Hi, thanks very much for this video. I have a question. In the flowchart you mentioned here and in the other video, the step where you first document a change actually says 'Document/Create change request'. So how come option A is not correct in the first question? It's quite confusing.
Hi, documentation of a CR is done in a 'change log'. However, creation is a separate activity where a 1-pager needs to be created to be submitted to the CCB for evaluation.
I feel all the questions except for the 2nd were pretty straight forward. I would think you would need to note the loss of resources 1st before moving on to anything else. I like the pro tip: only select options that help you solve the problem at hand.

Hello Mr Ray.. Firstly thanks a lot for this video. Very nice explanation 😀 I would like to add one more reason for the answer of Q4. Q4 mentions the project is in the planning stage. So PICC can't come into the picture, since PICC is done in the execution stage. I hope my understanding is correct.

Hi Tahir I gave my exam on 19th and I passed . Go through Ray's videos and understand the concepts well , remember the ITTOS at high level .I am sure you will pass . Just one tip from my side remember any change has to go through only only agreed change management plan or procedure as explained by ray .. all best..
Unfortunately i did not pass. Initiating-above target Planning-target Executing-needs improvement Monitor and closing-target Closing-needs improvement. I could pass 100% this exam. When i enter the exam room i forgot to ask earplug from examiner . And in the room there 6 -7 people .some of them gave another exam, they wrote in keyboard very noisly and it started disturb me. I expected the examiner came and gave a warning (because there cameras) and i expect those people have a sense of respect and stop writing like that , but it was not like that , in the middle of the exam i lost my concentration, i lost approximately 10-15 questions. I immediately called examiner and asked her earplug , she gave me that . Because of time loosing and stress i failed . I knew i prepared well to this exam, because i sacrifise many sleepness day for that
Sorry to hear about your situation. Very bad luck. No worries. Try again in the new year with the new format. If PMP is important you you, you should get it done!
I love all of your videos. These are so informative. I can assert this is one of the best channels for pmp prep. Thanks a lot for your hardwork to make such videos
Thanks Ray! Question, in the “change management | perform integrated change control 2020...” video, the answer to question 1 was “create a formal change request.” In that video you had said that this was referring to the 2nd step of documenting a formal change change request (ie in the change log). But in question 1 of this video you are saying that “create a change request” is referring to the step where we actually issue the request to the CCB. The only difference in these answer choices is the word “formal.” Could you please explain? Also, if documenting the change request requires updating the change log, wouldn’t this step be done at the beginning (when documenting the request) and also at the end (when updating change log with the outcome from the CCB)?
Hi Sana, I would advice you NOT to view any answer choice in isolation, but to evaluate them always w.r.t. all the 4 answer choices. That's very critical and you should always do that consciously....also, while evaluating options, do use your common sense as well :) Don't blindly select any answer choice based on wording... For the question you mentioned, the answer choice selected was the 'best fit answer among the 4 options;....even if the wording was not correct.... And yes, change log is updated both during 'documenting' and after 'creating'...it is also updated after a decision is received from the CCB...

Hi Ray. Loving your test prep material. I'm a bit confused. In your ICC video (ruclips.net/video/Dawt8dRlutI/видео.html @3:47) you have " ...>>What The Change Is (Define) > Document & Create A Formal Change Request". In this video (@6:27), Point 1 defines what documenting/creating mean. This leads me to think that the ICC diagram should look something like this: Request > Define > *DOCUMENT IN CHANGE LOG* > Link To Scope > Evaluate Impact > ICC Loop > *CREATE/WRITE CR* > Take to CCB/Sponsor (Approver) > Decision > Update Change Log. Would you provide clarity? Thanks!
Hi Todd. That's absolutely correct. There is a difference between documenting a CR and writing/submitting a CR...you have captured the essence correctly!
@@PMPwithRay thanks Ray for your great effort. I was also a little bit confused at the beginning but saw that Mr. Todd beatifully clarified the issue. Referring to his point, in your well-prepared CMP Flowchart 3. step "Document&Create A Formal Change Request" seems to be a little misleading as it is easily confused with Create&Write CR which should be indeed a separate step after ICC Loop as Mr. Todd indicated. This should be consistent with PMP Learning Point 1 you provided in the video (Documenting Change Request vs. Creating/Writing A Change Request). Otherwise Q1 option 1 would be correct according to wording of your CMP Flowchart.

Hi Ray, I answered all with no problems except #2, where I thing the answer should be A(update issue log) as this is an issue that is identified and need to be captured for monitoring and controlling, PM has not yet went to customer, issue is still within project and the team, plz explain? And I really want to thank u for all ur support and great videos
Hi Hassan, updating the issue log will not take you a step closer to the solution of the problem you are having. You maybe covered from a documentation standpoint, but ideally you should be updating the 'change log' not the 'issue log'.
please clarify on the change request in your RUclips, and the change request By rita mulcahy 10thedition (page 119-120), there is a dichotomy.. Create a Change request in Prior ICC loop vis-a-vis in your youtube, where in it is written prior CCB formal change request is created. Further Page 120 of Rita says Agile Change Management does not require CCB approval. in addition, this is also amplified in Andrew PDUs, however, your situation based mentions regarding CCB for Agile Changes . 2), you may go through the flow of Rita's changes (Page 120)/ which is not matching by your advocated change flow. It is to further submit, Andrew Ramdayal 35 PDUs is ditto copying Rita's Change Management Flow.

hi Ray, can you help me with this question? I am confused on the answer provided by the portal. Question: You are employed by a Software dev company as a PM. Your company has a policy that has a change control board (CCB) that reviews all of the change requests for every project in the org, & the CCB follows all the recommended activities outlines in the PMBOK. You and your project team do not serve as members of CCB. Based on this scenario, which of the following activities might be performed by members of CCB? A. creating a change request B. Implementing approved change requests to achieve project's objectives. C. Evaluating changes to project artificats not specified in the configurations management plan. D. Monitoring implementation of approved change requests as they occur.
Great video.. can you help me understand this line from pmbok ... "Changes may or maynot impact the project base line- Sometimes only the performace against the base line is effected. Decision on those changes are usually made by the project manager. "
This refers to your project KPIs. Eg. You may have targeted an internal KPI such as '% attendance of team members in project meeting >90%'...now some of your team members shift departments, that does not necessarily mean that your scope, cost or schedule will be affected, but it means that that KPI of your's will get affected here...as a PM you can take a decision here to revise the KPI to >80% for time being...no harm done!
Hi Ray , I have watched all your videos and really find them helpful. I have a question re: change management, which happens first evaluating impact of change or creating and submitting the change request. As per PMBOK and PMI mock exam CCB is in charge of evaluating and reviewing the CR and the first step PM takes in such situations is to submit the change request. Could you clarify, pls . I have reviewed your CMP flowchart.
Hi! This video is quite helpful. But I have a doubt related to this and your Change Management Video. In your CMP Flowchart, Step 3 is about documenting the change in the Change Log (not creating/ writing a formal CR). Which is the step according to your flowchart where a PM has to raise a formal CR? I understand that impact analysis has to be done after documenting the change in the Log. But when is the formal CR going to be raised? Before or after impact analysis? Situational Question 1 has confused me.
Hi.. can you pls clarify if the steps are Request > Define > DOCUMENT IN CHANGE LOG > Link To Scope > Evaluate Impact > ICC Loop > CREATE/WRITE CR > Take to CCB/Sponsor (Approver) > Decision > Update Change Log OR Request > Define > DOCUMENT IN CHANGE LOG > Link To Scope > Evaluate Impact > CREATE/WRITE CR > ICC Loop > Take to CCB/Sponsor (Approver) > Decision > Update Change Log. Am thinking its latter cause learning point # 1 mentions we write the CR after impact analysis
It is the latter: Request > Define > DOCUMENT IN CHANGE LOG > Link To Scope > Evaluate Impact > CREATE/WRITE CR > ICC Loop > Take to CCB/Sponsor (Approver) > Decision > Update Change Log.
Hi Arjun, no change is proposed till it gets logged in the change log. In project offices, we can talk of changes in meetings, corridors, cafeteria etc. but they are all 'wishlist' till they get formally documented in a change log...
Hi Ray, in quest 2, scope which team removed to meet schedule was part of agreed scope so how can this be considered as change, instead it should be taken as issue. Please suggest.
Hi Ray, I have a question. When the CCB approves a change request, but the team members are not happy with the change and does not want to perform the change. What shud the project manager do? Ask the team to perform the change as it is approved or meet the stakeholder who has raised the change request to understand the concerns?
Hello. If it comes from CCB after approval, then it has already gone through the steps of analyzing & evaluating the impact etc. etc (your team members should have voiced their concerns then)...hence the next step should be to start the process of implementation...dosen't matter if all of the teams members like the change or not...
Hi Ray - a quick question As per the earlier analysis by the PM, the equipmemnt for the project is to be delayed by a month. However, The PM was just notied that, the delayed equipment will arrive in 15 days. Should a PM still raise a Change request in this situation?
Depends. If it affects the schedule beyond an agreed threshold (let's say in the PM plan you mentioned that you will only raise a change request once a delay >30 days happen in a project)....then yes! After that you update baseline.
Hi Louie Thanks for watching. Please note that the PMP exam is not a test of PMBOK. The exam tests your overall knowledge of project management and PMI is not bound to ask you questions only from PMBOK.
Hi Ray, sorry in qn. 2 I have a doubt that the we are planning to reduce scope internally but not yet communicated to customer and no idea if customer approves for it or not.. In this case option B ( updating risk register) is not appropriate instead directly going to do change log updates?
Hello Ray, I have downloaded your ebook on pmp exam plan. I need to ask you - I am a MBA post grad and I have 5 years of experience in the areas of Online Marketing and Monitoring. I have lead some of the projects there but I have never served a role of project manager.. Mostly I have worked in the execution and control phases of projects. Must I take CAPM or PMP?
Hi Nidhi, you can go for PMP provided you are able to defend your experience in project management if your application is audited. You need not 'be' a project manager to appear for PMP, but you need to have first hand experience of the roles & responsibilities of a project manager...
PMPwithRay Thank You so much for your reply. May I know what type of applications are requested for audit? I heard only a small percentage but they are decided on what basis, i would like to know. As some of my managers are now changed and I have to look for someone else in the team to represent my line managers..
Hi Nidhi, during the audit, you need to provide a written statement from your manager/s that whatever you have written in the PMP application/project descriptions are true...
Hello Ray, today was my PMP exam, your videos helped me but unfortunately I failed. The scene with me is in 2 domain I scored above target and in 1 below target. The exam is complete set of one and they should aggregate the result, I am shocked to see the result . Need your input on this, is there any chance PMP can revisit my result before sharing it to me on my email id and declare it pass.
Hi Ragini, I am very sorry to hear this. Nevertheless, you should take it on stride and look forward. The PMP is indeed a tough exam. Unfortunately, the scorecard from PMI can't be used for any decision making on why you failed, as you rightly said, it's very vague. PMI doesn't allow any reviews of your results as well. It is what it is. I would recommend that you take a few weeks break to reflect what went wrong and start afresh. There has been something fundamentally wrong and you need to find that before you start preparing again.
@@PMPwithRay yeah sure, currently very dishearten and not able to decide whether to take second attempt or not because I am Mother of a 4 yr old and I had taken break after his birth to look after him and thought to resume my career now by updating myself with PMP certification. My PMP learning started from my house with time and people management and after all household work making time for studies. It's hectic. Let see if I can make up my mind. Thanks for the reply.
I can understand your situation. You are managing a lot of responsibilities and it's definitely very challenging to strike a balance. Please take some time off before starting again...
Hi Ray, In one of your videos you said that PMI gives a sample paper once we enroll for PMP. Well, I have scheduled the exam but can't find the sample paper...Could you let me know how to obtain it please ?
I have a doubt for question 2, I agree the project team is talking about change but that change started from an issue right and that issue has to be logged first in Issue Log right? It's not helping the situation but it's very confusing
Changes dosen't start from an 'issue'.....they start from a 'request'...there is a big difference....take issues as daily to/do items which you sort out with the project team day in & day out... Issue: Normal day to day working points with your team (send report, update meeting notes, order new laptop for new team member, conduct vendor induction etc. etc.) Change: Any instance which may impact your cost, scope, schedule, resources etc. (Eg. vendor got bankrupt, raw ,material delivery delayed, one of your resources leave etc., etc.)
@PMPwithRay In the situational question 1, the option 1 is "Create a change request". As per your flow chart, "Create a change request" comes first and then "Analyse the impact" come next. So your clarification on situational question 1 is not clear.
hi Ray, in all your questions you talk about some Rule 1 and Rule 2 (Read the stem of Question). What are the rules to look for rejections as I work with striking options and always end up with 2 options and select the wrong one.
Hello Amit, that is why in the beginning of the video I mentioned to watch the 'Situational Q Framework' video. I have explained those items in great detail there. Watch this video first & you will be able to understand what I mean by rule/stem etc: ruclips.net/video/6acSWefCyes/видео.html
i got the answer, there is another video that you shared (ruclips.net/video/6acSWefCyes/видео.html) and thats helpful... I started following you/your videos late. I wish i had met you before...
Hi Ray, In one of your videos you said that PMI gives a sample paper once we enroll for PMP. Well, I have scheduled the exam but can't find the sample paper...Could you let me know how to obtain it please ?

Hello can you please help me to understand that do we need to update change log while documenting the change request as what I know is that it need to be updated once CCB make decisions positive or negative or defer.

Hi Tony. Thank you for your comment. If you have found the questions straight forward, then you already have a good grasp of the concepts! Well done!

Hi Sana,
I would advice you NOT to view any answer choice in isolation, but to evaluate them always w.r.t. all the 4 answer choices.
Thanks for the feedback Ray! I passed the exam today, your tips on change management were really helpful!

You maybe covered from a documentation standpoint, but ideally you should be updating the 'change log' not the 'issue log'.
mr ray please check out in your flow chart you have written twice about creating change request in the beginning and in the end
Will check thank you!

please clarify on the change request in your RUclips, and the change request By rita mulcahy 10thedition (page 119-120), there is a dichotomy..

A. creating a change request
B. Implementing approved change requests to achieve project's objectives.
C. Evaluating changes to project artificats not specified in the configurations management plan.
D. Monitoring implementation of approved change requests as they occur.
I think it is C
Hi, yes, should be C as mentioned in pg. 115, 2nd paragraph of PMBOK6

@@PMPwithRay thanks alot! I thought so too. But the ans for this from the portal was A. I was like what :/

Hi Archana, the first step for the PM is to evaluate the CR before submitting to CCB for approval in the form of a written CR proposal...
I only got one correct answer among 4. I need to learn a lot.
Yes, please practice , practice & practice till you start answers these type of questions correctly!
Hello Gaurang, formal CR is raised AFTER triple constraint analysis.
@@PMPwithRay Thank You!
Hi.. can you pls clarify if the steps are Request > Define > DOCUMENT IN CHANGE LOG > Link To Scope > Evaluate Impact > ICC Loop > CREATE/WRITE CR > Take to CCB/Sponsor (Approver) > Decision > Update Change Log OR Request > Define > DOCUMENT IN CHANGE LOG > Link To Scope > Evaluate Impact > CREATE/WRITE CR > ICC Loop > Take to CCB/Sponsor (Approver) > Decision > Update Change Log.
Is proposed change logged(before documenting ) also a part of change log
Hi Arjun, no change is proposed till it gets logged in the change log. In project offices, we can talk of changes in meetings, corridors, cafeteria etc. but they are all 'wishlist' till they get formally documented in a change log...
Hi Ray, in quest 2, scope which team removed to meet schedule was part of agreed scope so how can this be considered as change, instead it should be taken as issue. Please suggest.
Hi Anu
Actually it is the reverse. SInce it is a part of agreed scope , you need to change the scope baseline. Hence, it is a change not an issue.
Really ray bhai u've put a great effort for this video ... thanks
Another thing is that the we are waiting for rest of the process group of ITTOs ...
Hello Barada. Thank you for your comment. Yes, the ITTO videos will come out soon as well :)
Hi Ray - a quick question
As per the earlier analysis by the PM, the equipmemnt for the project is to be delayed by a month. However,
The PM was just notied that, the delayed equipment will arrive in 15 days. Should a PM still raise a Change request in this situation?
Depends. If it affects the schedule beyond an agreed threshold (let's say in the PM plan you mentioned that you will only raise a change request once a delay >30 days happen in a project)....then yes! After that you update baseline.
Vey helpful for my PMP prep! All the 4 learning points were new to me!
Glad it was helpful!

Hi Ray in 6:20 this is not explained in the PMBOK 6th edition, if I am correct..
Hi Louie
Thanks for watching.
No, becuase you must analyze the risk first w.r..t triple constraint before taking a call whether to update the risk register or not.
Ok👍

Issue: Normal day to day working points with your team (send report, update meeting notes, order new laptop for new team member, conduct vendor induction etc. etc.)
Change: Any instance which may impact your cost, scope, schedule, resources etc. (Eg. vendor got bankrupt, raw ,material delivery delayed, one of your resources leave etc., etc.)
