Even so, a fews years ago at Pan American Games, an epee fencer's blade broke and went through the anti-blastic material and pierced a lung. Also, in 83 two accidents occurred in epee where severe wounds with the blade passing completely through lungs, intestines, etc., before exiting. When people criticize this sport for being unrealistic, they really don't know what they are talking about.

That occurred in the 83 World Chamionships. The reigning world champ Skirnov was killed on the strip by the German contender Behr when his foil tip broke off and the sharp point pierced his mask, went into his eye and brain and killed him instantly. It was a big upset for everyone, obviously. Equipment standards were upgraded and we use anti-ballistic material in uniforms and heavier masks. The blades are required to be made of a special more flexible steel.

You aren't really saying much, most fencers know that fencing isn't a combat sport, its a modern tactical game based on traditional swordplay that focuses on technique and reflexes.
If you want a full combat sport, fencing is indeed not for you, but the ones that do fence fully enjoy being able to use their tactical mind in a physical and athletic environment. We aren't fighting each other because we're not here to fight, we're here to fence.
Restrictions just force us to get creative :D

i disagree... fencing is pretty close to combat mind you one handed and h=not hitting the person hard enough to injure but there is taht timing element and trying not to be hit....

At 3:50, the visor mask has now been outlawed due to safety problems; there were too many cracked visors and one especially bad shot that was lucky not to blind the guy. So now saber masks are fully mesh.

As one who fenced (with some success) for 20 years (from the mid 70s), I can tell you that there are many more "pagans" in fencing than Christians. I was at a national training camp once that went for two weeks. The Christians missed Sunday's training day. Of course, nominal Christians aren't affected by this and Catholic girls like her are nominal. To add, it was pagans who brought the sword and even fencing into the world.

The blade is blunt, but if it were to break that could technically be possible. In the Rome olympics a blade broke and stabbed a man through the eye killing him, but they had lower quality protection back then.

    • @albertbresca5801

and poorer quality blades... that broke with sharp edges... now most break flat...

The other thing about screaming is that it is a dishonorable attempt to intimidate your opponent. I was once at a circuit event where a screamer was carrying on. His opponent, after putting up with several screams in his ear as the guy ran past him, missing his attempt at a point, finally tagged him in his preparation. Then, he made a big point of walking over to one side of the screamer and screamed in his ear. I thought that was great. STFU when you are in a match, it's the rules.

Fencing can't be used against an aggressor like Karate, but training as a fencer/swordsman does enhance your reflexes, balance and coordination, your ability to detect subtle changes in body language, and help you to develop a proper sense of distance...all of which are very important in a fight.

    • @albertbresca5801
      @albertbresca5801 4 года назад

a lot of uses.. you become aware of the other person more and where they are going to hit (mostly if they are attacking with a sword... but strangely you become more self aware...lol.. sounds like some zen garbage i am spinning..lol)

@paraveldg No no, not at all! It's just that that is the only fencing group where I live. But if you don't take it too seriously, it is actually quite funny to see. These guys would act as if you'd never get to they're level and they'd talk about their great exploits (both in fencing and outside of it). They also pretended it was like Harry Potter, and wanted to keep it secret, you know, not practicing outside of the club for fear of somebody not in the club seeing you lol.

Hm, I don't really agree with the part where she said we don't have to take turns... In sabre and foil, it IS a game of turns. Unless you manage to register one light in your favour, you can't intrude your opponent's ROW/priority/attack (without taking the blade). Otherwise, the point goes to your opponent.

Effie Manyós Left-handers are used to fighting right-handers, but not vice versa. So when a right-hander faces a left-hander, they get thrown off but the left-hander is perfectly fine. At least, that's the explanation I've always heard.

if you want to play it competitively.
train to play left handed.. at the beginning its a big change. but people will fear you as they have to change the strategy, you wont. about 12% are left handed, 88 are right handed. this means, you will be climbing the ladder easier, later on you will be facing more left handed players that will make you change your strategy as you have to now.
learn from nadal, learn from Edoardo Mangiarotti. both are naturally right handed, but are trained lefties.

Clearly you’re lying, and don’t understand it at all, nobody is pretending this is how sword fights went, but it has lots of similarities, also the fact that fencing is rooted in historical sword fighting, or should I say fencing. But hey, random due, either a weeb or hema guy is a professional and actually deserves a gold medal.

It is more of an attempt at intimidation. If you watch the men's saber events at the same level you see far less BS and quicker bladework and actions in general. BTW, she just lost out on any medal at all in London. My diagnosis is far too much adulation and attention which has distracted her and possibly too much expectation as the women's pool in saber fencing in general increases. It was very small when she won as US women concentrated on it more than other nations.
