The big studios typically do this. They pay for a 4K scan and not much else. The boutique labels make a huge effort with the extras, as in the Bruce Lee set at Arrow, and for me that's very valuable. Best way is to get this release, pop it into the Arrow set and it's about as complete as you can hope for.
They are waiting for the 100th anniversary to sell the same old stuff......including à fabulous Bruce Lee plastic key chain ! Thanks so much Warner (fake) brothers !
I worked for years at the Warner Brother's Lot (aka Burbank Studios).... The executive building was directly across the street. The suits that worked there were young college grads wet behind the ears. I hate to say this but many were women (and LGB) types that probably never saw or appreciated a Bruce Lee movie... and that my friend is the simple "truth". They simply don't understand (or care). And neither does Linda. I was very good (working) friends with one of Brandon's close friends at the time back in the late 80's and she told me that Brandon and Linda were always at war. Linda wanted to sell everything of Bruce's and Brandon did not. That's why after Brandon died, Linda auctioned off much of Bruce's personal things at a very public Beverly Hills Auction. I was thinking of going but never did. Linda was a huge sell out. And that includes her signing off on that completely Bull crap feature film "The Dragon". I worked on that film as well and my disappointment turned to anger. Supposedly based on Linda's book "Bruce Lee: The Man Only I Knew" (which I read and enjoyed back in the 70's), the film should have been called "The Made Up Linda Crap of lies". At least Shannon is trying to keep Bruce Lee Enterprises afloat. If it were up to Linda, she would have killed his legacy.
You're spot on Stripey, and yeah, and a Bey Logan commentary would have been awesome, his commentaries on the Hong Kong Legends dvds are brilliant and he is so cool to listen to. Am a new subscriber to you and I love your passion for Bruce Lee❤❤
I was fortunate enough to have seen the movie in the theatre in the summer of 73 at age 12, I remember the subsequent Kung Fu craze for the next couple years, had already seen Five Fingers Of Death (King Boxer) and Fist of Fury (Big Boss) , Chinese Connection (Fist Of Fury), Hammer of God (Chinese Boxer)then ended up seeing the other Lee film (Return Of The Dragon) at the Drive-in the next year. Picked up the paperback "The Legend Of Bruce Lee" and also a black velvet Lee poster which I still have. Bought a pile of magazines like Inside Kung Fu etc. Remember reading the article in the newspaper that he had died and was totally shocked. Fun times and great memories, so long ago. Here in Canada the prices for Blu Ray/4k releases are ridiculous and have lately doubled so will not be getting any other releases and will stick with my Criterion box. Don't care for the strange color changes (teal/orange) on most rereleases these days anyway, that's not the way the movies originally looked in the theatre back in the day, Cheers!
Nice memories, Robert. I remember my older brothers seeing the Bruce films at the cinema & going nuts over him. ( I was a bit too young) I got into Bruce 1981/82. Shame Canadian prices are so high on Blu & 4K (I'm sure they want us all to stream everything) The Criterion box is awesome, mate. cheers
Big thanks for doing this video, now Ii’ll be purchasing the Arrow 4K set, & I know that the “Enter the Dragon” version on that set is only a 2K version, but knowing that Warner Bros was going to release a 4K edition of “Enter the Dragon” & it being my fav Bruce Lee movie I was tempted to double dip, but a poor & lazy release of no new extras it’s quite sad that you’d think they’ll do something real special on a 50th anniversary. I’ll be getting a basic 4K release of it & will add the disc to the Arrow set, that’s it .
I've pre ordered the Arrow set too, mate. Shame about ETD. It's my favourite, Bruce film (I love them all). I'm tempted to buy it. It's out today, ooooh, temptation. But I'm going to wait, I think. Cheers fella 👍
Could be much worse. You could be _losing_ extras compared to the older releases. I mean look at Die Hard, the original DVD was a two-disc affair with an alternate cut, but almost none of the extras got ported over to blu.
I'm sure they could have done one of those commentaries that's spliced together from archive interviews with the cast and crew. Or imagine how good a commentary would have been with 10 mins by Sammo Hung, 10 by Javkie Chan, 10 by Yuen Biao, and even Scott Adkins, Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Cynthia Rothrock, etc.
Depends how busy they are. Why did you misspell Jackie's name!? Show some respect to that man it's utter lazyness asf to do that! Your idea make's no sense, you don't know how things work!
These companies don't need to save "the good stuff" for anniversary editions, because the anniversary editions sell themselves. If you want to maximize profits, you bring out special editions with the "good stuff" at an opportune time for the company, and then they sell a subpar version as the anniversary editions, and the fans of the IP/actor will surely buy both. And that is why physical media is dying.
I honestly don't know how WB have the balls to put that out and expect the fans to be okay with it, it's embarrassing. Clearly just a cash grab. At least Arrow video are showing them how it's done. Great video as always mate could listen to to talk about Bruce for hours.
100% mate. I bought a new TV & 4K player for the Criterion set (I do love a little Bruce Lee) But I'm gonna pass on this ETD set (which is gutting). I'll wait for the normal release, I think. cheers pal
It's totally unbelievable Stripey honestly, i received a gift from my 2 beautiful children, for my birthday, An American Werewolf In London 4k Ultra HD boxset, they gave 6 lobby cards 2 posters, and a book on the movie, and the extras pal, I'd be writing all day 😂, on a serious note, you hit the nail on the head my friend, i believe they have the full footage, of Bruce going full monkey style on han, but won't release it for some reason, i always said the fights in enter the dragon were cut down, since getting my copy of The Making Of Enter The Dragon by Robert clouse, back in 83,and now Ricky Bakers photos of Enter The Dragon volume 1 and 2 which I'm sure you have, great review my friend, straight to the point, Know me I'll probably get it 😂i must have at least 7 copies, not including my betamax version and original vhs version. Respect from Ireland stripey stay safe my friend 💯🍀🇮🇪🍀👍👍👍👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻🔥🔥🔥🤜🤛🔥
Hey, Michael. I hope all is well with you. The American Werewolf, is one of my all time favs (I need to get that set btw). The reason why your boxset is so lush is because it was put out by Arrow Video, they put so much effort into their products (wish WB would do as much) I'm just so disappointed & I find it a little disrespectful to Bruce's memory (it's the 50th Anniversary of his sad passing) I will get the bare bones copy when it's released with a slip cover. Hopefully it'll have both cuts of the film. I too have many copies of ETD mate (don't have the Betamax & VHS anymore tho...Nice one Michael) You take it easy my friend 👍
The American Werewolf 4k is awesome and I brought the German turbine release (same as the arrow) and paid almost half price but what a picture / sound totally love it - also got the 4k dig soldiers and that’s a beautiful beast as well
Hi mate, just watched ETD 4k on Apple. Looks great! But obviously it's 50 years old and I'm streaming it so quality won't be as good as a disc. The sound is Dolby Atmos and that sounds great :)
Makes sense entirely to me. The 4K market is not big. It's about a third of the bluray one and that's about half of the DVD one. So Warners spend the money on the restoration. Fans buy it anyway since it's the best edition visually. So there's no incentive to do anything extra for WB. Sometimes it helps to take the fan hat off and be objective. None of us expected the Arrow set to be THAT definitive. It's going to shine a light on the other Bruce films which have ALWAYS been overshadowed by Enter The Dragon. So a lot of people will be new to Bruce through that and they may find Game Of Death or Big Boss is their fave.
My wife could talk hours with you. She's a die hard Bruce Lee fan. I agree with your video. There's probably tons of Bruce stuff not released yet EDIT: I ordered it. Probably the last Bruce Lee disc as well.
Let's hope the 4K transfer is better than the Planes Trains and automobiles because it had too much sharpness and DNR it softened the image too much but 🤞 it's a near perfect 4K transfer
I am not up to date on 2K, 4K whatever. But it's good to know from people that are, thanks for that. Last one I got was the "Movie and More" 2-disc DVD, which is pretty damn great even though it's the extended cut only.
If you can even order it, I expect this one to be sold out instantly as soon as the preorder goes live with there only being 3000 copies worldwide. I’m just going to wait for the normal stand alone 4k version.
It will sell out very quick, 100%, but I won't be getting this. I. like you will wait & get the stand alone 4K. Such a shame & missed opportunity. cheers Winston
The 1998 cut was in fact the 1973 Golden Harvest HK/SE Asia domestic cut but with the 100 years of Warner Bros set they could have done separate sets for 60s-70s-80s, 60s set with North by Northwest, Oceans 11 (Frank Sinatra) (1960), Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (1965) Harper (1966), Cool Hand Luke (1967), Bullitt, Where Eagles Dare, The Green Berets (1968), The Wild Bunch (1969). 70s set with Dirty Harry, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971), Deliverance (1972), The Exorcist, Enter The Dragon (1973), Blazing Saddles, The Towering Inferno (1974), A Star Is Born (Barbara Streisand Kris Kristofferson) (1976), Superman (1978), and a separate 80s set with The Shining (1980), The Right Stuff, Risky Business, National Lampoon's Vacation (1983), Gremlins, Police Academy (1984), Goonies (1985), Lethal Weapon, The Lost Boys, (1987), Batman (1989) instead of doing a 70s-80s set with Enter The Dragon and Willy Wonka both 70s films with 3 from the 80s Gremlins, Goonies and The Lost Boys. (In a USA version of the 70s set The Towering Inferno would have had to have been replaced with another film the replacement film being The Swarm (1978) which was like The Towering Inferno was directed by Irwin Allen)
On a personal level, Enter The Dragon was one of my very first soundtracks in 1974. It left a positive impression on me, even though it was so short and incomplete. So when I skipped into Suncoast and saw that 25th anniversary edition in 1998, I grabbed one, turned it over to check out the contents. "Brand-New 56-minute soundtrack CD of the great Lalo Schifrin score." Yes, lobby cards and a senitype along with a gorgeous tribute book also sold it, I gave up the meager $40 and have been very pleased with everything. Space limitations forced me to throw the box out but the set of lobby card reprints are framed and up on the wall. I have my 2004 DVD release to round things out PLUS the Game Of Death footage. I am content with all of these...like that 4th grader would be.🙃
I have the 25th anniversary box (it's really cool), it was amazing when it was released, but ever since then, we've had the same extras on pretty much every ETD DVD & Blu Ray (Criterion Excluded). The soundtrack is amazing, Allan. I love it, so diverse and cool with different styles of jazz, funk & oriental. From the energy of the MainTheme to the beautiful, jazzy a Gentle Softness...superb. cheers fella
Hi stripey yes I'm very disappointed about it for some reason also here in the USA they keep printing the same photo of Bruce in magazines I'm sick of that. yes Warner bros should have done better same stuff over and over also still waiting for the green hornet to be released like they did for batman I wonder what's up with that project one good thing in August 13th they will show enter the dragon in the big screen in selected theaters in the usa for the 50th anniversary of enter the dragon. I look forward to that at least that will make me happy.
Not having a official release of "The Green Hornet" after all this time, format after format, is criminal. The closest I got was a better-than-average bootleg of the entire series. As in from the masters. That "PLACE COMMERCIAL HERE" slide is better than a COA.
I'm going to buy it but like you said there's loads of other extras and things they could have put on there. These extras have been available since the DVD release. So much of the cast and crew has passed on, but there are a lot of people who could be doing extras and commentaries. They are phoning this release in....They really need to treat this film a lot better considering how much it means to fans and how much money it's made over the years considering they spent peanuts to make it. Just think of it this way this is probably going to be the last physical release of this film ever.
Go for it, mate. I won't be getting this version myself. With WB history I doubt it'll be the last physical release of this film, How many VHS videos/DVDs & Blu Rays have they put out on ETD? loads, this is their first 4K UHD, I doubt it'll be their last (I could be wrong tho). Enjoy fella
Still got bruce lee magazines I bought in the late 80s all glossy colour all bruce lee and I've still got a pair of nunchakus the real wood hard wood swivel chain I bought the late 70s when I started working
I had loads of mags (all the Kung Fu Monthly mags) & books, long since gone. All my Betamax/VHS & Laserdiscs. I wish I'd kept the lot in hindsight. Careful with those chux, David.
I pre-ordered it today because I didn't have the previous version, the one you showed, so it's fine for me but I get what you're saying. It will be an upgrade for me for definite. BTW off to see Way Of The Dragon at the cinema on June 22nd! SO looking forward it!
Limiting to 3k is what WB are also doing with the Jaws 2 4k collectors edition release in a couple of months, but they’re also just releasing the non collectors edition at the same time,
I'll be picking this up for the 4K alone... having just ventured into the world of UHD. I just hope WB have done the restoration justice. What I've already found out (to my cost) is that not all 4K restorations are created equal. As for the extras, I totally get where you're coming from. I've had various versions of the film over the years, and the extras were probably great on initial release, but the world's moved on... along with our understanding of the man.
The extras have been the same since the 25th Anniversary, I do believe, Lee. You are 100% correct on not all 4K's being equal. I'm really hoping they do a fantastic job on this release. cheers pal
@@StripeyR This is what scares me...are we going to get Bruce Lee's voice on the extended like Criterion...or the overdub that just doesn't cut it anymore? I would love to make a disc or two of the Criterion version almost obsolete. When this is sll said and done, will need a road map for the exclusive extras on Shout/Criterion/Arrow. Thx Stripey, your updates are amazing!
Great video. Warner brothers should have done a better job.. unbelievable. Not going to get it. One of my friend told me he read a article back in 1974 or 1975 that Warner brothers destroy 800 ft of footage when editing enter the dragon in 1973. I don't know if this is true or not. enjoy your day my friend.
I believe that footage has since been retrieved in recent versions in the opening scenes when Bruce is talking to his Shaolin Master about his mission with Han and in the final fight with Han when he remembers what he said about "Destroying The Image" in the mirror scene all of which was not present in the original Theatrical presentation .
I completely agree Stripey. The amount of money that little film made them and they can't be bothered is just BAD!!! 50 year old movie and the 50th year of Bruce's passing. It's SACRILEGE. Hope you're doing well my Bruce brother 👍🙏
..Great video!! I totally agree with EVERYTHING you said!! I'm very disappointed too. I was actually going to pre-ordered it and until I watched your video, I immediately canx my decision. I liked your idea of a CD Soundtrack of this movie (that would've been awesome). But, yep! WB screwed up badly.... Thanks for this video Sir!!! 😅😅
I will just look forward to the Arrow release now. Why we wait, let me know what’s the best audio tracks you watch your Bruce Lee movies in Also in the Arrow set there will be the Japanese version of the way of the Dragon, has anyone seen it yet as it looks like there is some extra scenes like the Toilet scene and extra kicks to Norris. Also the Japanese audio is the only one that includes Bruce lees original battle cries
I'm looking forward to the Arrow set (not long now mate). I listen to the English Dubs most of the time but I do love the Mandarin mono audio. I know very little about the Japanese version of The Way of the Dragon, but I can't wait to dig in. Cheers fella
@@StripeyR yeh I grew up on the English dubs audio on VHS I think I prefer now. The Big boss in Mandarin mono as the music is better too and more Bruce Lee sound. The punches sound better and better synced with the actions. Fist of Fury in Mandarin mono for the same reason. The Way of the dragon in Japanese audio. You hear the battle cries that are extra compared to the English dub. they are more in time with the lips and punch sounds then the English dub versions. I also did a test recently and most of the 5.1 audio tracks are not great and in Way of the dragon I just heard punches and kicks from other fighters happening in my surround speakers but in the Japanese mono audio I heard more Bruce.
@@StripeyR yeh try a few scenes out. Watch Way of the dragon when he fights the Japanese guy at the end in the English dub first and then do the Japanese. You will soon notice loads of changes in all the movies. Even at the start of the movie the Japanese intro song sounds great.
If they truly wanted to release a new enter of the dragon special edition, they should include the deleted scenes. There’s already proof of certain angles already existing and original dialogue, if arrow was handling this they’d definitely recover the new footage.
I see they are bringing out a standard 4K release, with both versions of the movie included. Will you be buying that release? I've pre ordered the ultimate collectors edition
Yes, I've pre-ordered the standard version, mate. I'm so pleased you get both versions in 4K & it is released over a month earlier 7th Aug. cheers pal 👍
Regarding Commentaries Andre Morgan one of the production managers on Enter The Dragon is still alive as of 2023 surely Warner Bros could have got him to do a commentary on the theatrical cut alongside Bey Logan or Mike Leeder
love this film i am very lucky to have a full reel 2 20 mins full segment in technicolour 35mm i do screen it from time to time one hell of a lalo schifrin music score was 11 when first came out i got to see it in 1979 as a double bill with game of death went back to the odeon liverpool 3 times that week it was on the giant screen 1 great days only wish you could bottle those days and keep them forever thanks bruce the king of kung fu
Thanks, Tom. The 35mm reel sounds beautiful. The Lalo soundtrack is almost as iconic as the film... Classic. They were the golden days indeed mate. Cheers
Hi Stripey, my post sort of disapeared. So I will try again without a link. Yep Warners really fouled up big time but I think considering your last post on what was on the warners 50th anniversay box set of films, it was an indicator. Anyway, your in the Uk and if any other fans are, then there is the Prince charles Cinema in Leicester square London. They are running the Bruce Lee at golden Harvest Arrow films for the next few months, including the theatrical cut of Enter the dragon. All the best.
I love Bruce Lee's Films I've not got 4k but I know what you mean about Warner Brothers. They still haven't released The Devil's Uncut on any format BFI put it out on Blu-ray but it was still the Theatrical Cut.
@@StripeyR at the 6:22 mark he says,”a good martial artist does not become tense but ready, not thinking yet not dreaming, ready for whatever may come, when the opponent expand I contract, when he contracts I expand and when there is an opportunity, I do not hit, it hits all by itself…” not entirely all of the conversation with the priest but most of it
@@StripeyR Enter the Dragon is not even on the Arrow box set, I thought it's the complete collection...I am not a fanatic at it...I didn't noticed, I just wanted everything in one place, now I have to spend even more? 🥲
@Yavor Chernaev I hear you, mate. I wish WB let Arrow take control of ETD, but alas, we get the 40th Anniversary edition... again. Other than that, the Arrow set looks amazing, and I can't wait to get mine. Cheers pal 👍
Really frustrating. Think I’ll wait and just get a bare bones 4K version of it when if it comes out. Got the arrow box set on pre-order and that has enough bits and pieces included to keep me happy. 45 quid for all those recycled extras is an absolute joke.
I'm really looking forward to the Arrow set too mate. I'll wait and get ETD standard 4K UHD release. Ultimate Collector's Edition (my ass) cheers fella
Hey stripey hope you are well, my number is 2798 of 3000 copies, i missed out on the 40th anniversary, that is the reason I preordered the 50th anniversary ultimate edition ultra 4k with the 40th anniversary blu Ray included, stay safe mate 🇮🇪🙏🇮🇪👍👍👌👌
Iagree with you 100 percent on what you said ,,were being ripped off again ,with the same old documentarys and behind the sceans footage,,but iam with you , ihavent got the 4k version and the red box package does look appealing, will i buy it ,iam afraid yes
When I saw your thumbnail Stripey, I knew what you were going to say, after watching your video on what you hoped to see on the ETD 4k and what COULD be done with ETD...I'm saddened but not surprised it's went this way 😵💫 after seeing this I'm probably going for a standard with a slip...which is a pity considering how good the Arrow set is!! 🥴 .... I don't think they will...but imagine if they did a "newer" version with new extras 😲😲 oh well, save a few quid mate! Great video 🤩🤩👍👍
Hey, John, I feel the same way "saddened but not surprised". WB are just useless. This is so disappointing compared to the Arrow set (which I'm so excited for). I did hear rumours that Deadpool 2 director David Leitch was in talks with WB to do a remake of ETD (dunno how I feel about that tho, who could replace Bruce Lee) but I've not heard anything lately. I won't be pre ordering this (I am tempted) but like you I'll wait for the standard with a slip (I know you love your slips mate). I was showing a friend you're channel today & you're amazing filum collection 😉 I enjoy you're videos, you have great taste, A Clockwork Orange, Video Nasties, Eraserhead & so much more. Keep up the good work Buddy 👍
@Stripey Rambles I think I heard that about the ETD remake, didn't know Deadpool 2 director was involved 🤔 could be good, but I would hope they don't try to outdo the original (impossible) more a re imagining 🤔👍I'm actually blown away that you know my channel Stripey 🤯 long story short, I've been watching your videos since the Terry Hall tribute video 😔 (such a shame) I watch RUclips on my TV on a different channel and realised today I hadn't checked it out on my Mondo channel (hope this makes sense😵💫🤣) thanks for the positive words Stripey 🤩🤩👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies I'm a bit quiet on the comments, John, (apologies about that) but I've been watching you're content for quite a while. I've recently watched you're Kubrick ranking & David Lynch (excellent videos) mate. 👍
Hi mate, It is a step in the right direction with the 4K restoration. I know it's not what you expected or hoped for. But for sure, you will enjoy the 4K. Take care mate.
Hi Mate, I've got many copies of ETD and it's the same extras every time. Sure the 4K UHD will be excellent (hopefully), but It's the 50th Anniversary of ETD and Bruce Lee's sad death. I think WB could have put a little effort into this special year (for Bruce fans). cheers Pe Ke
I’m sure there are lots of unseen footages of Bruce Lee, but I don’t think they are owned by Warner Bros. And from what I heard, those out takes of the movie were destroyed. They would be worth a fortune now if take had kept them.
I loved my blu ray enter the dragon and it comes with so many documentaries and it was awesome! I bet the 4K is just the same as my blu ray! Sound like it! I won’t support WB anymore! Just like their DCU movies!😂😂😂
I have the UK 40th anniversary edition and I'm pretty sure it didn't have the lenticular, only the USA got that. So for me thats not so bad, but I told agree with what you're saying. WB are just cashing up as they've seen people will still buy it. They're taking advantage.
Here is the problem! WB doesn’t have anything new in their vaults. The theatrical version is on The Criterion Collection and by saying limited to 3000 pieces is that they only want to start a frenzy. I wouldn’t waste my money on rehashing old material. 👎🏻
@@StripeyR the cine edition says 1000 copies but thats not global the other option is 3000 copies global and has a number stamped. I reckon the 3000 copy version is more collectable than the 1000 copy version. As a record collector stamped numbers is way more collectable as you probably already know
Stripey . Just looking at RUclips. It's called. Bruce Lee game of death complete temple 97 minutes footage 1972 both rare take after take. By. Bruce Lee the warrior swordsman. It's best to turn the volume down as they have made a right mess of John Barry's game of death title music. But the footage is great . Best.
I hate to admit it but I very much would like to ATTEMPT to go after this release on Monday as it'd pair very well with my Arrow Bruce Lee 4K boxset I have on pre-order. Any idea where, and when, it'll go up for pre-order for U.S. buyers? I know it'll be a crapshoot tryin' to get it but figure I may as well *try. Thanks in advance for any insight!
The link is down til Monday, but www.zavvi.com/4k/enter-the-dragon-50th-anniversary-ultimate-collector-s-edition-4k-ultra-hd-steelbook-includes-blu-ray/14842210.html good luck
Hii @Stripey NEW here to the channel, LOVED this video. Got ME laughing hard! 🤣😂🤣 but I agree with everything you've said! VERY DISSAPOINTED! 50th anniversary down the hill. They don't really care!
Hey fella, Glad you enjoyed the video & welcome to the Rambles. WB really did screw this release up. It could have been so much better. Hey Ho, it is what it is I guess. Cheers pal
It's shocking Steve, but not suprising. WB really could give 2 Shits for us Bruce Lee fans. A missed golden opportunity for this historic piece of cinema (wished they'd let Arrow take control). Agree with the artwork comment to fella. I hope all is well with you mate & you're still drawing/painting you're awesome art. 👍
You said there is commentary from Paul heller Paul heller is dead so it will be commentary from a previous bruce lee pack to be honest there probably is no more footage that we haven't seen all the actors are dead ,well the main actors from the film it will probably be extortionate, every movie he's made should be 4k that would be worth watching and paying for,why don't they re-release ENTER THE DRAGON into the theatres, I haven't seen a bruce lee movie in the theatres since the late 70s happy days
I think ETD is showing in selected theaters, David. All the extras, including, Paul Heller's, are just taken straight from previous releases of the film. Arrow Video is releasing a Bruce Lee set in July all in 4K UHD & the set looks amazing (they put WB to shame). cheers fella
What is the difference between the 2 cuts of the flim ,,surely its the extended cut people want to see as thats the longer version,,thats all i want to see ,like at the beginning the monk scean 😊
It's good to have both as there are other subtle differences, such as music removed from one scene and music added to another scene that originally didn't have any. It's the nostalgia for me, having the same version I used to watch as a kid.
Warner bros hand it over to arrow video and let them do what they do best actually put proper content on the discs make it worth buying for the content not just a 4k picture
What a let-down... And they didn't even think to include that previously unseen 20 minute monkey kung fu fight scene that Beardy told us all about. lol.
Well Stripey my friend, i knew what was coming there with WB, so I'm not in the least surprised, and like yourself, I'm waiting for the Arrow set which I've ordered from HMV. Me and my wife will be watching FOF, WOTD and Enter in Stockport in August at the cinema, so thst will be cool and we're attending another Bruce convention in Leeds this October, which will be an Enter The Dragon 50th special celebration. Sorry to digress here, but we both also love another great actor, who's surname is Lee and that's Christopher Lee. We're watching the 50th anniversary of The Wicker Man, also in Stockport, on 4K, on the big screen. It mentions Britt Ekland being there, so it sounds a great event. All in all, Bruce will be definitely on our priority list this year Stripey, but like you correctly say, WB definitely took the P here. Have a great evening! Warmest wishes. Tony and Kim 👍👍
Enjoy the Bruce Lee films in Stockport (sounds awesome) & Bruce convention, Tony, I'm sure you will. I love The Wicker Man, mate, (not the remake). The 1973 version is getting a 4K 5 disc set coming out later this year (will be getting this) take care you guys 👍
I now what you mean mate, there are tons of Hall of mirrors out takes still in the warner archive to be seen etc and the Chinese guys making of footage to be released.
@@MrTonybirdi There are THREE to choose from. HMV have a limited 50th Anniversary Cine Edition with Steelbook hmv.com/store/film-tv/4k-ultra-hd-blu-ray/enter-the-dragon-(hmv-exclusive)-steelbook It's up to you mate. The HMV & Ultimate Collectors Edition are limited, so if you buy the standard, you could regret not getting on of these limited editions, but the choice is yours. I got the standard 2 disc set. I have pretty much all those extras (the steelbooks do look great tho. Good Luck 👍
There are tons of Bruce Lee & film experts that could have made something, not to mention Sammo Hung & Jackie Chan, who both worked on ETD. WB are just in it for the cash (in my humble opinion) cheers Pal
What I’ll be doing is swapping over the Arrow blu ray with the Warner 4K so I’ll have all the 4Ks in Arrow’s Bruce Lee Golden Harvest box set. They could’ve teamed up with Arrow & let them do the job of doing all the extras & commentaries for the 4K release.
That's actually not a bad idea, mate. I think the ETD 40th is gonna spoil the arrow set (a little) such a wasted & missed opportunity. I only WB let Arrow do something special. Hey Ho, it is what it is I guess. cheers pal.
This is a huge pass for sure. No effort in quality or quantity. Thanks Warners🤦♂️ Arrow really showing them how it should be done with the Golden Harvest boxset. Really wanted a 4k copy of ETD as well.
The movie is 50 years old and you’re expecting new things?!? Even John Saxon has passed away ( about 3 years ago ) An interview with him or commentary would have been an interesting addition. The director Robert Clouse died in 1997 just before DVD 📀 commentaries took off. Basically you’re expecting fresh blood 🩸 out of an old stone
How is it then that the boutique labels are able to produce newly commissioned content to put on as extras on their releases? The age of the movie is irrelevant here. It's simply that Warners and other majors are too penny pinching to do likewise. It's the same with other movies such as 'Easy Rider' where the bonus material on the 4K is the same old stuff that's been presented since at least the days of DVD. When Criterion released that film, they included those but also a new documentary. It's about giving loyal fans something for their hard earned. It's a crying shame Warners were too grasping to allow Arrow to have this film in 4K for their upcoming box set. You know there'd be something new at least, even if it was alongside the old material.
just seen the Big Boss Mandarin print on the big screen . The extra footage does fill a few gaps and strings it together nicely .......... but no extra gore or combat scenes , boo !
Wow, Mick, I'd have loved to have seen it on a big screen (I'll have to wait for the Arrow set I guess) I didn't expect any more fight scenes but it'll be cool to see some extra footage. cheers pal
WB should have hours upon hurs of bruce lee ETD fight footage,,where has all that gone plus ,there must be loads of mirror footage and we have only ever seen abt 15 mins of outtake footage,,i think WB has lost all the bruce lee footage as explains why they keep giving us the same interviews or documentarys on every new release these past 45 years 🤭
I think a lot just got destroyed, Sam, but a least make a new documentary, some new audio commentaries, rare image gallery & a new 4K trailer, just something new. cheers pal
@@StripeyR totally agree with you ,wished i asked these questions to Shannon lee and jim kelly when i met them at a bruce lee convention in uk Birmingham in 94 and 94 ,,and yes i still have there photos signed 👍
I don't even think the Linda Lee introduction will be new. Of course, I'm a bit disappointed but I can't say I'm surprised, Warner Bros. & Shannon Lee don't seem to actually give a shit about Bruce Lee fans at all. I may buy a bare bones edition of ETD in 4k (provided reviews are fantastic) eventually but there's no way in hell I'm going to pay good money for this "ultimate collectors edition", f**k Warner Bros ...
Agreed Stu. I have really high hopes for the Arrow set. I just hope WB do the film justice with the 4K UHD scan.
cheers pal
They are waiting for the 100th anniversary to sell the same old stuff......including à fabulous Bruce Lee plastic key chain ! Thanks so much Warner (fake) brothers !
the 100th anniversary may also include Paul Hellers audio commentary...AGAIN.
such a shame.
Bruce Lee plastic key chain 😂🤣

I’m not surprised Linda became apathetic about the Bruce Lee legacy, but it’s a bit of a bummer to hear it anyway.
@@mi39471 absolutely. it was for me at the time as well.
Although there are no additional surprises, I will buy it, after all, it is the best version so far
I totally get it, mate. It's just so disappointing for us Bruce Lee fans. Enjoy.
You're spot on Stripey, and yeah, and a Bey Logan commentary would have been awesome, his commentaries on the Hong Kong Legends dvds are brilliant and he is so cool to listen to. Am a new subscriber to you and I love your passion for Bruce Lee❤❤
Thanks, fella 👍
Shame Canadian prices are so high on Blu & 4K (I'm sure they want us all to stream everything)
The Criterion box is awesome, mate.
Thanks Tom, I appreciate it mate. I will get the bare bones version of ETD, when it's available
cheers fella
@@StripeyR Same here mate, take care.
Sadly we was all expecting this. I’ve no 4k kit at the moment so I’m not paying £45 for the same old stuff.
100% mate. I bought a new TV & 4K player for the Criterion set (I do love a little Bruce Lee)
But I'm gonna pass on this ETD set (which is gutting). I'll wait for the normal release, I think.

At last, an honest review from a true fan.

Warner Brothers is being shameful!
Shameful is the right word for this mate
U mean greedy corporation...sounds about right
@@Jason5818UI Yep, that too
It's totally unbelievable Stripey honestly, i received a gift from my 2 beautiful children, for my birthday, An American Werewolf In London 4k Ultra HD boxset, they gave 6 lobby cards 2 posters, and a book on the movie, and the extras pal, I'd be writing all day 😂, on a serious note, you hit the nail on the head my friend, i believe they have the full footage, of Bruce going full monkey style on han, but won't release it for some reason, i always said the fights in enter the dragon were cut down, since getting my copy of The Making Of Enter The Dragon by Robert clouse, back in 83,and now Ricky Bakers photos of Enter The Dragon volume 1 and 2 which I'm sure you have, great review my friend, straight to the point, Know me I'll probably get it 😂i must have at least 7 copies, not including my betamax version and original vhs version. Respect from Ireland stripey stay safe my friend 💯🍀🇮🇪🍀👍👍👍👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻🔥🔥🔥🤜🤛🔥
Hey, Michael. I hope all is well with you. The American Werewolf, is one of my all time favs (I need to get that set btw). The reason why your boxset is so lush is because it was put out by Arrow Video, they put so much effort into their products (wish WB would do as much)
I'm just so disappointed & I find it a little disrespectful to Bruce's memory (it's the 50th Anniversary of his sad passing)
I will get the bare bones copy when it's released with a slip cover. Hopefully it'll have both cuts of the film.
I too have many copies of ETD mate (don't have the Betamax & VHS anymore tho...Nice one Michael)
You take it easy my friend 👍
The American Werewolf 4k is awesome and I brought the German turbine release (same as the arrow) and paid almost half price but what a picture / sound totally love it - also got the 4k dig soldiers and that’s a beautiful beast as well
Movie premiere in theatres all over the world they would be packed out ,which would keep his legacy going
100%, David. Bruce is more popular now, than ever before.
There's probably tons of Bruce stuff not released yet
EDIT: I ordered it. Probably the last Bruce Lee disc as well.
Let's hope the 4K transfer is better than the Planes Trains and automobiles because it had too much sharpness and DNR it softened the image too much but 🤞 it's a near perfect 4K transfer
fingers crossed mate
@@StripeyR Is it confirmed there will be an eventual standard 4K release?
I know, mate, the 100 years would have been cool if they did decades' 70s 80s, etc.
Enter the Dragon seem odd in that set (to me anyway)
Cheers 👍
Got mine on pre-order
Limited to 3000 world wide? Fucking ridiculous WB!
It's Ludicrous fella
Hi stripey yes I'm very disappointed about it for some reason also here in the USA they keep printing the same photo of Bruce in magazines I'm sick of that. yes Warner bros should have done better same stuff over and over also still waiting for the green hornet to be released like they did for batman I wonder what's up with that project one good thing in August 13th they will show enter the dragon in the big screen in selected theaters in the usa for the 50th anniversary of enter the dragon. I look forward to that at least that will make me happy.
Seeing ETD on the big screen will be fantastic, Larry, good point. But the 4K Blu Ray is a huge let down (for me). Such a shame.
thanks pal
I would, too, mate, if I didn't have it multiple times.
Enjoy Way of the Dragon (I know you will) 😉
@@StripeyR thanks mate
That's such a shame, Tony, If the article is true. That would be gold dust now.
Cheers mate
Don’t know if you know, that HBO MAX-aka -max has the original 1973 enter the Dragon. The way they released it in theaters in 1973.
I think you are right ✅,,explains why we get the same old documentarys and the behind the scenes lol 😆
Wish they could put replicas of the nunchucks in them.
That would be cool, mate.

Why we wait, let me know what’s the best audio tracks you watch your Bruce Lee movies in
Also in the Arrow set there will be the Japanese version of the way of the Dragon, has anyone seen it yet as it looks like there is some extra scenes like the Toilet scene and extra kicks to Norris.

@@StripeyR yeh I grew up on the English dubs audio on VHS
I think I prefer now.
@PERCYVIDEOS I'll have a re watch with these selected audio tracks, mate. I may, at some point, do a video on the subject.

Someone has added a video on it. ruclips.net/video/LChSRgk_RE8/видео.html
If they truly wanted to release a new enter of the dragon special edition, they should include the deleted scenes. There’s already proof of certain angles already existing and original dialogue, if arrow was handling this they’d definitely recover the new footage.

As much as I dislike WB, they were probably planning a 50th Anniversary 4k release longer than Criterion and Arrow were planning their box sets
Maybe they didn't put much into it's 50th regarding extras, tho.
Cheers fella
Hi mate,
It is a step in the right direction with the 4K restoration.
I know it's not what you expected or hoped for.
But for sure, you will enjoy the 4K.
Take care mate.
Not necessarily, 4K quality can vary pretty widely, after this announcement I'm not exactly confident WB will do an excellent job with this.
Hi Mate,
I've got many copies of ETD and it's the same extras every time. Sure the 4K UHD will be excellent (hopefully), but It's the 50th Anniversary of ETD and Bruce Lee's sad death. I think WB could have put a little effort into this special year (for Bruce fans).
cheers Pe Ke
Was there any deleted scenes
Not that I'm aware of fella (such a shame)
I’m sure there are lots of unseen footages of Bruce Lee, but I don’t think they are owned by Warner Bros. And from what I heard, those out takes of the movie were destroyed. They would be worth a fortune now if take had kept them.
I loved my blu ray enter the dragon and it comes with so many documentaries and it was awesome! I bet the 4K is just the same as my blu ray! Sound like it! I won’t support WB anymore! Just like their DCU movies!😂😂😂
It's the same extras, mate. I just hope & prey they do a great job on the transfer & the 4K UHD looks amazing. WB suck!
cheers fella
Honest truth, I am so impatient that I was bored and frustrated at the speed in which he said "hello...and".
Never mind, thanks for stopping by. Cool name btw
I have the UK 40th anniversary edition and I'm pretty sure it didn't have the lenticular, only the USA got that. So for me thats not so bad, but I told agree with what you're saying. WB are just cashing up as they've seen people will still buy it. They're taking advantage.
Should I order it as a new Bruce lee fan/collector?
Yes, Brittney. It's such a cool/iconic movie.
Here is the problem! WB doesn’t have anything new in their vaults. The theatrical version is on The Criterion Collection and by saying limited to 3000 pieces is that they only want to start a frenzy. I wouldn’t waste my money on rehashing old material. 👎🏻
Hmv just opened preorders for 3 versions.
Cine edition only 1000 copies
Anniversary edition only 3000 copies and a standard slip cover 4k
I see the Cine edition on HMV's site. It looks like the Ultimate Collection with a different Steelcase (another WB cash grab maybe?)
@@StripeyR the cine edition says 1000 copies but thats not global the other option is 3000 copies global and has a number stamped. I reckon the 3000 copy version is more collectable than the 1000 copy version. As a record collector stamped numbers is way more collectable as you probably already know
I guess movie professionals have forgotten about ETD since 1998
I think you're right, Josh. such a shame.
cheers pal
Jackie Chan could have had some extras to this, like him on a commentary, Sammo as well
You're right , mate. Jackie & Sammo we're in the film, Alan, So this would have been a great commentary
WB would have to pay them. They didn’t want to pay Ahna Capri for her 8mm behind the scenes film 😂
Best.
Thanks, Tom. I found it. Wow. I wonder where this came from. Amazing.
Cheers pal 👍
They have another ultimate edition that is limited to 1000 but isn't numbered, doesn't make any sense.
Just buy the Arrow 50th Anniversary!
It's on pre-order fella 👍
I'm assuming they'll be releasing a standard 4k edition at some point?
I would think so, Michael. I just hope we get the theatrical cut 4K UHD.
cheers fella 👍
Cheers pal
Sad and disrespectful no attempt to give this historic film a 50th release worth buying .. common Warner Brothers even your sleeve art sucks .
Your honest opinion means a lot of people wont part with hard earned cash its a no from me .
Isn't the introduction the same one that's been attached to the movie since the days of VHS?
I have no idea, Gary, we'll find out, I guess.
I wish they would do that, Sean. cheers pal
What a let-down... And they didn't even think to include that previously unseen 20 minute monkey kung fu fight scene that Beardy told us all about. lol.
😆🤣
Well Stripey my friend, i knew what was coming there with WB, so I'm not in the
least surprised, and like yourself, I'm waiting for the Arrow set which I've ordered
from HMV.
We're watching the 50th anniversary of The Wicker Man, also in Stockport, on 4K,
on the big screen.
The 1973 version is getting a 4K 5 disc set coming out later this year (will be getting this)
take care you guys 👍
👍👍
I now what you mean mate, there are tons of Hall of mirrors out takes still in the warner archive to be seen etc and the Chinese guys making of footage to be released.
They could have paid for the Ahna Capri 8mm video (that's on RUclips) WB are cheapskates, David. Such a shame for us Bruce fans. cheers mate
You can buy just the standard 4K version for £19.99
I've got it on pre-order fella.
@@StripeyR I’m not sure which one to get now the steelbook set or the standard 4K one. I do already own the Blu-ray set that you have.
@@MrTonybirdi There are THREE to choose from. HMV have a limited 50th Anniversary Cine Edition with Steelbook hmv.com/store/film-tv/4k-ultra-hd-blu-ray/enter-the-dragon-(hmv-exclusive)-steelbook
It's up to you mate.
The HMV & Ultimate Collectors Edition are limited, so if you buy the standard, you could regret not getting on of these limited editions, but the choice is yours.
I got the standard 2 disc set. I have pretty much all those extras (the steelbooks do look great tho.
Good Luck 👍
@@StripeyR Which steelbook one do you think is the best? The Cine edition one or the other one?
Most of the cast now have pass away to make new special features
There are tons of Bruce Lee & film experts that could have made something, not to mention Sammo Hung & Jackie Chan, who both worked on ETD. WB are just in it for the cash (in my humble opinion)
cheers Pal
What I’ll be doing is swapping over the Arrow blu ray with the Warner 4K so I’ll have all the 4Ks in Arrow’s Bruce Lee Golden Harvest box set.
They could’ve teamed up with Arrow & let them do the job of doing all the extras & commentaries for the 4K release.
That's actually not a bad idea, mate. I think the ETD 40th is gonna spoil the arrow set (a little) such a wasted & missed opportunity. I only WB let Arrow do something special.
Hey Ho, it is what it is I guess.
cheers pal.
I'll skip this one and get the arrow release 👍
I wonder if it will be censored like The French Connection! 😂
These days, nothing would surprise me, Simon. 🤣😆
This is a huge pass for sure. No effort in quality or quantity. Thanks Warners🤦♂️ Arrow really showing them how it should be done with the Golden Harvest boxset. Really wanted a 4k copy of ETD as well.
Me too, mate, although I kinda susspected this from WB. At least we have the Arrow set to look forward to.
cheers fella
The movie is 50 years old and you’re expecting new things?!? Even John Saxon has passed away ( about 3 years ago ) An interview with him or commentary would have been an interesting addition. The director Robert Clouse died in 1997 just before DVD 📀 commentaries took off. Basically you’re expecting fresh blood 🩸 out of an old stone
There are others still around, Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan & Angela Mao + many Bruce Lee experts Matthew Polly & Bey Logan, to name a few.
@@ShanghaiRooster I totally agree 100% fella
just seen the Big Boss Mandarin print on the big screen . The extra footage does fill a few gaps and strings it together nicely .......... but no extra gore or combat scenes , boo !
Wow, Mick, I'd have loved to have seen it on a big screen (I'll have to wait for the Arrow set I guess)
I didn't expect any more fight scenes but it'll be cool to see some extra footage.
cheers pal
@@StripeyR ruclips.net/video/d3FiTHdyTJg/видео.html nice little Doc ...... are these 4K clips ?
WB should have hours upon hurs of bruce lee ETD fight footage,,where has all that gone plus ,there must be loads of mirror footage and we have only ever seen abt 15 mins of outtake footage,,i think WB has lost all the bruce lee footage as explains why they keep giving us the same interviews or documentarys on every new release these past 45 years 🤭
I think a lot just got destroyed, Sam, but a least make a new documentary, some new audio commentaries, rare image gallery & a new 4K trailer, just something new.
cheers pal
@@StripeyR totally agree with you ,wished i asked these questions to Shannon lee and jim kelly when i met them at a bruce lee convention in uk Birmingham in 94 and 94 ,,and yes i still have there photos signed 👍
,👍
I dont give a shit about extras, just want a nice scan.
I want a nice scan too, but some new extras would have been nice (we've had the same ones for 25 years now)
I don't even think the Linda Lee introduction will be new.
Agree, mate, 100%. I'll be getting the bare bones release too. Ultimate Collectors Edition my ass.
cheers pal
