I grew up on the continent but get the same reaction when I hear that drum beat or our original languages used in music. Amazing song.
