  • I had to REJECT DELIVERY of a brand new 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance due to imperfections in the $2,000 optional Ultra Red paint… Let me know in the comments; WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE?
At least 6 areas of bad paint, along with several scratches on the rear trunk lid. Tesla service tried to do paint correction but it did not resolve the spotting in the clear. I've been waiting a couple months for this car to arrive, so it’s disappointing and frustrating not to be able to take delivery and now I’m back in the queue for the next available Ultra Red M3P.
I will say Tesla service is extremely nice and apologetic and they did attempt to make repairs but were unsuccessful. Hopefully the next one will be ready for me to take home!

Wether it's a Tesla, KIA, VW group car... If i buy a new car, the paint will have to be pristine.

Took delivery of mine on June 11. Same color. Upon delivery inspection found a crease on the lower left part of the trunk lid. The metal was actually creased and then painted over. I took delivery and then service had it for six days but they fixed the crease and now it looks good. Took the delivery on June 5th. I had to wait 21 days to bring in for the service to correct similar paint issues as yours, scratches in door jam area, dent on trunk hatch area and bunch of other minor issues that I found during the inspection. I didn't think they would be able to fix it to 100%, but to my surprise it came back in perfect condition in less than 8 hours. Kudos to Tesla @ Lynnwood. I was skeptical after all the reviews showing how Tesla made it worse than before. But I guess they came a long way. Definitely give them a chance to fix those issues.

When I got my 2022 Model 3 Performance, I checked the car for defects and it was pretty much OK, but not perfect. There were no panel gaps, but I did noticed that the headlights were a bit off here and there, but really, maybe by a millimeter or two so nothing crazy. Same, the passenger side rear door is a tiny bit more open than the rest when closed, but again, nothing crazy. The paint did have issues, the entire front of the car was "polished" most likely by the local Tesla when they received the vehicle. Reason? I am going to assumed it was due to poor delivery/transportation where lots of bugs got into the paint as the car was delivered from across the country. Whoever did the "polishing" better have a good different job because he or she has no clue how to do it. Instead of polishing, it got all scratched up. But considering the car was just fine and the scratches were superficial from not knowing how to polish, I accepted it. Once I got home, I replaced the wheels with aftermarket wheels and tires (I got the Arachnid style staggered), and took it to get nano-ceramic tints. I also got quoted there for a full polishing and ceramic treatment but it was way too much. So, since I have the tools, I just did the polishing myself and used a semi-ceramic wax for the finishing. I saved over a thousand dollars doing it myself and I got about 95% of the scratches off and the car looked ready for a car show, so I cannot complain. After two years, it is time for me to remove the waxing with some good soap and redo the waxing, just being lazy, but will have to do it eventually. Unfortunately, your brand new Model 3 Performance had more than just small scratches, those paint defects are just that, defects, they will not come out because the issue is how the paint finishing was done, and all that is under the clear coat, so you did the right thing by rejecting the delivery. Hopefully the next one will be OK. Good luck!
