I interviewed Luis for an episode for my podcast, Imaginary Music and it’ll air on 3/21/22. So it didn’t even hit me that the guy playing the cop is Del Shannon, the man who wrote and performed this song! He was full of great stories.
See, I knew I wasn't crazy. I remember watching this one Saturday morning when I was a kid back in the 80s. Thanks for posting this. Great song and video.
I've been looking for this since the late 80s too! Vaguely remembered the dinosaurs and only remembered his name being of Spanish/Latin background when I saw the video thumbnail. I think I may still have this video recorded on an old Betamax tape in storage.
So many damn memories from the 80's with this song, alongside Twisted Sister, Motley Crue et al - great days. The kids today don't know how unlucky they really are to be living in a world without the hope for the future that WE had back in the day.....
UN-BELIEVABLE! I saw this video just once, when it aired for the first time years ago, and haven't seen it since... Until now! Props to the OP for this, as I couldn't even guess the artist behind this. Now It's found again & will be enjoyed... again and again!
Buenisimo!!! no entiendo como este señor no fue tan famoso como Phill Collins o Don Henly o tal vez lo fue pero no llegó su fama a mi país... 20 años esperando encontrar este video Dios mio!!!
the special effects on this video, along with donny osmond, del shannon and all the others make it like a michael jackson video or something. that was such a kewl time for music!
Been looking for this for years and would have never guessed who sung it. Absolutely loved this song and Vid back in the day, even then I thought it was pretentious, out of sync and scratchy animated...but hell when you're a kid it all seemed wonderful...thanks for uploading this...whoever you are!
Wow! Just found this. All I remember was a drummer singing runaway and I could not remember who sang it. Brings me back to some good memories. Thanks for posting it.
Im happy to read the comments, because we were kids when this came up and was so fun to see and admire the music, I spent a lot of time searching for this video too, when I asked some buddies they just said "you´re crazy... a dinosaur playing the drums? you were dreaming... hahahaha...!! we were happy in the 80s, wonderful music, wonderful people...
I remember watching this video in science class back in 1990. We were learning about dinosaurs at the time, and the teacher being a musician himself thought it would be cool to show us this video. I've often since that time, thought about this video but never thought Id find it. Great memories though.
Never saw this until today, WOW!!! Will always love the original version, but this definitely ties with it…maybe being an 80’s kid, every bit of it is wonderful from the treatment of the song to the video….LOVE IT!!!!! ⚡️💜⚡️
That was back in 1986, best summer I never forget, from summer school to watching MTV videos. Was my full last summer till I started working from 1987 till now.
I saw this video once as a little kids and loved it! Never saw it again until now. I didn't notice back in the day, but Luis Cardenas was a real hottie
OH MY.. Been searching for this for a long time.. didnt know the name of the artist or the song just some of the lyrics and blah blah blah..finally got here..Wow.. THANK YOU..
I remember Entertainment Tonight doing a piece on him as he was set to perform on the world's biggest drum set for that era, He was doing warm-ups on a drum kit made of ice.
Finally i found my childhood song 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😍😍 listening to this gives me chills and reminding me when i was 8 lipsyncing to these dinos 😂😂😂😂 take me back 20 years
It's taken me so long to track this down. All I could remember was the guy was a drummer who did a 50's cover and I thought there were muppets or puppets in the video, and I originally saw it on Raw Power in the 80's. Not much to go on but I found it and it's still awesome!
My wonderful male friend told me today about this wonderful video! It is very entertaining! Thanks for telling me about it Bob! The aliens are really cool!
+Andy Star - I saw this video for the first time tonight, after starting to learn the track on guitar, the tab made reference to Luis' version. Recognised Del straight off and reminded me that, for some reason, Del hated his Crime Story version of this great song! Shame, as I loved that version and thought Del's vocals, up to that point, were amazing; and thanks to Jeff Lynne, they just got better. Great video, great version!
I remember this on the early days of 80s music video before MTV was added to my lineup so you could only see music videos on HBOs video jukebox show. That show disappeared, never saw this video again. Then I got MTV!
that cop was Del Shannon - the original singer of Runaway.
Cool!
WOW Didn't know that!
Del Shannon is old n Luis is a newbie during the 80's so this not sound in the the 50's ain't it.. lolz
i thought it was Ron Howard at first!
That's awesome
Holy Crap! I can't believe I found this..this is like finding the Golden Unicorn lol
HOLY CRAP!!!! :D
Ha ha ha, I find it now...
That video is incredible, ha ha ha
Damn what a laugh I had now :D
I was looking for so long time ago....OMG!!!! This is for my future family! !!!
I've been looking for this for years but didn't know what it was called. Finally a search for "dinosaur walking around in a trench coat" led me here!
Hahahahaha you so right damn I dont even know how many years it's been but yeah finally found it
Tuvieron que más de 30 años para volver a ver este video.... Años buscándolo ufffff
Bro este sin mentirte tu comentario era lo que IVA a escribir wow
Remember watching this video all the time on Nick Rocks
The dinosaurs are by the Chiodo Bros. They also wrote, produced, directed, and did the FX for Killer Clowns from Outer Space.
I interviewed Luis for an episode for my podcast, Imaginary Music and it’ll air on 3/21/22. So it didn’t even hit me that the guy playing the cop is Del Shannon, the man who wrote and performed this song! He was full of great stories.
im too happy to have found this music video.
Even in 2023 this video is so cool to show him with dinosaurs it's awesome
In my memory they were cats. Mandela effect.
See, I knew I wasn't crazy. I remember watching this one Saturday morning when I was a kid back in the 80s. Thanks for posting this. Great song and video.
Me, too!
Dude i thought I was losing it too. I can reclaim my sanity now!
1984
At 29 Palms in the Turtle club watching this video, good memories!
I was in my 20s but I had my reasons for doubting if this ever happened :)
I been looking for this video for years, I remember when it premiered on MTV back in the day.
Luckly I recorded this from the MTV2 A to Z marathon on aVHS tape.
I worked with him at home depot. Great humble guy
25 years ive been looking for this fuck I love RUclips
so have I ghostwraith76, so have I :)
+ghostwraith76 I've been looking for it, too!!! Loved my childhood and growing up in the '80's such a simpler time and full of amazing times!!!!
I've been looking for this since the late 80s too! Vaguely remembered the dinosaurs and only remembered his name being of Spanish/Latin background when I saw the video thumbnail. I think I may still have this video recorded on an old Betamax tape in storage.
I remember seeing this on MTV. The two boys I took care of loved this music video because it had dinosaurs in it and it made them laugh.
The cop is Del Shannon....nice touch.
I love Del's cameo.
I love you
So many damn memories from the 80's with this song, alongside Twisted Sister, Motley Crue et al - great days.
The kids today don't know how unlucky they really are to be living in a world without the hope for the future that WE had back in the day.....
I have been looking for this vid for ages. Last saw it back in the Eighties.
I was maybe five years old when I first saw this way back in the 80s! It blew my little dinosaur-obsessed mind!
Lol same
I've been looking for this video for so long, finally found it!
UN-BELIEVABLE! I saw this video just once, when it aired for the first time years ago, and haven't seen it since... Until now!
Props to the OP for this, as I couldn't even guess the artist behind this. Now It's found again & will be enjoyed... again and again!
Yo tenía 6 años y junto a mi tío viendo MTV mire este vídeo y ya hace más de 30 años hoy lo vuelto a ver wow
"MAKE AMERICA THE 80'S AGAIN"
I was just thinking something like that. When artists were trying to have fun and put a smile on an audience's face.
@Practical Skeptic , I turned 11 in 1970, but I will agree 60s and 70s best decade ever
Finally, a political agenda I can get behind
No, thanks. You can keep your Reagan.
Please do!!!! I wouldn't argue.
Buenisimo!!! no entiendo como este señor no fue tan famoso como Phill Collins o Don Henly o tal vez lo fue pero no llegó su fama a mi país... 20 años esperando encontrar este video Dios mio!!!
Not only is that del Shannon, but it's Donny osmond in the window calling the cops
Great cover of this song and the video was Genesis, Luis Cardenas is a super cool guy 🤘😎🤘
I miss the energy and creativity of music videos like this
I used to watch this on Nick Rocks. I'll take this over any of the Jurassic movies any day,
the special effects on this video, along with donny osmond, del shannon and all the others make it like a michael jackson video or something. that was such a kewl time for music!
I was wondering if it was Donny Osmond, but I just wasn't too sure. Nevertheless...it is a great song! And I love the video too!
When someone told me there were dinosaurs in this video, I thought they were being metaphorical at first...
Tyle lat szukałem tego clipu. SUPER WYKONANE. Szacunek dla Luisa Cardenasa
Been looking for this for years and would have never guessed who sung it. Absolutely loved this song and Vid back in the day, even then I thought it was pretentious, out of sync and scratchy animated...but hell when you're a kid it all seemed wonderful...thanks for uploading this...whoever you are!
Right with you. Loved it then, love it now . . . a cool cover.
Me too saw it first on Saturday morning kids tv and never after until now the 80s were amazing.
No matter what we were doing, my younger brother and I would stop and watch this video every time it came on. It was those rocking dinosaurs.
Just discovered this awesome this awesome song and video in 2022. Cant beat the 80's!
Wow! Just found this. All I remember was a drummer singing runaway and I could not remember who sang it. Brings me back to some good memories. Thanks for posting it.
I could swear that Del Shannon is the one playing the cop.
It is Del Shannon never noticed that until now
That *is* Del Shannon playing the cop.
MegaMuzikmaniac . Donny Osmond is in there too .
It is the Legend himself
That's a badass set of drums!

Luis Cardenas has the world's largest drum set.
No, Mark Temperato does
@@CharlesWalker-ji1rl Not even close! Check out Terry Bozzio!
@@mickpatay6634 Mark has 813 pieces in his kit, remember? Terry has about 100.
@@CharlesWalker-ji1rl Either way, I would hate to be their drum tech!! LOL!!
Last time I saw this video was around 13. 45 now. Still awesome.
I wasn't sure whether I really saw this as a kid in the Eighties or it was just a fever dream.
I thought it was part of my imagination too
That was back in 1986, best summer I never forget, from summer school to watching MTV videos. Was my full last summer till I started working from 1987 till now.
Cool video and song with dinosaurs
This is a remake that for its time was as good as the original.
I need to find the version without the dino noises.
Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Google Music.
I saw this video once as a little kids and loved it! Never saw it again until now. I didn't notice back in the day, but Luis Cardenas was a real hottie

Луис! Я слушала разные каверы этой песни.Ваш - лучший!
Man I use to love this song still do man great job God bless us all
The new Luis Cardenas album has lots of guest stars on it from photos I've seen on his label's fb page.
I know the lead guitarist, he still performs. His name is Kenny Marquez, find him in the Inland Empire of CA!
ask him to make a solo lesson for this song...that would rule
That was NOT Kenny Marquez. It's Craig Jones. Kenny Marquez was in the band Renegade.
I think it's cool how the dinosaurs change to look like rock stars🙏🙏🙏👍👍
Been looking for this for so long but couldn't remember the name of the artist! Excellent upload, many thanks.
Great video!!!!!!
great cover from Del Shannon. Del Shannon is the policeman in this video
+Andy Star - I saw this video for the first time tonight, after starting to learn the track on guitar, the tab made reference to Luis' version. Andy Star . Donny Osmond is in there as well.
I really miss stop-motion animation. With today's CGI, it's not needed anymore. But it was so wonderful.
Wew.. Found this. So cool
That's a mighty big drum solo.
PERFECTO.!!!!
Second comment on this video. This really epitomises the 80s dawn of video tv channels. Music Box MTV etc. Brilliant 👍😊
it is and the cop is Del Shannon
I love these kind of videos about living ina fantazy and then coming back to reality (like she wolf by shakira)
It was! :D
FFS i'm 53 and randomly searched for this... feel 18 again lolol
I remember this video from when I was at home watching Sesame Street! I've been looking for it for years.
god, i love this video! i don't remember where i first saw it.
The cop at the end of the video IS Del Shannon.
This is the greatest thing ever.
I remember this on the early days of 80s music video before MTV was added to my lineup so you could only see music videos on HBOs video jukebox show. That show disappeared, never saw this video again. Then I got MTV!
I haven't seen this video since I was a kid.
