Really impressed with that hot glue trick for the tip of the weapon!
Ahh tip failure.. been having that problem for years :/ there's a pill for that now
This is nifty. I was into 1v1 melee combat stuff in high school and our weapons weren't that small in diameter 20 years ago. Thanks for the re-introduction; I am trying to use the quarantine as an excuse to build some gear for my kids and get them doing something active.
Very smart building and clear instructions. Thanks
I just watched another video before yours where they sprayed some grease into the soda can tube molded around the pipe. Basically like baking where you grease a pan before pouring your cake so that the cake pops out of the pan!
If I’m too late to this I’m sorry but I’m just starting in my larp adventure and I thought I’d try to help out anyone else by explaining it in the terms I understand!
jus shave one end of a 3" glue stick, heat it up on the back to glue it in
hold on, doesn't the molten&re-heated glue bend better? I feel like the rigid glue sticks aren't as sturdy as re-hardened glue...
I'll be testing it...
A trick : watch series at Flixzone. I've been using them for watching a lot of movies these days.
@Cory Kylen definitely, I have been watching on Flixzone} for years myself =)
@Cory Kylen Yup, have been using flixzone} for months myself :)
Good to see you around again Jessie. Nice video. I wonder if some silicone or cooking spray on your can mold would help get it apart more easily.
Looking around online for how to figure out how to make a weapon from DR and it's Paris! :D
Hi Jesse.
This is brilliant. I have yet to make my first weapon but i am totally using this. Thanks. Hope pepsi sent you some sodas.
Very smart way to make these weapons safe
Love the concept. Seems like a lot of extra work. Could you just shave down a glue stick and heat it up once inserted or is the does it not function the same?
From the tip of the core is 2in and striking tip and 1.5in at the non-stricking end. I put the hot glue 1.5in in the core.
Great solution to this fundamental problem. Thanks for sharing! A question: Did you try a tight fitting, but sliding soda can tube, so you could move it up a bit at a time with each glue spurt until the length needed was reached? Or did that cause "drag" and not create a solid core?
no, the can should be air tight, tight to fit. And it should be slid into place and not move after you start filling the glue in. we just slid it up so that it would be the precise 2" needed.
Got you! Thanks. I guess I will have to try wiring in place because I do not have access to heatproof masking tape. Great solution. MANY Thanks You just saved me 30 years! LOL!
In the video you use a soda can to make the glue tip; have you found anything that you can use to make a longer one? its for a larp hammer.
Is epoxy tubing the same kind of material as cheap arrows and tent poles?
Thanks, man...What a great idea!
We use foam and strapping tape to make a tip/plug
Very, very, helpful! Thank you for the post!
I hope to see what you come up with! :-)
Jesse Skellington
I primarily make armor but some of terms and techniques used will be helpful on that front.
Holy Crap! I know you Jessie!!!
Brilliant can't wait to try
This video could use a list of items needed to make the weapon. Still pretty useful video.
why does it have to be a full two inches out of the core? why not 1 inch or less? will that not also prevent tip failure?
Just a kind of brief question. How much do you make from these weapons? Is it enough to live on or is it just a hobby that supports itself?
I'm working on it myself. Others are doing just that! :-)
Cool idea. Why not skip the whole last bunch of steps and hot glue in a chunk of gluestick? It looks about the same diameter, and it looks like it might be quicker to shape the stick than go through the process of forming one from scratch.
You'll have more tendency for failure doing it that way. The tip tends to rip off since the bond isn't as strong if the glue isn't melted down into place. You could always glue a stick on and reinforce with more glue around the outside, but then you have to cut out more foam for the rod to fit and spend time potentially trimming the glue tip. In other words....just as much work, just later in the process.
I don't think we're talking about branching off at the same point. After filling the core, why not heat a chunk of glue stick at the base and melt it to the part already in the core?
***** No, I know what you mean. Its funny, I recorded footage of Jesse testing this (it failed) and left it out of the final cut. I think we just had failure problems because there might have been dust or debris at the attachment point and we let the glue in the core cool too much. So you might have better luck :)
***** The goal is to have the same outer diameter as the "core" so, they both touch the routed out foam. This help? :-)
OR just get a thick glue stick, and glue it into the tube, and put some tape or more glue around the end of the rod to take the edge away, save a few hours fucking around with razor sharp metal and trial and error.
The Epoxy Tubing can be got here! :-) www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/plastic_rods_tubes_shapes/epoxy_tubing/144
but I got to admit he did do a good job u have my graditude
Would this form of weaponry for LARPing work for Belegarth rules?
just out of curiosity: is there an upper leangth limit to swords?
or: how long could you make a 2 handed sword so that you would stilll be able to play at most fields
depends on event you are going to
For still images of this process look here on my Facebook page: facebook.com/jesse.skellington/posts/10153205063229466
don't use pipe tape for vents, use green painters tape
Hi can you give me a detailed list of materials for all process
What are some good alternatives to the core? The only place I can find the epoxy one is the link you gave but shipping is $80 to across the pond :/
Thersoth Angrian-Black Not sure if you're still looking for an answer, but I'm currently trying to use PEX pipe for the core of my weapon. I'll let you know how it turns out if you'd like.
Thersoth Angrian-Black I'm not sure if you are still looking but I managed to find some on amazon UK - www.amazon.co.uk/1000mm-Carbon-Fiber-Pultruded-Stock/dp/B01MT888FQ/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1520728970&sr=8-7&keywords=carbon+tube
Jean Baptiste Emanuel Zorg!
use a coffee straw to help thecair to excape
What is the thickness of the tubing?
Christopher Nau I can't remember. I believe he states in the first video. 3/8th maybe?
I too have had tip failure
Where do you buy the equipment to make the sword? (Accept for glue stick i can get that at Walmart.)
+Wade Clark See the video description. Online if you don't have local retailers for some of the specialty material, EVA foam can be found at hardware stores.
for Eva foam you can also check sports supply places. weight mats.
ive seen folk drilling tiny holes at the end of the bar so the hotgleu tip wont ever come out that easy

21 inch dagger , my man that’s a sword.
Not in Dystopia Rising, that's a max lenght dagger, my dude.
where can you get these cores
Here is the hot glue update to a LARP weapon core tips: ruclips.net/video/T3Ay2NJQl8Q/видео.html
man that seems to be a pain in the butt... The act of leaning on tips kills them. (I'm sure you know this)
I just watch the kids that are playing with my weapons.Rules be
I catch you leaning once you get a warning/another detailed explanation of why not to
I catch you twice I switch your weapon for a shorter one (this is a good intensive)
I catch you three times I give the weapon to a kid that is waiting on the side lines...
I inspect my weapons often (usually after every battle) Re-tipping the swords I make is easy enough
:D but all this being said cool idea!
Hi! I would like some OPINIONS on this construction idea: but FIRST A STORY!
I was making a full contact boffer and used bamboo core + pool noodle.
my roommate came in a took it and smacked me with it. It HURT LIKE... alot.
He did it a few times before we heard some cracking... uh oh...
but then Eurika! I cracked it even more, and the sword was still intact, and the bamboo fibres were still held inside the pool noodle and EVEN BETTER: it was much safer because the sword became IMMENSELY FLEXIBLE! It was so flexible that I could hit full strength without it hurting too much, and I could hit someone with a shield and the sword flexed around their guard!
What do people think about using Splintered Bamboo as a core?
(splintered AFTER the bamboo is contained within the foam)
(I'm reposting this on a couple people's videos. hope you don't mind)
Decades ago, IFGS used bamboo as standard for its cores. It's inexpensive, and relatively easy to find. It can splinter, and eventually crack, which are the downsides. My IFGS group ultimately switched to epoxy tubing/fiberglass. More expensive, usually acquired by mail order, but much stronger in terms of likelihood for cracking.
heat the wrapped tin with a lighter
For some reason, I expected you to have a brit accent......
remember kids, stab the can hard while its in your hand, everything will be ok. trust me, I have blue hair.
I think a penny on the top wil help to.
Mara LBat at which part ?
When you do the gleu thingy. The penny will couse the fibberglass/pvc not to go trough the foam. Then you just need som padding. It works whit arrows.
YOu are very buatiful
he copied off of the larp house he is a fake he is probably watching the video because the larp house dose the same thing
I'm not sure I came across this video. But holy f'n nerd-lifes lol. GTFO geeks... The days of witches, dragons and goblins is long gone by 1000's of years. Of course there never really was dragons and goblins but there's always been lots of 'witches'😂
Geeks lol🤓
