  • This recording is my rendering of the "Shine part" of ukulelezaza's RUclips arrangement of Shine/5 Foot 2 and played on a 1928 Abbott Monarch. I'm in standard "C" tuning. The Monarch has a new vellum, bridge, a good polish and is strung with Andy Eastwood's Brightone strings. Like all my RUclips tunes, it's a work in progress. For the "real deal," be sure to subscribe to ukulelezaza's RUclips channel and also check out Andy Eastwood's website for his recordings and a Marketplace of all things banjo uke.

just has a melodic sound that copies just can't seem to replicate.

The ultimate in banjo ukuleles (in my opinion).

Sounds great for a ukulele banjo. I've got 2 working and one in need of extensive repairs (warped neck) Abbot 5 string banjos, and I used to have an Abbott tenor banjo. All lovely instruments without being very fancy. Real players instruments IMHO. They don't make them like that anymore.

Andy, when this one came up on EBay several years back I realized that living here in Minnesota, if I didn't bid on it I'd probably never see another one or ever even get a chance to play one. It had the original head which I still have but I think the new vellum made a big difference in tone - for the better. That isn't always the case. Thanks for checking out the video!

Thanks. I’m a 5-string player having too much fun trying to figure out ukulele.

@@canoebanjoguy I started on a Ubass and stepped up to ukulele. Still getting a feel for 6 string guitar, but I can rock an open G tuned CBG

Wow! What a terrific uke. Good thing you've changed the vellum, I think. I haven't heard it with the old one, but it definitely looks a whole lot better now. Stunning looks and magnificent sound. Can't wait to have a go on it. :)
