I am a 2016 Olympic Alternate and former NCAA athlete and have deferred my senior year at the University of Utah to come back to elite gymnastics and try for a spot on the 2021 Olympic Team. This channel documents my journey and gives insight into the life of someone preparing for the Olympics!

It’s disappointing that USAG wouldn’t have dinner available for the gymnasts who just competed at Olympic trials! That’s crazy.

Yes indeed. Should have been waiting for them at hotel or at the trials site to take to go.
They could of had a few warming trays out or at the really least have some go bags with cold food such as sandwiches etc
esp given there is a world wide pandemic and if they are going out for dinner, it exposes them to risk, being around more people!
Well this is USAG we're talking about here and the bar is set very low regarding taking care of their athletes. I think they consider a job well done when they get through the day without a gymnast stepping forward claiming to be abused emotionally/physically while competing for them.

It start at 5.30am in the morning for me. In my normal routine i sleeps at 3 4 am amd then wakes up late in the morning. So its gonna be a struggle for me too. But i dont mind

Congratulations!!! When they called Grace, I was like "oh no" 😟 she didn't make it...but then when they called your name for the individual spot I was literally screaming with joy so loud the neighbors could hear. I wasn't even thinking about the individual spot because of Riley with Bars and Kara with beam, but I'm really surprised in a good way that you got the individual spot!!! Go and get 🇺🇲 a vault medal!!! You got this and you deserve this and not giving up certainly pays off!!!

The fact Myk and Grace both got a spot is beyond my wildest dreams lol. I was routing for them both equally!! I'm a soft idiot leftie so Grace's story with her brothers and sisters going without so she could do gym just melts my heart. And Myk with her come back and determination is amazing!!
I always feel that Mykayla is underated, underappreciated and underscored. I wish Mykayla the very best.
Love the fact that gymnasts are eating healthy meals and it seems like whatever they want...even if it’s a Frappuccino! You know Marta would’ve never allowed that. I remember Simone telling the story about Aly being scared to grab an apple she wanted at the Karolyi ranch and them practically starving the girls or restricting and limiting food. Goodbye Marta and hello what seems like a healthier and happier future for gymnasts, at least so far. Yes, the Karolyi’s cranked out machines and winners, but most gymnasts former and current sound glad they’re finally gone. A lot of them have thrown digs big and small at the Karolyi’s and their methods. I think it’s all just one big nightmare/memory of the past with everything that happened between them and within the whole organization. Proud of Simone for sticking around and demanding changes when she wasn’t sure she wanted to come back at first . Proud of all the athletes that endured Marta’s reign and came back to give it another shot (like MyKayla). Go Myk, so proud of you! Awesome job at trials and good luck at the Olympics! Prove the haters wrong!!

Truly, no disrespect to Grace.. She is amazing! But, I was pretty shocked at the results too. But - so glad Mykayla landed a spot! She did it! 🙌 🇺🇸

No offense to Grace, but that was an odd choice on the fourth one, just because of the events they needed most. But I guess when it comes down to it, they know they will easily win gold, anyway, so they figured they'd just reward who finished fourth...

Myk talking about the crowd before her dismount made me tear up. As a fan, I always wonder if the athletes hear us and feel us. Glad to know the crowd helped, I was yelling from home too! 💜💜💜

I have been a fan of Makayla for about as long as she has been a gymnast. My daughter was a figure skater but she also loved gymnastics and actually did gymnastics at the same gym. So we have always supported gymnasts from this gym but Makayla has always held a special place in our hearts. We are both so extremely proud of her and we actually bawled when she made the Olympic team and we have tears whenever we watch her perform. We will be supporting her all the way from here in Scottsdale, Az!!! ❤️

Congratulations Mykayla!! I Just missed out on making the Canadian Olympic Team this year for Sprint Kayaking and you have been such a huge motivation for me in this time. So proud of how you've overcome being an alternate in 2016 to finally getting to compete at the Olympic Games. If it makes you feel better about working through the comp, I was watching it, then fell asleep during the deliberation period and didnt wake up again until after it was all over. In the meantime I had a dream that Myk didn't make the team. It was lovely to wake up and find out she did. Thank you brain!

imagine the position she's in. she can only say good things right now no matter how she feels... she deserves to be on the team. tom said 2 weeks ago they were going with the strongest potential team, but clearly changed his mind. now her best hope is to make vault final and and with so many strong vaulters on team usa and the 2 per country rule it's going to be tough. she's going to compete in qualifications and if she doesn't make the finals in any event or aa her olympics are already over.
@@SonOfAGun1814 it may be more of a backup thing because they are for sure gonna have suni and Simone in the all around but if they get injured mckaylas been pretty solid from an all around standpoint. and if jade for whatever reason is injured or something she could make and medal in a vault final. they also could have been thinking putting grace in on bars in case of injury. but i did think with her and graces combined performance mykayla should have been on the team over grace.
@@sambutterfield8960 it will be interesting to know if mykayla is only going to train vault/floor leading up to the games or try to qualify for any/all individual finals. still makes no sense. she didn't make this team by the same 'logic' they used in 2016.....
