Bodycam Shows Police Tasing Armed Woman in Florida Walmart

- Bodycam video shows police tasing an armed woman in a Florida Walmart on Wednesday, March 30. Deputy Christopher Witte of the Marion County Sheriff's Office arrested 33-year-old Brandy McGowan for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, allegedly a knife. Deputy Witte repeatedly instructed the suspect the drop the weapon, but she ignored those commands and continued to make incoherent statements, according to reports. Deputy Witte deployed his taser at McGowan, making contact with her and successfully disarming her. Witte and Detective Thomas then detained McGowan in handcuffs. McGowan was transported to the hospital for evaluation and then to the Marion County Jail.

those things _really work_ when they connect. ahaha
The officer gave her many chances to simply drop that knife. Then, after her willful decision to not comply, he dropped her. Perfectly done. Thanks Officers.
Drop it, or be dropped.
Nice, you watched the video.
🥾 😋
Great outcome but it definitely wasn't perfectly done. The two cops didn't coordinate at all, which led to both of them pulling non lethals out. At the end, nobody had an actual gun pointed at her just two tasers
@@tomtucker4157 because tasers don’t already beat knife?
I like how at the end she asks the cops, “Are you kidnapping me?” Yes girl, totally. But in the real world, we call this an arrest.
I noticed that too. It reminds me of my Mom's dementia, which this lady may be suffering from. The mind can play terrible tricks on you. It's so sad. I'm glad they were able to apprehend her w/o anyone getting hurt.
Update: I've been told by @Some Rando that this woman's dementia was meth induced and she has kidnapping on her own rap sheet. Regardless, I'm still glad the police were able to apprehend her without bloodshed. I hope she can get clean and get the help she needs and be a better person.

She's super lucky she didn't make an aggressive move before the officer had an opportunity to switch to non-lethal force. Props to the officer for handling it the way he did.
Nothing funnier than a good, well deserved tasing
The officer gave her exactly 30 warnings. No-one can say that he wasn't being fair while still being extremely cautious. Just so sad. What is going on with people today??
Tazers can be unreliable. Hes smart for trying to get the knife out of her hands first. Hes very level headed dealing with a dangerous uncompliant. Forget about whether hes fair on not, this was a knife wielder he was dealing with.
People know the country is imploding and are acting out.
Perceived "special" status. This only happens when you think you're specially entitled to different treatment to everyone else.
She was waiting for him to tell her 31 times, then she’d comply🤔🤔
Clear case of excessive force😉😉🤣🤣
Orders, he shouted the same order at her thirty times.
This proves why body cams are needed. It doesn't only catch the corrupted cops, but it also protects good cops like this guy. Without this evidence, could you imagine how much more difficult his life could be after using the tazer?
He’s not gonna get in trouble for tazing someone with a knife….it’s killing/lethal force that people go crazy over
@@HuheJass if I remember correctly the officer was holding the lady at gunpoint until backup arrived. If the other officer had their firearm out then that gives the officer with the body cam to switch to non-lethal. Now if the women tried to attack the officer when he had his taser out then the other officer would have to shoot the women with the knife. I'm only saying this off of what I remember so if I said anything wrong feel free to correct me.
@@itzyoboydex nope I think you’re right! He doesn’t switch until he knows the other officer has a gun on her, at which point he switches to taser, gives her one last warning, and drops her like the brick she was threatening people with before lol

This is the weirdest Wal-mart commercial I have ever seen.
In Australia there was a very similar situation involving a 95 year old woman who would not drop the knife. Police tasered the old lady and she died a few days after being taken down.

The fact that there are actually people in this comment section saying the cop didn’t handle the situation properly and he should have “de-escalated” the situation blows my mind. Telling a psycho in a Walmart that’s threatening people with a knife 25 times to drop it is more than sufficient. Easy to complain how he handled this when you’re watching it through a screen. Try being the cop.

U would've killed her?
Repeating a command rather than trying to deescalate the situation? Yeah, patience. That's what it must be.
@@tommygaga7117 the tazer deescalated the situation quite successfully. The police officer just shouldn't have to repeat the command to drop the knife more than once. By doing that, he displayed 103 seconds more patience than I would have.
He's wrong. Repeating the same command over and over again makes the person less obedient. He needs more training. Not shaming him, just saying. I get he's a nice person, but you must act before things escalate. Sometimes tazers fail, some people are so high on drugs and alcohol, or mentally ill that they can withstand even a bullet to their head.
The policeman - his patience is amazingly rock-solid. ⭐

Its part of protocol
@@rookie693 which is my point…
Well, in other countries cops would not need to switch to the tazer at it would be what they initiate with, not a potentially leathal firearm
@@19Frank12 well it’s smarter to use the more effective weapon to deter any more bad decisions from the perpetrator, and to also prevent harm to anyone else close by. Tasers are unreliable
@@epicasassin8375 In a situation where nobody was harmed but you seem to have an armed person in an undefined irregular psychocologial state the police's task is not to kill them but to prevent or minimize harm done to anybody, including the armed woman. I do not see how preparing to shoot a firearm in a crowded area like Walmart would achieve that. Tazers might sometimes be unreliable but just like guns, which can clog, they are regularly examined by the police and you expect them to work. That argument makes no sense as you are basically saying I'd rather want to be sure to shoot the person than risk to fail in solving the confrontation with non-lethal force. Entering a confrontation with the highest escalation level will largely increase the risk of violence. Pointing a gun at somebody will make you their enemy while negotiating and still being able to incapacitate them will make cooperation more likely. Police is supposed to enforce public safety for everybody, not to eliminate confused and potentially dangerous individuals. There is enough footage of police in other countries defusing confrontations with gunmen or other armed persons without any violence, or non-lethal violence like batons, peppers pray or tazers. Almost all of these countries have lower crime rate, lower incarceration rate and lower casualties on both sides compared to the US. Seems to be working. And don't get me wrong. A (trained at least) attacker with a knife is extremely dangerous, especially at close range and I sure would want to ensure I'm getting out alive. But that's true no matter what I wield and claiming that immediately going for lethal force would be the right decision is irrational
He asked her 25 times (yes, I counted) before he tazed her to drop or put down the knife. Then once after he tazed her for good measure. I'd say she was sufficiently warned.

This is why bodycams should be readily available and deleting or closing it should be prosecuted it not only protects civilians but officers
I remember speaking to my friends uncle who is an officer probably 7 years ago or so about body cams. He told us the problems he had with them were that the battery didn't last a full shift so you couldn't leave them on and that they took a few minutes to actually turn on and start recording, I'm not sure if that is still the case or not.
They were at Walmart anyways they got a million cameras in there lmao
@@jcarver69mmm interesting but I would imagine in 7 years they've made improvements but who knows
@@hibarikyoya854 I think the issue is the cost it'd take to equip every officer in the country with a *high quality* body cam. Especially with idiots fighting to defund them.
@@jcarver69 sure it’s a problem solved by a trigger on your belt equipment. If you forget the video will turn on automatically if you unclasp your sidearm or taser. Another thing is to have dispatch monitor it. If your on the scene with your camera off you get a warning and they remotely trigger it

As one who has been in the military, worked as a prison guard and security guard I find the police officer in this video MORE than waited patiently, deliberately focusing on this person with a knife who was a threat to not just the policeman but anyone in the store! Still holding the non lethal saying things like “what’s going on? What’s the problem? Are you okay?” And stuff speaking to her, and I think shouldn’t have come in yelling esp once there were no civilians right around her, but I don’t blame the cop because we don’t even teach almost any deescalation tactics here like they do in other countries. Overall he did a pretty good job. I think making sure she wasn’t deaf or has a heart condition would be good before gazing but it doesn’t sound like she was deaf. But yeah this is prbly in the top 5% in terms of deescalation in the videos I’ve seen from America.
Pointing a gun at someone and shouting is hardly a de-escalation attempt. She was just standing there not being visibly aggressive. If this officer’s EQ was higher than 50, he would have asked her nicely and probably gotten what he asked for, before pointing his gun at her face.
@@brachson I think it was a tazer. At least it wasnt a gun. I have pretty low standards as an American lol. For an American cop, they are taught NOT to deescalate in training. it's not a bad job for an American cop. Many would just come out shooting or ask once then shoot.

Even worse, some people edit those videos and release them just to get a reaction from people. With a body cam, the entire situation including what lead to the escalation is recorded. And the police will only release it with the full context. There have been times when even news agencies edit out parts of the video that shows a suspect holding a knife. Sean reed livestreamed himself running from police on facebook, leading to him getting shot after dropping his phone/camera while running away. People were outraged that police shot an unarmed back man that was running away. The media fanned the flames for weeks until police investigation uncovered that he drive by shot into peoples houses for fun, that for 3 frames in his video you can see his gun in his waistband, and that in the cops body cam he literally died shooting at police. I'm not saying that recording police is bad, but it is nowhere near as good or unbiased as police bodycams. There are countless times I've seen people recording police, screaming at them that the man they're holding at gunpoint and trying to arrest did nothing wrong. When in actuality they're doing a felony traffic stop, where they know the guy is dangerous and likely armed. Because they know who they're arresting and are looking for him specifically, or they just ran his plates. Or the guy had just finished running away from a previous crime and the police caught up to him. Don't even get me started about 3 recording bystanders screaming "HE ISN'T RESISTING," when 3 cops combined effort can't even get the guys hands behind his back. It just plays on your feelings to make a situation look way worse than it is.
Until they turn them off when it suits them.
I don't see many more better ways this officer could've handled the situation. Well done.
She didn’t dropped the knife but she sure dropped like a bag of potatoes ounce taser was deployed
I personally think he should have pulled the taser out first since it's pretty irresponsible to aim a gun at something you don't fully intend to shoot, other than that he handled the situation perfectly
@@colbstinator no back up and tasers don’t always work. If he fires the taser while she rushes at him and one of the pins miss, now he has to pull out his firearm while she is already swiping a knife at him.
She had a deadly weapon, he was alone, so he had his firearm drawn.
100% justified.
@@colbstinator it's a fair point, but i think the officer needed the weapon out incase the psychotic lady ran at him with that knife.
As soon as the other officers arrived and the lady looked away, he felt it was safe to place his pistol back and switch out for the taser.
@@XxThePh4ntomxX I thought about that, and that's fair, but even with a taser out he still would have had the upper hand. If she ran at him, tase her, she's down. If she had a gun at her side, that would've been a whole different story, I would choose to have my gun out instead of my taser in that situation. You tase a person with a gun, they could tense up and pull the trigger
Quelle patience le policier ! Bravo !
That ended real well good job officer
Her last brain cell: "Yall kidnapping me?" ._.

Not only was she a Florida women, but also at Walmart, and holding a knife. The most dangerous combo. Also the way she fell over after getting tasered was really satisfying for some reason lol
lol
TIMBER
She fell like a domino😂
😂
Thumbnail was the most hilarious thing
She really thinks she’s the main character
Never a dull moment at Walmart
1:50 I love how she was unaware of the officer exchanging his hand gun to the tazer, while the female officer kept her distracted...and he got the job done without injuries...well done 👍
Well duh, they don't enjoy shooting women like her as much as they like sl@ught€ring others.
Anybody seeing this and other similar videos still thinking “Defund the police” is still a good option - needs their brain examined!
Wish it was always this smooth and according to plan!!
Yeah that was smooth.
Shes lucky she gave him time to do that.
It always has baffled me how someone can be standing in a Walmart, holding a knife, people running from the area, and two police officers pointing guns at you and yelling at you, and you don’t have the awareness to realize that you are in the wrong. It simply doesn’t make sense to me.
Allow me to introduce you to: drugs

Mental illness is powerful. Absolutely disturbed but police did well in not shooting her. She needs treatment not jail.

That man had all the patience in the world, he did everything he was supposed to do and then some. I hope we can all agree this is the proper procedure. Good on him for being a good example
Ah a member of the D clan in the comments I see
If the taser failed she probably would have quickly moved and the other officer would have shot her. She was so lucky that the taser worked.

Cops have the patience of saints. I would have just shot her after the fifth time saying “drop the knife.”
In her defense, she looked like she was stuck in a K-hole and operating at about 5% of normal speed so she wasn't exactly an imminent threat.
“So you are kidnapping me?”
I have a feeling she doesn’t know what a cop is.
I have a feeling she doesn't even know what planet shes on.
@@Treshar i have a feeling she dosen't enen know anything.

Such an entitled queen, she complains on top to what she did
She was like “is this the part where you take advantage of me” as if this was some kind of sick game lol
"drop the knife"... it's a very simple instruction. This is a good example of correct Taser deployment.
Respect
The way she starred at him like a soulless zombie was disturbing. But also, the way she reacted and fell when she got tased was hilarious and I am not sorry for laughing hysterically 🤣
@Victor Conrad I'm so glad someone said it! I actually rewinded it to laugh again! 😆 She definitely seemed like she was asking for it.
I laugh at vehicles vs pedestrians videos. I think you're fine.
LOL
...and the comment while being cuffed, "Now you're kidnapping me too?"
@@timothywalker801 so edgy, dude. How many scars do you have?
She woke up saying “I’m gonna get tased for no benifit of my own today” and boy did she accomplish her goals. Inspiring.
Doubtful. The description of the video talks about how she was making incoherent statements. She is likely suffering from mental health issues, like many people around the world are. But it is easier to make arm-chair statements about people you have never met versus acknowledging the issues they are facing.
Wrong! She actually woke saying I'm gonna wear shorts 5 sizes too small where they can't even zip up an inch 😂 followed with a bit of pondering how she's gonna get tased .

the ploice man had a patience to persuade her ........to drop her knife down...respect !!
I've never seen someone be given so many chances to drop a weapon before
Neither have I
My thought too. How many times did he say "drop it" or "put it down" before he finally tased her?! Usually I see them say it once or twice, the person tries to put it down, then they tase them anyway.
@@DSDaly i assume he was waiting for back up so she didn't charge while he switched
He had a gun on her and there were people down the isle. She wasn't moving or swinging it but if she had then he would if had to fire. Luckily he could switch to tazer when backup arrived.
Women power
"Drop the knife, put it down".....repeated 100 times.
This cop had some serious patience with this one.
I know. As a child my mother said it once, then the belt. The way she fell was 🤣. Glad no one was hurt
The other cop had flats. Maybe we need to give cops a more lax environment so they can think better. Don't take my idea politicians. And if you do... patent pending.
I think this cop is a robot. no cops in my country ever repeat like thousand times after a criminal not obeying lol.
@@gigasflare He had to, in order to allow time for backup to arrive.
I think after the 12th time I'd mix it up a bit. Maybe "Drop the knife and we can talk." "What's going on?", "Why do you have a knife". "There is no good ending here while that knife is in your hand.", "We can't help you while you're holding that knife.", "If there is a problem, let us help you. But first you need to put that knife on the ground". You know... because if you told her to drop the knife 12 times and she hasn't... a 13th - 100th repeat is not going to make a difference. :| Other than that, yeah, kudos to the cop who handled this well.
LOLOL I love that the main action is within 3 sec
