    I had similar views of China as you, and I saw a lot of poverty and pollution when I first visited it in 2005. Since then, there have been so many amazing improvements it's almost impossible to take it all in. So like you, my views of China changed over more than a dozen years of visiting the place. But I have to tell you, the China of today is nothing like the one in 2005. In fact, if you told people in 2005 what China would be like today, no one would believe you, not even the Chinese themselves.

    Most of the surveillance cameras on the streets are for monitoring traffic violations. These cameras are used to capture instances of speeding, illegal lane changes, honking, etc. In the end, I can only say that we are all ordinary people; no one is really paying attention to what we are doing. All these measures are in place to prevent bad things from happening, and I think that's a good thing.In fact, it is rare to see police officers in China. The uniformed personnel you generally see on the streets are usually security guards, traffic coordinators, and auxiliary police. They are not police officers.When you travel to other countries, you also hope that your belongings will not be stolen.

      I am a cross-border trade worker from China. As the Chinese saying goes, "You get what you pay for." If you're willing to pay a fair price, there are many high-quality products available in China for you to choose from. Take Temu as an example: the cost of selling products to the U.S. or other countries is quite high, including platform commissions, logistics fees, advertising costs for product marketing, and customs duties in the destination country. All these factors together increase the final purchase cost of the product.

    The West have a profound arrogance and ignorance about China's politics. They only see China through the lens of their democratic values and traditions. Thus, they judge Chinese politics to be anti-human.
    Despite living in a so-called authoritarian system, the Chinese people enjoy enormous freedom. Of course, there are some limitations to this freedom, as there are in ALL nations (including America, Britain, France, Germany, etc.).
    But there's no arguing that China's system has done very well for the people. They're happy. They're living well.
    I think Westerners are jealous. That's why they dump on China.

      Making generalization of the West and its view of China is a little bit of an over exaggeration, there are many countries which would be considered part of the west and they all have varying degrees of relations with China. It's like when some of my Chinese friends tell me "you foreigners, X, Y and Z". And I have to remind them that there are 195 countries in the world and we foreigners are not all the same, there is a big difference between Europeans and Americans. And even within Europe there is a huge difference between, Northern, western, southern and Eastern Europe. Just because Americans usually do something does not mean I, as a European fit into that description. It goes the other way too when people say Chinese people, X, Y, Z.
      Chinese people are not the same, you go to Beijing then go to Yunnan province, they don't even speak the same language. Try speaking Putonghua in Yunnan countryside and some of them won't understand you.

Having just visited many cities there, we were blown away by the efficiency of the metros, the cleanliness, the serene feeling of safety, the engineering marvels in their architecture and of course, the cuisines. It is both admirable and very impressive that China has lifted 3/4 of their population from poverty in a span of 30 years and built such beautiful cities in the process. I felt I had more freedom than living in California, good or bad, e.g., I could buy a beer and drink while walking around, can’t do that in San Francisco. If I wanted go fishing, I just bought fishing rod and hooks, dogged up some worms on the river bank and enjoyed a fishing day. If I see a mountain and wanted to hike up, I could just walk up there and nobody says I was trespassing.

    The capital (the money) is not above the rules and laws of politics, so their influence in politics is limited.
    That's a very key point to understand why China gets richer and richer, but they're very efficient solving day to day people's problem and construct public infrastructure at record speed at the same time. The results over de decades really shows that the central government (CPC) cares about the citizen.
    That's not to say that there's no corruption, It's just that their methods allow them to swiftly punish big fishes (especially over the last 12 years with president Xi) and so far so good It seems that It's working quite well for them.

    关于住宅产权那个问题,其实是72年到期之后交钱续期,可以把中国的买地理解为租地。地永远属于国家,假如未来有更迫切的需要,我们作为个人要服从大多数人的利益,不能私占着土地。视频里讲的更多是拆迁补偿的措施,其实不太一样,但这至少反映了政府不是强迫征收公民财产,这也是社会进步的一大标志。
    Auto Translation: On the issue of residential property rights, in fact, it is to pay money to renew after the expiration of 72 years, and purchase of land in China can be understood as a lease. The land will always belong to the state, and if there is a more urgent need in the future, we as individuals must obey the interests of the majority and not occupy the land privately. In fact, it is not the same, but at least it reflects that the government is not forced to expropriate citizens' property, which is also a sign of social progress.

    Any form of government (or religion) are run by people and people are flawed. There will be wonderful leaders and there will be awful ones regardless of what system you have. So the absolute and unwavering support for democracies really isn't logical. Corrupt and failing democracies, as well as socialist or communist societies exist regardless. It's the people in charge that determine the progress and well being, or lack of, of the society. China is on a roll...they are definitely doing a lot of things right throughout these last decades.

    • @zjeee
      @zjeee 17 дней назад

      There are pros and cons with every system, the main advantage with a democracy is that if you have an awful leader getting rid of him is easy and worse case he is only there for 4 years.
      If you get stuck with an awful leader in a system where the leader is there for life..... yeah good luck.

    Super ta vidéo et merci pour tes conseils. Je suis retraité français marié depuis 2010 avec une épouse chinoise. La Chine, ce n'est pas mon pays, mais c'est le pays de ma femme et de sa famille, il est donc très important à mes yeux. C'est aussi la pays ou nous irons nous installer dans quelques mois. Pour y avoir fait de nombreux voyages, y avoir fréquenté ma famille et aussi acquis des expériences avec des locaux, je peux vous affirmer que la Chine est un pays moderne, propre, sécurisé, accueillant et c'est très agréable d' y vivre. Le niveau de vie y est très supérieur à la France. Je suis très en colère contre tout ses soit disant journalistes qui diabolisent la Chine ceci aux services de notre ordre occidental et qui vous mentent impunément en nous faisant croire que l'herbe est plus verte chez nous. Le jour ou vous vous donnerez la peine de vérifier par vous mêmes, vous prendrez une claque monumentale. Aucuns expatriés qui a vécu en Chine a envie de revenir en France, alors posez vous les bonnes questions. Le tiers monde, c'est pas eux, mais c'est nous. Mais pour cela, ils doivent vous empêcher de sortir de votre bulle. Et pour cela, ils doivent diaboliser le ou les pays qui les devancent. Regardez les vidéos sur RUclips de personnes qui ont visité la Chine. Vous comprendrez. J'adore la Chine, c'est un pays très chaleureux et tellement vivant. Bonne continuation BeeRose et bravo pour tes vidéos très utiles.

    I am going to assume you are living in a tier 1 city and base your experience around that, things like what happens when they tear your apartment or house down is really based on where you live there are no national standards. One city or area might provide you with a new apartment or a payment matching the value of your house. Other poorer provinces and areas might not, if you live in a city like Beijing or Shanghai you don't have to worry, you live in rural China then yeah you might not get compensated. Same about your take on poverty, my wife is Chinese from Anhui province which is not a rich province but not poor. Her hometown's average salary is 2000 RMB/month.. now if you live in a city like Shanghai or Beijing you might be under the impression that things are great when the average salary is above 10.000 RMB / month. I used to be the same as you living in Nanjing things were great and everyone was doing good I did not understand why people said Chinese people are poor. Then I did volunteer work and experienced the Chinese countryside in villages with no electricity where nobody could afford a car in the poorer provinces.
    So yeah, I still live in China and I like it and I am not trying to say you are lying about some of your points but it's clearly a tier1 city experience and take, which is fine but it is not very representative of what life is for most Chinese as most of them don't live in Tier 1 urban cities. Most of them try their very best to get into Tier1 cities but there are heavy restrictions on movement and you would have to move your family book or get a residence permit to be allowed to work in a city you were not born in. It is not like the West where you can just pick up your things move to a city and find work. You will have to go to the police to apply for permission to work in a different province or city.

    • @Oldbrow
      @Oldbrow 16 дней назад +1

      I don't want to say you're lying, but it's clear you don't quite understand the root cause of some of the measures in China, first of all, I don't know which province or city you're talking about that doesn't have electricity, and second of all, I think what you're talking about is the temporary residence permit system, which is not meant to restrict the movement of people, but for security purposes, anyone can work anywhere, But if you want to settle down long term you need to apply for a temporary residence permit, otherwise the local police may come to investigate, but if you explain the situation they will also get you a residence permit, which is also one of the documents to help you pay taxes and health insurance, where you work for the company is not under the control of the national government, unless you are going to work for a government department.

    • @zjeee
      @zjeee 16 дней назад

      @@Oldbrow Oh I totally understand why they have those measures in place, the average salary can be up to 10 times more in the major cities, if they don't put a limit and restrictions everyone will just flood the big cities and it will be overcrowded in no time. There is a reason why Beijing's official population numbers are not correct because there is a large migration population living there under the radar without residence permits. I know what it means to have a Hukou, I have a child with a Chinese woman and we had to renounce our daughter's Chinese citizenship because if she was Chinese we would have to send her to school where her mother's Hukou is which is not the city we live in.
      Many of my Chinese colleagues are jealous at me because my daughter is not Chinese anymore I can send her to school anywhere, I don't need a family book or own a house in the city. They are stuck in the city because if they leave they cannot bring their family with them unless they change their Hukou which can be very difficult depending on where you want to go. Good luck changing your Hukou to Beijing or Shanghai.
      We also have to travel to her hometown for any issue regarding me or my child like our visa applications and so on, they are very clear here - if your family book is not here it is not their responsibility and you have to go where your Hukou is. Also if you want to buy a home in certain provinces you are not able to unless your Hukou is there. Also about taxes and the social health insurance you don't have to worry too much about that. Most Chinese don't pay taxes and there are many ways for companies to avoid contributing to their social insurance. I have worked for several companies that report their employees salaries lower than their actual amount so they are not taxed and the amount the company needs to contribute to the social insurance is low.
      Just report your employers salary as 2000 then you give them the rest in cash, it happens everywhere except in the large companies where the government has more insight.
      If you read my comment about no electricity you would see I wrote on the Chinese countryside in VILLAGES, if you don't believe me go travel a bit around Yunnan and you will encounter many places like this.

    • @zjeee
      @zjeee 16 дней назад

      @@Oldbrow You are free to go to Yunnan province, plenty of volunteer opportunities to go to if you want to see villages without electricity that are in need of teachers. I have a child with a Chinese woman I know how the Hukou works and I do know you have to send your child to school where your Hukou is and how hard it can be to move it depending on which city you want to settle down in.

    Great Video!!! Pollution, poverty, dirtiness, and inferior product quality were all true for China 20 years ago so Western view is not totally false back then.
    BUT in all 4 areas China has turned things around- mostly through effective governance of CPC. In the past 15-20 years CPC government has been laser focused on improving China’s infrastructure (47000KM high speed rail), eliminating poverty ( no more absolute poverty since 2021), reducing pollution (via pushing EV adoption and green energy), developing advanced manufacturing (Made in China 2015 goals has 90% been achieved per Bloomberg ).
    I went back to China first time since 2019 and found 1st and 2nd tier cities I went are very clean, advanced, with good air quality. Cars (many of them EVs)are better looking than USA; People in many places are dressed similar to Japan and Korea cities ; and goods/foods/services are good quality and way cheater than the West. China is also one of the safest countries on earth which is hard to achieve given its size and population.
    China does not call themselves communist country- it’s a socialist country under CPC one party rule, with a mixed state-owned and private own economy (they call it socialistic market economy).

    China is a socialist country like Denmark or Norway with one party system, and it is no longer Mao communist with all men equal in wealth. That was the past. China is more capitalist than many Western countries but is under Chinese culture. They call it Capitalism with Chinese Characteristics.
    So, what are Chinese characteristics? In short, Confucianism was a philosophy that existed 2200 years ago during the peroid named Spring and Autumn. This period was a bloody warring period among many small states for 400 years. Besides Confucius, there were other philosophers like Tao. The outcome of the wars gave rise to an assertive, united China with philosophies running the country. This system was successful for the next 2200 years, with occasional failure. It has defined China and Asia to this day.
    In short, for the Westerner. This is a big open secret. Capitalism is put under the control and support of the (local) government. It is not the other way around, as we have in the US today. It is a less efficient form of Capitalism but a State focus and supports Capitalism. Why is Chinese Capitalism inefficient compared to Western Capitalism? What is the advantage of this inefficient Chinese thinking?
    It turns out that it is the basis of infrastructure building. China is building extra for growth and the future. Those surplus parts are examples of future development and speed, which is killing Western industries today. As a rich developing country like China, this works very well. She figures out her unfair advantage. There are other reasons for China's rise; its infrastructure is the best in the world.
