Huge Abandoned Mining Equipment - Underground Explore - Scenic Hike To Remote & Historic Location ⛏️

  • After a long hike on a scenic old miner's trail high up in the mountains we came to a remote abandoned mine and miner's camp. At the camp are two cabins that have been flattened by wind and time and an interesting open portal. There is also an equipment shed that housed a huge engine and huge air compressor, both very impressive and great to see. After giving the engine and air compressor a thorough examination we head into the underground workings. This gold/lead and copper mine was primarily active between 1915 and 1918. There is a colorful mineral vein here and the miners used natural timbers for shoring and track ties in the underground workings.

It's amazing how much heavy equipment they managed to get up into these high places for mining. The must have disassembled everything and hauled it up piece by piece, then re-assembled it. I also wonder how many mules and burros they worked near to death in the process too. That is a very interesting machine assembly at that mine. Motor, air compressor, some kind of water system, etc. and a big flat belt to connect it all together.

A first for me, I have never seen a vertical style air compressor in all the mine explores I have watched. It is an Ingersoll Rand, but most have horizontal pistons. It appears the miners had to bring it up in pieces as it would be far too heavy for a single animal and the trail is not wide enough for a wagon or sled.

The engine is a head less Witte a big one ! just guessing maybe a 15 hp they made many different HP and they all looked the same from small to big there's a guy in Ma that has a hole collection I had a 2 hp that looked just like that but just much smaller. That engine would run again with not much work.

Them other Nome guys.. cry and do nothing but talk how dangerous it is. And how they are the only people who can walk and talk...I've found I will not watch..the rest of the clowns any more.
