The LUMIX S 24 1.8 is a great lens for vlogging as wel as real estate and cityscape. My personal favorite of the 1.8 primes is the 35mm but that was not wide enough for vlogging. This is a great addition to my kit for filming myself. What's your go-to lens for vlogging?
I have the LUMIX S 35mm f/1.8 which I love. However I want a talking head lens for my channel and a lens to photograph in nightclubs where space is limited. I am debating between the 18mm and the 24mm Which one would you chose for my use case?
Todd I just came across your channel and love the straight forward content! We use the LUMIX S5 and S1 for our production company and the 85mm is a staple for me! You've got me excited on this 24mm👊🏼 much love from East Tennessee🙏🏼
Hey Garrett, thank you so much for the feedback. That's exactly what I am going for. Good to hear about your use of the S5 and S1. 2 great options. Glad to hear you like the 85. The 24 is fantastic and I love the new 35 as well. Greeting from Texas...but as of now, greetings from Gallatin TN as we are here for the holidays with family.
I absolutely want it but the nearly $1000 is a put off for me. Might just get a vintage 24mm f2 or something and see if I actually like the focal length first.
Liked your straight forward approach to this Review! I got the 16mm 1.4 from Sigma, but Hunting is super visible on the S5 while with native L-Mount lenses there is virtually no Hunting (Why is that, anyway?)
Thank you for the feedback! As far as the hunting, the main difference that causes this is that Sigma uses a stepping motor vs the linear motor that LUMIX uses. The linear motor is faster and smoother when using AF. Another difference is firmware updates. Not sure if Sigma firmware updates are keeping up with updates to the S5 focus updates. BUT the motor difference is the main thing. One other consideration, is the Sigma 16 a DC DN lens or just a DC?
@@ToddWhiteStudios thanks for the explanation - it's the engine that separates the choices, as always. The 16mm is a DG DN lens, but initially rendered for MFT and APS-C type sensors. They made it work for Fullframe, but in Videomode it is recognized as an APS-C lens. Maybe got some cropping, too. Have to compare it to my 20-60. ... AND I DID: OK, this works with the same field of view as the 24mm! Exactly the same. But it does have an aperture of f1.4 - So, what happens here? It is cropping down for photography as well. That's a bummer, which I didn't know until now. Thanks again, without your video I never would've tried, I always thought I bought a 16mm for L-Mount >_
Hello. Thank for the comment. For my style of shooting, I love the 24mm for vlogging. It's perfect on the S series - the S5 in particular. This review was shot with the 24mm. As far as street style shooting, that's a toss up between the 35 and 50. I really like the 35 but for tighter shots and still maintaining some environment, the 50 is great.
@@ktizomoment Hey, thanks for asking. Glad you are an S5 user. I love my S5. Use it almost all the time. As far as AF settings. Here's what I have when vlogging. AFC Mode 1 AFC 1 Area + with Human Detection AF Custom Setting is AF Speed at -1 AF Custom Setting is AF Sensitivity at -3 Hope that helps.

Nice review, thanks
Thank you for watching.
Thank you for this review! Very cool!
You are welcome. Let me know if there's something else or category of reviews you'd like to see
The image and bokeh are nice.
Yes they are. I was impressed. I love a 1.4 but these 1.8 primes are great. The weight and size are key point for me

Makes sense. Maybe you could rent a Sigma 24 prime or the 24-70 or 24-205 to test focal length. Thanks for your comment.
nice!
thank you. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like me to review from LUMIX or other gear

I have the 50mm 1.8 and use it mostly for video. How is the continuous eye/face AF with the 24mm?
It works great for me. It performs as the 50 and 85. Expect same AF functionality
Greetings. Which one do you prefer 24mm or 35mm for vlogging and street photography? I have the 50mm thinking of getting the 24mm or 35mm. Thanks

@@ToddWhiteStudios I appreciate it sir. I went ahead and purchased the 24 based on the sample here!
@@ToddWhiteStudios also what is your typical setting for vlogging? If it’s alright. I really like the AF mode setting. I also have S5. Thanks again.

@@ToddWhiteStudios much appreciated. Will def use it! Thanks again. I got my 24mm 2 days ago and I can't wait to play with it.
It costs too much! $900 usd is too much. I'll wait on the 35mm.\ and use my 20-60mm zoom for the wide stuff.
Same price range as the Nikkor S counterpart.
$900 is ridiculous, ill stick to my vintage manual lens
@@Ariel_emerald that's cool. The pricing is in line with most other 24mm fast lenses on the market.
@@Ariel_emerald and your 20 year old camera?😂🤣🤣🤣
@@andersistbesser my camera is from 2020 try again

How much? Really? No thanks
Actually, that price falls in line with other primes in that aperture range across all brands. It does not stand out in price for a 24 fast prime.
