Baldur's Gate 3 - The Mystic Dagger (Build Request)

- Опубликовано: 26 авг 2024
- Hi all! I was asked to do a throwing dagger build, and so I've decided to show that off today. Throwing builds are some of the most powerful in the game, and this one is no exception. This build follows the standard throwing build procedure for the most part, so I decided to get a bit funky with the equipment, trying to capture the style of a Rogue without actually being one.
Side note, no video this weekend. My final Halloween build will be on Halloween itself, and it's one hell of a video...
EDIT: In this video I said that you can only use Enraged Throw once per turn. This is NOT TRUE! You can add Thief Rogue to this build and do four throws per turn, in addition to adding sneak attack to the damage. A stronger build would probably be Eldritch Knight 6/Berserker Barbarian 3/Thief Rogue 3.

Great Build, I tested damage from Dueling - The 2pts were not added to the damage output throwing a knife while it is equipped or not equipped. I checked from over 5meters away as well as with in 1 meter, and from a height, all did not add the 2 pts of damage. I was using a strength build not Dex
Thanks for confirming!
Yeah, it was in an older build of the game where bonuses from Dueling or Great Weapon Fighting were applied to thrown weapons as long as the character had them equipped while the thrown weapon was in flight.
Unfortunately, this has been patched out since Patch 2 or 3.
2:34 you tell no lies! That generic light armor is easily S-tier for fashion!
Sussur dagger doesn't proc silence if thrown, only when used on melee. Tested it before, you can see if it procs or not if a saving throw result appears above your target
A build video every day and no end in sight, truly an awesome game with endless possibilities, and also congrats to you for bringing all these builds to life ❤
I just wanna say I watched this as a break from studying during an all nighter, and when you spun the character and said "it makes the physics go weeeeeeeeeeeeee" i genuinely smiled for the first time in HOURS. thank you, i needed that.
Whatever you're studying for, you'll nail it!
This build is the closest we can get to a soulknife rogue in BG, one of my favorite classes to play in tabletop D&D, will try it with the dip in thief for the extra bonus action, nice vídeo
great fun throwing, the drude spore class adds the 1d6 to all thrown attacks as well, will try to combine it in some way, graceful armour would get you the extra dex, leaving you free to get to 20 in strength early
OMG YAY!!!!! 😁😁 TY so much for doing my request 😍
Any time!
Yay, i saw nine-fingers fight and was wondering how to make it work as a build
keep em coming, loving these builds
I would have been tempted to stay fighter the whole way, since they get a 3rd attack naturally at 11. So the action surge grants 3 extra attacks.
But thats a good multiclass all the same.
You still get 3 attacks with this build, with the third attack being stronger than normal.
@@HoboZone well it has the benefits of rage, but the penalty from berserker stacks up after a few turns, penalizing all of your future attacks... as far as I know, that's how the berserker attack still works.
The penalty only applies on Frenzied Strike, not Frenzied Throw. You can keep throwing with no penalty and the throw is more powerful than normal AND can knock enemies prone.
@@HoboZone I know the text always read that it didn't penalize the throw, but I remember seeing the penalty appear anyways back in the day. I know the first patch never changed it, maybe it got fixed later on.
You know, you could easily reskin this into a Kratos build. The classes fit him perfectly, and you just need to replace the dagger with an axe and you're set. Either way, amazing build as always! I (and I'm sure everyone else) really appreciate all the hard work you're putting in to pump out so many builds. Keep it up!
You can use Reckless Attack bonus if the first attack you do in your round is in melee, then it will be applied to all of the subsequents throws
Now I can play as William Knifeman
You seemed to have not realized (i certainly didn't in my playthrough), but throwing the susser dagger will never give the silence affliction.
i believe everlasting vigor is able to take you over 20
I did an Eldritch Knight throwing build. When it works, it's great, but it bugs out a lot for me. I lost count of the times where my weapon ignored my features and didn't return to my hand. I probably should have just used daggers and didn't bother with weapon bonding.
also worth noting, you can use enraged throw any amount of times per turn as long as you have bonus actions, only enraged strike is limited to once per turn
Yes I updated the description with this not long after the video released.
Awesome build!! Can I also request a dexterity throwing build? Like no tavern brawler and more like a roguish, precision character which is very skillful and mobile. It doesn’t have to be nearly as meta as this one but more for the role-playing purpose with some satisfying abilities and synergy?
I imagine of some kind of monk/rogue, wuxia-flavor knife master, but I can’t figure how it’s going to work.
You'd still need Eldritch Knight levels to make this work without needing to keep every knife you find in your inventory as no daggers have the homing weapon feature.
If you want Monk and Rogue, you're probably looking at Eldritch Knight 3/Shadow Monk 5/ Thief Rogue 4.
Using this set-up, dual wield daggers. You get two throwing attacks with your main hand and two off-hand attacks as well.
As far as equipment goes, Gloves of Uninhibited Kishigo and Ring of Flinging are mandatory. The rest is kinda up to you.
@@HoboZoneawesome, man. Thank you so much!!!
Very cool concept, thanks for the build! Would sneak attack work with this if you took levels in rogue instead of barbarian?
According to the comments, apparently so!
very cool build
I'd like to see a build that gets the most value out of short rests.
That's a Blade Warlock 5/Swords Bard 7 with the Durable Feat. You get 3 short rests, recover full hp on all of them, and have extra spell slots.
Just put up a throwing dwarf barb run. Wanna get that big dwarfen thrower from act3...
I enjoy your builds so keep up the good work! :) Just a question, and maybe it's just for flavor. Why did you go for Barb 4 instead of just taking Fighter to 12? You get the 3rd attack constantly at EK11 + a 4th feat when taking it to 12. Either way seems fun!
Because of Rage. Rage adds more damage to throws and the Enraged Throw from Berserker does more damage and knocks enemies prone.
They need to give us soulknife already...
If you take throwable spear you it will make d8 dmage instead d4 from dagger, also you can take spear from act II wich will make d4 additional damage
Yes I did say this in the video, but the request was for a throwing *dagger* build.
From what I understand throwing in bg3 is considered an unarmed attack
I have a request for build... 2 level ranger only for hail of thorns spell 6 levels war domain cleric and 4 levels sorcerer... The reason behind this is that hail of thorns is a spell who deals weapon dmg plus 1d10 aoe... If you upcast it gets stronger plus applies all buffs and abilities of the bow which using the caster like (Gontr Mael)
Hi friend! Could I suggest a build I've been trying to make? I want to try- a rogue/gloomstalker multiclass but dip into GOO warlock. I'm unsure how to tech/play it out though.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Like what features from each do you want?
@HoboZone I'm right now trying to come up with something that really exploits the fear mechanic from the GOO criticals with the rogue and then the gloomstalker's benefits for that burst damage on the first turn. I'm kinda stuck between assassin or thief plus how to spread leveling. My big thing with leveling being I need to figure out a way to not delay the extra attack to get the build online sooner. I think it would make for a really cool thematic dark urge bhaalist control build.
@@HoboZone Also, just realized I wasn't subscribed and I've been watching your videos daily. Sorry!!
I feel like you'll have a better time if you go Assassin first. That's going to get you stealth expertise and your high damage, single attacks, which are much more valuable in the early game. Since you get Dread Ambusher at Ranger 3, you'll feel like the build has taken effect a bit earlier. As if you have a once-per-battle extra attack. You won't feel as bad getting extra attack later than usual. You could take the Warlock dip anywhere in this process, maybe right after getting Assassin, to have it where it will most useful (early game). You could also go back to Warlock later for invocations.
Overall, I'd say: Assassin Rogue 4/GOO Warlock 2/Ranger 5 to get the most out of all your classes. The order you take these levels is up to you.
I would play this character as a bit of a scout, sneaking in and taking out enemies one-by-one stealthily until a big battle is inevitable, then you pull the rest of the party in.
Probably not my best work as this is just off the top of my head, but I hope this works for you.
Perfect! Thank you so much! 😊
Does getting 3 monk to buff the dagger to a d6 make sense? It’s probably not worth it over getting the 3 feats but I feel like it’ll help in the leveling process
Does the Sussur dagger silence effect work when thrown? I tested it with my thrower build and it didn't work, but I didn't check if it involved a saving throw that I just didn't see.
You can use enraged throw twice as long as you you rage and have the thief subclass I have it on my playthrough
confirmed, I've been doing this with Karlach. Add in an elixer of Blood lust, and she goes mental. If she gets a kill, up to 6 attacks per turn, only issue I've been having is there's been a few times when she's taken huge damage herself from the returning pike when it comes back to her.....oh and NEVER use her to throw a potion of healing at a fallen companion.....*cough* she killed a fallen companion doing that.
Yes I had to go back and test it myself. I corrected it in the description.
@@HoboZone oh ok I didn't check that lol. So far in my thrower playthrough I went 5 lvls in berserker and 3 in thief with tavern brawler feat at lvl 4. I'm gonna end up barb 8/thief 4 but don't know what other 2 feats to take
By having the thief subclass, do you get any dmg bonus if your first throw is from stealth?
If you're talking about sneak attack then no
Is anyone here after the new patch?? My throwing build is absolutely wrecked and unplayable now
Throwing took a nerf but Improvised Weapons got a buff. Since it's the same set-up, you could do that.
@@HoboZone I suppose.. just sucks idk why they have to fix something that doesn't need fixed.. bind weapon is basically pointless now, and the weapon i have... just makes me not want to even finish this PT
Not a single dagger was thrown in this vid
Did... did you not watch the video? There's a combat showcase at the end showing the daggers being thrown.
That one lvl1 fight?
Noooice
You could just add 3 levels into rogue - Assassin and get 3 to 5 crit thrown daggers
Hey. What is about using Ring of Risk, in comination with 1 level of rough for sneak attack? It also works with Throwing
I mean, it should work, but the disadvantage on saving throws is kinda iffy for me.
I could've sworn Frenzied Throw could be used more than once per turn...
-You would think so, but no. I've been using a build that mixes Thief with Berserker, and you can't use either bonus action feature more than once per turn.-
You CAN use and improvised weapon attack as a bonus action, though.
Good to know, lol. My throw build was just 12 barbarian and using the pike from act 1 and later the trident from act 3. I find the hat redundant because even without it, I always had a 95% chance to hit with Tavern Brawler. Using a helm that adds damage might be better.
@@HoboZone I've been playing a throwing barbarian myself using frenzy and thief and frenzied throw works twice for me (except ofc the turn you first activate frenzy).
Well shit I just booted up the game myself to test, and you're right. I have no idea why I thought that this didn't work.
I'll edit the description accordingly. My apologies to you both.
@@HoboZone Lol, so I wasn't mistaken. I was aware of the stacking debuff to attack when you used Frenzied Attack/Throw multiple times in one Rage, so I guess I just assumed it could be used multiple times in a turn if you had the bonus actions for it, just like an off-hand attack.
Why not pick Duelling and use a shield in other hand? +2 damage per attack is not bad.
Also would it not be better to go Fighter 11 or 12, so you get 3 attacks?
To answer:
1. I don't know if Duelling affects thrown attacks and I didn't want to use a shield for this build.
2. I went Barbarian to get the special Enraged Throw, which does more damage and can knock enemies prone.
There is an elephant in the room with your build though.
With the potion of everlasting blabla, you can get your strength to 22..
So why up con or dex when you instead can get 22 strength?
Personal preference. Dex would give you more AC and CON would give you more HP. I found that the extra survivability was worth more than a little extra damage.
@@HoboZone
Understandable.
Well looks like a fun build regardless.
Have to have a look at it as well 😄
I'm wondering, when you are increasing Con to get more health, wouldn't it be better to take the Tough feat instead?
Not criticizing of course, its no big deal, but I am genuinely curious.
I've tested this multiple times, but the tough feat gives the same amount of HP as two points of CON on tactician at least.
You might as well get the bonus to daving throws as well.
@@HoboZone Understandable, thanks for the answer.
I've not made it to level 10 yet on any of my playthroughs, but I don't understand how you had 3 feats at level 10? Normal DnD rules only allow a feat when a class reaches level 4 so shouldn't you only have 2 at level 10, 6F/4B? Is this a BG3 specific thing I am unaware of?
Both Rogue and Fighter gain extra feats
Thanks for the answer! @@HoboZone
Question do coating effect like poison or acid works with throwing weapons?
I haven't tested this myself, but I can't see why it wouldn't?
Why use daggers instead of jabalins?
Because that was the build request.
@@HoboZone ok that makes sense kinda sad to hear it daggers are really cool in concept but lack advantages
What dye did you use for the outfit?
I wanna say black and azure?
Do thrown weapons trigger sneak attack? That might be a good reason to throw daggers if so.
I'm not sure. I didn't think it would as thrown weapons are treated kinda weird by the game.
@@HoboZone I'll check it out on my barbarian rogue and let you know
@@HoboZone just tested. Sneak attack worked. I set sneak attack as an ask me reaction and it came up with I threw a dagger at a shop keeper from stealth. Checked the combat log and sneak attack totally worked. That could be a pretty cool build.
@@benry007 That's awesome. I would drop some Barb levels from this build for Assassin then maybe.
@@benry007What subclass of rogue would you use for this?
Is that a mod that lets you get footage from the beginning of the game?
Yep.
Nice. All your builds are great my man! I recently subscribed
Don’t embarrass me to bad but BG3 is the only game so far that I have not yet been able to properly get mods to work for. Skyrim and XCom 2 I’m a pro but frustrated about bg3.
Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Manager is your best friend.
I did. It even gives the error message about some mods may not be compatible. I’ll give it another try. Thank you for responding
Duel wielding shadow monk rogue build for my first durge play-through? 👀
You could alter my Phantom Trickster for this
11 levels of fighter gives you 3 attacks per action which should be far more throws than barbarian gives you
This is so much weaker compared to an enemy in act3 who is called the “nine fingers”, she is so much powerful with throwing daggers bc of her cheating passives that players can’t get in the game
Stupid Sexy Cheating Nine-Fingers
This is just the Nine Fingers build
Sorry if I accidentally copied someone else's build, but I think this kind of build is something a lot of people would come up with. I plead ignorance.
It is the NPC, Act 3, Nine-Fingers Keene xD@@HoboZone
@@yanegorov6278 welp. Now I feel dumb 🙃
@@HoboZone maybe making some staff-wielding martial nomad build will bring the faith back =)
Got something cooking that might fit the bill!
Oooh, what kind of Robe is that?
