    Thank you very much. As someone without mechanical experience, removing the manifold seems like a colossal undertaking. Your video takes an intimidating task and lays it out in manageable steps for the whole process. It doesn't mean that it's a breeze; it took me several hours of meticulous work, scratched hands and pulled hamstrings, but I understood the steps and had the confidence. I successfully replaced the coils and spark plugs on my Mazda 2005 in 2019, and again in 2024 after the warranty on the coils expired. Each time I studied your video to prepare. Me and my Mazda thank you!

    Thanks for the video! Just inherited a 2004 MPV that was running horribly - watched your video and was inspired to take on the project. Turns out the PCV hose was toast - replaced that and coils/plugs/PCV valve - purrs like a kitten now! Couldn't have done it without your vid - cheers!

    5 years later and people are still watching this or at least I did. Lol. It was a huge help in replacing all 6 coil packs and spark plugs. Only only took me 6 hours. Haha oh yea I forgot to mention my hamstrings are killing me too.

    I want to say THANK YOU!!! I performed this task on my 2006 Mazda MPV after it developed a misfire on spark plug #2. I replaced all plugs and the #2 coil...
    After reassembly, the van is running really smooth, and it passed emissions!

    OK...I am getting tired of this. I have used this video on 3 separate occasions for our 04 MPV. 180K and the damn thing just keeps running. So thank you....I think. Hard to justify something newer when maybe every 6 months or so the fix is less than $50. Truly amazing video, cannot thank you enough.

    Thank you very much for this informative video. Gave me the confidence to do this myself. took 2 hours. the price of the parts was significantly less than what the shop charged me to replace a single coil. The rough idle completely gone and car running well.

    I've hardly done anything on a car before. Spent 5 trips to the auto store. I spent 10 hours total doing this, but was eventually successful. It all sucked (the worst part for me were the 4 small hoses behind/underneath the air intake hose) BUT I wouldn't have been able to do it without this video. Thanks!

    Well, did some investigating and found 2 things. My coolant reservoir was completely empty. Filled and took for test drive and still no heat. Came home and looked at all the hoses for leaks. No leaks. So I look at the 2 big hoses going through the firewall and notice something that looks like a switch on one hose. I flip the switch (which is actually a petcock) and voila! I now have heat! I didn't notice the petcock during my uninstall/reinstall but it is right next to the back intake bracket. So I must have moved it when I was doing my work.So mystery solved! Thanks for all your help KB. You da man! :)One other thing... Chris Isaacs is me below so commenting by the same person. :)

    I've got a 04 MPV LX. Runs and drives great, reverse not so much. It sorta creeps backwards while on level ground but give it some beans and it revs up like it's in neutral.
    Thank You for posting this. I've got 4 different tires, I'm sure the plugs on the rear cylinders haven't been changed. Lots of little things that weren't done. Cabin air filters were completely clogged up. I'm losing coolant but thankfully not into the oil. That's diluted with fuel. 😋 Just more opportunities to learn new things to fix or replace.

    So I just did the rear coils and it took about 3 hours with a break in the middle. I removed the throttle body so I wouldn't have to disconnect the coolant lines going to it. The only difficult thing I found was get access to the EGR valve bolds so used a 1/4 socket with a wobbly with a 1/4 extention through the break valve pipes with a second wobbly and adapter to a 1/2 ratchet. Pretty easy overall.

      Kill-O-Byte Great video Sir, many thanks for dedicating so much time to come up with this excellent and educative piece. I am picking up 2002 MPV, in very good condition mileage 69,000 and this is the first time I will be driving a Mazda MPV. Apart from changing the spark plugs and the coil which everyone says is the weakness of the Mazda MPV, is there anything else I should look out for? And what are the signs or indications that the spark plugs and coils needs to be charge or how often should it be changed. Kindly help Sir. My email is papaeli.gh@gmail.com. I am getting in touch with you from Ghana. Many thanks in advance.

      +Woelikplim Elikplimi The MPV is a solid and reliable van overall. The PCV valve hose tends to split right around 70,000 miles. I have a video on it here: ruclips.net/video/eEQ5xUKx8LE/видео.html. Mazda sales an updated designed hose that is supposed to fix the issue. I would suggest changing the spark plugs and coils somewhere between 70,000 and 100,000 miles. Mine lasted 100,000 miles before the check engine light came on due to a coil going bad. The engine started running rough just before the light came on. Thanks and good luck with yours!

    So happy I found your video. I changed 4-6 yesterday but had no idea how to get to 1-3. I was going to try to do it myself this morning, but looks like I may need to wait for my husband so he can help.
    Quick question, does taking it apart like this make it easier to get the O2 sensor? We just replaced two of them but getting a misread from that one. Was thinking of checking the connection and wires if possible while changing plugs.

    I'm so glad this video exists. Just got an 05 mpv. I know I can find someone to "pass" the inspection. But if I can get this free car to last me a few years, 142000 miles on it. I'll be stoked. I just don't wanna pay crazy money for something as simple as this...at least i hope it's simple.

    Thanks kill-o-byte. I followed your instructions step by step and was able to take it off. I bought my 2003 mazda mpv for 5,000 and had only 50,000 miles. I'm very disappointed with this van. Two weeks after purchase I noticed a leak where from oil pan gasket. Had that replaced...that was 160.00 dollars. Have had two batteries which I purchased at O'Riely...both went bad before warranty...never buy your battery from O'Riely...eventually bought one at Sears...so far so good. But, now the coils. Why so many problems with a van that has only 50,000 miles? I found out that though it has the Japanese name 'Mazda' they're manufactured here in the US...and I believe by Ford. That explains everything about the poor quality of the vehicle. I'll keep this piece of crap for another 50 or 70,000 miles then get rid of it before it nickel and dimes me to death...that's what American manufactured cars do...

      Interesting how people have different experiences. Our van just hit 200K and is only now starting to give us problems. One of the best vehicles we have ever owned. (Contrast that to a KIA Sedona we just traded; 60 days in the shop in a 12 month period and just a hair over 50K on the clock.)

    Excellent video. It sure gave me a better idea on how to do the job on my 2004 Mazda MPV. I'm now subscribed to your channel.
    Just one suggestion is for you to have someone to hold the camera for you or use a tripod when possible and another thing will be to use more light specially when showing the back or hidden places.
    One less thing, the video was blurry when you tried to show how bad the old spark plugs ware or the Coils numbers, try to move things farther from camera to solve that problem.

    Had a flashing CEL showing lean both banks. Replaced the intake hose then got p0301 with stuttering idle. Took off intake and found cylinders 1 and 3 spark plugs loose covered in combustion material. Cylinder 1 plug's electrode was broken and extended down onto little arm at end of plug. I'm changing all plugs to be safe!! I should of known something was wrong when I started getting a faint gas smell in vehicle.

    I hope you still are helping, I had them replaced and it runs good but the light stopped blinking but is still on code stating lower O2 sensors needing replacing at this time, but on funny thing is I gave the shop 5 QT of oil and a new filter. When my wife and I picked the van up he stated we needed about another 1/2 to 1 qt of oil????, No mechanic has ever told me this before for any of my cars. (did they accidently spill my oil)? Then after driving a couple of days the Oil light has flickered come on and gone off is something loose, did you mess with anything having to do with the oil.???

  • @arthurhu2290
    @arthurhu2290 6 лет назад +1

    you need a clock to show how long it took to get each point. He says it takes 4 hours with camera work at the end. This is why it's worth it for most people to pay somebody to do this, not a beginner's job. You have to disconnect everything the air manifold is connected to or blocks, then remove that part. Not like my old 1970 Valiant tune up.

    Hello guys, I have a 2005 mpv. the p0302 code just came up so I had a mechanic change out all my coils a and plugs, the engine light still shows the same code and we even turned off the light and it came back on again, it feels better than before but it still sputters at low rpms and at a stop where before it was happening at higher rpms, I keep thinking maybe the mechanic didn't connect something back correctly, but it's weird that the same exact code comes up p0302, is there something that he could have not put back correctly that would cause the same code to come up, I mean how come another cylinder doesn't show a missfire code only the one that was showing a missfire code in the first place, I would appreciate your input, thanks.

    JUST hit 203,567miles on my 05 MPV... my ignition coil, and cylinder #2 are going bad... not excited about this- especially since I JUST found a crack in the plastic part of my radiator, just under the hose... I wanted to try to do this myself, buuuut, it looks like it's a TINY bit more than what I am able to accomplish on my own. *SUPER bummed out face*

      Labor time for an experienced professional is 1 hour IMHO. They may have a fixed labor time for the job that is more than that though.

    • @Killobyte

      Check your alarm system. Just a guess but it sounds like your alarm system has disabled the vehicle until a code is entered.

    • @robertmanning3922

      Sounds like a security issue which is triggered by removing the battery connections. There is a way to avoid this by using a tool consisting of a 9 V battery plugged into a power outlet. Look into it. Check owners manual.

    I'm just amazed that it's the 21st century and consumers put up with a car design that has inaccessible spark plug holes and coils that are also buried on top of a hot engine -- it is to be expected that they won't last long! Do people really believe it's not possible to engineer a vehicle better than this? This is progress? There is no excuse IMO -- smart consumers should just say NO.

    • @bubbatennessee7531
      @bubbatennessee7531 6 лет назад

      That is a FORD engine, what do you expect ?

    • @kbpl369
      @kbpl369 5 лет назад

      Well, ease of maintenance DOES factor into design engineers' engine designs but not ahead of performance, cost and other variables. Yes, I too wish that it wasn't horizontally-opposed so that I could access the plugs as easily as I can my other cars, but at the end of the day, this isn't really all that much extra work. I mean, there are some supercars that DEFINITELY put ease of maintenance on the back burner as some require the entire body to be removed from the frame to change the oil and half the motor to be disassembled if you want to also change the plugs. Xd

    How are you replacing plugs over 100k it's impossible bcuz your spark plugs only last 50k and especially if there cheap bcuz I changed my spark plugs and mazda only puts Densos and not Motorcraft, when I got my van it had 89k I think but it definitely wasn't 100k miles, and your not supposed to use antiseize since your not supposed to tighten your spark plugs so tight, it's like your oil filter you don't tighten it so much as matter of fact you hand tighten your oil filter until you can't

      Those are codes saying you have a lean condition (too much air/too little full) at idle. One code for each side of the engine(both banks) so it has to be something in common to both sides. I’d check for vacuum leaks, such as cracked hoses, but there are a lot of things that can cause those. Check out my video on replacing the pcv valve, it has some basic tips on troubleshooting a vacuum leak.
