- Tom, who was half of the Smothers Brothers comedy team, died Tuesday following a battle with cancer, the National Comedy Center announced.

Doubt that he did what he did for recognition from ABC morning show. They were an iconic pair, beloved and appreciated for their unique approach to comedy. Tommy was a jewel. RIP 😢
They were a huge part of my pre-teen Sunday nights, when my family would gather to watch them. Remember Glen Campbell getting his first really big break because of them, swooned over The Buckinghams when they appeared on the show, and remember when and why they were abruptly cancelled. Though their commentaries on the Vietnam war seem frivolous by today's standards, back then it was beyond unacceptable and scandelous. Such a shame, because they were brilliant at making people not only smile with their comedic timing, but also THINK, when the ones responsible for such unnecessary losses and suffering would have wished that you DIDN'T. Rest in Peace, Tommy...
I remember them from when l was 11 and missed them when their show was cancelled.😢

Well I watched the show with my mom as a kid and it was shear genius to me, all this other stuff went right over my head. Thanks for the video. What love they had for each other. You'd think they were identical twins the way they got on.

In high school I had given up watching t.v. so that I could concentrate on my studies in order to get good grades; but there was one and only one television show I would always take a break to watch: The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour every Sunday night. What a pleasure it was to watch, and Tom Smothers was certainly an influence in my life.
Tommy Smothers was a beautiful kind loving soul. He was a great comedian with incredible timing, a great singer, a great guitar and banjo player, a great yo yo master, a loving husband and father and brother to Dick and his younger sister Sherry who passed earlier this year. It was Tom who taught his brother Dick how to play the stand up bass fiddle. And truth be told.... Tom, your mom may have liked Dick the best, but she LOVED YOU the best!❤

RIP Tom Smothers, we graduated from the same high school at Redondo Union and I remember doing a project on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour for my film crit class. Definitely a champion of free speech!

as a youngster, i was a fan of their 1966 tv series "my brother the angel"...i guess tommy knew his days were numbered ..just in November his Glenn Ellen, ca. home and vineyard sold for millions under the original asking price ..

Their show was boldly innovative for that day and age....but their Icarus moment came with poking the bear over rapid escalation of government subsidized lunacy in vietnam....and a LOT of strings got pulled behind the scenes...
