The thing about 100 man kumite is that after 1 guy, you're fine. After a few, blocking starts to hurt. That's the major factor, fighting through fatigue and fighting through the fact that after a while, even protecting yourself is painful. But this is highly impressive.
Brief translation. Today, we will start the 5th 100 men kumite. It’s a lonely fight. However, I believe that there is man’s romanticism and value in fighting. Please complete this 100 men kumite no matter what, and create the firm foundation towards the world tournament.
Always i try to understand the people that focus in the negatives aspects, without understand karate is a way of life. The way to deliver the techniques and to teach, and the approach of kumite is particular for every style, and that doesnt mean is bad or wrong. Respect, respect the way others do the stuff, because when you dont understand that meaning you have to bow your head, and reconigze your ignorance, and show respect.
Very impressive. I know one Aussie guy who went through 100 fights kumite. I think in this competiotion you can know more about yourself, something that you didn't know before.
I love the way he is quite caring for the people he has kicked in the head etc. Shows that he's not in it for the violence or competitiveness, purely as a test to himself.
He's sparring 100 people, not fighting them. He's not doing some Japanese version of Taken where he needs to kill everything with a pulse. You're specifically not supposed to go all-out in sparring. The impressive part is the ridiculous amount of stamina he displays to get through 100 sparring matches while doing something resembling martial arts at the end of it.
Masuda is very good. That 99th guy (46:22) was really hitting him hard and have no mercy on Masuda -- including accidentally kicked him in the balls. I know they are not supposed to go too easy on the challengers, but that guy really goes full force and full speed. If everyone goes full force like that, then I don't think anyone could have last more than 20 rounds like that.. I mean. The 100th guy obviously was holding back compared to the 99th guy.
Yeah, I was thinking that too lol having two fresh guys going full force at the end could result in KO xd So I guess he offbalanced by going easy on him
I see what you're saying. I think when they went from the description of the film, somehow, I was stuck thinking that, it was an all out fight from person 1 to 100. To this credit, it's kind of between a spar and fight due to no protective gears and they are throwing their punches and kicks pretty hard. It's not a full on fight, I don't see any direct punches to the face, kicks yes. It's more like a fight marathon of test of will. Masuda earns his respect and it's not an easy task to complete.
That cute little lady standing in the background through most of this is so concerned and almost scared looking :( I just want to comfort her and tell her everything is going to be OK lol.
Kumite means "sparring". These are not actual fights. The art of sparring is one of 3 main disciplines of the art. Sparring 100 people is a feat in itself.
Kumite literally means "meeting of hands" in Japanese, but of course that the term Kumite is widely used as a way of describing the act of fighting or sparring.
its a matter of endurance and strength, its purpose is to try and see if you can last that long and stay standing that long, remember that if you reach the 100th man then that mans you just fought 99 and the last man you are going to fight is a fresh opponent while you have been running out of oxygen hours ago.
One thing I realized by watching the 100 Kumite videos is that the only men whoever passed it were substantially larger than their opponents. Masuda and looks about twice the size than the majority of the other karateka he was up against, and that gives him a HUGE advantage. Not discrediting him in any way shape or form, I just find it interesting.
its more like an endurance training but your correct its not like they are trying to actually beat him its not like in Randori where they try to actually take you to the ground
This is kyoshin (full contact fighting) not sparring. I am a big fan of Bruce Lee but he most likely never competed in these full contact maches. He competed in kata, board breaking and light point sparing mathces

Not what I anticipated. I expected a higher degree of intensity. I understand it's a test of one's self, but if it were me I would want to make my opponent(s) unable to fight, as quickly as possible. I don't know much about their tradition with the 100 man fight; I just feel that that is how I would have liked to have gone about it.
I don't doubt this is EXHAUSTING AF. That being said, they should have made it a number of fights that someone could do, while going all out and being attacked all out. Could one man. even fight 15 people all out?
MuayThai Latino If I were you and wanted to train to fight 100 men at once I'd go for utilizing the best techniques from a variety of martial arts, like kicks and kneekicks from Muay Thai, throws of judo, punches from boxing etc.. as well as training your body to the extreme.
A boxer will be incapable of standing after the first 3 leg kicks. You think they would fight with their hands down in a fight where punching the head is allowed. You ever heard of Andy Hug? I dont think I saw too many boxers becoming prominent K1 fighters.
Can you wear a mouth guard in tournament fights? I haven't seen guys do it... No one can say I dont have balls because im willing to fight and take an axe kick to the face, I just dont want to pay 3k to replace my teeth afterward.
I mean no disrespect to the fighters, and I know I could not last through an anythingth of the kumite, but... what's the point? Having watched real fights with energy to them, this comes across as a slow play.

He fought for so long that camera's invented colour
hahahha!
It's more about the endurance to get hit by 100 people full contact, rather than "winning" like in competition.
Yes
Unless your sosai haha

A tough man much respect. This is the true sign of a warrior sometimes it is not about how much punishment you dish out but how much you can take!
Well said
This is certainly impressive, and damn, it's astounding how quickly he downed some of his opponents, his striking is fierce, that's for sure.

a huge respect for this man. man made of steel. oss!!!!
It is mesmerising to watch Masuda Akira's 100 Man Kumite.
I love the way he is quite caring for the people he has kicked in the head etc. Shows that he's not in it for the violence or competitiveness, purely as a test to himself.
Man, we struggle with 10 to 15 man kumite for our green belt exams. This is insanely impressive. Osu !!

TheCheshireLion incorrect! People are getting injured here and tko'd! Even sparring when done full force is fighting!!! This is real!!!
Lucky people to be graded by Kancho Mas Oyama himself! Masuda one of a kind....! Oss!

If you can defeat more than 3 fighters in a row that is great! But 100 now that is incredible!
I see what you're saying. I think when they went from the description of the film, somehow, I was stuck thinking that, it was an all out fight from person 1 to 100. id like to see ppl take a so called "tap" to their ribs and says it doesnt hurt.... and then times that by a 100....lol
That cute little lady standing in the background through most of this is so concerned and almost scared looking :( I just want to comfort her and tell her everything is going to be OK lol.
From what I heard, his kidneys were injured and he had to stay in the hospital after that.
He ruptured his spleen!
I can see why he was up to the challenge, he's damn good
Super
imagine getting kicked in the balls after 99 fights

Are more black belts awarded upon successful completion of the 100-men kumite?

the most serious fighter was the 99th
the 100 fighters fought much more aggressively than the 100 who fought with Judd Reid
One thing I realized by watching the 100 Kumite videos is that the only men whoever passed it were substantially larger than their opponents. Judd Reid is short and he passed it
Nope he is actually 170-180 cm or so
+hmpf Matsui? average size for japan
after this kumite, masuda admitted to hospital and he almost die. but he recovered.
maximian anderson How you know that?
Japanese Wikipedia.and I saw video that Mas Oyama visited hospital where Masuda Akira stay.
Do you have a link to the video?
I saw it last week and title is Russian.masuda had kidney failure and he almost died.check in Japanese Wikipedia.
But i dont read japanese, ok thanks.
a boxer wouldn't chance bare fisted against 100 men, 2 minutes each and 1 minute to rest a piece.
that's 3 hours and some change
Those lightning fast leg sweeps
Love all the jikuashi geri
That’s funny, I used to do karate when I was like 7 and I learned today that my sensei, Sensei Ligo, is the 7th guy in this video 🤩
He made mas oyoama very proud
its more like an endurance training but your correct its not like they are trying to actually beat him its not like in Randori where they try to actually take you to the ground
definition of a warrior. OSU
OSS x1000
True. I did not mean to imply I thought it was some sort of Matrix II Neo vs. Smith fight. I assumed it was a series.
that 99th guy kicked matsuda akira groin.how come he didnt wear groin cup?
matsuda akira almost died because of 100 man kumite.
25:00 that is a bad*ss move. love it
It must be weeks before you can breathe and walk normal after taking a beating like that.
Please someone translate what Oyama's saying at the beginning.
I guess Mr 99Th didn't last long after Masuda went out of the hospital XD
Osu!!! Grand respect!
we dont know unless we try right? :)
Better than bruce lee sparring! He really knocking people out! This is real no gear too. 😲

Hey, he said it, not me.
This is a marathon not a 100 metre dash. Go at it hammer and tongs and you'll be face-down and exhausted by the 4th fight!
You should all research what Kyokushin is before you make any assumptions.

I'm confused. What exactly were you expecting? An octagon and bikini girls?
Bikini girls after you win. Giving you a hot massage
I barely survived a 5 man kumite 100 thats amazing..OSU !!
32:26 arm bite
I can only say that when I 組み手 or Kumite 十人目 or 10 men after the 5th or 6th person all over my body was hurting. Osu
so, muay thai, can any of you do the same?
Alex Leather Well it's a whole nother story with Muay Thai, but I'm sure in a real fight a practiser of Muay Thai could beat a rampaging oppoment.
without elbows and punches to the face maybe buakaw I cant can you?
so as soon as I practise Karate I can fight 100 man ?
That would be interesting actually. If only he'd do it. He's fucking ferocious.
Alex Leather is an asshole though.

Nr. 9 Judd Reid
He really has very good techniques and calm! Started from 25 people I can see that they start going very hard on him!
kumite looks easy; until you realize those aren't white belts around their waists
standing for 4hours is hard enough xd
12:31 Good showmanship
Can you wear a mouth guard in tournament fights? I haven't seen guys do it... No one can say I dont have balls because im willing to fight and take an axe kick to the face, I just dont want to pay 3k to replace my teeth afterward.
Mouth gaurds are "optional"
In low level tournaments people might laugh at you though. I still wear one.
20:02 fathers on graduation day
Amazing.
00:20 who is?
0:40 is this Mr. Miyagi??!!
Mas Oyama (founder of kyokushin), ironically he trained under Chojun Miyagi (founder of goju ryu, and inspiration for Mr.Miyagi)
someone needs to do a 300man kumite
Mas Oyama did it he fought 3 consecutive 100 man kumites over 3 days.
Show proof of oyama doin 300 man
realect 🙏

They are barely tickling him.
I invite you to do the 100 man kumite, it will so easy for you to succeed since all they do is "tickle".
Mankou Mohammed Saad You misunderstood my comment.
I understand it now x) and yes you're right they're not doing much to him
1 question. Don ´t mean this disrespectful !!!
Isn´t it quite a shame to loose against sum1 that just fought like 50 70 99 People?
Loose what?
Very unrealistic fight - no punches to the face. They are totally open and without skills to protect head
Game theorist...
Yeah, Gaijin goomba! Game exange!
tough stuff, but so many little opponents!
FUCKING GOD
Una buffonata
Osu!
I was expecting the event that Cracked described. Feel free to read my words more slowly if they're confusing.
Are they not allowed to punch each other? boring.
