Ooooo…..as SCAD alumni I feel like I’m going to comment…strap in because I have feelings:
I can absolutely attest to the practices there. Before I started SCAD I met an alum who said she had graduated from 4 different colleges including SCAD and she refused to acknowledge SCAD in any way. My mind didn’t make the connection to not go and now I’m stuck with PTSD and student loans out the ass. I now really don’t engage and the thing that I went to school for that I absolutely adored. Every time I have flashbacks of being ridiculed at SCAD, I can no longer do my job. The only good thing to come from going to SCAD was me finding my best friend there. Please note that she is not working in her intendant field either. In fact, no one that I know is working in their field. The only time you work in your field is if the professors already liked you coming into the school. People who I know are brilliantly and insanely talented aren’t working in their fields; it is such a disservice and a dishonor to the beautiful artist they have at the school. There is terrible terrible favoritism and nepotism. Please note that if you have a scholarship you WILL lose it at some point!! The school is meant for people who have $51,000 to just blow randomly on things like equestrian studies because you don’t have anything else to do.
The professors try to break you and they succeed. I’ve walked out of class before due to just plain vile stuff that was said about my work. So many students kill themselves (it’s a HUGE problem), drop out, or graduate but either can’t work in the field or never find anything. There is no positive criticism; I was yelled at for trying to encourage my fellow students because we stay up all hours of the night every night just drawing and working to perfect our craft only to be told that it’s trash. Art is completely subjective but the stance that they take will always be negative. I STAYED UP FOR THREE DAYS STRAIGHT PAINTING LITTLE TINY MULTICOLORED DOTS FOR A PROJECT!! The professor insisted that our work be all different shades so I did that!! Our professor didn’t hang it in the hallway because I accidentally cut the mat a millimeter off! But a student that’s “liked” by everyone turned in a project that was 3 inches shorter than everyone else’s, ruining the entire flow of the hall and under minded everyone else’s work, was proudly displayed. I do the exact same project but if I were to add any flair, it’s immediately shot down to an F. I will never forget creating my first wire animal for one of the design classes. I happen to wrap red frilly fabric on my fox and was told that “the franticness of the fabric was too much” but someone else made a fox and used orange string and was praised the house down. Of course they were a favorite. Please know the highest grades for most is a C…..coming from graduating 4.0 in high school and my two previous colleges, I was devastated. My parents did not understand what was going on so I was getting yelled at not only by my professors but my parents too. Most students again drop out due to the harsh environment. The last valedictorian I looked up drives delivery for edible arrangements….that’s 98% of us!!!
ALL staff, including LGBT and poc, are treated like dog shit! I was the president of The Community which is LGBT and the poor staff was so nervous to be out because of SCAD rules that we wound up running the club ourselves because they wouldn’t show up! I was able to befriend a couple of staff and still to this day, even after leaving their jobs, they are terrified to say anything or speak out. It’s disgusting the way they act at SCAD!!!
Savannah is hella racist too! It was actually my plan to transfer to SCAD Savannah from scad Atlanta. I completely changed my plans after five minutes of arrival in Savannah for St. Patrick’s Day, a Asian woman was called a slur by a homeless black man. I was personally attacked with a friend because he is white and I was holding his arm through a crowd. I was called nigger 5 times through the day by different white people. I am not surprised, Savannah was a hub for bringing slaves. I left as soon as I could and have never been back to Savannah. Im quite certain this mess happened to both of these people!!! It’s DISGUSTING how we DONT address SCAD and all the trash that is quite visible but people pay to ignore!!
I will never forget a girl who used to draw with such passion that I just knew I will be seeing her name in lights one day. I found out that she now works with HVAC systems because she’s so shaken up that she can’t pick up her charcoal pencil anymore. Someone needs to do something about the practices at SCAD ASAP!! I am in tears writing that sentence because I know that there is so many talented people that get trashed or toss to the wayside just because they’re not “favorites” at SCAD. No one gives a crap about that dance party that you have at the end of your to our boring graduation. I wound up not even going to my graduation because I didn’t feel like I was celebrating anything. I was in my early 20’s when I fought my way through SCAD. I am now 32 and I still have scars from it! People have to do better as scared!!!

There’s absolutely zero reason to put others down, bully them so much they commit suicide, and not help them receive the jobs they promised people! I witnessed a girl be promised time to talk to the designers at Carter’s. She stayed up all week designing for them….only to be told by SCAD that she can’t meet with them face to face because she didn’t have a fucking suit on. I was shocked to see that many job contracts contain a clause in the paperwork that requires the employee relinquish all rights to sue and the employee and must submit to arbitration. This is outrageous and needs to stop. Many people don't even realize what they are signing or the impact of what they are signing. Years down the line something may happen and they will want to sue the company but will have relinquished their right to sue. Never accept employment that requires you to relinquish your rights under the law.

The problem with racism is this: there's a racist born every minute. Let's say, perhaps 1 out of every 3 born will grow up to be a racist, practicing the art of racism and live their life insuring that the foundation of racism is kept alive. (Because God knows, there are a whole lot of white people out there who believe racism is their religion.) So what can be done to fight racism? Actually, not much. You can't fix stupid. But it wouldn't hurt to keep exposing places like the Savannah College Of Art and Design School- mention they practice racism everyday, everywhere you can. Sooner or later, someone at that school will pull their head out of their ass and question the accusations. OR, see to it everyone you know avoids that school like it's a disease. Because that is what racism is. It's a disease.

    • @MsAchampion
      @MsAchampion 2 года назад

Absolutely 💯! But what we need to understand is that it's not only racism, it's about control and the Money that everyone is making off of the sheer fact that all across the world hate is being directed towards mostly black people! Whites are taught to hate us and all other races copy their actions because they respect the white dollar! If you teach us that were ugly and detestable, what we usually do is over spend and over compensate and over work ourselves in order to be excepted everywhere! I'm smart and I see what's really going on! We as black people had better learn to respect everything about ourselves, and our struggle! Stop discrimination between light skin and dark skin within our race too! Stop teaching your black sons that other black women or girls are ugly because they are dark with short hair and large noses! Learn your tribe! Learn your origin! Respect yourselves! This also goes to the white people as well. Respect yourselves! Conduct yourselves as if you know better! Don't be afraid of your so called friends and neighbors who may ostracize you because you let them know that you love and respect all people! God will love you even when nobody else will! ❤️

There's plenty to do to fight racism, including requiring subconscious bias tests prior to hire, making sure that the workforce demographics in an organization loosely match that of the city that the organizations are located in, and firing people who are guilty of perpetuating or hiding racism instead of minorities constantly dealing with workplace sabotage and not being hired in the first place. We also could require companies to submit profiles of candidates to a federal board to ensure hiring discrimination isn't occurring, meaning minorities aren't being hired for jobs that they are more credentialed and have more experience for compared to other candidates on a repetitive basis.. There's a lot that can be done.. So much injustice ruining the lives and potential of minorities...

Had to file this and file that(like who goes to work and not have an expectation of pay🤷?) Anyway, the case was handled like a joke, wasted my time as if I didnt have more important things to do(I was working full time at that point); I mean it was unprofessional and the lady(cant recall her exact title) seemed like a nut job, potential product of incest or something. And if you do get another job the EEOC will track you and make sure that, that company will also discriminate against you. Than the EEOC will drop your case and tell you that you was the cause of the discrimination.

My last job in the field i was working there for alittle over a week and they had me sorting copper. There was this odd looking copper so im telling them that the copper isnt right but everyone is telling me im wrong but i separate it from the good shit anyways so after days of sorting i end up cutting a piece out of curiously and a greenish blue spark comes out which means its nickle in it and i know that shit will blow up if you put in a furnace. I told ppl and still they think im wrong. They didnt even bother to test it with a niton to actually see if i was right or wrong. The driver for the other company saw the boxes being put on the truck and didnt accept it because it looked off, he didnt even know what it was. They finally test it and im right and when the owner asked who caught it everybody said the truck driver. Ppl might have died had they not trusted the word of the driver because that load was going to a foundry and I feel like they only trusted him because he was white.

The bias in this country is crazy; from employers, to bankers, to educational institutions. The sad thing is most perpetrators don't know that they are bias and see their actions as normal, and sometimes it takes an outsider to infiltrate and show them the error of their ways.
Unfortunately, I have been a victim of this behavior too many times by employers- once I was hired via a phone interview, showed up to the corporate headquarters and could feel the racial tension as it was so embedded in their culture that they had no idea until they offered me a full-time position (after I paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in outstanding freight bills for the company within 2 months of being hired) and I turned the offer down flat with no reason other than the company wasn't a good fit.
The company did try to retain me, however. They even brought in a human resources representative to observe the department and conduct employee surveys which was a step in the right direction.
I still left because I was the ONLY black person in the department and I knew if I had been interviewed in person, and the choice had been between me and someone who reminded the interviewer of their cousin, they would not have chosen me . Only after a stellar accounting performance did I persuade them that black women do make great employees.
On a positive note, I think the company learned a valuable lesson about judging books by covers, and I'm sure my departure caused a culture shift in favor of diversity and inclusion.

The 'Fair Act' is a great move to protect employees. SCAD knows that in a court of law they might lose most lawsuits thus prefer to do it behind closed doors to protect their image.
How do they expect this coach, a middle aged black man to enforce an alcohol policy around dozens of college students (especially white students from wealthy families) who might retaliate in different ways to make him the bad guy because he's not cool enough? It's college, students drink when partying or hanging out off campus. His job is being around them 95% of the time so how can he risk even his life out there fighting with college guys over their drinking? It's obviously in his best interest to not babysit them unless something dangerous was going on.
