I have a mint condition Nikon Nikkor QC 135mm f3.5. Inside the front element there was some fungus. The element group looks almost identical in construction to this 105. Tried nail polish remover for a few hours with out success. What did work was I placed the element group in a frezer bag and froze it for a couple of hours. Removed it and with my mini butane torch carefully heated the rings and they came loose with minimum effort. Gave myself a pat on the back and continued with the fungus removal.
wow the amount of thread lock they used! lol I have this lens (AI I believe) and I need to do this to clean out some fungus. This video should help. Thanks again!
I need advice from you @mikeno62. To clean fungus on the lens, should using 3% hydrogenperoxide be enough? what about hydrogenperoxide 30% and 50%? Currently the only fluid I use is 99% isopropyl.
I many times disassemble a lens during 3 sequence, it will say, cleaning the aperture assembly, then clean and re-grease the focus assembly and last cleaning the lens elements. Of course I make all the marks and notes, so I know how it's assembled again. Many times, before I actually make a video about a lens, I have been into it and measure the focus system, then figure out how the aperture assembly is made and set small marks!, and also how the lens elements are sitting, and sometimes I also take some pictures. Simply because, for many lenses there are no (0) repair manual about them
I have a very strange autofocus problem on my F90x. It will not autofocus if I hold it in the regular horizontal way. If I turn it upside down it will autofocus great everytime. Also if I hold it normal (horiz.)then begin rotating it around the axis of the lens, it will autofocus at the same point or angle of rotation every time. The point where it starts AF is always about 20-30 deg. from being fully vertical. It will always AF if it is upside down. I have cleaned the lens connections and tried other lenses and still have the same problem. please help
It is, depending how bad the fungus is, and it's on the other hand difficult to say before seeing the lens, but most of the many, many lenses I have cleaned with big success, it is worth trying, but only use 3% Hydrogen Peroxide!
Kenneth, could i ask something irrelevant. What is your opinion for chipping these old ai, or non ai or ai-s lenses with chips like dandelion? Have you ever done something like that?
I am a faithful follower of your work I congratulate you for your dynamism and grace as you express I thank you if you can help me I have a leicaflex sl camera the timer does not work thanks and regards
