In order to hit those longer irons well, you have to have decent club head speed and good ball striking. Anything below 88 MPH will be difficult to really compress and launch any 5 iron.
Those Mizuno forged are more of a players distance irons. Need to be a really good ball striker to really play these good. I think the hot metal would be a better club for you, maybe sim 2’s or ping g710.
First, I don't know why you didn't hit irons off the tee if you're evaluating irons, and secondly, your swing seems to favor a GI club, but I honestly don't know if that set qualifies. Thanks
Yeah, appreciate the feedback. I’d say to go look at my subsequent review videos to see the swing improvements: Ping Blueprint, Titleist T200, etc. GI irons such as Cobra Rad, Callaway Apex DCB, Titleist T300... they just aren’t appropriate for me. Way too much distance, way too little spin. Plus I just don’t like how chunky those types of irons look behind the ball. To your first point, I only game irons up to a 5-iron. And I wasn’t about to start hitting 5-irons off the tee on 500 yard 5’s and 400 yard 4’s. I still hit them everywhere else. But I wasn’t about to start torturing myself further. And as you can tell by the way I was swinging that day, I didn’t need further punishment. My game that day was punishment enough.
Good luck - keep in mind stock zunos are going to be at least 1 degree flatter than other manufacturers. Not a golf pro but that wont mesh with your steep swing especially as you get into longer clubs. Make sure whatever get fits. If ypu want to fix steep plenty of good u tubers out there to stop “pulling down the handle”. I prefer the sharpie line on ball to test lie angle vs lie board.
Yeah, swing is a constant work in progress. You are absolutely correct about the lie angle. And if I keep these Mizuno's, I will get that adjusted. That said, I'm relatively certain there is a better club out there for me. Currently, the TaylorMade P770's are the leader in the clubhouse.
You really should go get fitted to make sure you have the right shaft. I’m not a Modus fan at all but the swing analyzer is the real deal for giving you options. And remember, the Mizzi’s are flatter so you will see more fades unless you get the lie angle checked out as well. I got 921F for Christmas (shhh). I have 919’s now in HMP, Forged and Tour and mix and match them up. HMP just too much draw bias and hook them. Tours are beautiful but I have to be on point to hit them. I split them with my forged in the scoring clubs and like that the new ones are smaller. Great video!
Yeah, I snagged those Mizuno’s a little abruptly. I have multiple fitters I could go back to on lie angle and shaft. I’m convinced that the two best shafts out there for me are the KBS Tour 120 and Dynamic Gold 120. Thanks for the feedback!
Matt - Could you review the Cobra Tour MIM irons? I think that these would be a possible replacement for your irons. I am in the process of replacing my JPX 825 tour irons and have enjoyed watching your reviews.
Most golfers would get more out of money spent on lessons rather than new clubs. I still have weekly lessons. I play Mizuno JPX921 Tour (pw- 7) and Reg forged version 6-4 iron.
Yeah, I started taking lessons this winter as well. Its going well. But I do the reviews simply because despite you being totally right, a majority of golfers of all handicaps still love buying new equipment.
Good luck with those lessons. I’m finding that a lot of what I was taught about golf when I started has changed. As a result I’m now turning better , swaying less and using my feet and legs properly. It’s rejuvenated my game and I’m looking forward to the coming season. Feels like -2C today with the windchill so winter golf for me is just for fun and to get ready for March/ April.
Yep, I was straight up bad that day. Just bad. That said, I still know even on bad days what my ball striking should feel like, even when I’m off. Plus, I’ve had other rounds with these irons that I didn’t film. So I have an idea of how they are feeling for me. But to your point, yep, I was bad that day.
@@MattWilliamsGolf yep we know those days. I hack around on a 10 with some 20 year old Maruman Blades which will likely get me to single figures. Seems like a lot of emphasis is put in to having the latest technology when in the end its really about having a solid swing and putting stroke. With confidence. Thanks for replying.
Eh, agree and disagree at the same time. I played terrible that day, and posted it anyways (mainly because I didn't want to shoot it again.) That said, every player has a bent towards certain equipment and settings. That is why professional club fitting is so crucial. Not every club is going to be the right club for every golfer.
Just got a set of the JPX 921 forged In 7-G then the hot metal pros in 4-6 love the combo set
Nice. What did you have, and what is your handicap?

Yeah, those certainly could be a possibility. And thanks so much for the feedback and support! Lots more reviews coming.

way too much talk
Yeah, I just skipped along through the weather updates.
Also when he made commentary in spite of saying he wouldn’t do so?
I don't think you played that well. To be fair your striking looked off?

Totally agree, you did an honest review , keep up the videos
