Sarah Paulson is my favorite cast member in Mrs. America. But she's my favorite cast member in any movie or series. She's seriously my favorite human being. 💕💕
Sarah Paulson is such a clown! And I mean it in the best possible way. She's funny and joyous. I laughed my guts out watching that segment with Paulson and Blanchett promoting Oceans 8 on TODAY show with Houda.
This is my favorite scene of all the episodes and the one where Brenda won the debate against Phyllis. Also, the scene where the Pro-ERA activists was singing while holding hands was so moving I cried a little.
I can't put into words how much I adore Sarah Paulson. My heart burns with love for her. Her angel smile, sweet voice, dreamy lisp, intoxicating laugh, everything about her fills my soul like custard in a doughnut. ❤️❤️❤️
She kinda did . She got a job as a 911 operator and that one woman wanted her to run for office but she wasn't sure.I like to think she got pam to leave a bad situation she only went to the stop era meetings to get away from her toxic marriage
I really think that Alice shouldn’t have to become radicalized, i’m not saying that she should still support STOP ERA, but her world never grew outside Schlafly’s circle and this episode allows her to do just that. Alice is a composite character of a typical middle American housewife in the 70s, justifiably worried about the ERA ratification and how it affects herself and her family. This is what Schlalfy exploits to her advantage. Throughout the 70s Alice considers Phyllis a hero and what American women should be instead of the likes of Gloria Steinem and Bella Abzug, women she believes are perpetually unhappy and out for blood against housewives. The list of concerns for Alice is A: having her daughter drafted in the military, B: having to pay alimony if her husband leaves her, and C: what to do if she an unskilled housewife has to work. But A: law has already made the draft irrelevant for men to serve immediately, B: her marriage is still intact for so long although she was worried for Pamela’s abusive marriage, and C: all this time she has acquired skills as a working girl as Bella Abzug had mentioned in the episode prior, all thanks to you know who. But Alice never understood the feminist side outside of her conservative circle until this point. She met someone who espouses her beliefs who happens to support Feminism, and she was tipped off because of that. Alice believed that feminists attack housewives, but this particular one is not the case. She then meets with women of diverse backgrounds, albeit in a acid trip and realizes how much she never knew. She doesn’t change her Christian beliefs, she does however believe that its not Christian to demonize people who have different beliefs. She realizes this too late however, as Schlafly built a counter-rally that does exactly that, and her own friends are untouched by her realization. “Give a libber an inch they’ll ask for a mile” they said. These women aren’t out to attack housewives as Alice was to believe, if anything Schlafly’s group was out to attack the rest of the mainstream with their “Moral Majority” mantra, their uncompromisable politics and their pious, self-righteous personas believing lies that Satan has financed the Houston conference. I actually like that Alice wasn’t radicalized, but rather enlightened and sympathetic. It makes her realize how societal norms of housewives aren’t all as perfect when Pamela is having marital problems. She also confronts Schlafly for making Pamela submit to her husband’s demands to maintain this certain facade. Alice realized not the errors in her ways, but the errors in Phyllis’s, and distancing herself from this bubble empowered her to try a different route, a job as an operator. Of course it’s nothing major, but it’s what she wants. It doesn’t matter whether she’d support the ERA, or that if she voted for Reagan, that’s not the point. The point is that it’s not a radical idea to allow mainstream housewives to learn where the women’s liberation is coming from and see where they agree or disagree, not out of spite but out of principle.
Alice's journey was amazing, unlike her fellows she had the confidence and conviction to listen to her opponents and their views and realised she aligned with them more than the conservatives. Finding her confidence working as a woman with the support of her husband and finding the courage to support a fellow woman who was in a controlling relationship
The message of this series seems to be that conservatives are evil demons while liberals are angels fighting for the forces of virtue and goodness. Yawn! Not really a huge difference between this view and how Stalin viewed his political opponents...and we all know how that went.
I just watched the series this summer at the lake -- wow! Blanchett is the best actress in the world as always but Sarah Paulson was EPIC in the "Houston" episode. We were laughing out loud over and over ... and pulling for her to find her way out of her far right wing prison. I know this character was fictional but the premise that the kindest and best human being in Schlafly's circle would find herself is not far-fetched. I always suspected it happened to many over the years although clearly not enough. In fact it happened in the Trump years when conservative women like Nicole Wallace, Jennifer Rubin and Cindy McCain chose decency over ideology and rejected a dangerous con man/wanna-be-authoritarian.
'I discovered a better way to eat' best line of this episode.
Only Sarah Paulson to say this!!! LOL
esp as she shovels the food into her mouth while laying down
Alice had great character development through the end of the series. Sarah portrayed it perfectly.
It's too bad she wasn't a real person.
@@Stefan-ji2ekbut if she were a real person she couldn't have had the arch she had
Stefan Alice is based on multiple people that actually existed.
Yet, no Emmy nominations 🥺
Sarah played her character with intelligence and depth. Also well written.

Yes! I love all the episodes you mentioned too. I also cried with Gloria last speech.
Brenda never won. She made up things on stage and Phyllis was brilliant. Watch the real debate.

Alice really should of switched to the other side. You could tell she really didn’t like where she was.
