In regards to the bigfry schtick, I think I have a theory as to why players like him are so bad at Forever Winter: They don’t get the point. When they’re given a gun In this game (or any game, for that matter), their first instinct is to shoot everything that moves, as that’s what early shooters like Doom and CoD taught them. Forever Winter isn’t like that. Every time you pull the trigger, you’re only hurting yourself. And if you go in guns blazing, you WILL get blazed sooner or later. You are wasting your own time 😂 we'd all be here watching anyways.
From everything I've seen so far (official launch content & youtube reviewers) you are the lowest priority target at baseline. There is a threat system in game that helps the AI determine what needs to die the fastest. Same weight-class units will prioritize attacking others of their size, but it's possible to have a threat level high enough that you catch even the mech's and tank's attention as a target (ie: you started a mission carrying high explosives and an anti-materiel rifle) If you're the ONLY target, you will still be shot at. It does feel like the melee enemies seem to be hyper aggressive though and might have a preference for anything close by.
It's part of the game's weight and threat system. Depending on how much gear you're carrying and how much of a threat you are to the enemy factions, they will either ignore you or target you. Having good gear and strong weapons might seem nice as it makes it easier to fight off enemies, but it also means that the enemy factions can no longer ignore you and will open fire on sight.
@@ChrisBri77on The one major issue I saw in some play videos was melee seems overpowered right now (for enemies) players with 1,600 health being instantly one-shot by even common man sized enemies with melee attacks. Guns seemed balanced however, even a direct hit with an RPG didn't one-shot a player, but it got close to it.

At this point everyone knows the state of the game. If it’s too early and buggy for you then don’t buy it. But I find it hard to say even in its current state that this game doesn’t have the “it” factor. There’s like 20 guys working on this thing and they made it pretty clear they are looking for help and feedback during EA. They probably need the funds too to keep going. I think 27 bucks is fair just even to explore this world they created.
I agree with you there, for me, there are definitely some typical early access headaches they need to sort, but the world building and passion goes a LONG way to customer good will.
I'm already spending money for this, but the extraction scene of just 'plop' you disappear fade to black, ehh, could use some finishing touches down the road. 🎉🎉🎉
I'm getting this game regardless. The devs are so fuckin based. It's genuinely so refreshing to hear devs being upfront, honest and on level with their players..
Doesn't matter if the devs are base or whatever. If they can't deliver a good product in the end, its you who are in the wrong and wasted your money. And i can tell you right now, don't waste your money. Because this game will never be good. Simply because the devs don't have the competence/know-how how to develop a game like this. There is already so much basic stuff wrong and not working. No chance they'll ever get it right. 30 years of failed video gaming industry says so!
Solid point! Then again if people wanted "real life" difficulty they'd join the military, sign up for a combat MOS, and go to war. Has its moments but most wouldn't openly consider that fun without being labeled a psychopath. Looking forward to this game personally.
it's more difficult due to the buggy AI and unbalanced spawn points/movement speed etc If it's that fixed and works as intent, game would be much easier
There are multiple extraction points in every mission, only SOME of them have timers like that, others are instant extraction. The easy to get to ones have the timers and enemy spawns it seems. So you can avoid these entirely if you want to.
I'm so excited for this game. Some of my best moments in PvP extraction shooters are when I'm playing solo, hiding while squads are killing each other right around the corner from me, and I get to loot whatever is left. This looks like the whole game is built around those moments. And the aesthetic is just incredible.

I can definitely see this game garnering a very dedicated and loyal community of players. I’m usually never intrigued by games anymore, but this one caught my eye.
Seeing the units from different factions engage each other was really cool. However they need to carefully manage their AI quality here, in a PvE game like this that's basically the star of the show. After this footage I'm kind of interested in this game.
I often play games for 3 days, then play other games for 2 weeks before coming back. But I'm guessing that's not possible with the water bullshhhh. "No playing other games, you got to keep that water up or you lose VENDER PROGRESSION COMPLETLY. AND ALL ITEMS." If the water only goes down when logged in, sure. But if it's burning through water while I'm playing a Core Keeper or Terraria playthrough with friends, and it removes all my venders and items. I'M INSTANTLY Deleting. P.S I am excited to play, looks like great fun, but again, if the games gonna delete all my items and venders because I wasn't playing for 2 weeks I'm honestly probably never gonna play again.
I think the one thing I would want to see change is Extraction. Take it off a timer, slap it at some vault door, or ladders that take several seconds to open and start rather then just... "you're here now, please wait.." otherwise, I'm sure all those early deaths once you understand hte maps, the shadows, how detection works, it will be fun with some friends.
from what ive seen in different videos it depends on the extract. some are just press e to extract instantly. others are timed. some are locked behind faction rep.
The extraction is not based on a vehicle, elevator, or teleporter, the idea is that you just walk away from the combat zone, so I think extraction should work on fast travel logic, i.e. you cannot extract while enemies are nearby, at least not when any of them are searching for you.
Wow.... would you look at that! Someone who understands the game and didn't uninstall after failing one mission like some 12 year old child. Thank you for an honest display and understanding about how the game works and is intended to be played. Great overview, commentary and gameplay.
Thank you for that Verlix! I hope i made it clear that this is not a review and more a preview of my experience! It's very much Early Access, but there's so much going for it.
@@DTOXTV You did a great job at explaining everything. Clear and concise with footage inserted at the correct moments to highlight your commentary and get your point across. This will be the video I point everyone towards when it comes to explaining what FW is and the goal of the overall game. More importantly, how the developers intended for it to be played. There aren't a lot of anti-shooters in the market so this concept is one that needs to be both explained and showcased to get the point across as clearly as possible. Keep up the good work, looking forward to your future videos.
god that last extraction had me forward in my seat on edge. Was a random cyborg group gonna show up at extract for the 7th time. And i was just watching your gameplay. looks frustrating but still fun. Definetly worth the price, I'm hoping overtime with more testers they can get things just right!
I really like the premise that you're a "nobody" that could get destroyed easily at any second by the on-going war. It adds a constant tension and fear to the raids.
The premise looks great and the environments look beautifully dark -truly breathtaking. However, the lack of something as crucial as shoulder swapping in a 3D person POV is alarming -even if it’s to get a better camera angle. The gunplay is terrible -regardless if you’re supposed to be scavs and is built around “stealth”. I understand that this is releasing in EA but that doesn’t mean it can’t be too early. If they got bullied into putting this out because of an overwhelming amount of request/, it should have been done thru a demo or play testing not asking $27. Donate to the devs if you’re truly passionate about the project bc when it comes out and people shit on it for its current state, it’s only going to hurt the morale of the dev team. I have about 2000 hours on EFT so I’m not afraid of the “hardcore” aspect.
Love when games include different factions fighting each other and you get to see it firsthand like in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Roadkill (old Playstation 2 game), Space Pirates and Zombies (S.P.A.Z.), and an old Flash game called Flash Trek.
Only jarring issue I've seen is watching massive walkers that must weigh hundreds of tons glitch grinding up against flimsy infrastructure they'd otherwise break through or crush underfoot. Hoping they get that dialed in. All said, a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things.
This was a really helpful glimpse into what to expect. I'm really not an extraction shooter type of person, but the world is so fascinating. I want to take time to live in it and learn about it, meet its inhabitants. Did you get a sense of that when you were at home base? I know I'm in the minority here, but lore aspects are what keep me coming back.
The vibes are a big selling point, but your home base is more like an interactive element of the menu interactions for the most part. The game is thick with atmosphere but couldn't tell you about the lore gameplay wise. Quests are simple missions to give you an extra purpose inside a raid! Don't buy into it yet if you're looking for a "story" experience! Hope this helps.
Great video. Plenty of information there that a lot of other videos lack. Loving the brutal look of the game. Looking forward having this game kick me in the balls repeatedly.
This game feels like the 1917 movie but set in a world that is a mixture of WH40K, Blade Runner and 1984: Even before the apocalyptic war the citizens or Eurasia knew they were basically private property of "Tyrell Corporation/Wayland Yutani" and those of Europa that "Big Brother is watching them". What they didn't yet know was that "In the grimm darkness of the far future, there is only war" 😅

I am not even the target audience, but it looks hella atmospheric. If they can nail the AI so the maps and encounters don't feel scripted, but still predictable so the players can run around the battles and scavenge, it could be a lot of fun.
I'm in. The potential amount of content is out of bounds. I hope they put some work into the meta game and that the choices you make deliver a satisfying story, assuming there is one.😅 Notwithstanding, as long as they fix the AI and I can get into a mech suit at some point, I should be happy. Something simple as not holding a weapon or not aiming it should be considered before you get aggroed. Also I'm wondering about non-lethal items like smoke grenades, decoys, EMP devices and the like since I haven't seen anything yet and it seems like they would be handier dealing with hordes of killing machines than a rusty shotgun. Lastly, being that the factions rely mostly on AI, cybernetics and robots; Surely hacking is a thing. It could be a very deep game mechanic that you could build a character around. So yeah, lots of potential early access + factorio v2.0 is making this October the most hyped I've been about gaming in a long time!

Thank you for doing this first look, right. It's obviously in very early development and you are already getting the concept of the game. It's meant to be challenging, it's meant to not be a run and gun. People assume difficult just means that the game is bad.
This looks super cool! Though I think the inventory menu could do with being cleaned up so you can keep an eye on your surroundings better. It's bad (scary, but great) enough being prey all the time without being blind whilst looting.
I have been calling this game rat simulator and i think thats pretty accurate and not at all a bad thing, we are literally rats picking away at a battlefield trying to survive another day. Im keen and i am absolutely playing this long term.
I'm really liking the general feel and direction this game is going towards. I like that you, as a player, aren't the main character/one man army type guy, instead you're nothing more than a human(i think?) scavenger, up against cyborgs and other machines that will level you flat within a second if you let them. However as nice as all of this is, since this is a PvE shooter, the game will stand and fall with the AI and server performance, it needs to be near-perfect. Even if everything else is awesome and good but the enemies behave poorly, it will fail. If the AI isn't lag-free, people will be frustrated and move on because they got better things to do than be be killed by de-syncs between the AI and the player, if they behave clunky and stupid, immersion will be lost and fights will become cheesy. It's gonna be difficult but I wish them all the best.

Trying to be a one-man army is nothing short of self destruction.
it's crazy to see gamers once again eating up early access slop, this game will go nowhere.
it's a resource hungry overly demanding game for piss poor gameplay, it's an art project disguised as a video game, it has worse AI than PSP handheld metal gear games, worse stealth than 2006 xbox splinter cell games and worse gunplay than halo from 2001, nothing about it besides the art is anything worth noting unless you started playing games 2 years ago and all you know is fortnite

So basically this game is earth after the dark age of technology, but before the emperor got everyone rallied together

40k is boring compared to Forever Winter.
Actually thinking about it, it would be closer to Mars during the early days of its own technological "development" after the dark age collapse.
Multiple factions fighting for power.
They all use advanced tech.
Some of them use heavy mechanical body augmentation.
Human experimantation for the sake of science and war.
Religions about praying to literal machinery and AI poping up and being wide spread.
I guess. I find it a bit reductionist to make that comparison. Thematically, this game is more similar to "this war of mine."
@@ZackSavage its reductionist to compare anything to anything. thematically it has nothing in common with 40k or this war of mine. Its its own unique thing that ive not really seen in any media. being such an insignificant pawn that you arent even on the chess board is something present in lots of media, but its also present IRL.
These days it feels a lot of gamers and media quickly write-off games on the most superficial, fixable elements; bugs/glitches etc. It is so rare to see a game with such a uniquely compelling, cohesive concept, especially in 2024. Bugs can be patched, but the fundamental art-style, lore and world supporting the game cannot be.

Dont like it, dont play it. Easy.
You really dont realize how ridiculous you look, dont you? 😂
@@doom8274 what AAA studio burned you with an early access??? Serious question, not being sarcastic.
Smaller or dedicated studios that take early access seriously have released some of the best games of the past decade. Balders gate 3, slay the spire are a quick two.
If you don't trust early access, I feel that, but why jump in comments just to hate if you don't have faith in it.
Edit : nvm, fuck off. Too lazy to even type up separate arguments in your comments. You are wasting your own time 😂 we'd all be here watching anyways.
Doom was just in frys video comments defending him there too. Maybe it is just him. Seems obsessed
Seriously why are you so obsessed?
I think not firing until you are struck is key, a lot of the ai appears to ignore you unless you shoot them.
From everything I've seen so far (official launch content & youtube reviewers) you are the lowest priority target at baseline. There is a threat system in game that helps the AI determine what needs to die the fastest. Same weight-class units will prioritize attacking others of their size, but it's possible to have a threat level high enough that you catch even the mech's and tank's attention as a target (ie: you started a mission carrying high explosives and an anti-materiel rifle)
If you're the ONLY target, you will still be shot at. It does feel like the melee enemies seem to be hyper aggressive though and might have a preference for anything close by.
@@ChrisBri77on That's pretty cool. This is a game I'll keep on my watchlist until it's matured a bit more in development.
Common man sized enemies should still be much stronger than a common scavenger
we really need more stealth options , basically mgs 5 stuff , lay on the ground , cammo , smoke / chaff granades , mines , decoys , silencers , lures etc
Look clunky as hell and screams pre-alpha and raw even for Early Access, but I honestly can't f*cking wait! Gonna give the devs the benefit of the doubt and support their work and hope for a better and finished product in the future. They freaking deserve.

Man that last battle before extraction!! so epic
I'm sure they're working on something other than the character poofing away
I'm getting this game regardless. The devs are so fuckin based.
It's genuinely so refreshing to hear devs being upfront, honest and on level with their players..
EXACTLY!
I don't know how much I'll play it after the first month or so, BUT, reward the people doing the good work to bring back our hobby.
@@halsaufschneider1446 And you know this how?

@stopper0203 and much more survivable as the point of that game is, in fact, to fight. As opposed to forever winter.
There are multiple extraction points in every mission, only SOME of them have timers like that, others are instant extraction. The easy to get to ones have the timers and enemy spawns it seems. So you can avoid these entirely if you want to.
@@johnmclain250 awesome! The game definitely has my interest
I'm so excited for this game. Some of my best moments in PvP extraction shooters are when I'm playing solo, hiding while squads are killing each other right around the corner from me, and I get to loot whatever is left. This looks like the whole game is built around those moments. And the aesthetic is just incredible.
yeah i'm a total loot goblin and not the best at shooters all the time but can hit when it counts (...usually) so this game is up my ally, especially since i like doing quick and stealthy stuff

Seeing the units from different factions engage each other was really cool. However they need to carefully manage their AI quality here, in a PvE game like this that's basically the star of the show. After this footage I'm kind of interested in this game.
Agreed
This game seems to have a lot of potential
the fact that I was nervous just watching the gameplay shows me they nailed what they were going for
That slowly revealing loot reveal will be the death of my nerves.
I love how they told you not to treat it like a review as it's early early access, yet the game looks absolutely amazing
My man expects an issue he made up in his head. Wait for early access
We’re so far away from the finished product but I’m so hype for this game to release.
12:54 I can see so many people risking extracting to loot those bodies 😅
I'm so ready for this! Love me some early access jank, PvE extraction?! Even better!
That random tank running him down was pretty amusing. Get off the road. Just remember that, to a tank, everywhere is the road.
Really looking forward to this one, I love the different perspective they went for. Very clever way to stand out next to HD2 and SM2.
Appreciate how transparent you are with your communication with the devs. Will be interested to see how this launches in early access!
god that last extraction had me forward in my seat on edge. Was a random cyborg group gonna show up at extract for the 7th time. And i was just watching your gameplay. looks frustrating but still fun. Definetly worth the price, I'm hoping overtime with more testers they can get things just right!
Looks promising, the UI needs a major amount of TLC ;)
I really like the premise that you're a "nobody" that could get destroyed easily at any second by the on-going war. It adds a constant tension and fear to the raids.
Ngl this looks absolutely amazing. Cant wait to get my hands on it
The premise looks great and the environments look beautifully dark -truly breathtaking.
You might not be a Space Marine, but you are playing on Terra during the Age of Strife.
Extraction timer be like timing the microwave to turn off at 3 am in the morning
Love when games include different factions fighting each other and you get to see it firsthand like in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Roadkill (old Playstation 2 game), Space Pirates and Zombies (S.P.A.Z.), and an old Flash game called Flash Trek.
Nice video!

11:13 That tank running you over was funny as hell, man!
The mechs are legitimately terrifying
Only jarring issue I've seen is watching massive walkers that must weigh hundreds of tons glitch grinding up against flimsy infrastructure they'd otherwise break through or crush underfoot. Hoping they get that dialed in. All said, a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things.
Agreed. They need more weight!
Really looking forward to this one. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
Those cyborgs are like a pack of very hungry, very fast wolves.
@@DTOXTV thanks man! Appreciate your perspective on this!

bruh this camera sway is killing me
I am not even the target audience, but it looks hella atmospheric. If they can nail the AI so the maps and encounters don't feel scripted, but still predictable so the players can run around the battles and scavenge, it could be a lot of fun.
This looks so refreshing in a world full of Concord-like games.
0:09 That Merkava Mk.4M did not care at all that you were there.

The sightline isn't narrow - you're so under-geared that the soldiers don't see you as a threat. They see you, they're just ignoring you.
I'm in. The potential amount of content is out of bounds. I hope they put some work into the meta game and that the choices you make deliver a satisfying story, assuming there is one.😅
Notwithstanding, as long as they fix the AI and I can get into a mech suit at some point, I should be happy.

Im so happy this project is picking up traction
I have been calling this game rat simulator and i think thats pretty accurate and not at all a bad thing, we are literally rats picking away at a battlefield trying to survive another day. Im keen and i am absolutely playing this long term.
How outrageous that you didn't loot just before the extract xD I love the vibe of the game
